I've wanted to check this place out for awhile as the patio out front always looks inviting when I walk by. I ended up inside at the bar, but I needed to kill some time waiting on my wife to finish some work stuff nearby (she works for a wine supplier). It turned out to be a great decision--had a nice pepporoni pizza, thin crust, but chewy, neopolitan-like...and a glass of Italian wine, as well as a Peroni (on tap, no less). Bartender was super nice...he was into classic literature and I think his parents were from Italy if I recall. Great conversationalist and always nice to encounter such when you're on your own. 5 stars is an easy give...and I'll be back with my wife to try some of the dishes that aren't pizza as they all looked great as they went by me from the kitchen yo the patio. read more

We walked up and hardly waited to be seated, the staff was so friendly. The margherita was sooo strong lol and packs a big punch so well worth the money. The caprese was nice and fresh, just wish the tomatoes were a bit more plump. We didn't wait too long for our entrees, and they came out great. I got to watch mine be tossed in the wheel of cheese! So fun! I'm a big cheese lover, so this pasta was right up my alley! The tomato sauce for the spaghetti was outstanding. Overall very happy that we made the trip and tried them out! Seating is a bit small, but there is indoor and outdoor. We also noticed they had gelato on the way out! read more

This is by far my favorite restaurant in Austin. I love sitting on the patio and enjoying the 2nd street district and it always create a lovely ambiance for the perfect night out. Ordered a Margherita Pizza for delivery at the drive-in theatre nearby and it was so good the only downside was that it was delivered cold :/ I'm sure if I had tried it fresh it would have been perfect! The pizza was great. Gnocchi with pesto was spot on. But the $4 per itty bitty Diet Coke and additional charge for the refill is very 1990. I don't drink sodas but my dining partners did and it was embarrassing so I just paid the bill. read more

We were walking by and the pizza smell was so powerful that we decided to eat at Numero28. It was an 30 minute but well worth it. Wow just wow the food was so delicious. We have always had great food & service here! They are always accommodating. Yesterday we had just walked out of another Italian eatery on 2nd, and quickly realized wait we know where to go . A place where the staff is happy, and the food is exceptional! We ordered the Austin pizza, so darn delicious. If you like a little spicy this is good. Credit card fraud & terrible food. I'm visiting Austin since I'll be relocating & decided to stop by on a Saturday night. Pros: customer service was friendly at the time. Cons: I ordered the lasagna bolognese, 2 glasses of Cabernet and the cacio e pepe. Bolognese was lacking in flavor/salt. Cacio e pepe was too salty. The staff was friendly so I tipped 20% in cash regardless of the food. I just looked at my bank statement to see that an additional $10 tip was fraudulently added. I always take a picture of my receipts when I travel to avoid situations like this. I'll never go to this place again. I bet this is not the first time this has happened either read more

I've been here a few times over the past couple of months and the experience is average at best. The food and drinks could be better but they do have a cute patio dining area which makes for great people watching. Of the items I've had (cacio e pepe, bruschette, arancina, and vegetarian pizza), none have wowed me. However, the cacio e pepe, does come in a wonderful cheese round and gets mixed in front of you which I did love. Personally, it's not the place for me especially since there are so many great Italian spots in town and even on the same street. Please take this review with a grain of salt because I did overhear another diner mention how much he loves Numero 28 and is a regular. You might end up like him! read more

What can I say except it's literally the perfect place. Although I do prefer the outdoor seating , the inside is very cozy and welcoming. We went on a Tuesday and they had half off a bottle of wine, which I thought was cool. I ordered a Chicken parm and the calamari, my goodness that calamari changed my life. I had never had better calamari. The chicken parm was perfection! It was crispy and the pasta was on point. My brother go a huge piece of lasagna and it was very tasty, he finished it all. Note I've never seen this boy finish a whole plate of anything.m, needless to say it was fantastic. The service was very friendly and our food came out all at the same time. Had a dinner on the patio before the weather started to get unbearably hot. We had wonderful service too (good wine pairings with the meal). Rucola E Parmigiano salad kicked things off - a huge mound of arugula and parmesan shavings with red onions , tomatoes and a vinaigrette with balsamic Reginella Pizze - buffalo mozzarella with fresh basil and great crust with nice chew Bucatini Alla'Amatriciana - Mmmm tasty. hollow pasta that soaks up the sauce - cured pork cheeks with a spicy finish. Yum. Sangria is light and easy to drink. Pinot Grigio and Super Tuscan were both good drinkers too. read more

My wife and I stopped in to No. 28 (that's how it reads from the street) for dinner while in Austin for the USGP. Food, service and ambiance (if you enjoy people watching) were amazing. We split a margherita pizza and tiramisu for dessert. Probably the best thin crust pizza I've had in years and the generous piece of tiramisu was equally impressive. The drinks were great as well. If you like "old fashioneds" I recommend their Full Monty Old Fashioned. We liked No. 28 so much we went back two nights later for dinner and had an equally great meal. read more

I experienced one of the most racist dining experiences I have ever encountered my whole life in the restaurant courtesy of AJ who wasn't even our server. She felt the need to yell across the restaurant that she thought my friend, on his birthday, looked two decades over than he was. She then proceeded to come over and put her hands on my other friend and I without consent or warning, she called the two men both bitches and started talking about how to figure out a guy's dick size. I looked around and realized we were the only table that was not white and she was going out of her way to make us feel uncomfortable. This review is overdue. I stopped by here the week before Thanksgiving and was served some solid Italian pasta by some amazing staff. My partner and I opted to sit at the bar where they had wine on tap! We opted for a bottle of the Nero D'Avolo Stemmari -- and it was half off because it was Tuesday!! AJ was our bartender / wine server / order taker. By the way she handled herself so confidently and how she was making the other patrons laugh and giving our recommendations, we were immediately drawn to her personality and thought she worked there forever. Imagine our surprise when it was her FIRST DAY! We had to confirm with another server (Rene, who had started 20 days earlier!) to double check. Both AJ and Rene had awesome personalities and made us laugh throughout the night. Stellar staff here at Numbero 28! Onto the food! I got the lasagna. This was AWESOME, definitely made in house and cooked to perfection. I really loved the texture of the extra cooked bits. One of the best restaurant lasagnas I've ever had. My partner got their cheese wheel pasta. We totally skimmed over the fact that this dish didn't have any meat, but honestly the full mouthfeel of the cheese and hand made noodles were awesome on their own. We also opted to get a scoop of their gelato at the little kiosk near the door. I honestly would pass on this next time; compared to the quality of the actual dishes on the menu, this was clearly not made in house and artificially sweetened / flavored. If you're looking for dessert, I'd encourage you to instead order their tiramisu -- if I ever find myself back in Austin and here at Numero 28, I'll get that instead. All in all -- GREAT staff, AMAZING food, and HALF OFF WINE BOTTLE TUESDAYS! read more

Tried the carpaccio and loved it. Tried the caprese salad and just mediocre. The tomatoes were flavorless and I think the appetizer was a bit small. The olive oil didn't have ant flavor either. We wanted to try a new Italian restaurant in the Austin food scene and we stumbled across Numero28. The wait was 45-75 minutes for a party of 6 so we decided to come the next day and make a reservation. The food was nothing too special. Some of my friends were still hungry afterwards and we think the quality of the food didn't reflect the price. The restaurant is quite small with dim lighting so I understand why the wait was so long the previous day. The waitresses treated us with the upmost respect and they were really attentive. However when it came down to splitting the check, our waiter said it was too complicated and we had to just do it on one card. The party before us were able to split their checks and they had way more people! read more

I really wanted to love this restaurant, because of the very tik-tok worthy pasta in cheese tableside, but alas...it wasn't meant to be. We ordered chicken parmesan & the famous cacio e pepe. The parm was served before the cacio, and the chicken was extremely overcooked and dry, not covered in cheese as is the norm. It comes with a side of spaghetti with a marinara. The sauce was flavorful and had a little kick to it. I am curious to know if the noodles/pastas were made in house. The cacio came out a bit later and was tossed in the cheese. I was very surprised at how liquidy it was, and also at the temperature which was barely warm. It was actually cold before I finished eating. Also, I was expecting a much creamier sauce. Not certain if this was the result of a service issue, or if it is just normally served that way. Though I am not a fan of the food so far, I think the ambience is great, on the patio especially . The cocktail menu seemed intriguing, so I might go back to try the pizza, drinks and dessert. Who doesn't love gelato?! Service was very attentive, but not particularly knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. They did bring the check and close out extremely fast, so that was a bit of a bummer. We felt a bit rushed, but I would have ordered dessert and an after dinner cocktail. Everyone deserves a second chance, so I will circle back to this spot when the stars align. read more

Had drinks at this place over the weekend and the bartender, server/manager, and two cooks we saw were not wearing their masks properly. All four had their masks under their noses. Early on I explained to the bartender, "it only works if you cover your nose, too." He thanked me and pulled his mask up - for about 5 minutes. When I realized no one was wearing their masks properly, I exclaimed to my friend loudly, "they all have their masks under their nose - even the cooks." Tonight i got a to-go caesar salad and it kind of had a weird grainy texture but i ignored it because i figured maybe it was seasoning or something. Ate most of it but once i got to the bottom the crunchy grainy stuff got more noticeable. I looked down and i realized there was literally chunks of compacted dirt. I had been eating dirt covered lettuce. Its bad enough im already paranoid about covid, now im paranoid im going to end up with some kind of parasite or e coli. I called and talked to the manager and he said they wash the lettuce and didn't seem to believe it could be true. Well all Ill say is I dont typically just put dirt in my salad and i wouldn't choose to eat dirt. I was refunded but im paranoid and probably going to book a visit to my doctor read more

Loved their Caesar salad. I was expecting the chicken to be dry like many other Caesar salads but their chicken was seasoned really well and came out juicy. They also make their dressing in house. Next time I come back I'd like to try one of their pasta dishes. They offer a few tables for outdoor dining but the space is a bit small to accommodate for social distancing. read more

I love me some Numero 28. Sometimes we refer to it in the office as Numero 29, but that would mean something was 1 better than Numero 28, which just isn't the case. The meatballs are delicious and all of their pizzas are very good. The spinach salad with beets is super delicious. I try to get it every time I go in to make myself feel like I am making healthy choices. Spinach salad with lasagna sounds healthy to me! Start off with some prosciutto as it is always delicious. I find their mozzarella very boring, so I usually skip it. Also skip the gelato, not sure if it sits out for too long, but there is something off about it. Even my 14yr old didn't love it. I would much rather have a plate of meatballs vs. the gelato. I could eat the aracina and meatballs every day. The beef carpaccio is very tasty. If you're looking for fancier Italian food head to Italic, but if you want good old fashioned Italian comfort food at a reasonable price Numero 28 is the place to be. read more

**Review of Numero 28** Tonight we dined at Numero 28 in Austin, TX, and had a mixed experience. The food was decent but not particularly memorable. We ordered a variety of dishes including Arancina Vegetariana, Cacio e Pepe, Eggplant Parmigiana, Gnocchi Pesto, and a Margherita Pizza. The flavors were satisfactory but nothing stood out as exceptional. What did stand out, however, was the cost of the drinks. We were charged $40 for a combination of 3 Diet Cokes, 2 Iced Teas, and 5 regular Cokes. This seemed quite excessive for what were just standard soft drinks. Turns out refills are full price. Additionally, a server poured us ice waters that had black floating chunks in them, which was quite off-putting. We set the waters to the side of the table. While the service was acceptable, the overall value for money left something to be desired. Given the steep drink prices and the issue with the water, I'm not sure I'd return unless I was sticking strictly to the food menu. read more

What an amazing place!!! If you go to this restaurant, YOU MUST GET PIZZA!!! I sat at the bar and had normal service. The staff was very nice and were always making sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant isn't huge, but it's very nice. They have patio seating, bar seating, and seats on the inside. Sweet place, chill vibes. FOOD- WOW. The pizza was AMAZING!!! I ordered a margarita pizza and the Lasagna Bolognese. The Lasagna wasn't good, but the pizza made up for it. The sauce they used tasted so fresh! It was so delicious. The best pizza in town! Amazing pasta selection! The service is outstanding! They have vino on tap! We normally start with the carpaccio then on to some pasta or pizza! I personally love the canelloni. The sauce is delicious! As for pizza, the patate pizza which is potatoes, gorgonzola, mushrooms and oregano is a must try! Every pizza on the menu is great but it is my personal favorite. Don't leave without trying the cannoli or gelato. You'll definitely not regret visiting this place! I ordered the margarita pizza and minestrone soup to go from Numero 28, and both were delicious! The soup was hearty and flavorful, perfect for a comforting meal. The pizza didn't taste like your traditional margarita pizza, but it had its own unique twist that I really enjoyed. Even as takeout, everything was fresh and tasted amazing when I got home. Nothing is better than a good, true, Italian pizza. And this place has just that. I've had way too many pizzas in Italy and I can tell you that Número 28's pizza tasted just like Italy's! I was SO impressed. We also ordered a lasagna that was ok...pizza is definitely their speciality though. I'll definitely keep coming for the pizza!! What a fantastic new restaurant! I was there recently with a group and had such a wonderful experience! Marco took such great care of us. Instead of ordering, we put our meal in Marco's hands and he brought us most of the dishes on the menu for us to share. They were all so delicious! They had the place next door as well and it seemed to be a partner that made delicious fresh pasta dishes but this has now dwindled down to lackluster pasta and all dishes. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert. It wasn't necessarily authentic, but it had a fun twist to the flavor. They also gave the bride a complimentary gelato, which was super sweet. Heads up, prior reviews noted validated parking, but they don't offer that anymore. We parked on a garage down the street for $12 for 2 hours. Overall, we all loved our first experience at Il Brutto. The quick and kind service, delicious food, and vibes (the outside is especially beautiful) were 10/10!

In case you weren't aware, pizzas baked in a wood or coal fired oven are vastly superior to others and they cook much more quickly. I need to brag about the staff; Firstly, there's a presence of management which I greatly appreciated because I was a restaurant owner for more than thirty years.
