This place is a Superior now and WOW. I ran across an unnecessarily rude employee who turned out to be the manager. A complete rude lady for no apparent reason. This behavior is completely acceptable because she has a huge attitude with a smile and instigated the entire situation with me and I still have no idea why. I don't care why to be honest. I'm just shocked that a manager would conduct business like this. I went in today to buy a few essential items for my home, I also went to see if I can get cash back,now as I was next in line. The cashier was pretty rude ,she did not say hello to me once as she scanned my items.looked at me like I was in the wrong place, as I continued, I had ebt cash. Now there's is no policy stating that there only up to $100 dollar limit cash back. And wasn't aware of it either. So when I swiped my card ,It prompt me what cash source to use and I pressed cash and when asked for the amount I put it in and then the clerk goes in and press the x button preventing from getting the cash back, the cashier is mexican lady so the only language she could speak is Spanish no English at all, and I think she was rude for doing that, she goes and tell the other clerk in Spanish that is was my fault ,we had to call another clerk to fix the issue it took 5 times for them to do thos so called process, the customer service horrible, when they got an interpreter he spoke with me in English and proceeded to do the same, bit then called a supervisor ,who wasn't vert helpful, he told me that they couldn't give the cash back because it was a 100 dollars limit, but the whole when they are speaking they are talking in Spanish, and heard say a racial slur to the cashier,clerk , I told them it was rude to speak in your language while I'm standing here in your faces., then when they gave my my money back in cash form and then I asked could they put the money back in the card I was told no they couldn't do it, know that I was very upset that I came this store, never again, they are rude and unprofessional and need to learn the English language, talking about someone in front of their faces is very un customer service savy and worthy of coming back. Very happy they closed the store at Temple City, most of the employee was not friendly and unprofessional deal with the customer, they are rude, and impolite, if you are the customer picking the apples to the bag, the staff should wait for you to finish putting into the bag, but the staff will yell to you, and even dont know how to say excuse me, they just push your cart away and pull their goods cart infront of the apple section! I usually come to Buy Low when I need to cook for a large group. Tacos are my go to dish since they're so quick and easy to make. Buy Low makes it even easier by being a one stop shop for everything I need to make tacos. The only two marinated meats I've tried from here are the carne asada and al pastor. Carne asada is usually $3.99/lb and al pastor is only $1.99/lb!! It seems a little sketch to get a pound of meat for only two bucks, but no one from any of my parties has ever felt sick after eating it, so I guess it's safe! While I'm here, I pick up tortillas, salsa, and some chips. The little taco tortillas come in a pack of 60 for $1.50. Next to the tortillas, there are these bags of tortilla chips that are super good. I think they're made fresh every day. They sell salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole, and that kind of stuff in the very front. I always get the salsa verde ($3.99/lb) and sometimes pico de gallo too ($3.99/lb) if I'm too lazy to make it myself. read more

Numero Uno provide bad service. We were here a few months ago when they first changed from Valu Mart to this new store. Don't know if it is because we were Asians but my brother asked the manager nicely to see if we can buy cans food advertised in bulk/box and he said we can buy one can only. ONE CAN! My brother had very courteous attitiude and asked nicely and got treated this way (he is usually a very nice guy who believe in Karma). The vegetables produces and the price was definitely not as competitive as Valu Mart was (and nor as fresh). Don't expect the area to look nice, which I don't mind since I know for sure the prices are better than any other place. Don't live in the area anymore but any chance I get, I shop here. I am always aware of my surroundings and there are multiple hispanic men surrounding the parking lot, who will stare hard at you and make disgusting remarks at you. They do not allow you to enter with a baby stroller they expect you to leave it outside. Risking it to be stollen and having to walk home without a stroller carrying all your groceries in your hand while carrying your INFANT THAT CAN BARELY SIT UP and a diaper bag! I'm disappointed in what I witnessed today. I went to gather ingredients for a BBQ that I got invited to. I planned to make a salad and take a pint of the fresh guacamole they make there on a daily basis. This guacamole is so delicious!!! So good that $&%@# employee was dipping a tortilla in it with her bare hand and eating right out of the container!!! She had no gloves and disgustingly long acrylic nails, and in bad need of a fill... It was obvious to me that she hasn't had a manicure in weeks! So I could imagine how much bacteria she had growing underneath her nails. To watch those nails and that damp looking tortilla being dug into the food like that, totally disgusted me. They have the most fantastic deals on produce (Wednesdays) and meats (Thursday). It's your typical Mexican market so expect some ghetto with the cheap prices. The worst day to go is Wednesday - it is INSANE. Little old ladies have no problem running you down with their carts to get to their veggies ... and they won't say sorry. Wednesday and Thursday are their deal days and so their busiest days - good luck getting parking. But if you don't want to jab elbows with the die hards then opt in for any of the other days - the prices are still damn cheap. read more

This market has very convenient hours. The staff is very friendly. The reason I left 3 stars is cause the produce is sometimes bad. The onions rotting and peppers soggy. The butcher shop is very clean and the poultry is fresh Do not buy their packed (discounted) meats. They are hard and old apparently. The cashiers are friendly but some dont speak english and are kinda slow. The baked goods are relly good. Everything is organized properly and I have never seen a mess. Yesterday, 01-12-18, I took my daughter and wife shopping at buy low, they were hungry and decided to grab some food at the food station. My wife ordered tuna salad, Spanish rice, fried potato wedges, tostadas and aqua fresco. She didn't get to eat, however, my daughter did. A few hours after she started complaining about a stomachache, at mid-night she threw up, and threw 3 other times since and in addition to that she also have a fever that's over 103!! We are at the doctor now only to hear that she caught a stomach virus due to the poor handling of food. This kitchen needs to be inspected and graded. The workers need to practice proper hygiene and they also need to practice food safety. Please be careful buying food from this store. Food Bourne illness and cross contamination is serious and can be detrimental. read more

Pros: Have cheap prices on the vegetables and fruit produce Once in awhile they will have organic strawberries, blue or blackberries but they dont advertise it. Always stocked Aisles are fairly clean. CONS: As you read by other yelpers DONT go Wednesdays it's madness, when its sales time. Customers have commented that they have seen mice in the big boxes where the oranges are kept, I haven't seen it so I cant confirm, so wash does produce good. Wednesdays are a complete nightmare. Imagine an entire family literally picking through whatever produce specials are happening that day. The store is overly crowded on Wednesdays. They do offer good meat deals on Thursdays which tend to not be as busy. Occasionally I would shop there with coupons if I was getting a super good deal but when the cashier would stand there staring at the coupon trying to decipher what it says because they don't speak or read English, I gave up the couponing idea. lol They make the best bollilo rolls, super fresh and usually warm. Okay I come here once in a blue moon for sweet deals on my fruit and veggies, but boy it's a pain in the ass just to find parking! If you are planning on going to this place on Wednesdays, you're in for a treat. The moment Buy Low is open, hoards of Asian grandmas and grandpas rush into the market as if it was Black Friday. This market has a tendency to run out of shopping carts, so you see carts from Kmart, Home Depot, and maybe Target or Albertsons here. If you manage to find a cart, go to produce section and fight your way through a mob of people fighting for all the goodies. Like bad drivers, the Asians are pushing their cart at you to get you out of the way, and the spaces are so cramp it's hard to find a place to park your cart with all the heavy traffic flowing. Once you make your selections and head over to the cashier, your shopping cart cannot be pushed towards the exit because of a design flaw in the cashier desk being too narrow to fit a shopping cart; kinda lame right? To solve this issue workers are outside collecting shopping carts to be given on the opposite side of the cashier desk so that you can pack your food in them. Alright now my take. I think this place has really good deals on food, and it's closer to my house than let's say Superior Grocers. There are A LOT OF Asian people who come here. I think when restaurants run out of produce and want to make a quick stock up, they would come here and pile their shopping carts with unimaginable amount of veggies. The market also has "Produce Wednesdays" where a lot of the produce is on sale, but only for that day. And the place turns in to a ZOO!!! GREAT prices on the produce though! We arrived and parked in the parking lot right in front. It can get crowded so wait patiently. Not all drivers are good drivers... We went in and man it was packed! Asians and Latinos predominately shop here. Old and young. We found our veggies, meat and etc. Produce here was cheap and fresh looking. They were abundant and in good quality. Again, it gets crowded so have some patience. Other than that, I'd drive my mom out here again for groceries but I wouldn't drive out here just for all this chaos. The workers here seemed nice though... well some of them. OH! and the bakery... OMG. The conchas and variety of sweet breads and deli. I was in heaven! Like most markets in El Monte they are a dime a dozen but this one has a charm to it. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is the weekly specials they have it's produce wed and meat Thursday. They used to have an all around special on Sunday but they have got rid of that. The deals can be great like 2.50 the pound for filet mignion, 1.75 the pound for T bones, 2 dollar the pound rib eyes. So yeah it's all good and the quality of the meat is good for the price. Also in the bakery hay have the staple Mexican pastries but they also have fresh baked bread and bread filled in with cream cheese and jalapenos.
