With recent signage alluding to new ownership, not to mention the two hour wait times of the more popular delivery spots in town, I figured it was worth giving Nunzio's a shot. I got my standard order of mozzarella sticks, salad, and a pizza. The mozzarella sticks weren't my favorite, they're the light breading variety that can get soggy quickly when delivered. They had okay flavor, but seeing as this is almost exclusively a takeout spot, they'd be better served to use the thicker-batter alternatives. The house salad was full of dark greens, which was a bit unexpected since most are iceberg or romaine. It was not good. Luckily, the main event, pizza, was very good. The crust wasn't overly-cooked, the sauce to cheese ratio was good, and the toppings were well distributed and tasty. While I'd certainly have the pizza again, it'll be awhile before I try the sides here with my future orders. read more

Nunzios is one of the most underrated pizza places in an area with an insane amount of pizza places. The pies are tasty and consistent and the only reason they don't get 5 stars from me is because the local pizza game is insanely good. If you are buying several pizzas Nunzios is a great spot because the food comes out on time and tasting great. read more

So I usually don't write bad reviews but this time I feel obligated to write this review. So I called in an order for a half cheese half meat lovers pie and 6 garlic knots. They said it would take 20-25 minutes, and to leave a name. I only live about 5 minutes away and it's in my area so I thought I'd try it, what a mistake that was. So 20 minutes pass I arrive at the pizzeria and give the name of my order. They look frantically for my order and turns out they gave away my order to someone else! How do you not verify that they were the person? I asked for compensation and they offered to give me the garlic knots for free. Alright no problem. I get home and these are the smaller garlic knots I have ever encountered. I will never return to this place and I hope this review gives you a little insight into my experience and steers you away from here. read more

Ive ordered food from nunzio four times since i moved here. All four times they made major mistakes on the order. Today i bravely tried one last time. I slowly dictated that i wanted a cheese steak sub sandwhich with mozzarrella cheese and he asked if i wanted a cheese steak pizza , i reiterated i wanted a normal cheese steak sandwhich with MOZZARELLA cheese . When the order was ready , he handed me a cheese steak pizza pie ‍i was noticably upset because i waited 25 minutes for it and payed way more than i should have for a cheese steak sandwhich . The two guys working there said they would make a cheese steak sub for me really fast ..i went over the order again and reiterated mozzarella cheese only...i got home, opened box and it was a cheese steak sub with american cheese. I threw it out and waisted $39 ..i am officially done with nunzio pizzeria of scotch plains. This is probably the best non-chain pizza joint in the area that's open on Sundays. Keep in mind that's not saying much, because most good pizza places here are closed on Sundays. It's a small step above a Domino's pizza - very small. For a sausage pie they even use the same deer-dropping sausage bits that Domino's uses (apparently). Gross. On the plus side, the guy did have a football game on the little TV. On the minus side, he was so into it that when he cut our pie into 8 slices, some of them were gigantic and others were tiny. I'd like to give it 2 stars just because the pizza is good but at this point I can't. This is new ownership it seems, at least the last year or so. Almost every order for delivery we have received has been incorrect. Always have to call back and they do apologize but it's gotten to be enough already. I have to also mention the salad is so small it's like a handful of lettuce. My son keeps telling me it's time to give upon them after 20 years and I think he's right. read more

Probably the best pizza in scotch plains and surrounding area. The dough is perfect really, not too thick, but not too thin. The flavor of the sauce is great. Although I find some inconsistency, the Gramma Pie is fantastic, the best I've ever had. Highly recommended. I'm not sure why other reviews refer to the staff as rude, that has never happened to me, and I get takeout from there a few times a month for,the last five years. Never a problem. They have a few tables, but I would not consider this a dine-in place, as it is cramped, sometimes there are pizza boxes stacked on the tables, or delivery drivers sitting at them. But for takeout, they are great. I also recommend the meatball sub, or anything they have with meatballs: they are wonderful in flavor and texture. The chicken franchise is also really good, but I hardly get it because I think it's overpriced. Overall, great experience getting pizza and hot subs, the best in the area read more

I made my friend take me for pizza, because I can't get good pizza in California. He takes me to Nunzio's. The decor and the people are a little heavy on the "Good Fellas" kick. They've got pics of Donnie Brosco, the Sopranos, and Frank Sinatra on the wall. It's one of those places where you ask a question and they answer with a question. You say, "How you doin'?" and they reply, "How you doin'?" Or you ask, "How much for a slice?" and they respond, "For a slice of pizza?" The pizza is to die for. Fugetaboutit. It comes hot, thin, and full of flavor. Sorry, Wolfgang Puck, but I dig on the east coast pizza better. There must be something special in the water. I grew up across the street from Nunzios. It has always been the one food I make sure to get when I come home to Scotch Plains. i still think they make the best pizza in Scotch Plains. Today, though, my family and I made the mistake of ordering some of their sandwiches. Out of four sandwiches, three were inedible. My father got a "Leave it to Ciro", which he liked quite a bit, but my mother's, brother's and my sandwiches were some of the worst food I've had from a restaurant that I can ever remember. We got an eggplant parm, chicken parm, and veal parm. All of them tasted old. Old old. The breading was slipping off of the chicken and the veal. The meat was overcooked and tough. The only flavor the food had was just bad. I don't have many descriptive words besides unacceptably bad. I was so upset after the meal that I had to come and write this review. I can't remember a time in the last few years that my pizza hasn't been amazing, so that I'd have to give 5 stars, but these sandwiches were dreadful, and no restaurant should be allowed to serve food like that. This is by far my favorite pizza in the world. It helps that they are my hometown pizza, but it is flavorful, rich, savory, cheesy melty delicious Neapolitan pizza. When other places try, their crusts are too thin, too crispy, or too mammoth. Their sauces are too sweet or two bland. They are over or under spiced. But this pizza is great. I've been here a couple of times in the past. Love the food. However, today just made me think twice about being a return customer. I ordered a sicilian pie "the works" via their website. Even got a confirmation emails saying that they received the order. About 30 minutes later, I show up at the shop and they did not have the order. The guy behind the counter says, "yeah, the third party ordering site sucks." Really? No apology and that's all he said. I needed lunch so I ordered and had to wait for them to make it. Plain cheese pizza is mediocre compared to nearby pizzeria. You really have to take advantage of it while still hot otherwise, it's not good at all. Don't know if they changed people or recipe but I remember it being better a couple of years before. They have gone through a much needed renovation although the place remains small. Today though at around 2:45pm while waiting for a large plain pizza, I took the liberty of trying one of their pignoli cookies and when paying for the pizza, the bald man in red shirt reprimanded me, "..those are just not for free," indicating the cookies. "so, I'll pay for it," I told him. Then he yelled out to a co-worker, "Hey, how, do you charge fifty cents in this thing?" The guy with some cool tattoo on his neck quietly helped him. Then the bald guy asked me, "Do you want a receipt?" Hell yeah, you might accuse me of not paying for your puny stale pignoli cookie, Mr. Manners. Its the crust.... every time I bite into the pizza there is the soft, definite crunch that comes with a perfectly prepared pie. I have never been even a little unhappy with them. The ricotta pizzas are bomb, and everyone that works there is super nice. The guy with the tattoo on his neck, the owners son? owner?, he is always there and always helpful. Went there Friday night to pick up my pizza which I ordered 30 minutes earlier. It was ready. I thought that was a good sign. Wrong! I asked for the pie to be lightly cooked and when we got home and looked at the bottom it was burned. Not just fully cooked but burned so bad you couldn't even eat 4 of the slices.
