    On the final day for Pastel, my friend ordered something from here so I clicked the item and read its description. Well, with this review, you know what happened. Besides helping order other dessert items for my friend previously, I recently noticed that they have a stand at the Saturday Ferry Farmers Market in the back lot area near the La Cocina space and Primavera stand. I vaguely remember trying some of their foods but honestly don't recall what. On one of my last Pastel orders, I joined my friend in trying the pineapple tartlets (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=hmR641k3zfgtiMGH6qM3_A&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). I ate one without reading the box and thought it was okay. Only after giving some to the rest of the family did I notice the instructions on the label to heat them in the oven for 1-2 minutes. Let's just say, no wonder there are instructions. I enjoyed them a lot more. I will stop by their stand (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=zdSEZTaNxmbx_Ywfuoq2wg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) this weekend and take a gander at their menu of offerings. Who knows, maybe I'll be taking something home this time.

    This review is only for the farmers market booth. Applause for whoever designed and drew the pictures for their banner because that was the first thing that caught my eye at the Farmers Market. Decided to get the sampler box as I was having choice paralysis on what to get. Figured I couldn't be wrong in trying a little bit of everything. Pandan Coconut Mochi Layer: definitely tasted two distinct flavors (pandan and coconut) and you wouldn't think it would work since coconut can be pretty overwhelming of a flavor and pandan is kind of subtle but this worked. Texture had a slight chew but definitely on the softer side of mochi. Sweet Rice Pandan Custard: love the smoothness of the custard and the flavors were really subtle. Wasn't too sweet. 1000 Layer Cake: visually this was really appealing however eating it I wasn't quite sure what I was tasting. It's lightly sweet and I feel like I need a larger slice to figure out the flavors. Next time. Pandan Chiffon Cake: reminded me of angel food cake. It wasn't as green as I expected and similar to the other items, this wasn't as sweet. Texture is super fluffy, light, and crumbly. Pineapple Tartlets: surprisingly this was the sweetest out of all the other desserts. Really forward pineapple flavor (probably because it's a jam) and the texture of the pastry shell is crumbly and buttery. Really enjoyed trying all the different items. I think going back I would definitely try the mochi cake with cranberry (as I didn't get to this time around) and get more of the mochi layer and pandan custard.

    I came across NUSA through Pastel (food delivery service in the Bay Area). I had not yet had Indonesian desserts before, so I took this opportunity to try it by adding some NUSA desserts to my order. First of all, the rainbow mochi layer cake was STUNNING. Pictures don't do it justice. I admired its beauty for quite some time before I could bear to take a bite. The taste of it was honestly just okay, it was coconut-y but it had a slight twist to the taste that I wasn't totally a fan of, but that's okay because it was so gorgeous that I didn't mind. Now for the goodies in the sampler box! My favorite items were the sweet rice pandan custard, pineapple tartlets, 1000 layer cake, and pandan chiffon cake. I enjoyed the variety in textures. For the sweet rice pandan custard specifically, I really loved its subtle sweetness. Overall, I was a happy customer! Prices are affordable for some high quality treats and they were packaged carefully. Love supporting a local business with a mission to introduce Indonesian food to the Bay Area!

    If you're nostalgic for the Asian tastes of your childhood, want to try something new, or are just plain tired of the mass produced selection at the Ranch 99-type grocery stores, stop by this Indonesian snack booth at the Saturday Ferry Building Farmers' Market in the city, a startup that is part of the La Cocina food business incubator program. They've got a decently sized (and fairly priced) menu of Indonesian small bites both savory and sweet (think sweet rice with chicken roll, pandan cake, layer cake, mochi cake). They were patient in answering customer questions and giving descriptions of what each product was like. It was hard to choose, but I got the mochi squares, 1000 layer cake, and the shrimp chips. All were excellent. The layer cake is best described as what would happen if a Japanese castella cake and a Russian honey layer cake got together and had a baby (have eaten both of these in the respective countries). The mochi cake tastes like a standard Hawaiian version with coconut notes and shavings on top. Shrimp chips - already a cut above most other versions that are readily available now because they actually contain real shrimp (what a concept!). Crunchy and reminiscent of when your mom would fry up a fresh batch of these pink, orange, and white (were there green ones too?) beauties in the home wok back in the day...a bargain for $3 a bag.

    a breath of fresh air and new cuisine of goodies to try :) imma give them a 4.5 if i could, but i finally had a chance to try nusa at the indonesian bazaar back in may for aapi heritage month and i love it ! i've always wanted to try them but they're mainly based at the farmers market near the ferry plaza, which is quite far for me. but alas !! I HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY and jUST TOOK IT. the owners are very humble and sweet. they are open to explaining everything and even took the time to get to know you as a customer ! so sweet :') prices are ok! it's on the slightly more pricer side with such few pieces but anything to support a local business. esp for a business and culture that is so underrepresented in sf. my favorite has to be the 1000 layer cake. it's sweet but not too sweet and you can taste the rich egg flavor and have a pillowy, fluffy texture. it would pair so perfectly with coffee or tea. i would say the mochi and custard are quite similar (obv cus they're both pandan) but the custard is slightly more superior with the sweet rice adding so much more to the flavor profile. the custard with the rice is eggy and rich. so together, it is a perfect dessert on its own. i say skip the mochi layer because the pandan flavor is very subtle and the only thing going for it is the pretty layering colors and texture. i cant wait to see them grow more because it would so lit if they had their own store or become even more accessible so i can support them some more !

    Tried the pandan coconut mochi layer. It was defiantly a more gelatinous texture with the addition of tapioca flour that I'm not used to. Although the flavor was great and we really enjoyed it otherwise. We will have to come back and try other items from them at the Ferry building farmers market on Saturday's.

    Layer cake. It's the same taste as I had in Indonesia. So good.

    This place is a hidden gem. The layer cake blew me away with just one bite. I'm definitely coming back for more.

    Super delish and authentic! But hella expensive. Worth it every so often. Highly recommend their desserts.

    Online ordering for pickup is a bit tricky, but absolutely worth it -- the pandan custard and chiffon cake are absolutely wonderful!

We ordered the Mango Bingsoo on our first visit, and when it arrived, we were surprised by how small the portion was. The guy next to us even looked over and said, "Whatever that is, I'm getting that next time." He shouldn't have. The Bingsoo looked great but was bland, and the "snow" was more chunky ice than soft shave. The Thai Tea Roti was also not what I expected. It came with Thai tea ice cream and sauce alongside a roti that was fried to a crunch. Interesting idea, just not the best execution. The sauce and ice cream needed a stronger Thai tea flavor to balance the crispy roti, and the flavors never quite came together. Overall, A Buttercup nails the aesthetics but misses the flavor. If you're here for the photos, you'll be happy. If you're here for the taste, you'll leave with a full camera roll and an unsatisfied sweet tooth.

We came for a factory tour, about an hour long. It was fascinating and educational to learn about the craft of chocolates from fruit to beans to the chocolate bar, and to get to chocolate taste along the way. Their work is inspiring-adding minimal ingredients to their chocolate bars so that the flavors of the cacao beans shine naturally from where they originate. After the tour, we tried the hojicha hot chocolate, the celebration cake, and the matcha cookie. For the hojicha hot chocolate, the tea flavor was subtle, but good chocolate. The celebration cake was what we expected-glad it wasn't overly sweet so that cocoa is more pronounced, but it also wasn't too rich; I felt the chocolate here in some sense lacked depth. The matcha cookie was my favorite-a cake texture matcha exterior encasing a denser brownie-like chocolate core - a delicious combo! Last thoughts to prep for the experience if you tour- 1.) Eat before you go on the tour-sampling chocolate means you do get caffeinated, and you'll likely purchase more chocolate (more caffeine!) after :) 2.) Included with the tour is a complimentary chocolate drink of choice at the end, in case you were pondering whether to buy the hot chocolate or not ;) 3.) Dandelion Chocolate products are pricey but quality. Paying the price feels like it's appreciation of their art. If you love chocolate, it's a wonderful place to visit at least once!

Service was really friendly and our 3 bowls were ready within a few minutes. Only one small bench inside and some outdoor seating.
