Any competent mechanic knows the battery must be disconnected before working around the shifter and airbags. He failed to do that. As a result of his negligence, both side airbags deployed and both seat belts were damaged. One of the airbags slammed into my back and caused a serious injury. I had to go to the emergency room, which cost me a lot of money and pain. Instead of taking responsibility, he completely lost it and kept saying it wasn't his fault. He then had the nerve to say he could install new airbags and seat belts, but I had to buy the parts and pay him labor -- after HE caused the damage. He kept bragging about having "30 years of experience" and being a "trainer," which is honestly laughable given what happened. At first, he agreed to cover the costs. Then he started stalling for over a month, telling me "tomorrow" every single day. At one point, he claimed a family member had died -- and I later saw in his reviews that he told another customer the exact same story. Eventually, he avoided me completely because he didn't want to touch the car again, likely afraid he'd damage it further. He sent one of his workers instead, who couldn't fix anything. I ended up hiring an attorney and taking legal action. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a mechanic. Completely irresponsible, dishonest, and dangerous. Avoid at all costs.

I took my car to another mechanic who said I need to replace my water pump and was charging almost $1500. I called them to get a quote and it was under $1000. When I took my car to see them they told me I actually don't need a water pump replacement and explained why the last mechanic thought I did. What I did need was my thermostat replaced. They replaced that and showed me the old one verse the new one and what it was supposed to look like. Getting the thermostat changed was much cheaper then the water pump so I paid much less than expected plus I really like that they showed me the old part so I could visually see what was going on. For me they are worth the drive from Oceanside and I will be going there from now on.

The Hyundai dealer thought it was the ignition switch, and replaced it with a hefty bill. The car seemed to work fine so they thought they had fixed the problem. It was just the intermittant nature of the problem that fooled them and cost me a lot. A few weeks later, the ignition problem recurred and then more and more frequently till the car could not be started. I refused to take it back to the dealer and had it towed to West Automotive. They told me that I didn't need to accompany the car to their shop. They called me when it arrived and quickly diagnosed the problem as a starter motor failure, and told me that the pattern of increasing intermittent failure to start was typical of starter motor failure which any good auto mechanic should have known about. They had the starter in stock, replaced it, and i had the car back by the end of the day. Problem solved! I went here as an AAA member and it is an AAA shop. With the radio show and all, I expected a higher than average cost but also a higher than average job. Not the case for me. I'll try to just state what happened and let the reader draw their own conclusions as to whether they want to go here or somewhere else. 4/28/26: The estimate called for a cabin filter replacement. I had to point out that my model of truck doesn't have one. After approving $4K of repairs, Brandon emailed me, "I will call you tomorrow when it is finished." However I never received any communication the next day (4/29) saying it was ready or delayed. I had to inquire the day after that (4/30).  4/30: "All the services are completed we have to smog the vehicle still my smog guy went to lunch so i am hoping to have it all set by 2or 3 this afternoon" 2:05 "...  my technician is setting up all the monitors, and the catalytic converter is taking a little while to set. There is nothing wrong with the cats but the monitor takes a drive cycle to set so it might be a little bit past three." 3:03 " ...it looks like we have to do what's called a coldstart. Everything on the vehicle must be under 100 degrees. Would it be ok if we kept it over night in order to perform the cold start in the morning? We should have the vehicle back to you no later than 10am  " 5/1 10:14 "We have finally set the monitors and the truck has been smogged." Brandon emailed me my address for confirmation before sending the shuttle, and I replied it was the correct address and repeated the address in my reply. "Perfect he will be there shortly!" I waited in front of my house and was surprised to get a call saying they were in front of my house waiting for me. I said they weren't and repeated my address. They were waiting at the wrong address despite all the address confirmations. The driver never apologized or mentioned it. The office never apologized or mentioned it.  I made the $4K payment and got in my truck to leave. I noticed my phone holder was broken and the piece that broke off was on the floorboard. Something I would have notice before. I also noticed the gas tank was near empty when it was near full when I dropped it off. I compared the mileage when I dropped it off to the current mileage and there was a difference of 135 miles. I went back into the office and asked about the mileage. Brandon then told me he drove it for the smog test. Brandon never mentioned that he drove the truck 135 miles nor did he ask permission beforehand. While the estimate had some "before" pictures of repairs needed, no "after" pictures were provided after the work was done.

Broke down on the side of the road, and the tow truck driver "strongly recommended" I bring my car here, saying this was the best shop around. Now, I'm convinced they're working together to scam people. I left my car, and from there, it was a total nightmare. For weeks, I barely got any updates. I called, left message after message, but almost never got a call back. When I finally reached someone, it was always a new excuse--"waiting on parts" or "the mechanic is looking at it now." Meanwhile, my car was just sitting, totally ignored. Then, it gets worse: after 3 weeks, the mechanic calls and tells me the problem is water damage. I told him my car has NEVER been exposed to water, and he was quiet for a second. So I went down to see what was going on. When I got there, my car was sitting outside with the windows rolled down, and the inside was completely soaked and to add insult - there were dirty cat or dog footprints inside of my car - ON MY WHITE LEATHER!!! He left my windows down or doors open during a storm, and now my car had water damage--damage he caused! But here's the final straw: after telling me about this "water damage," he actually suggested I call my insurance and claim it as a total loss. Are you kidding me?! He damages my car and then tries to push me into committing insurance fraud to cover his own incompetence. I immediately took my car to another shop. They had it fixed in 48 hours--it was just a bad ground wire, no water damage necessary. This place is a scam. They're incompetent, negligent, and downright shady. TRUST YOUR GUT - If you care about your car (and your sanity), avoid this place at all costs!
