This is the 2nd time eating here, the service is always great and the food is delicious, authentic Mexican food! I got the seafood enchiladas with shrimp and it was amazing! Very tasty and good portion sizes, along with sides like beans and rice, with chips and salsa at the table as well. It was a little loud since there was a large table full of annoying children, unsupervised by their parents, but that is no fault of the restaurant. The food was okay, but the prices didn't match the menu. They charged me more for the food than what was listed, and even the total with tax didn't add up (I'll include a picture). I asked for a receipt, but the cashier said she accidentally pressed "no receipt," so I didn't get one. The picture I took from their copy shows the total -- $32.97 plus $2.56 tax should've been $35.53, but I was charged $36.77. It's only a few dollars difference, but it feels dishonest. Overall, I don't appreciate being overcharged. If you go here, make sure to get a receipt. I won't be coming back. read more

The was good not special. Felt like the burritos were a bit too pricey for the size and amount. My husband order a bacon with sauce breakfast burritos and said the burrito barely had any bacon. Came over here after a day of riding. I looked at the menu through their website to settle on items I may be interested in . Upon arriving to retrieve my food I was to be charged an additional $20+ for my items . I decided to leave the food and get dinner elsewhere as I had been quoted more than twice the price that was listed. When speaking to the owner about this, I was told that their website hadn't been updated in at least six years and I should've checked the DoorDash for current pricing?! How bassackward . I did still end up leaving a tip as the owner was very patient, but I will 100% never visit this establishment again . Came in to treat myself to some chilaquiles before work and I am so glad I did! Red chilaquiles with eggs sunny side up, queso fresco, crema and a side of rice and beans were delicious!!! Places is a joke. Lady can't even figure out how to run a debit card or credit card via the machine unfortunately was not even able to try the food there as I had ordered food to go and the lady at the register was unable to figure out how to charge my card. As there machine chip coming up with the same thing disabled debit which clearly state that they do not accept credit card or debit card and only want cash at the first time that her first response was, you can just go get cash and pay cash. Large selection of Mexican seafood dishes along with beef and chicken. We got the shrimp fajitas and a variety of crispy tacos and everything was delicious. They use very large shrimp in the fajitas so you get nice, satisfying bites of shrimp and vegetables. Such a nice surprise in a small, hole in the wall place located next to a coin laundry. We will be back to try more items. Service was fast and friendly. We called our order in, they gave us a time for pick up and it was ready as indicated. No drama, just hot, fresh and delicious food. We chose this spot because it got decent reviews and it seemed to be a little cheaper than the two Mexican restaurants across the street from our cabin. We were wrong about the cheaper part. They just haven't updated their website because the prices there: https://www.bigbeardining.com/nuevovallarta.html are nothing like the ones on their printed menus. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very typical strip mall Mexican restaurant. There was no one around and it was kind of tucked I enjoyed the chips and salsa (they give you one basket free with your meal) more than my entree. I ordered a veggie enchilada and chili relleno combo, which came with some rice and refried beans. The chili relleno was the most disappointing part because it's an item that I usually really enjoy when it's prepared properly. The breading on this version was super thick and sweet and the result was a soggy mess (think of a soggy corn muffin flavor and texture). I ended up trying to excavate the chili from the breading because I was famished. The veggie enchilada, rice, and beans did not taste particularly fresh, but it was all hot and salty, and for being as hungry as I was, I still ate most of it. My partner ordered the super burrito (essentially a double burrito because he usually orders two burritos anyway). It contained ground beef, carnitas, rice, beans, shredded lettuce, sour cream, and cheese. It was $24 and extremely basic. I'm confident we could have made something similar at home. He got bored of eating it halfway through. Our server was nice and patient as we took our time deciding what to order. He wasn't attentive to refilling our Sprite and water glasses, even though there was only one other table occupied. Very lackluster experience; we won't be back. read more

On a short trip and wanted lunch when we arrived. The place is super small but the booths are roomy. The staff was nice enough but the food left much to be desired. Neither the chicken tacos nor pescado tacos had any real flavor. The chicken did have a strange taste to it though and although I ordered two, I left one on the plate and didn't finish the first. The margaritas also had a strange taste...almost like the whole thing came out of a can, including the alcohol that was supposed to be in it. We weren't sure what was happening with the guacamole cause it was very light in color and so creamy it could have been squeezed from a small packet. The salsa was off too. The chicken in both my taco and his burrito was not good, not seasoned whatsoever and smelled like it was not fresh. My taco was old chicken with too many chunks of onion. The guac had absolutely no lime or salt on it, and was in fact nothing more than slices of avocado with no seasoning--can't call it guac. I've NEVER seen my kid not eat guac but this was a first! They went above and beyond for us and the place is so welcoming and inviting that it makes you truly feel at home. My fiance and I had to do laundry and decided to go on a last minute fathers day date. We ordered the carne asada fries with churros. The fries were so tasty perfectly cooked. The carne asada also was very well cooked you can tell they really put the heart and love into them. The churros were excellent! Perfectly done as well and I love their salsa. Best kept secret in Big Bear for Mexican food!! Highly recommend the taquitos, chili rellenos, California burrito, enchiladas! I'm sure everything else is good too, but just haven't ventured from the items previously mentioned! They also give you chips and their delicious salsa with your to go order which was a nice surprise. The staff is super friendly, and service is quick. While most restaurants in Big Bear are packed on the weekends, we are always able to get in and out rather quickly here.
