The one young lady working in the front is Amazing. Excellent customer service and makes you feel welcome. I can't say the same for everyone else. This is my second visit and the food is delicious and has an authentic taste. The tamale plate has everything I enjoy (2 tamales, rice, and beans). Their Agua Fresca is fresh and they have options not on menu so ask for daily special. Tuesday they had a taco special, $2.50. Free parking and right down the street from The Works. Really nice place, friendly staff. My tacos didn't have much flavor other than day old meat and were pretty oily and full of onion. The tacos were inconsistent when it came to the meat, 2 tacos packed with meat and the 3rd one barely had any. Consommé didn't have any flavor, it was water with food coloring. Tamales were disappointing as well, the masa was perfect and moist but the meat had no flavor. Unfortunately I will not be returning after laying $45 for this meal. read more

We came here after leaving a Yelp event in Downtown Atlanta. We were both hungry for something different for lunch, and tamales came up during my Yelp search. We're both originally from SoCal where we could easily find great tamales, but we haven't been that successful finding great tamales in Atlanta. Parking was plentiful in the shared parking lot for all the businesses in this strip shopping center. From the outside, La Mixteca Tamale House looked a lot smaller, but this restaurant can accommodate a lot of people, including large groups. As we walked in, one of the employees quickly came to greet and seat us, which is a good thing because I first thought that this place was set up cafeteria style. The menu has a lot of different offerings, so those who don't like tamales will still probably be able to find something on the menu that they would enjoy. I zoned in on the tamales section of the multipage menu, and the pitcher of drinks for $12.50 quickly caught my eye too. We ordered 6 different tamales - 3 each. The bad thing about splitting an order was trying to figure out exactly which tamales were which. Even our server couldn't determine which ones were which, other than telling us, "Oh, this is a green one, and this is a red one." The flavors were good, the tamales had a good amount of filling in them, and the amount of masa was just right. We split a pitcher of horchata, which had a nice, cinnamon-y flavor and was not too sweet. From this pitcher, we each poured 3 glassfuls. Came here during Latin week and returned again shortly after my first visit! I really love this Clean, flavorful, great service restaurant! At first, I didn't think that a piña colada flavored tamale would be tasty. I was so wrong! Instead of salt, they use sugar in the ingredients of the MASA! The egg on top of the savory tamales just made it so perfect! We'll definitely return to this place again and again love the service and our server was so educated in what each of the tamales represent as far as why it was prepared the way it was, and the ingredients that were in it a nice cultural refreshment! read more

I've been craving tamales for months and have been struggling to find one that I truly love. I was doomscrolling through Uber Eats and saw this restaurant's offer of buy one get one tamale plates. The "plates" come with rice and beans and two tamales each. I ordered a fifth tamale for the heck of it. As a tamale lover, who typically has eaten them in a home setting, I've never had them with paired rice or beans so I thought the inclusion was interesting, but wow, I know it's just rice but I thought it was delicious! Here were my favorite tamales in order starting with the best-- Quesabirria, black bean, mild red pork, spicy green chicken, and lastly the mild mole chicken. This was the second time I stopped by - the first was very shortly after they first opened, service was slow,there were no menus yet and no margaritas, I wasn't feeling like it was gonna be a good experience so we just left - I made the commitment that I'd comeback and give them another shot. Tonight was the night... so the server was pleasant enough, left us with a couple menus and came back later to get drink orders - still no alcohol, so maybe waiting on liquor license? - but that's ok we ordered cokes- they arrived promptly in cans, no offer of cups, Ice or even a Straw- so we asked and received. I ordered the tamale plate it came with rice and beans (one quesabirria and one rajas) I was really excited to try them ... my partner had the traditional tamale and a taco plate. Food arrived quickly- I desperately wanted to love this place - but I found both of my tamales to be rather lifeless and lacking any richness of flavor. They looked great but I just didn't get any taste sensation, bland meat and all a bit dry. My partner who happens to be a Chef also felt like the food lacked love and no flavor and when he bit into his Taco he got a bit piece of chewy-fatty beef - the rice and beans had no flavor either (some cilantro or chopped onion would have helped) adding some of the hot sauces they had helped but, overall a lack luster meal and it truly felt like $31.00 would have been better spent next door. On a Saturday night, there was just us dining in, as well as a couple of delivery orders, so business can't be great. Though, it should be better, as La Mixteca Tamale House makes some fine tamales and I'm picky. I'm vegetarian, so there's that, but the rojas and black bean tamales were as swell as I've had. They serve sweet tamales too. The horchata was cinnamom-y. However, the refried beans, a side that a lot of places serve without thought lacked any flavor. For instance, a number of taquerias have excellent refried beans (not always cooked with lard). I hope this place lasts. If it were nearer to where I lived, I would definitely order those tamales on a week night. read more

There was good and there was bad at my first experience at La Mixteca. I lived in west Texas for a decade so I know a good tamale when I taste one. I ordered two chicken mole, one mild pork, and two different dessert tamales which I've never seen before. I also ordered a side of beans and rice. Let's starts with the good: The rice and beans were the star of the show at the tamale place. I do wish they could have added some cilantro and onion though.The mole tamale was barely edible. The chicken was sadly overcooked and didn't taste like chicken. There was a green sauce and an orange sauce with the tamales. Luckily I dipped my finger in the habanero first because it was waaay too spicy. The green sauce was ok. The mild pork tamale was ok. The dessert tamales (seemingly unnatural) were actually pretty tasty. The strawberry and sweet corn were winners. The Agua Fresca was spectacular! I met the owner and she was a very nice hard working lady. I do wish this place well. I will come back but not for the tamales. read more

I typically only write reviews when I am upset by something. This one is VERY different. My husband and I went to La Mixteca Tamale House on 6/6/2026 for lunch and the food was AMAZING. I left there feeling like I ate fresh, homemade food instead of someone opening up a jar or unfreezing some bulk product. We had tamales and tacos. The service was WONDERFUL, the food was outstanding. The environment was clean and fresh, just like the food. We enjoyed the food so much we will be bringing our adult children back with us. Further the value was solid!! I love tamales and usually have to wait until I am in Arizona to get great tamales. No longer! Right here in Atlanta there are authentic, wonderful tamales, plus a lot of other outstanding food! Highly recommend from someone difficult to please!! read more

I've hesitated to come dine in because they are still fairly new, but with the holidays approaching I needed to find the best tamales in Atlanta. This place is it! Eleven flavors daily first come first serve.. no one in the city can even claim 3 flavors daily. Also, they celebrate Day of the Dead so that's one key indicator that they not only serve REAL Mexican food but observe & preserve the traditions of Mexico as well. The decor was very tasteful not tacky and very beautiful. You can tell the owners dedicated time and passion into this holiday. Back to the food, the tamales were sooo good and the tacos with hand made tortillas were fresh. The menu is actually very big and will take time to try everything. The servers were amazing, Hailey and Yari were super nice and attentive. I think what I appreciated the most is when a manager takes the time to visit a guests table and introduce themselves and checks up on you. I got to meet the manager and learned so much about the history of La Mixteca. I'm proud to support a local family business. Last, I'm excited for the breakfast menu. No one else on Chattahoochee Ave is open at 6am serving hot breakfast. We are so lucky to have such a good Mexican restaurant in our area given the high closures we've had recently & prices are pretty cheap and average compared to Chicheria & Palo Santo. read more

I was a little skeptical at first because it was basically empty at lunch time however I'm definitely glad I went in. The restaurant itself was super clean and decorated for Valentine's Day. Service was amazing very friendly and gave me an excellent drink recommendation. Cucumber lime drink was really refreshing and went well with the sopas. I chose steak as my protein it had a ton of flavor and was cooked perfectly. The sopas were nice and fluffy with deliciously fresh toppings. I recommend adding some of their red salsa. it is spicy but it's the kind of spicy you want to keep just eating. it gave it the perfect amount of flavor. My lunch was less than $18. read more

I want to give a big shoutout to Valentino at this location. He truly went above and beyond to make sure we got our food. I had unknowingly placed my order through DoorDash with a different location, and when I arrived, I learned that this store hadn't launched DoorDash yet. I was honestly a bit disappointed at first, but Valentino immediately stepped in, fixed the issue, and personally made sure we were taken care of. Thanks to his effort and hospitality, what could have been a frustrating experience turned into a positive one. I drive by this location often and decided to stop by because this restaurant is new to the area (grand opening was a few months ago). I purchased 3 tamales, all pork, 2 green and 1 red to go. Not only are the portion size small my tamales weren't fresh, were very dry, and not flavorful at all. I've had better and cheaper tamales from the Senora at the back of the Chevron in Norcross. My beverage was a large horchata which also lacked a lot of flavor. I won't return to this restaurant chain. read more

The spicy chicken green sauce tamale is SO good. Tastes a lot like my mom's homemade tamales she makes every year. Everything is freshly made and delicious. I will say that adding some stock and seasoning to the beans would help a lot with the flavor. The beans are quite tasteless. Other than that, great service. Very attentive and nice. Cute atmosphere, clean and nice decor. I wish that the restaurant wasn't in such a random location though. I think they would get more recognition if they were in a busier area of town.
