Subject: Formal Complaint Regarding Inconsistent and Excessive Labor Pricing I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a serious issue with pricing transparency and consistency across Mavis Tires & Brakes locations. On June 18, 2026, while traveling from Fort Walton Beach, Florida, to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a steel belt separated in one of my tires on Interstate 10. The failure caused my Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7L diesel truck to pull sharply and handle poorly, forcing me to exit in Live Oak, Florida. After hours, I left my truck overnight at a Mavis Tires & Brakes location and took an Uber to a nearby hotel. The next day, I replaced all four tires for $2,188.09. I requested an alignment but was told the machine was not calibrated. I also asked to recalibrate the tire pressure system but was informed the device was not charged. During service, the manager advised that my truck needed front brake rotors and pads and quoted $575.00 for parts and labor. With seven hours left in my trip, I declined. After returning to Myrtle Beach, I purchased premium Power Stop rotors and pads. At the Mavis location at: 116 Debo Drive Myrtle Beach, SC 29579 I was told they would not install customer-supplied parts. An employee directed me to another Mavis location. I then contacted: Mavis Tire 2075 US Highway 501 Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 They confirmed they would install my parts and quoted $750.00 for labor only. I immediately challenged this quote as excessive. As I was preparing to leave, the manager reduced the price by $200, from $750 to $550, without any change in scope or explanation. This drastic and immediate reduction is unacceptable and strongly indicates that the original quote was inflated. A labor price dropping by more than 25% within minutes demonstrates a lack of standardized pricing and raises serious concerns about arbitrary or opportunistic pricing practices. Even at $550, the labor-only charge nearly matches another location's quote for both parts and labor combined. These inconsistencies are not minor--they undermine trust and suggest that customers may be subjected to widely varying prices for identical services depending on location or circumstance. For reference, typical labor costs for replacing front brake rotors and pads on a Ford F-350 Lariat 6.7L diesel are: * $150-$225: Very fair * $225-$300: Reasonable for higher-rate facilities * Over $350 labor only: Requires clear and specific justification A quote of $750, later reduced to $550, is not just difficult to justify--it is unreasonable. I expect a formal review of this incident, a clear explanation of how labor pricing is determined and enforced across Mavis locations, and confirmation that corrective measures will be implemented to ensure consistent and transparent pricing. I also expect a written response detailing the outcome of your review and the actions taken to address this issue. I did make a report to the Better Business Bureau. I was contacted by Mavis Customer Service regarding my concerns. While I was calmly explaining the situation, the customer service representative became noticeably impatient and dismissive. I went in for a simple tire rotation. Guy says I need new struts and shocks. 1233.00 . My car only has 61,000 miles. He caught me off guard. I said, well, okay. Then he comes back and tells me they broke my axle. I had to find my own ride home and again, back the next day. They tried to charge me for the axle. I asked the removed parts from my car be placed in the back of my car as I was taking it to Honda to check Mavis' work. When I got to Honda, I learned the parts Mavis placed in my car back were not my Honda parts. They were someone else's aftermarket parts. Did Mavis sell my Honda parts? what were they hiding? I called the number you suggested Tuesday after Labor Day and a very nice, empathic lady took down my story and information. She said Sandy would be contacting me. He did on Wednesday and left a message. I called right back and I left a message. By Friday, I hadn't heard back so I left another phone message. We've never talked. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he had an appendicitis attack and has been out. I'm guessing what I encountered at 2075 Hwy 501won't be addressed now. Anyone walking into any store and standing there alone for approximately 10 minutes would have the expectation that they are next in line for help. I went into the Myrtle Beach location because Jiffy Lube told me I needed new tires and a new battery. I went in, expecting to need both of these items. The wonderful service people at this location told me that I do not need a new battery and that my tires are fine. They also checked my starter and my alternator. I love that this company and the gentleman that worked there we're not going to take advantage of me. But I will tell you when I do need new tires and new battery that this is the place I am going to come and will highly recommend it to anybody that needs Tires or batteries. read more

Today I had a bit of an issue with a misunderstanding on a service request . I left with a concern on my bill that I paid , this evening I was out taking a walk and received a call from the Manager of the NTB that I frequent, he had spoken with the associate that handled my issue and wanted to let me know that NTB will be crediting me back the amount that was in discussion!! I called this NTB ON 501 MYRTLE BEACH on Thursday to inquire about the price for my vehicle and was told 30.00 tax and throw fee for the oil change. When I arrived Friday, I was told that the price wasn't even close and that it would be a lot higher. I asked why when I told them last change, I used conventional oil that they didn't tell my vehicle required a blend much higher price. The salesman who wasn't taken care of me yelled at me and told me they didn't have the damn time to look it up on the phone. I asked him why he was being rude to me he said if you don't like it get the fuck out there. A verbal judo ensued with the rude person decided to yell if I didn't leave, he would KILL ME!!! I yelled at him and said, "Old man, you are going to KILL ME? He said no, not him. This guy here will KILL YOU as he pointed to a guy coming from out back. He again proceeded to tell me he and this guy would KILL ME as they approached me together, getting in my face while saying disgusting rude things, like Fng my mother up her as* and other disgusting things. I did yell back as I was so taken aback how I was being treated. After being threatened again to be KILLED, I exited the building and went to my car. As I was about to pull out, the guy who was supposedly going to KILL ME came out and spoke to me. He apologized for the disgusting display of ineptness that his crew member had displayed. I apologized to him for yelling at him because he wasn't the aggressor the other guy was. He offered to get my vehicle in, and he would try to do it for as close to the quoted price as he could. I said thank you. I appreciated him trying to deescalate the situation , but I wouldn't trust his crew to not damage my vehicle. I left and called the Myrtle Beach Police to report the death threat. Great place for quick oil change, tire rotation and go. Stopped in early on a weekday before the big July 4th holiday travel weekend for oil change and tire rotation. Service writer took info and got me into the lube bay quickly even though it was early and they had a few leftovers in the shop from previous day. Primary reason for stopping in was the coupon from local grocery for discounted oil change, rotation and was happy that it was applied to my vehicle which requires synthetic oil. Added bonus was tech during the course of the inspection, change, noticed nail in the tire. NTB patched the tire and as part of the rotation saving potential breakdown later on down the road and saved the cost of purchasing a new tire replacement, since the tire still had mileage left to go. Oh and they also use torque wrench on wheels which was greatly appreciated and big improvement over shops that rely on air wrench to spin up bolts until they stop and potentially over tighten. Overall satisfied with the service and wait time. Piece of mind knowing that vehicle was safety checked and back on the road. Staff seemed friendly and knowledgeable. They do take appointments at this location. Cost with coupon was less than comparable service centers. read more

We were referred to NTB by another mechanic that was booked out into the following week. We called the shop and Alex and his crew got us in and out the same day. They did an excellent job with diagnosing the issue with our 2004 Yukon XL. They could have recommended us getting work on the car that would have required more labor and more parts. Instead, they gave us the option of replacing the axle and filing it down. This saved us alot of money considering that we will be retiring this car in the next year. I really appreciated their honesty and fair pricing. We've gotten tires from them in the past but they will now be our mechanic of choice when we come back to MB. read more

I hit a median in the road and popped the front tire. When I pulled over I happened to be right in front of NTB Tire. I couldn't have had this happen in a more perfect spot. We began having issues with our sons car on the day he was to drive back to Atlanta. Jerry took it in and assured us he could get it repaired that day. The root cause was not what I first thought but the recommended repair fixed the issue. They refuse to do an oil change because I have three drops of oil on the floor. I have a diesel truck that was 3000 miles past my oil change. It leaks a little bit of oil when the oil breaks down. They thought it was safer for me to drive 1000 miles the next day without the oil changed because of the three drops of oil on the floor read more

Paid $6493.47 for an engine with a one year warranty. The engine blew up in a couple of days, they have had my vehicle for 5 months now and are offering me $5352.50 to scrap my entire vehicle. We have paid out mileage to employees for using their own vehicle and have rented vehicles to cover the shortage of this van being out. They are basically asking me to give them over $1100 and drive my van off of a cliff. Honor your warranty or give me a full refund with mileage reimbursement and vehicle rental it's that simple. Spoke with the store manager Jerry, the district manager Mike and now their insurance company. Absolutely ridiculous. Take your broken engine out and just give me what I deserve, a full refund. After 2 months of it being at an NTB store they towed it to Ford, here is Fords statement: "The van was towed to our dealership on 10/13/2017. We were authorized to perform the initial diagnosis by tire kingdom. We had to replace the battery to start the diagnosis and perform a compression test. Found loss of internal compression, internal engine failure. Found cause was the upper radiator hose was not p[roperly installed, it was too long and kinked preventing coolant flow from the radiator to engine causing engine to overheat. Also has a hole in the valve cover, and needs intake manifold replaced. Estimate for repair is $8,800 plus sales tax. If no repairs are performed, the initial diagnosis fee, partial teardown, and new battery is $1058.64. in addition, there is a $30 per day storage fee starting on 10/15/2017." read more
