For a pizzeria, Luigi has a great menu selection with not only pizza but entrees that are tasty and huge in portions- beginning with a salad with main portions and sides. My favorite is the veil, smothered in mushrooms and asparagus. The claim to fame is the Grandma pizza. It's outrageous no other place comes close to it. Servers are customer friendly, if you need something changed or are not happy with anything they will promptly fix it, no questions asked or arguments. I've come here on several occasions now to hit my late night cravings. Comparable to the nearby restaurants in the area, Luigi's is one of the few open pretty late throughout the week. Located in a small strip plaza right next to 7/11, it's conveniently placed on the main road outside Asbury Park. So accessible to stop by and grab a slice or pie! Their slices are consistently good and quite large. We tried our first pie last night and I was utterly impressed. Ordered the chicken vodka pizza which was loaded up with so much cheese and meat. Got size Large.. I was definitely full after just one slice. Good food!! read more

Growing up at a time when a plain slice of pizza used to be $0.50 and now is over $3.00 is hard to digest. However, paying that amount when the slice is phenomenal, makes it easy to do. Wonderful, old school, family owned pizzeria with sterling service. Very polite staff and they even bring the food to your table with a smile. I was a little disappointed with this place because the location is great across the street from the beach... ocean view. It has outdoor bench seating. Fast food options cute empanada to order BUTTTTT... than I stand in line for a juice literally 20-30 minutes my fault.. but got to the front ready to order.. and the Blender is broken!! :(( I know things happen. Earlier today some friends and I were at Bradley beach and we got super hungry. My friend kept raving about how great Luigi's was so we all decided to try it. We all ordered separately over the phone for delivery. When I called the restaurant the lady in the phone told me verbatim "you better answer the phone when the delivery man calls". Astonished at how rude that was I said "Ok, no problem" and turned the volume all the way up on my phone, not to miss the delivery mans call especially since she said the food would take an hour. An hour and forty five minutes later I still hadn't received a single phone call from the delivery man nor the restaurant about my order. I called the restaurant 6 times to just try and get an update on the food and and they didn't answer the phone, not once. So frustrated, I got in the car with my friends and took the six minute drive from where I was to the restaurant. I walked into the restaurant noticing that the entire staff was just standing around, giggling, and goofing off. I told one of the workers that I had placed an order over the phone to be delivered to the beach an hour and forty five minutes ago. The lady then told me that the delivery man had just left with the food and that he tried to call me several times. Mind you, I didn't receive a single call and how is it possible that the delivery man just left with the food to deliver it but called me several times ???? IMPOSSIBLE ! She then called the delivery man, and told him to come back to the restaurant with the food. I finally received my food 2 hours and 15 minutes later. Not only did I receive this food extremely late but the order was WRONG, and the food was mediocre at best and it was COLD like it had been sitting around for hour. How could food be that cold if the drive from where I wanted the food to be delivered and the restaurant was only a 6 minute drive. Totaling 12 minutes there and back. Needles to say I will be telling everyone who asks me about this restaurant and my horrible first experience, who will never again receive my business. This place is really run of the mill despite its size (large, including a dining area in the back). The place seems to always be busy from weekday nights to weekends, its just busy. The workers here (and there are about 5 or 6 at a time) are always busy and seem overworked, therefore the service doesn't seem as pleasant. Going back to how ordinary this place is, the pizza is just ok. Its not bad but not great either, though the veggie pizza was ok. Its unfortunate too as it seems this is the only pizza place around -- that is not gourmet like the Ocean Grove shoppe or a commercial pizza like Dominos. There are no other alternatives it seems and this place doesn't seem to be able to carry the burden. So again not the worst place but is just average and mostly by default. read more

What the hell happened to this place? It used to be really good. We went there last night for dinner. The place was NOT busy at all. We sat in the dining room. Our waitress was a young pleasant girl- she is new. There was only one other table of 2 people in the dining room. The whole entire time we were there (about an hour) there were dirty dishes on 3 other tables from diners that were there before us. Granted, our waitress was new, so it wasn't her fault. There were others workers in the front working the counter. Again, it was NOT busy. A few times we noticed another worker who kept sitting at the table in the front watching TV !! There was no reason this girl couldn't clear off the tables in the dining room. It's disgusting looking at dirty plates on the tables next to you for the entire meal !!! There was an older guy just standing around in the front! I don't know if he was the manager/owner, but he also was doing NOTHING to clear the tables. A few times, he went over to the dirty tables, picked up cups and PUT THEM BACK on the table !! WTH???? He stood in the front area pacing back and forth watching TV. UNREAL !!! FINALLY one girl came out of the kitchen and starting taking the dirty plates off the tables. While we were there 6 young mean walked in and sat in the dining room. TWO of the guys had NO SHOES ON !!! They walked by the owner/manager (or whoever he was) and the staff in the front several times ! Nobody said anything to them ! This is definitely against health department rules ! UGH !! I ordered chicken parmesan. There was not ONE full piece of chicken. Actually, the pieces looked like chicken tenders. How can you screw up chicken parm???? We certainly will NEVER come back here again ! My son saw someone on the beach eating a sandwich from here that looked so good, he asked where they got it. With a sparkle, he said "Luigi's!", and recommended the margarita pizza and turkey club sandwich. We got the cheese pizza, which my son said is the best he's ever had; nice thin crust, just the right amount of sauce. He also got "Luigi's favorite" sub, we got the 12" but it was WAY too big for one person...6" is plenty! He loved it: Roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, lettuce tomato balsamic. Honestly, the outside of the building doesn't do this place justice. Its in the plaza next to clancy's tavern and 7/11. The owner is straight off the boat from Italia. Unbelievably delicious. the broccoli rabe and sausage was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Pasta was perfectly cooked, the vegetables were fresh and bright. Sausage was impeccably seasoned and cooked, very juicy. There are two Luigi's: in the front is a pizzeria that is usually busy with take out orders and has a few tables for very casual dining. In the back is a quieter restaurant with a delightful ambiance: murals on walls, soft lighting, tablecloths and cloth napkins, waitress service, etc. So, you can eat relatively cheaply in front. If you want to spend a bit more for a more substantial dinner, go sit in the dining room section. You can bring your own wine for dinner (which will save a lot on the bill). We have eaten at Luigi's for more than 7 years, mostly in the dining room but occasionally take out pizza etc. Food has always been quite good in quality and quantity and reasonably priced. Last evening, we went at 5 pm and were the first patrons in the dining room section. Our waitress was prompt to attend to us and continued to be attentive throughout the meal. Knowing the quantity of food, we did not order any appetizers. We simply ordered Shrimp Di Luigi and Shrimp Marechiara (both $21.95). Both were delicious. Entrées come with a nice large house salad (choice of dressing) and choice of pasta (even whole wheat if you prefer). Check out Luigi's, you'll be glad you did. read more

I came to Asbury Park NJ out of a strange curiosity that was sort of two fold...one to see the legendary Stony Pony Music Club (google it..) and to see the revitalization of a beach community that was basically left to decay for about 35-40 years. It's a New Jersey beach...so my New England mindset chuckles a bit..a lot of gorillas with gold chains and shamrock tattooed ethnic priders who might live under a bridge are definitely here...but there is a huge LGBT community that came here to bring some creative mojo to this town..and it has succeeded. The old bath structures and arcades are still here..along with a French bistro and some other cool elements... it's actually a very charming town...but waaaay too crowded for my blood. For food...the literal concept of "When In Rome Do Like The Roman"....I scouted out a strip mall pizza joint. If I'm in Jersey..I'm doing Jersey soul food. A veal parm sub/grinder/hoagie was absolutely excellent. Home made sauce...and real veal that was scallopeenied (verb) and breaded. Most of these places will cheat with the mechanically mutilated "veal product" that is mostly a piece of a fried breaded ground up veal patty. Luigis does it right...and the bread used was excellent...crisp outer texture and soft in the middle...perfect. I really like New Jersey..but I'm definitely not a Jersey Shore person (a lot of these parochial nitwits you can find at your local indoor mall..)...but if I ever came back I'd stop here again. read more

Every year our family attends Bridgefest.org at Ocean Grove and we make this place a part of our visit. The prices are way reasonable considering the bad value inside Ocean Grove itself. This place is right outside the entrance of OG. We always get the pizza so this review is for the pizza & calzones. They're different topping pizza slices are their specialty. Forget the "pizza" part -- Luigi's true title is "Restaurant & Pizza" and I would strongly urge you to go into the back for the restaurant part and sample their wonderful menu. Every pasta dish my family and I have ever had has been outstanding; my son is a big fan of the baked pasta. The garlic bread is amazing as well. Chicken parm is also a favorite among my brood. Portions are generous, so plan on sharing or packing up leftovers for another meal. The servers are super nice and accommodating as well. A great family restaurant for post-beach dinner. I really like this place but today the owner did a foul thing. A lady walked out with an order and then about 10 minutes later she returns and says she has the wrong order. So the owner put it aside and says yes that's a delivery order. Then about 10 minutes later he asked me what I ordered. I say I ordered a sub and he says here it is. And I said no that was a returned order. Plus that order is now about 25 minutes cold. Good thing I was watching the whole time or else I've been having someone's cold, returned lunch. I recently ordered delivery of lobster raviolis and paid extra for shrimp and an app. After waiting the delivery guy shows up and says "oh by the way we ran out of lobster raviolis so we have you what we had left plus added shrimp to regular ravioli" well I paid for the shrimp so that wasn't a favor and I don't like regular ravioli sooooo garbage pretty much. Tonight I decided to pick up. Baked clams were covered in some thick white goop (not on menu) and the gnocchi sauce was so burnt and cooked down it taste like pure burnt tomatoe paste.
