I've been feeling nostalgic about Numero Uno pizza and decided to finally try the one on Hawthorne Blvd. a couple of blocks from where the old one used to be years ago. The building is rather old and has seen better days. There is a small parking lot in the back or you can park in the spaces dividing Hawthorne Blvd. in the middle of the north and southbound lanes. We arrived a little after 2 and the lot was completely empty. We were afraid the restaurant might be closed but we were just fortunate to come during their downtime. We ordered a large with sausage and mushrooms and sat down at a regular table near the entrance rather than one of the booths that make up most of the dining area. The front counter area was a little dingy but the rest of the dining room with booths and the back entrance area seemed much cleaner. The cook was doing double duty as chef and register person but was very cheerful and friendly. I asked him if this was part of the original business that was down the street years ago and he confirmed that it was. The pizza was ready surprisingly fast since deep dish pizza normally takes about 30 minutes to bake. My wife was pretty happy with the pizza but I felt it wasn't quite as memorable as the pizza served in the original location. The crust didn't taste quite as sweet and the texture, while being similar, seemed different than it was when it was brought out in the black, iron pans that seemed thicker than what they serve now. Still good but not the great quality I remember from the past. I deferred to my wife when rating the pizza but my personal opinion would gravitate more towards a 3 star score so let's compromise and call it a 3 1/2 score. Worth trying but won't transport you back to a happier time when food could be awesome and a bargain at the same time. It was close enough to bring back a good memory or two though. read more

Nostalgia makes this place good but it missed the mark. The service was exceptional. Staff was very friendly. I ordered online arrived 25 minutes later and waited an additional 5 minutes or so. One thing that I was excited for was the Romano puffs.. these used to be sooo flavorful with lots of garlic. They were NOT as flavorful and just full of oil :/ i was most excited for this...i also ordered the wings in the original flavor and they gave me just plain fried wings :( another dud. The saving grace was the pizza. We ordered the works pizza and it was better than I remember, the crust was nice and crunchy. Will probably try one of the LA locations to see if the Romano puffs are just a miss here . read more

This is a great hole in the wall type of place. The food is delicious and filling. I ordered the lunch special, a personal pizza, salad and drink. They salad was fresh. The pizza was ingredients were chinky. The pizza dough had crispy edges and fluffy center. The loaf much special is filling. The server was polite and attentive. He checked on us regularly and provided free refills of our drinks. The ambiance is of an old school pizzeria. I recommend checking this place out. read more

I called to check and was told by the lady who answered that the offer expired on the 20th which doesn't make sense since I ordered on the 15th and was given 10 days. 2025.01.15 We order regularly but I'm gonna switch out. This is the second order in a row with skimpy sausage and cheese. You can count the sausage and are lucky if there's more than 2-3 pieces per slice even if you check under the cheese. The crust ends up being extra thick and dry. I wish they'd push the sauce and cheese further. Used to be a favorite but unless you want a lot of bread give it a pass. I have tried this place multiple times- it's local, and close to my stomping grounds. Unfortunately it lets me down every time. Tonight we ordered 2 pizzas, garlic cheese bread and a calzone. I ordered the calzone because I prefer veggies my friends don't care for on pizza. We ordered delivery- it took 35-40 min which wasn't bad. I think they use grub hub though. No delivery fee- but lots of "fees". Thats the world today- I guess. So no one complained about the pizzas- but my calzone was not done. The dough in middle was raw. I stopped there- so this will be last time for me ordering. Food being just ok is one thing. Not getting the food completely cooked however is just unprofessional, gross, and absolutely unacceptable. It's a pizza place- come on. The dough has to be done! Total ick vibe. I seen it as i took a bite- then took all the toppings out of middle to investigate. Doughy middle- How is that ok? Thats also not including we paid over $100 for 2 large pizzas, calzone and 4 pieces of garlic cheese bread. Plus tip. So- honest question. When ordering delivery- and tipping is independent of the restaurant- how do you express your satisfaction? If I could give this zero I would! We've visited this location and the previous many times over the years . Not sure if it changed owners since the last time we were there. The lady who checked us in was frustrated with our big party trying to make the specials work. The pizza didn't taste the same and it was not very clean. But here's the main problem!!! We ordered two servings of the wings. We all bit into them at one time and the middle was COLD . We put them back in the bowl thinking they would TOSS THEM. We get our "new" order and guess what we got!? Our bitten chicken pieces recooked!!!!!!! So we got our same order back- they tossed it all back in the grease to re-cook them - along with our bitten piece's. Seriously disgusting. God only knows what they do .... The cashier hardly wanted to give us a refund we got one order refunded what a joke!!!!! She's so unbothered and didn't even care. So disappointed what a waste of money! Numero Uno has been a special place where my parents took me as a child. Nothing fancy about the inside, but just delicious, fluffy, thick crust pizza. There is a hint of sweetness, it's my all-time favorite. I've gotten take out several times and have enjoyed it but I decided I wanted to take my daughter here to enjoy it fresh. What an amazing outing, tastes just as I remember. The man working there was so attentive and friendly. He really made the experience worth the trip and I hope to come back and enjoy pizza with my daughter on a regular basis. I parked in the back, there was about 3 spots but it's very tight. This is solely based on my experience from 06/16. I am giving a star for their customer services. They were kind. Today, I ordered 2 deep dish pizzas. The first was a pepperoni pizza with spinach, and sausage. The second pizza was "The Works". I should have checked the pizza before leaving but it would not have mattered because they were covered in cheeeeese. I both the pizza per my father's request for father's day. Initially, my father asked for me to order pizza from the location in MID WILSHIRE. I immediately told him no because no one is driving over there. Well, let's just say I should have listened to my dad. He did not like the pizza . On top of that the pizza was not what I ordered. I got a pepperoni pizza and I don't even know what the second pizza was. My dad was told by someone else that the pizza is not the same as the Mid Wilshire location. We usually love it here and the food was good but they used the thick dough crust for the thin pizza whack was a little disappointing! We have been Numero Uno fans for over 40 years and I even worked their in college and after We got married for a while so we know the food well! The Romano bread puffs aka monkey balls were also a little off and odd shaped but flavor was still good. WTH happened to Numero Uno??! I ordered a slice and got home and it looks like this. Are we serious? First they raise their prices over 50% in the past year plus, and their ingredients also gets worse too. I called the store and asked for a refund, and someone named Erica said unless I bring back the slice I can't get a refund. She couldn't give me a refund or credit. Talk about horrible customer service. So I got the GM's name-Henry- and will contact him to talk about this mess. This is basically a disgusting slice of frozen pizza with speckles of cheese. I was introduced to Numero Uno pizza back in 1976 in Northridge. This is a very unique baked deep dish pizza. We always order the bbq chicken pizza and i get either a meatball sandwhich or chicken Parm. Garlic bread comes with the meal. The prices here are very reasonable. Another reviewer said expensive my chickem parm came with bread and pasta spaghetti. $13.00. North italian 24.00. Service is friendly and I'm sure if mistakes are made that they would correct them. I recommend try the original Numero Uno pizza it's different than any other chains deep dish. read more

Oh my lord, I feel terrible leaving this review since our waitress was a sweetheart. My aunt wanted to celebrate her bday here, so we did. The food was so bad. The chicken had such a weird taste to it. The pizza was almost frozen like it hadn't been cooked through all the way (perhaps they freeze them in advance?) The restaurant was hotter inside than outside on an 80+ degree day. They obviously leave their air conditioning off throughout the day.
