We shared their Miso Soup and Edamame (bad picture...covered dish), and we both ordered sushi rolls (forgot the names), then shared this fun, one-of-a-kind dessert (forgot the name). Miso Soup and Edamame was just OK, but the sushi rolls and the dessert were stellar! When the universe gives you a prime parking spot in front of The Blue Fish and it's ALSO happy hour, you go in! Happy hour is EVERY DAY from 4-5! Unheard of. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of options on the happy hour menu as well and it was reasonably priced, considering downtown Breckenridge. We got the red sun maki (salmon avocado and yellowtail scallion). It's 2x 6 piece cut rolls, so you're getting a great deal for 12 pieces. The rice isn't your typical sushi rice but the fish was fresh. We also go the yellowtail heaven and garlic edamame. The yellowtail heaven was flavorful and fresh. The garlic edamame has a yuzu ponzu sauce that is more sweet than tangy and lacked garlic flavor. Service was quick and friendly. I'd come back to try the full dinner menu! read more

The garlic edamame can be skipped for regular or their spicy edamame. The yellowtail heaven was a nice cut of fish and left a good flavor. The Maki (12 pieces for $18) was my favorite. What a lovely experience. We were greeted right when we walked in. Water came to our table shortly after. We then had the chance to look over the menu. I ordered the miso salmon entree and my husband had the lobster ramen entree. I was looking at two different different and the waitress recommended the "papaya lady" to pair well with it. She was spot on! The salmon was moist, not fishy at all, with caramelized grill marks. The lobster was tender, and plenty meat in the tail. My husband and I made a reservation at Blue Fish on Christmas, and it ended up being such a highlight of our trip to Breckenridge. From the moment we sat down, we had a great time. Our server was absolutely awesome--so friendly and personable. We even discovered he grew up in South Florida, not far from where we live, which made the experience feel extra special. He gave us great recommendations not only from the menu, but also on places to explore around Colorado. We started with the Heaven and miso soup--both were delicious. For rolls, we ordered the rainbow roll, rainforest roll, piñata roll, and the 121 roll. Every single one was incredible. Truly some of the best sushi I've had in a while. The style and quality reminded me so much of the sushi I grew up eating back home in Vancouver, BC, which I've been missing! Amazing food, great service, and a fun, welcoming atmosphere. Not bad for mountain town sushi! My girlfriend and I had dinner here during the shoulder season to celebrate our anniversary, wanting something not too terrible expensive but nice enough to feel celebratory, and this spot fit the bill. It was the shoulder season, so service was fast and the restaurant was nearly empty. Our server was personable and kind, recommending items he enjoys on the menu. The setting is definitely less intimate than we expected, but after managing our expectations we had a great time. We ended up being sat next to some of the only other customers in the restaurant and they were also very nice, striking up conversation about the rolls they ordered. The server even brought us out free mochi as a gift for our celebration. This was our first time checking out the blue fish in breckenridge and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, so many options and portions were beyond adequate. Even our non adventurous children had several choices. The hostess from the Texas area brought not only her professionalism but also her southern Texas hospitality. We ordered their rock manhattan roll (we get it everytime) and it was perfection! We also ordered a few apps for happy hour like the shrimp tempura, rock fish and Japanese fried chicken. The part of dinner I was unsure about was the side soba. I assumed it was cold and the soba you dip but it wasn't and I didn't want just some random noodles. Our waitress was super sweet about it though and I ordered it for $8 (why not). I saw the bowl coming and WAS I WRONG. It is a good portion size and full of flavor, you can add protein if you want but it's so simple yet satisfying. I got one to go! This place is a MONEY GRAB. Numerous issues with this place and I won't mince my words in an economy that is threatening the restaurant industry right now: if you are a restaurant overcharging and faking menu items when it comes to premium seafoods items then I WILL put you on blast. It's not fair to your customer's wallet and I have no tolerance for the bs that restaurants like this pull. The Blue fish made out like BANDITS after my family dined there recently and here are the reasons (CONS) why: -WAY OVER PRICED My dad ordered specialty nigiri (Toro and Waygu) that was $28 for a pair. Julie did not tell my dad the price and he ended up ordering it. The insanity of paying $28 for one pair of sushi nigiri is dumbfounding to me. My family and I are in the seafood industry in Alaska and have traveled to Japan many times . In the scores of years we have dined on sushi on both continents, we have never paid close to $28 for one pair nigiri (that's like 95% rice btw for you sushi outsiders). I am aware of the inflation going on in this country, too, but this price is just foul. 4 pairs of sushi for $110 was shocking and it would have been nice to have been told the cost ahead of time since we could not find it on the menu but were told it was available. -HIMACHI IS SUSPECT I could talk about how I think the California roll we got is not snow crab but appears to be fake crab (called polluck) and the classic hamachi roll was unlike all the other times we have ordered hamachi rolls in this country and when we were in Japan. It is supposed to be minced with green onion to bring out the flavor. Blue Fish served just a chunk of the fish with rice in the roll. That's it and it didn't look like Hamachi to my father who has been fishing in Alaska for 40 years and has dealt with the international seafood market. -ASKING A FAVOR TURNED INTO A MONEY-MAKING OPPORTUNITY I asked the waitress (Julie I think her name was, really nice), for just TWO TABLESPOONS of rice in a little ramican. I repeatedly told her "all I need is like two spoonfuls of rice just for my 9month old baby to nibble on, please." She brought back a large bowl full of rice. Completely unneeded and she told me that's just what the kitchen gave her. My mom (who paid the bill) later told me that she was charged $4 for that rice bowl. Thanks a lot for NOT listening to me in the first place--and for overcharging my mom for your mistake. $4 is nothing compared to the $100s of dollars we spent but it's the PRINCIPLE of the matter. NO GARNISH -Again, I have eaten sushi hundreds of times in my life and they have always been served with garnish (like shredded Daikon). The dish with just the sushi roll felt a bit institutional....the plate was bare other than the roll. -COMPULSARY TIPS NOW, STARTING AT MINIMUM OF 20%!!! I was in the hospitality industry for years so I know waitresses get a nil hourly salary, so they have to earn all of their money through tips but I don't like the mandatory tipping starting at 20%. PROS: -Really hip modern atmosphere -swift service -really congenial manager we chatted with briefly -friendly waitstaff -The Rainforest Roll was delicious -The sushi rice was properly made. Bottom line: Middle class people like us don't go out to restaurants as often as we would like because of the over-the-top pricing and "gotcha moments" we felt in this restaurant. read more

I thought the Kobe potstickers were good (but not mind blowing), as were the rolls. After a weekend of burgers and apres ski food, Blue Fish was a refreshing break. The ambiance is nice despite all the other staff members running around looking frantic, I'm not sure what was going on. Sushi i give close to a 7/10 just because Best roll was the rainforest roll. We offered multiple classic and special rolls I'd rate less. I'm actually a fan of the wasabi cream never had it before. There was only 2 sushi to pick from in this city that were decently rated. Tried the happy hour at The Blue Fish on my most recent visit to Breck. Was able to make a reservation and the happy hour runs from 4-5 p.m. which a variety of discounted food and drink options. Cocktails were $3 off the menu price. Started with the tuna fish tower which was a combination of rice, avacado, crab mix and poke tuna. Also ordered the crispy Brussel sprouts which was my favorite dish with a light crispy texture and also had crispy onions on top. Also liked the Japanese fried chicken that had a nice crispy texture and came with a kimchee mayo dipping sauce. The California and Yellowtail scallion rolls were standard. The waitress did bring ponzu sauce as well as soy sauce. It also comes with wasabi and fresh ginger. The summer roll was decent and comes with a peanut dipping sauce. None of the food was too spicy. Some of the dishes had very similar ingredient though like the California roll, spring roll and fish tower. I did enjoy the lichee cocktail which was very strong. Wowza! We were in Breck for 5 days and ordered take out 2 out of the 5 nights from here. SO good. Being from FL, I'm usually a sushi snob but this place kicked those thoughts to the curb. They don't deliver but the pickup process is super easy. The gentlemen that helped me with pick up was awesome. Double checked everything and gave us extras as needed. Takeout was outstanding. Was a busy Saturday evening so we ordered takeout early in the day for a 6pm pickup. It was ready and on time and perfect to order. Each roll was unique and delicious {even good sushi sometimes isn't great as takeout } we enjoyed every roll and it was worth the prices. I had the Asian mojito and thought it quite uninteresting and VERY overpriced for what it was at $15. Cannot recommend enough for a nice meal. I started with a lychee martini and it was divine. Not quite as good as nobu but that's just me being picky. It's very lychee forward and a must try. We got the tuna tower, dynamite shrimp and miso soup as apps and all 3 were a 10. I honestly contemplated getting the tuna tower again as my meal. As for entrees I got the yellowtail heaven and it was so fresh and light and I could have had 2 or 3 portions of it. Especially since you only get 5 pieces do do be aware it is like $25. Mom and brother got the poke bowl and it was simple but so well executed. You can tell the fish is just so fresh and the portion size of the poke bowl is HUGE and not just full of rice but a hefty serving of fish too. My father got the beef bulgogi and I don't have any other bulgogi to compare it to as it was both our first times trying but we both were amazed by the flavor. Our server was so nice and everything came out very quickly but I do recommend a reservation as it does get busy. Sushi and rolls were delicious and well worth the price. 2 out of 7 of us got their meals 15 minutes before the rest of group but without their sides (fried rice and noodles) which came out later. Then once the rest of the meals were finally served, the steak teriyaki meals and chicken teriyaki plates were served barely warm, rice and vegetables were cold. To top it off, the restaurant charges automatic gratuity for our party of 7 so the service really didn't matter since the waiter got his tip regardless. Worst part is the restaurant erroneously charges tip on the total bill including on top of the sales tax. This is completely wrong and should be on pre-tax total. Did not appreciate this. I wouldn't come back for a $600 dinner again. For a few sushi rolls, it's worth going, otherwise you can find much better for that price. If it weren't for the sushi rolls, this would be 1 star. read more
