I went with 2 cousins to Nunzio's Pizzeria in Long Branch, NJ. Long Branch has had many, many pizzerias over the years. The original restaurants have all but disappeared. Who remembers Tony's, Freddie's, TJs, Tuzzios? Nunzio's although under different management offers the same local, friendly neighborhood feel of long ago. Our server, Laurie, was patient and friendly, answering all of questions. The owner, Chris Manzo, did everything to make our experience comfortable. He even humored us by listening to our nostalgic reminiscing over our old hometown that looks very different these days. I drank water and that was outstanding which says a lot these days. We all ordered our own types of pizzas and took away what we didn't finish. We also tried each other's choices and none of them missed. If you are looking for great pizza, look no further. Not your average pizza joint. While the place looks like a blast from the past (in a good way), they don't sell pizza by the slice. This really threw me off because all I wanted was a slice after leaving the beach. Instead, I got wings and garlic bread, my friend got eggplant parm. The wings were juicy. If you don't like spicy, don't get these, or ask for a dipping sauce. The pull apart garlic bread was crunchy and had a great oil-to-seasoning ratio. My friend's eggplant parm was delicious. The accompanying spaghetti... creamy and rich, I will never forget it. Seems like the place is BYOB and has a regular clientele. read more

As we placed our order, I asked our very attentive and sweet waitress, "It's a thin pizza, right?" We ordered the Pomodoro and Pizza Verde, wings and garlic knots. Wings. Hot and crispy. The garlic knots were dripping in garlic and cheese. You pour a little marinara on those babies and you are in HEAVEN. Pizza. I'm a bar pie kinda gal. This pizza was so thin and crispy. The undercarriage was perfect. Pomodoro was my favorite. It's the sauce. The sauce is tangy and complimented the basil and garlic. The bill arrived in a Sandlot DVD case. Nunzio's has been in our rotation before it changed hands from the original owners a few years back. The pizza was the main attraction for us along with the unpretentious, at home, byob atmosphere. Since then, despite managerial changes adjustments the decor, some menu improvements, and price increases, we kept coming back for the pizza which continued to be true the original recipe and the star attraction. Until now. The other night when we walked in the tables had been replaced with picnic style tables and benches which were not too comfortable. When we asked our server about the change in furniture, she told us that happened after a new partner appeared. We ordered our usual pie with salad and asked for some bread. Our server responded to our bread request by saying "I'll see if they have any". The salad was the same, the bread never came. We held out hope, but when the pie came out it was bit larger, the crust was thinner, and missing the usual flavor, the sauce was barely noticeable and pedestrian, even the pepperoni was sliced too thin and lacked flavor. It wasn't bad, but the recipe changed. We looked at each other, continued sipping our wine and knew we probably wouldn't be coming back. We did enjoy the past several years though! The newest owner has done a a good job of moving the business forward while keeping the heritage and core offerings in place. However, be warned! A large plain basic pie and small salad will run you almost $60 (!!!) after tax and tip. I'm not taking away any stars because its good owners and the food is fantastic, but if you order 2 pies, a salad and an app you are way above $125+ which is outlandish for a local pizza joint. read more

Excellent old timey Italian atmosphere with Sinatra & Co playing in the background.The pizza, salads, chicken parm, and focaccia bread are top notch. I sat down for Pizza and also took out from Nunzio's. Solid pie, is it the best I have had? No It is a nice local pizzeria with seating and service with personality. No frills for sure. Thin crust pizza cooked well done as requested, sauce and cheese are in good proportion. A slice definitely stands up to the flop test. I have had a sausage and pepper sandwich which was supposed to be eggplant parmigiana which was a takeout order. The sandwich was solid and we were told to come back another time to pick up a replacement eggplant parmigiana sandwich which we did a week later. Solid sandwich. Hours are short and if you don't call ahead for a table you may have a difficult time getting a table on a Friday or Saturday night. read more

This place has been a staple in Long Branch for close to 100 years!! Lou's amazing pizza received one of the highest pizza ratings 8.6 from Barstool. Lou has now brought in Chris Manzo to help run his business. Chris also has an 8.6 pizza rating in a restaurant he ran in North Jersey. This amazing duo has upped the level of pizza enormously!! Best pizza in the country!! Plus Pat Trama from the famous Trama's restaurant has also been brought in to make some great new additions to the regular menu. This is the same place Long Branch has loved for close to a century with some great additions!!! Place fills up fast so go early. read more

Bright, garish lights and out-of-place chandeliers. Small menu. We ordered the large cheese pie. It was super-thin and had barely any cheese or sauce on it....and at $22.00!!!!!We ate a few slices and left the rest there. Not only was the pizza bad, but we ordered a Caesar salad and those croutons.....You could break your teeth on those. Completely inedible. My advice?????? GO ELSEWHERE!!!!! read more

Well NEW Nunzio's, you just struck out and in such a distasteful way too. This once was a great pie. It was our go to, for years too. We're now officially done as the pie that my wife brought home (looked great), slid into the oven 450* for 2.5 minutes was SO FCKING SALTY I THOUGHT IT WAS THE RIM OF A MARGHARITA GLASS. The crust remains very good, but who the hell threw out the recipe for Louie's sauce? That was gold, and some asshole who was clueless as to what was in place, and thought he knew better. What a laugh. That guy making sauce plain and simply, should be arrested. So salty it made the pie inedible. A God damned disgrace, not tasting what he was sending out tonight (Fri. 2/16/24). I tried this place on a whim and was not happy at all. I paid $22 for a large cheese pizza with burnt crust, when the photo of their menu on the Yelp said that a plain cheese was only $14. I also ordered a Caesar salad, which was not very big or tasty, and had anchovies on top- so gross. That was $12, even though the Yelp menu said $8. So $36 total... what a waste of money, for a dinner that was not very good. I called to let them know that their prices are falsely advertised on Yelp, and they said "they have no control over it". It's been a while since I've been to Nunzio's but great is still great even if never ending staffing problems persist causing service to be stretched a bit thin. But stay cool and enjoy the unhurried night. A time warp of Italian goodness Nunzio's has been serving fantastic food to mainly locals thank God for as long as I've been around. You have to love a place where the cops come in uniform not for a bust but for pizza! Italian classics rule but specials can take it up a notch. And the pizza! Crispy, piping hot with super fresh ingredients how can you go wrong. We started with calamari that was light and crispy with the legs of course and marinara sauce for dipping, always a fave, garlic knots which were like garlic bow ties were delicious and swimming in garlic butter in a good way, and artichoke salad that was second to none. Sausage and onion pizza and a large plain were tore into like the fam a a tip on a famine . It's BYO which always adds to the equation since I rarely spring for the good stuff out, but bringing my own let's me take it up a notch wine-wise without breaking the bank. You can't do better for a night out particularly with a group as our bill came to $77 for 5! Time warp indeed. I've been coming here since the tax deductions were so small Snookie put them on bar stools in the kitchen, gave them root beers and had them watch Louie make the pizzas. The oldest is now a senior in college! I hope it's here forever! A classic that sets the bar high and delivers every time! Bring your wallet as it's cash only although there is a ATM inside. I don't understand Portnoy's score--way too high. After seeing the score he gave Squan tavern (equally too high), which used to be good in the 80s but is no longer, I'm convinced he's giving pity scores to the dives. Pizza crust is cooked right, and has the right density, but is bland and needs salt. Cheese and sauce were underwhelming. Large pie is a smaller medium. If these were $10 pies, and they made them quick, yeah, it's an OK pie--nothing to write home about. Other food was gross. Pasta was over cooked boxed pasta sold as homemade and sauce was bland and watery without the sweet depth that quality tomatoes provides. Garlic knots were soggy with oil, deep fried. Disgusting, frankly--wife refused to eat them. There had to be over two cups of oil used on 12 knots--literally squeezed it out like from a completely full sponge. Cool neon outside. Inside is a total dive. Cracked flooring tile. Old furniture. Cash only. Nothing about this place puts it in the upper 50% of spots around here. This is the second+ generation Jersey "Italian" food that was sold during the 80s and early 90s, before folks got internet and cable TV and realized what real italian food actually looks like. It's not even a good version of this Jersey pizzeria though--there's no pizza flipping show, and I'd be afraid to catch something from eating inside. Somehow it's still around, and it looks like some folks have nostalgia for it. If you are nostalgic for this spot, nothing i write will change your mind--I'm happy you found a place. But if you are used to good food and want good Italian in this area, check out Trama or Angelicas, or any number of good italian spots in the area. As for me, I'd take a pie from Bierravino or Tommy's over this any day. read more
