We just purchased a new house and wanted to improve the layout of the backyard in order to create an outdoor space for entertaining and for the kids. We originally gravitated to simply installing a large retaining wall to manage the slope of the backyard and started contacting contractors to provide quotes and established plans for them to look at the property. I was hesitant to contact NRC as their website has many larger projects and I was concerned that I wasn't sitting on a big enough project for the company. I was wrong - he stated several times that he loves projects like mine because he can see results so quickly and still really see a distinct change. As soon as we contacted Nick at NRC, he started pulling data from the county Geographical Information System (GIS) and the real estate listing in order to better understand my situation. He told me that he could build me a retaining wall, but that wouldn't be the best use of my space and money. He immediately developed a vision and was excited to take a look at my backyard in person and do great things for my family. While many of the other contractors focused on replacing the aging and rotten wooden ground-level deck with a stone or paver patio, Nick had a vision that included a patio with a retaining wall - which would help tame the slope behind the wall - and an area in which I could place a playset for the kids. He also identified other ways to truly make use of my backyard space as well - to include the large trees providing shade over the backyard. He clearly thought outside of the box and approached it from a "what would I do if this was my house" standpoint. He genuinely seemed excited at the prospect of working on my space and got us excited too. We signed up right away. Throughout the build, Nick communicated effectively, explained what was happening, and was responsive to change requests and questions. His crew was courteous and did their best to not be in the way with their vehicles and equipment. At the end of each day, they made sure to clean up and put their stuff out of the way. When his crew cleared away some brush and found a huge stump, he quickly and clearly communicated the development and the cost of the stump removal. When he saw that our original plan for the playset area would be more expensive and dangerous than we originally realized, he had an alternative suggestion ready to go. Although we ended up higher than we originally budgeted, that was due to our changes and choices (if you're gonna do it at all, go all the way!), but Nick's pricing was consistent (no surprises), well-communicated, and competitive with the 1/2 dozen other contractors we called out. In fact, Nick offered a bit more for the same price. The space is all done now and I couldn't be happier. We have more room to enjoy being outside and a playset is on the way for the kids. The whole thing just looks amazing. It's really a dream patio! Nick's addition of lighting truly kicks the whole thing up a notch and looks amazing. As he said at the outset, "I want to build you something you'll enjoy looking from inside the house, both day and night". He totally achieved that! I'd like to begin this review by saying that NRC Landscaping is not just a good hardscaping company it's a one stop solution that makes a dream backyard a reality. Nick the founder of NRC is one of the most professional and accommodating individuals we had a chance to meet. And believe me; we dealt with some clowns while selecting a company to create our back yard oasis. Our project was very challenging due to the terrain our house sits on as well as the taste for contemporary look we were going for. Nick came out to the site and gave us variety of ideas. Very shortly we got a rendering of what the finished project would look like. When reviewing the materials we picked Nick offered to substitute some of the materials to reduce the cost, but still maintain the look and the quality we were going for. Once the project began Nick was there all the time to supervise and address any challenges. He negotiated with vendors, pool contractors and the city officials. The patio and retaining walls now made it through the winter and to my surprise not a single stone moved. Everything looks as if the job was finished yesterday. I also did something I've never done before, and that's refereeing Nick to someone I worked with. Needless to say my coworker still thanks me for introducing him to NRC. I wish more companies in the contracting world would go at least half the length NRC does for their customers. read more

We have lived in our home almost 7 years and always had great visions for our backyard but it was overwhelming and we never could find the time to focus and get started. With encouragement from family who wanted a fun, safe space for our children to enjoy, we contacted several landscape contractors. Nick responded quickly and came out to help build our vision. He was fair, honest about our expectations, and easy to work with. Our backyard was basically gutted and built back up. We had several trees removed, a brand new deck built with a screened/waterproof patio added below, tiered gardening area, grated our lawn and added truckloads of fresh soil, sod and grass seed, beautiful fence with several gates, customized shed, new tree lighting, and a playset for our girls. An area we can now enjoy as a family and entertain company. We had several delays with lots of rain, this past spring was really wet, and waiting for the county to complete their inspections but Nick stayed in constant contact and kept me in the loop. Nick also wanted to make sure we did everything according to code and guarantee it's safety, very much appreciated. We went from a very disastrous and unusable backyard to something that we LOVE! Fantastic! Nick and his team did an impeccable job and I've already recommended NRC to several neighbors in our area. We wanted something that would give our end-unit townhome some useful outdoor living space, provide some privacy, and add a little curb appeal. We got far more than that. With a modest budget and a very basic idea, Nick drafted us a design, explained all the costs, and then brought it to life. The finished product - patio, sitting wall, up-lighting, and 40+ trees/bushes/plants landscaping - was amazing; far more than the design sketch did justice. Separate from the tremendous job Nick and his crew did, what really stood out to us was the reliability and peace of mind you get from him. Whenever something wasn't going quite right, or even when we decided to change something last minute, Nick just made it happen. He never seemed burdened, or tried to nickle-and-dime us, he just did it. When we thought we might lose a bush or a plant (which amazingly only happened once on a mid-summer project), Nick reassured us that he'd replace it; no questions asked. We decided to upgrade our driveway with pavers. Had three contractors come out to discuss the project, including NRC Landscaping. When Nick from NRC came out to discuss the project, we talked about the driveway and before he left my wife mentioned that a courtyard might be nice. That evening, Nick sent several CAD designs showing the driveway but also had designs that included a courtyard, wall, new front steps, landscaping, and lighting. We were so impressed with Nick's designs and the quote, that we had him do everything that he was proposing. There were a few bumps along the way as would be expected with any big project, but Nick took care of everything and we felt confident that the end product would be as designed. In the end, we are very happy with the result and would recommend NRC to anyone looking for a quality job. I think Nick is very talented when it comes to design work and is strongly motivated to deliver a quality product. He was never pushy and made several suggestions along the way. NRC performed the work within the proposed budget and on deadline with no problems or issues. Nick and his company did a great job. We had a sloped backyard leading toward the house, causing big drainage issues. We had so much yard space but no flat land for our children to play. Nick immediately envisioned a plan upon seeing the backyard, sent over a drawing and proposal soon after and worked with us to fine tune details.
