I have been to this place twice and both times the staff was rude, indifferent, and gave me rubbish answers. The first time, I needed a tire fixed and they wouldn't give me a quote. The second time, I needed a tire replaced. The staff person there told me I would need to order a matching tire even though I told him I didn't care about matching tires. When I asked him how long it would take, his answer was "it depends". I told him I would have to wait since I wasn't dropping it off so if I made an appointment, I would expect to know how long I should plan to wait. He just shrugged and said "it depends on how much work we have on that day". That is not what an appointment means. Anyways, Discount tire next door changed it in an hour, cost less, and provided great customer service. I would not recommend anyone, especially women to go here. This place is run by misogynists. Three Blatant Lies! After getting a flat, I changed the tire with the spare, then threw the flat in the back of my pickup truck. I took the flat to NTB at 14814 Baltimore Ave, Laurel, to get a new tire. A half hour later, I started wondering what was taking so long for a tire replacement. So I walked outside, found an open bay door, and looked inside only to see my truck in the air with all four tires off and the hood open. WTH! The floor manager saw me and told me they do a safety inspection for all vehicles that are brought in. Well, I didn't bring my truck in, I brought a tire in, so I asked him to put my truck back together and mount the new tire. Back in the waiting area, the cashier called me up to give me the results of the safety inspection. One, the battery was critically low and needed to be replaced immediately, and she could do that for me for today for $296. Second, my rear brake pads were 90% worn and needed to be replaced, you guessed it, immediately. Third, my ignition system had excessive soot deposits and if not treaded, I'd have fuel injector problems very soon. I thanked her for the information. When the add-on sells didn't work on me at the counter, a few minutes later, the service writer approached. He took me into the shop, pointed out the brake pads, saying they were dangerously worn and that they needed to replace them now. I told him no thank you, and to please button up my truck so I may leave. When I turned to go back into the waiting area, he asked why I didn't want to replace the pads. I ignored him. When I didn't answer, he asked if I heard him. Finally, my truck and tire were ready, so I paid and left in disgust. What were the lies? First of all, since my truck wasn't hard staring before going to NTB, I knew the battery wasn't critically low. To verify it, once I got home, I pulled out my multi-meter and tested the battery. It as 48 degrees outside and the multi-meter read 12.41 volts. Critically Low? Not at all, considering a fully charged battery is 12.6 volts at 72 degrees. Second, were the pads low? Most all modern pads have a wear gauge built into them. That's why you'll hear a high pitch screech when they need to be replaced. Were mine low? Yes, they below 50% thickness, but that's not a safety issue. Third. How did they know the engine had built up soot? Did they put a scope down a cylinder or scan the engine to find a P0171 Lean Air error code? No. So why am I writing this review? Since my wife isn't mechanically savvy, if she had taken my tire to NTB and then been told I needed about 800 dollars of work to make my truck safe, she probably would have done it for me. So for those that gave NTB 5 Starts saying they were kind and helpful beyond what you brought your car in for, please beware what they told me. As for me? Since I work for an auto parts store that deliver NTB batteries, pads and Sea Form (engine soot cleaning kits), I simply suggest you go anywhere other than here for your next repair. read more

I had no mechanic to help me with my problem. I contacted NTB, Beltsville and was told to come in at 8:00 a.m., I went to the NTB, in Laurel and explained about the phone call. The manager on Duty, "Teddy?" was very pleasant and assured me they would be able to assist. So I told him I needed him to impress me, as I needed a mechanic and did not have one. He immediately, help resolve most of my fear of a women going to a mechanic by herself. Helped me in many, many ways to get my vehicle back on the road. Not to mention it was July 3rd, holiday time. I ordered tires online to be delivered to NTB - 14814 Baltimore Ave, Laurel, Md 20707-4856. Process went well I received confirmation of my purchase. The next day (Nov 12th), the scheduler emailed me to set a date. We set the date for November 23rd, 10:00 o'clock. Process went well. I received a call on 11/23 a little before 9 am., date of the scheduled appt. I was told that the scheduler had not contacted them about my appointment. So there was a mix up. He does not see the schedule until the day of. (Really???) Then I was told that there were no techs there, so if my tires are already paid for I can come pick them up and take them somewhere else. (Seems he would have done his homework before calling me and asking me if I had paid for them already, and seems like he would have checked to see if they were there). Today, I called the NTB location again. Spoke to C_ _ _. I told him who I was. He informed me that he had not checked to see if the tires were there or whether they had been paid for. But "if they are already paid for, you can come get them and take them somewhere else". He said, "NTB doesn't tell them they have to offer a customer any choices., no rescheduling. I informed him that this customer service sucked. He offered me no choice or offered to reschedule, nor did he apologize for the inconvenience, he didn't even do his homework before calling me. He said that I should call NTB and asked them about customer service. This place is a mess. I told him he had no techs because the place was not run efficiently or effectively, who would want to work here. I went to pick up my tires. No one there, no staff, no customers. He soon came into the room. I told him who I was. He asked, "Do you have paper work?" I was most definitely taken aback. I said slowly, incredulously, "Yes. I do." He then asked when was my appointment, I told him. He said, "Oh, yeah. Here it is". (Took him no time to do a little research). He went to get my tires and loaded them in my car. He didn't seem to care much how he put them in my car ( I have a Jeep Patriot, lots of room), or whether my view was obstructed. No concern for customer safety leaving the parking lot. The Laurel location is the ONLY location in MD I will use even though I live near several in Owings Mills. This is the only location where I don't feel like I'm being cheated out of my money or charged for services that are typically included with others unlike the Reisterstown Rd location. I went in yesterday because my brakes were squealing. The team there were very kind and took my truck in right away to assess the problem. They only took about 10 minutes to determine the issue and started the work right away. While waiting, they took the time to explain how the job would be done and were just all around pleasant and accommodating. They also informed me of the other services they offer there. I had to get my tires rotated and was not near my home I stopped in without an appointment and was met by Mr Forkwa the service manager with a great smile I didn't think I could get it done however he was more then helpfull getting me in and out in 30 min taking care of me and really helping me out his staff is great and they all seem very good working together . 2 thumbs down and a farting noise to go with it. My only regret is I don't have an extra set of hands to give 4 thumbs down. I was diving my friend around today as there car had a flat tire. They made a appointment for 1200 to have a flat tire looked at. Now Collins dictionary found using google says appointment is "an arrangement to meet someone or be somewhere at a set time". We were there at 12. Our scheduled time to be seen or met. They said we won't get to you until 3pm. WHY DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY! My friend asked if they could just check and see if they have a tire in stock so we can at least know if they are at the right place. Oh, we have tires. Apparently we weren't specific enough with this question. My friend calls at 3. NTB hasn't looked at it yet. FAILED AT THE APPOINTMENT TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. 4pm they finally call with there is a nail in the tire, we have to replace it. We don't have your tire and have to special order it. It's worth mentioning my friend has the roadside warranty for these tires they bought 4 weeks ago from NTB. It will take a week. But they do have a tire they could provide that is rated for half the mileage. Thanks a turd there guys, that is awesome. We ask if there is another NTB around that has the correct tire. They said yes, maybe Columbia or Silver Spring (cause those are two locations that are close together and easily confused) *rolls eyes in utter disgust*. So in conclusion the definition of appointment is not understood any longer or Collins dictionary is in dire need of an update. A 12pm appointment means you will be seen in approximately 4 hours. I guess NTB is like a trip to the ER on a full moon. And at the end, they didn't do anything except tell us the reason the tire is going flat. Thanks a pile there guys. No apology, no regret, just an epic waste of our day, time, gas and introduction of unnecessary frustration. Like we have nothing better to do with our day but sit around and wait for them to feel like getting to work. I am in the belief that this is a franchise problem. Late last night my tire developed a leak in the tire and I couldn't keep air in it. I made an appointment for 12pm at this location. I was told when I got there not to bother to wait because they couldn't work on my car for at least 3 hours. What was the point of having an appointment?!?!? I called back at 3pm and they still had t taken a look at it to tell me if they could patch the tire or what was wrong with it but was told they would have it fixed before they closed at 6pm. I received a call from them at 4pm that the tire had a nail on the side wall but they could not fix it and that they didn't have my tires. Mind you I had these current set of tires with the road hazard warranty less than a month. They said it would take them a week to order their tires from their distributor to fix my car. I asked if they could get them from another store and they said no. They said Silver Spring or Columbia had the tires but they weren't willing to get it from them nor call them they were sending me there. Basically they were not helpful at all. If they would have taken a quick look at 12am when I dropped it off instead of waiting 4 hours to even look at it I could have gotten my flat tire fixed today. Instead a friend had to drive me all over MD to help get my tire fixed and still not have it fixed by the end of the day and had to go somewhere else. I specifically also asked that they hand me back the wheel locks as other NTBs have lost mine before. The couldn't be bothered following that direction either and left it in the cup holder. Even though their alignment machine wasn't working that day, Brian and his guys took care of me when I came back the next week to finish up. They were all very friendly and provided great customer service. My car rides nice and smooth and I would be willing to come back next time I need a rotation or alignment. read more

I had a scheduled appointment for today at 3pm. I called at 2:25pm to let them know I was running late. Gary verified who I was and said he would let the guys know. I arrive at 3:23pm and the guy Chris (very helpful) came out and said he was the only one there working, (Gary wasn't there) but he could get me in, in about 3 hours. Because I'm a very busy person and pressed for time. I decided to wait. After waiting for my turn Chris tells me that his manager Karl said I would need to reschedule because he would have to be there to apply the managers discount and he was in the hospital with his son. Eventually I speak to Karl who got loud (not sure if he was really in the hospital because my mother is in the hospital and you can speak loud or yell in the hospital, but if he was I pray his son was alright). I told them it's not my fault if I go through the website about the savings discount being applied especially after I made reservations and I couldn't come back. Karl was adamant about nothings gonna change and I'm not getting my tires done today. Chris was a good guy, I feel for him. But Karl was an assh*le he could of given Chris whatever code to apply the discount for my tires and Gary should of told me I would need to reschedule because they were short of staff when I called to say I was running late but he wasn't there when I arrived. I strongly suggest choosing the used tire place next door or going to another NTB. I usually take my car to the BMW dealership and only came because of the huge discount the website offered. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! Got a call from the District Manager and they told me that the discount I received online was a glitch and they CANNOT honor it, great customer service smh!!! read more

It has been a long time since I have experienced this type of discrimination. And I have experienced worse. My father in law is a 40 year customer of National Tire and Battery and referred me use this company to purchase tires for my truck. Yesterday, Wednesday morning May 22nd around 7:30am I walked into National Tire and Battery's Laurel Maryland store to inquire about and purchase a set of tires for my truck. I waited to speak with the person in the office who I later found out was the store manager Dan Tyler. I greeted him and I casually told him I worked over night last night and was tired butt I need to get tires for my truck. He was very impersonal toward me. I gave him the tire size. Two other customers, older white men were also in the office area. One hands him keys and they all crack jokes with each other. He was more preoccupied with accommodating them than helping me. He clicks around on his mouse with the two standing there and informs me he cannot find a complete set of tires for my truck at any location. I advise him of the brand I was interested in and provided him manufacturers part number I found on the NTB website. He proceeds to tell me he didn't have that in stock anywhere. He then tells me he found a set of tires for a brand I never heard of called NEXEN. I looked it up later to find out it's the cheapest tires NTB offers in that size and in my opinion a substandard product. He tells me he has nothing else and cannot help me. I leave. I walk back out to my truck in disbelief and feeling perturbed. How can a company the size of NTB not have any tires in that size I need anywhere in Maryland. As I'm sitting in my truck Dan Tyler walks out with one of the older white men escorts him to his truck parked next to me and they joke and pat each other on the back in front of my truck as I'm sitting there watching. At this point I knew something wasn't right. I message NTB's Facebook page. I'm still currently waiting on a response. I felt I needed to further investigate this situation so I go to the next closest location. I arrived at the Silver Spring location and speak with the person in the office store manager Kirk Mattis. He gets my tire size, turns the computer screen to me, and goes over what NTB has in stock in the area with me. My tire size was available in all brands with plenty of inventory in stock! The brand and part number I wanted was also in stock! He tells me he can have the tires by 1pm and my truck will be ready by 3pm! He confirmed my suspicions. I did not even tell him of my experience at the other location. I asked Mr. Mattis how inventory works and he explained. If something is not in stock at a location it will be pull from the areas main warehouse in Baltimore and delivered by a parts runner. I purchased the tires then returned to the Laurel location in my spare car to get Dan Tyler's business card and inform him I was accommodated by another location. My truck was ready at 2:45. I picked it up and went into work for the night. I was extremely satisfied with my experience at the Silver Spring location. It is disheartening NTB employs people like Dan Tyler. He provided me poor customer service, lied to me, attempted to sell me a cheap substandard product, and flaunted his treatment of the two white customers in front of me. I was disrespected and treated in an inequitable manner. This is not the first time I've had this type of experience. I've always came to NTB for years, before the switch to Mavis. I usually don't do reviews, but Latasha/Latoya (I believe thats her name) asked me to kindly do one, when I first came in this morning. Well here goes, I had an appointment at 8am, for an oil change & windshield wipers, doors didn't open until abt 8:15 am. Latasha was very friendly, great customer service & all. However, that's where it ended. About 3pm. I called, since I hadn't heard anything. The gentleman said, my assistant said she called, but you didn't answer, you car is ready. I received no call or vmail. Went to pick it up & asked why the wipers weren't changed, he said we didn't have your size. I said when I made the appointment i asked about bringing my own & I mentioned it again when I checked it. He said we don't do outside parts ....wait what & nobody knew this information when I made the appointment nor when I walked in. Lastly, I purposely didn't mention that my tire light came on this morning & guess what nobody called to ask anything about checking it. I went to this location after finding a screw in my tire. I went here right as they were opening with 3 employees on site and no cars in the garage and no other customers present. I asked them to look at my tire to see what the damage was and they said it was a simple patch. When I asked if they would be able to repair it, the employee told me they were too busy with appointments even though no customers were there and the earliest appointment that I saw on their screen was 9am and I was there shortly after 8am. The employee told me to go next door and see if they can help. I went over there and they were very helpful. The place is called discount auto repair and tire and perform other services other than just tires. All the employees at this other place were very nice and would highly recommend going there instead of NTB which did not want to help me get to work and also did not want my money at a time when they were not busy. read more

I brought my car in 1/14 for a routine oil change at 9:30AM. 5 hours later I am still here because Edward "accidentally" drained my transmission fluid in my Hyundai instead of the oil. Apparently not only did they mess my car up, they don't have the proper machines to fix it. They went next door to another shop to ask them if they could help put the transmission fluid back in the car. The other shop told them I would have to wait until 5PM until they are able to help me. I will be pursuing legal action especially since my transmission was drained without my permission as well as the fact NTB is no longer able to service the vehicle. read more

Well lets just say this. Dont schedule anything other than getting service from this place on the day you go in. I waited 5 hrs for new tires & installation on 3/27/2021. I asked then midway thru what's taking so long. The store mgr Brian Q. who is Brian Quinn who also has an false review on here for 5 stars confused me with another customer and immediately started fussing with me. I told him he had me mixed up with someone else and he stormed off like a toddler and never apologized. I cant say that I would return in the future for more service or recommend them to anyone. I waited from 10:23am to 4:23pm. Another thing I had made the appointment online prior to coming in but they didn't see it in the system. So the tires I specificly requested wasnt instock there and I had to choose a down grade. I have another post update to follow. Stay tuned. read more

Visit one, no employees were available to work that day, despite my appointment. Second time, had car ALL day, went in at closing and it hasn't been touched. "We only have one guy working." I had an appointment at 1230 on this previous Saturday, 06NOV2021. I received a phone call the morning of asking what services I was having done. When I arrived for my appointment there was a sign posted on the door "No Techs". I went into the reception area and no one was at the front desk or in the building at all from what I could see. I walked out to tell my ride to hold on until I can speak with someone. 10 minutes later the front desk staff showed. I told them I had an appointment and the told me they had to cancel all appointments for that day. No phone call to tell me they cancelled. So I drove 30 miles to be told my appointment was cancelled. Gas isn't cheap these days especially for a wrangler. This type of service is completely unacceptable. I will be making reviews of this particular NTB online. Will never go back and wouldn't recommend them. read more

The entire experience was horrible, my car should have taken at most 2 hours I was there a total of 5 hours in the rain. I was in the rain because other customers in the store didn't have on mask. They said they were gonna give me a discount of of one amount I get to my car look at my receipt and the amount was a lot less! Bought two new tires yesterday....on my way back today. One is completely flat

I've been here a few times, even back when they were still Merchant's and not NTB. I really appreciate the man at the front desk that's always there, he's a sweetheart and very kind. It's also nice that they have complimentary coffee and TV playing. However, be prepared for very long wait times (even with appointments). I've waited 2 hours all 3 of the times that I've went to get just one tire replaced. Bring a charged phone, or be prepared to watch the TV. There's a shopping center nearby walking distance, so that could be helpful but I really do think they need to pick up the pace on tasks, as the wait times can hinder customers from returning. Additionally, you've got to double check after you leave. The first time I went, they didn't blow up my tires enough and my air pressure warning was still on as I pulled out of their lot. I called and asked them what was up and they said it takes a while to turn off. I listened to them and 2 days later my warning light was still on. I went back and they filled it up appropriately, apologizing that they didn't do it right the first time around. The most recent time I went, just a few days ago (tire replacement as well), I went home (20 mins away) after they were done and realized that they forgot to put my spare tire/donut in the car. I called and had to drive all the way back to get it. I'm not sure if all of their services tend to have a drawback like mine have, but be prepared, and always double check the services they administer! read more

I had an appointment for 10:00 am this morning to get 2 new tires. I arrived at 10:00 and was told it would be about an hour to 1 1/2 hours to complete the job. When I returned 2 hours later my car was still waiting to be serviced. When I arrived at 10:00 there were 2 cars in the bay area being serviced. 2 hours later when I returned there were 4 cars in the bay area and my car was still sitting outside waiting to be serviced. How is it that my appointment was at 10:00 and there were only 2 cars being serviced when I arrived and yet at 12:00 there are 4 cars being serviced and my car is still waiting!!!!. There is a lack of professionalism and organization at this NTB and good customer service is non existent. The responsibility falls directly on the management. Can't help but think there is a link to the demographic of people serviced. read more

I am a former Service Manager for NTB in Germantown and Gaithersburg. On May 28, 2021 My husband took his 2015 Audi Q5 to the Laurel location because it's the closest one to us and we wanted to give them our business. First, even with an appointment, it took hours to get the vehicle in the bay. I went and picked my husband up to run some errands while we waited and finally went back a couple hours later to see if the vehicle was ready. We get to the store and the vehicle is still up in the air and asked where they were with the service. We were then told that the oil drain plug was stripped and the only way they can get it out was to "destroy my oil pan"! I went and took a picture of the drain plug and it was indeed stripped. They blamed the last person that changed the oil which was another NTB. I am not going to blame either location because it could have been the previous location or Laurel trying to get it off. The parts are not expensive anyway. My concern is the level of customer service that was given. It was unacceptable to not have any call during the time that our vehicle was at the shop advising us on the situation. What made it worse is that I get a call the day after telling my car is ready to pick up when I already had my car. As a former manager of NTB, this is not the level of customer service that we encourage our associates to provide our customers. From now on, I will drive the 30 minutes to one of the locations I used to work at because I know that they will provide the service I need! read more

Extremely poor customer service. I brought my car here after having the battery die on my way home from grocery shopping . after getting a jump start I was able to make it to this NTB nearby and the battery was in bad shape. I informed them about my situation, as I had a car full of groceries and no ride to home which is about 30 minutes away. This was around 1 pm. The mechanic told me they would definitely be able to replace my battery by the time they closed at 6 pm. After waiting there all afternoon I checked at 5:30 pm and they had still not started working on my car. At that point they refused to provide an answer as to whether they would be able to change the battery that day. After stating that I need an answer since the car was full of groceries and I had no way to get home, they then told me that I should just get another jump start and drive home. They did not care whatsoever that I had waited all day not did they care about my safety, as I had been informed by the roadside assistance the car was not safe to drive. I was DREADING having to get new tires today. I lived in Laurel for over 20 years and used to get my tires at Merchant, but then moved and started going closer to my new home. I decided to go back to Merchant today which is now NTB. Before I went in, I called NTB and a place by my house to compare prices, and ended up choosing NTB because they had a buy 3 get 1 tire free sale. I was having a hard time making a decision between 2 brands of tires and had my fiance call and talk to someone. He spoke to Gerry and kept relaying to me what Gerry was telling him. I was undecided for so long that Gerry suggested we come in and decide at the store. I have a hard time making decisions. I had done my research by checking Consumer Reports and a "zillion" websites to read up on the tires I had narrowed it down to two. When we got to the store, we felt an immediate connection to Gerry. He was one of the most patient and understanding sales reps I have ever dealt with. He was soooo patient with me and looked up ratings in his book and online and showed me a tire sample in the store. Oh my gosh, he actually made the whole experience pleasant. Another thing I noticed that impressed me very much was that he was handling the phones and all the customers who came in the door by himself and he immediately acknowledged everyone who came in right away and said he would be with them shortly, and he answered the phone after a couple rings and asked people if they could hold. One lady obviously couldn't because she kept going on and on, and he answered her questions but asked her 2 or 3 times if she would hold, but she wouldn't stop talking. He never once got nasty or impatient at all. He really seemed to like his job and enjoy people. This was the best tire-buying experiences I have ever had. By the time we left, I felt like we were old friends. I was talking about wanting jerk chicken so he suggested a restaurant by the shop, so my fiance and I went and it was so good we went back in and told him we would like to take him there sometime. Also, when we went back to get my car, and when we went back to tell him about our awesome restaurant experience, the first thing he did was say our names and that he wouldn't forget us. I have one question: Is he a fine-tuned robot? I am joking, but he was just so awesome, so please don't let him quit as long as I plan on buying tires.
