The Alaskan Teriyaki Salmon was disappointing ... fish was dry and the sauce was watered down, which made it almost flavorless compared to the rich Teriyaki flavor I'm used to. It was edible. But not flavorful. I ordered to go a spicy tuna roll and the namesake roll of the restaurant. The rice was hard. I took it off most of my rolls. Spicy tuna was fine but not great. We came during a very busy time, Saturday night around 5. Every other restaurant nearby was a 30-50 min wait. We walk into Nozawa to be seated immediately, had amazing service and the food was as good as it gets. Came on a Saturday afternoon. They had 3 other tables than my 2 top. We order food and sushi. The food came out in 10 minutes. We finished it quickly because we were starving and then a waiter didn't come over for another 20 minutes. It took 40 minutes after we finished our food that the sushi came out (we only got 4 basic rolls), and then another 20 for a check and by the time we were finished an entire 4 top table sat, ate their sushi only meal, and left. There was literally no one in the restaurant by the time we left and our experience took 1:45 in total from walking it to out for 2 people and it wasn't busy. This was also October (aka mud season). Teppanyaki its the best, you get a table where a chef will cook an entree for you, you get a salad a soup and during mud season everything its 50%off. I love this place, they make great sushi and Hibachi (great for kids) they almost always have half off sushi rolls and me and my girlfriends love to come here and unwind and have some different flavored sakis (excellent by the way) and the sushi rolls are amazing, yes I get it, the sushi rolls don't taste like the ones in Denver or New york or wherever your from, but up here in the mountains this is near perfect for us! Customer service is hit or miss, sometimes i get someone who doesn't speak very good english, and that can sometimes be an issue if we cant understand each other. read more

Sushi and entrees were what was expected from a Japanese restaurant in a mountain town. Not good not great. However, the waitstaff was atrocious. A male server with a Japanese themed left tattoo sleeve exemplified some of the worst waiting I have ever experienced. He neglected to bring the correct amount of menus. He spilled dumpling soup on the table when bringing it out. He refused to run a gift card again when it was declined the first time. He included gratuity with a table of only 5. He then forgot he already added gratuity and asked one of our party for more tip when we paid in cash. He forgot to return one of our cards and then was unapologetic when we reminded him he never returned our check book to us. The staff also kept the door to the sushi section of the restaurant open as well as the door to the outside on a 20 degree night so our backs were constantly blasted with freezing air. We have been disappointed our last few visits. One of my favorite restaurants in Dillon! Vi and Samantha are the best servers you will have! The sushi is so good! Favorites are the TNT and Phoenix rolls. Their shrimp pad Thai is also a favorite of mine! On the teppanyaki side they are okay... the entertainment is exciting for new comers but sometimes chefs aren't as social with their guests. So it really depends on who the chef is. Food is always yummy but some chefs cook it better. Portions are fair except when you have a huge group the portions aren't as big. Best time to go is when they are having their special of 40% off! read more

The fried rice is to die for and hands down the only true flavorful hot and sour soup! Surprisingly good sushi in Dillon! So this place is in a strip shopping mall and not all that great to look at on the inside, but the food was really good. Four of us went to dinner and we sat at the hibachi table. Three of us ordered hibachi and one just ordered sushi. We've eaten a lot of sushi in our lives, including west coast and Hawaii and this was really fresh, really good. Downside is that it is also really really expensive. The hibachi was also good, although not too different from any other hibachi place where we have eaten. Overall I would recommend it for dinner, just be prepared for the cost! read more

My sons love hibachi so if there is a hibachi restaurant in the area we will visit. On our ski trip they noticed this restaurant, of course. We tried it, but were not impressed. The service was good, contrary to other reviews, but the food was not so much. I realize that fried rice is salty, but their fried rice was so salty I could not eat it. I ordered the shrimp and the flavor was not desirable and I love shrimp prepared every way. My husband ordered steak and shrimp and fried rice. Steak was fine, nothing to rave about, shrimp were way too salty and seasoning was off. Typical ginger dressing on salad was good. Soup was too fishy for our liking. Our boys usually trade their salads for our soups and they didn't finish their own bowl of soup because they didn't desire the taste. Restaurant is located in a ski town so prices are higher than usual, as expected in a tourist area--add $15-20/person more than you would usually pay for hibachi. read more

This server needs to be fired and never work in customer service ever again. There is seriously absolutely no excuse for what happened today. If you come here and get a young, thin oriental boy with glasses as your waiter, you are better off walking out immediately than spending a penny of your money or a minute of your time in this restaurant. The reputation of this establishment is now demolished by me and the 6 other people who ate here today. When I asked for a side of some sauce when we received our sushi, he very rudely gestured at me and asked me with a snotty tone of voice to give him a minute. I was not rushing him, I in fact told him to just bring it when he had the time. He wasn't very present throughout the meal. But this wasn't the issue. After that happened, we figured he was just flustered and brushed it off. It was this last experience that I AM ABSOLUTELY APPALLED AND DISGUSTED BY. When one person in a group handed him a $20 for her $19 meal, he actually BROUGHT THE BILL BACK AND ASKED HER WHERE HIS TIP WAS. Feeling extremely uncomfortable and awkward, she explained she thought he would bring the bill back with her change so she could leave him his tip (like regular waiters do). NO. By no means should you ever come back to a customer and ask for an explanation on a tip. we were not going to stif him on a tip, he just needed to bring the change back for us to leave a tip before we leave the restaurant. He ended up NOT bringing her change back, NOT even asking if she wanted her change but just taking the left over and then publicly confronting her about where his tip was...???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Plus if you make it in before 4 or 5 (can't remember exactly) you can get the bento box, which is a decent amount of really good food for less than $10. If you want to eat terrible pseudo-Thai food at a "Japanese" restaurant where all the kitchen staff speaks Chinese, then go to Nozawa in Dillon, Co. I am Japanese-American with a Thai wife born and raised in Bangkok. We ordered Phad Thai, and the noodles came overcooked and mushy. Clearly they were not soaked in cold water and then wokked, but had been boiled. We also ordered "gaeng keo waan" or green curry. I have never before seen a large gelatinous mess served standing up in a pile on a plate when ordering Thai curry. My wife was besides herself, and we sent in back. The large party next to us of 10-12 people had angry words with the wait staff and left, leaving a huge amount of food uneaten on the table. I am not sure what their complaint was, but they left clearly unhappy. We did not eat the sushi or the teppanyaki so I cannot comment on the quality of Japanese food. In addition, the waitress was unpleasant and surly and not at all welcoming. I would definitely not recommend eating at Nozawa. I usually refuse to eat at an Asian restaurant where cuisines of different cultures are mixed, but that evening I was very hungry and did not listen to my own guidelines. Regretfully. read more

I really liked Nozawas, although it was pretty expensive. I got the crunchy crab roll, an eel roll, and miso soup, the miso soup was the best miso soup I had ever had although when I got it, it was only fairly warm. The crunchy crab roll had a very nice texture to it and it tastes quite good. The eel role was decent but there isn't much to say about it. The service was alright but it took a little while to get our food but there were also not very many people there, on a busy day however, it would take a pretty long time to get our food. The atmosphere of the restaurant was rather nice and reflected the Japanese setting well, however, the bathroom was pretty grungy and hard to find. Finally, we come to price, we had a party of five and we all ordered 2 rolls, our total was about 80$ and everything was half off so it was pretty reasonable. My final ratings for each category: Food: 5/5 Service: 3/5 Ambience:4/5 Price: 3.5/5 I give this restaurant a 4/5 with a recommendation for anyone visiting summit county. read more

The sushi here is good. It is decent fish and decent presentation. However, the service is nothing more than that of a "sizzler" or what I imagine a McDonalds server to have if there was such a thing. At the end of our meal we paid and left, about halfway to our car in the parking lot we hear someone yelling "Mam! Mam!" When we turn around we see our waiter (the large Asian man) walking towards us and thought we had left a coat or hat inside. What actually was going on though was our waiter was chasing us to tell us that we didn't tip: "was my service not very good? Because I can see here that you didn't tip...". ARE YOU KIDDING ME? In no way is it okay for an employee of a restaurant to FOLLOW a customer to there car and tell them that they didn't tip! I come from a tipping position and I understand that if I do not provide above and beyond service for the guest/customer then I should not receive a tip. Every time we come to nozawa we think "well, it sucked last time, maybe this time it wont" but it always does. I don't know why we keep coming back. We are much better off just driving to Frisco and going to Kemosabi. Even the half price sushi during mud season is still over priced, especially for what it is. A Philly roll is 6-7 bucks anywhere else regular priced. We had nozawa last night and I feel nauseous still. Writing this as a reminder to my self never to go back. read more

The food is exactly what you would expect from a midrange Asian restaurant. However, the service is horrendous. Our tattooed waiter applied an 18% tip for the 5 person table and then confronted me about the tip amount when I gave him $26 in cash for a $25.25 meal. He also somehow neglected to return one of the credit cards after payment as well. It seemed as if every member of the waitstaff was also very stingy when returning change for cash payments. This was probably one of the most awkward, off putting dining experiences I've ever had. If you are craving Asian food on the Dillon Reservoir, find a Panda Express instead. read more
