I've had my dip manicures done at Southie Nail Bar four times now and can say this is a solid spot especially if you're looking for trendy nail art designs. My dip always lasts 3 weeks+ and my natural nails are so long and strong. Overall the concept of the salon is cute, you get your nails done at a counter shaped like a bar - hence "Nail Bar". But, does anyone else struggle with sitting and positioning their legs? I find it a bit awkward since its uncomfortable to sit forward without going full staddle...Maybe it's just me lol. I like how you can book online in advance, this way you assure you always get your go-to technician. I've never had a problem with last minute walk-in either. Love going to see Emma and Melissa! They are both great artists, easy to talk to, get my job done within an 1-1.5 hour (depending on complexity). I got an french acrylic full set with chrome and it costed $95 which is really pricy compared to other places I've been. I also left with painful bleeding cuticles on several fingers. I was told I was going to receive a discount on the service and I didn't get one when I went to pay. Without a doubt the WORST pedicure I have EVER received. I went in without an appointment and was promptly seated in a chair. The technician barely looked at me, no pleasantries, etc. Whatever, I'm not a chatterbox. My feet were not in great shape and I said as much to the technician. She didn't acknowledge me. I happily hopped on my phone and began to notice that she wasn't taking long at all to scrub my feet, trim my nails, etc. The polish was whipped out, two coats, and a clear coat later, she told me to go to the dryer. I said, "well that was the fastest pedicure that I have ever received!" She shrugged and walked off to the front counter. I headed to the foot dryer, fiddled with it, and finally figured out how to turn it on. I then looked down and noticed how HORRIBLE my nails looked. Clipped uneven, no cuticle work, terrible paint job, etc. I went to the counter and said that I had a problem with the pedicure. I said that I was in the chair for only about fifteen minutes before being dismissed to the dryer. I also showed her the poor pedicure. The receptionist asked that I sit in the waiting area. She huddled with the nail technician, and I later learned that they were watching the video footage to see exactly how long I had been in the chair. The receptionist said that it had been EIGHTEEN minutes since I had arrived. I said that I'm sure that includes the time that I tried to use the dryer after the pedicure. I asked how long the pedicure should last, and she said THIRTY MINUTES. She offered to have someone else redo the pedicure - I declined - I refused to pay and I left. There are plenty of other options on Broadway. All of my neighbors go to Gaelic. STEER CLEAR of this place. read more

Disappointed with my recent visit to Southie Nail Bar. This was my second time having Anna as my technician (not by request), and unfortunately, the experience was very stressful. The issues began when I requested a simple single color service. Anna repeatedly pushed me to get chrome color (+$20 extra), and when I declined, her behavior became extremely unprofessional. She started slamming tools around, giving angry looks, and her entire demeanor showed she was clearly unhappy to continue my service. What should have been a relaxing nail appointment turned into an uncomfortable situation where I felt pressured and unwelcome. Additionally, though she opened a sealed tool package, I noticed the tools were visibly dirty with residue from the previous client - a serious hygiene concern. When checking the salon's displayed licenses, I noticed they had their business and health permits, but couldn't find Anna's technician license displayed. I've been a regular customer here, but there are several issues that need addressing: Aggressive upselling and poor attitude when declined Questionable tool cleanliness A technician who may not be properly licensed A nail appointment should be relaxing, not stressful. The quality of the manicure is alright (really depends on the nail tech), but the low rating is because this nail salon is SO dirty. You can see the grime everywhere and you can feel how sticky/gross the UV lights are when you put your hands in. They really need to clean up. Also they have a bunch of beta fish in these TINY single bowls mounted on the wall. It's actually so depressing because the fish can't even move the bowls are so small and they all look dead. Kind of cruel in my opinion. They need to donate those fish to people who will actually take care of them. read more

I recently got eyebrows and forehead waxed from Jason and he just took off way too much hair from forehead- am left looking bald from one side of my head and need to get treated for it. After the session, wax was stuck to my hair and was just so hard to remove, I had to wash multiple times to remove it . I'm left feeling terrible and can't look at myself in the mirror. They don't accept same day reservations online so I gave them a call and they could accommodate me in the time it took me to get there (~30 min). SO- I'm changing this because I got home and the gel manicure is already streaky at the tips (like 3 hours later?) and I noticed a few flaws in the paint. Bummer because the lady was super nice and the color is really cute. We'll see how long it lasts! This place is very clean, the techs are so nice and all 3 that I've had have been very polite and personable. The space is beautiful! They have a Super cool optical mural that looks hand painted around the pedicure spots (which there are plenty of) and the nail bar areas are not too crowded. As far as covid precautions- they have a form and leave space between chairs. I must say it's amazing how clean it is/feels. They also have a GREAT selection of colors! All the most current OPI polished were there in Dip, Gel, and creme. A little more pricey than some of the other neighborhood options, but if you want a high quality service in a super clean space, this is a good option. read more

I've been here multiple times. Last Friday I did a basic dip manicure. 55 seems high for this. Two days later my nail chipped. I called to go in since they are always busy and the girl was mad she has to fix someone else's work. They acted like they didn't know who did my nail. I said they could look it up because I had an appointment. She made my nail look worse and threw gel on it. (Not dip) not even 24 hours later, another nail chipped! I called and made an appointment. When I went in they literally make me feel terrible that I came back. How is it my fault that my dip hadn't even lasted a week!? Also the way they made me feel was even worse. This place has a nice vibe with nice people, and seems to have lots of loyal clientele. I wanted to write in with a review for Dazzle Dry specifically (DD dries in five minutes and removes like normal polish...so it's the best of both words of gel and regular without the downsides of either). I'm a huge fan of Dazzle Dry when done right. I often do it at home and I've learned the somewhat intricate method for applying it, but I do like to have someone else do it for me every few month or twoo. This nail salon, or at least my very nice technician, didn't seem to have gotten any instruction or training in Dazzle Dry. She just did it like normal nail polish, which is disappointing. One example among several: DD base coat requires two coats, not just one. Not to be overly pedantic but with this system it's so important. When I get DD done at MiniLuxe, it's fantastically, carefully done and last 3 weeks; I'm only a few days in with my one from Southie Nail Bar and it's already looking weird. I would encourage this salon to fully train its techs in Dazzle Dry if they want to keep investing in/upcharging for the system. read more

So I went in (with an appointment) for a pedicure and liquid gel full set. I think overall it was just too busy of a day (weekend) and got the feeling that you needed to be a regular. Regulars seemed to be getting fabulous service and beautiful nails. I think the pedicure was average. I had trouble communicating and so ended up with pretty awful looking acrylic nails (lumpy and poorly shaped). Now not sure where to go to get them fixed or may have to soak them off and grow them out to see if I can try somewhere else. Upside, they take a 5% discount off if you pay cash. I had two different experiences here. The first time, I had a super nice nail tech Lori who did a great job on my nails. I loved the vibe of the place and enjoyed the music they played. The second time, I had Danny do my nails- or everything but the color. He flew through the removal of my old color, cutting, shaping, filing, etc.- and in a bad way. There's efficiency, then there's rushing to just get through the service and onto the next. I felt like I was inconveniencing him by being there. Then, I was told to wash my hands, with no other context or communication, and when I returned, someone was sitting in my seat and I was told the woman next to him would do my color. Fine, but a little communication of that beforehand would have gone a long way. They had moved my phone and coffee over, but my purse was on the hook below the counter, because I didn't expect anyone else to be in my seat when I returned. I went to grab it to move it to my new seat, and Danny and the girl who did my color both yelled at me that she would be doing my color, and I stated I was just getting my purse. I was also charged $15 for pretty sloppy, simple nail art on one nail per hand. Not sure how that math works out. When I went to pay, I was prompted to tip Danny and Danny only over Venmo. Not sure how they divide the tips up but it felt unfair that all my tip was going to Danny and not the other woman who did my color and nail art. It really just felt like they were trying to get me out of there as quickly as possible and didn't value my money or experience as much because I wasn't a regular. Won't be coming back. read more

Horrible from beginning to end! My daughter lives in Southie and took me for my birthday to get a gel mani and Dip pedicure. They started with a pedi and while I was soaking she proceeded to drill the old dip off my nails after she had soaked them in acetone. She drilled the old dip off directly over my freshly poured water in the pedi basin. the whole basin was full of dip dust and fragments of nail. 2 days after visiting, I already had several cracks in my nails and had to super glue them. I live over an hour away so returning for a redo was out of the question. I sent them an email asking for a refund on my mani including pics of all of the cracks and was told they wont refund. Several emails back and forth of them saying they would redo and me telling them I live too far to return and I wanted a refund were IGNORED. This was a gift for my birthday and was a horrible experience. Oh and did I mention, the vulgar rap music blasting throughout the salon the whole time? I am a younger mom and even I was offended. Unless you are planning on getting acrylics, don't bother coming here. I went in for a regular polish manicure and left with my nails still rough around the edges. I would have been better off doing them myself. For my pedicure, before she started exfoliating my legs, I asked her to skip this step because my shins were sunburned. She ignored me and began exfoliating my legs anyway. My skin is now red, blotchy, and raw. The shop itself is filthy and covered in nail clippings and acrylic dust. I'm sorry to say this is the worst manicure I've ever received in my life.
