There was a cafe a couple doors away but their pastries didn't look as appealing. This place had giant slices of quiches, savory breakfasts, and mini Bundt cakes with interesting flavors. Service was quick for a Monday morning. I got the Chocolate Pistachio Cruffin. Mmmmmm! That cruffin was flaky and not too sweet. The center was decadent and crisp - just like the center of a Dubai chocolate bar. Berry Scone was good. Not too sweet. I like that it was a dry and crumbly with the right amount of glaze. Love Cafe Madeleine for their cakes. They are responsive on delivery for office orders and by now I have had a taste of every cake on their rotation! They have all been the 8"-10" cakes that can feed a large group of people if you slice them small enough. Of all the cakes, here are my favorites: 1. Triple Chocolate Mousse (the best!!!) 2. Stopped by Cafe Madeleine for a quick mid morning pastry for breakfast and I ended up getting a toasted strawberry danish and an oat latte. The strawberry danish was great and very flavorful with a soft nicely layered pastry shell. My oat latte was good as well! Was on the hunt for a lemon bar! Before I came I called to make sure they were in stock. The nice woman who answered said yes we have 4 left! When I arrived I got the second to last one. Good place & cute atmosphere. Lemon bars $3.50. Honest. I give the lemon bar a 4/10. It has 3 visible layers. First the crust, which is more bendy than crunchy, followed by the lemon curd which is separated into two layers. The lemon curd tastes pretty good, but it is pretty gelatinous / thick, so it separates quite a bit from the crust. Good vibes in this place and if I lived closer I would def give it another go. read more

This has been one of my favorite cafes since 2010. There used to be one near my work on California street. I used to get catering from them all the time and people loved the food. They had the best sandwiches (my favorite is the chicken + artichoke). They make the very best pastries. Too many favorites to list but they are all yummy. Cute place with friendly staff. I tried the Matcha cruffin, Matcha dome and the chocolate toffee truffle cake. The matcha cruffin had a generous amount of matcha cream filling and the croissant was well baked with a flaky top. The matcha dome had a tiramisu texture which it tasted good but overall the dessert didnt really stand out. The chocolate toffee truffle cake was rich and had a nice toffee crunch to it. I decided to try another sandwich place since I'm still on the lookout for my favorite sandwich place! I went here on Tuesday for a late lunch at 2pm and there wasn't much of a wait. I ordered the Turkey Sandwich since I just wanted something quick and easy to eat. The Turkey Sandwich I got wasn't toasted, so I wish they toasted it for me since I feel like it would've tasted better. I did really like the bread roll it was in and how they put a lot of turkey in my sandwich though! I'd recommend this place! The sandwich was very tasty even though mine was cold and not toasted. I love this place for the buratta salad. I always add chicken, and it's still a good deal at $3.50 extra. In the past, the salad was topped with pinenuts, but now it's replaced with hazelnuts. Not a downgrade in substitution since they really pack in those hazelnuts. The chicken was the biggest improvement; what used to be dry chunks have now transformed into moist strips. The spring mix salad comes with beets, truffle salt, buratta, and hazelnuts. It's a very large portion for $20. It should feed me for two meals, but I couldn't stop eating. Was looking around yelp for a bakery that had a sugar free cake for a diabetic friends birthday. Found a few places with outrageous prices but cafe madeleine came up so I gave them a call. Someone answered the phone and was so sweet and helpful. She informed me they had a sugar free chocolate truffle cake, 8" for $58! That seemed very reasonable to me. She asked me what message I wanted on there and scheduled me a Sunday morning pick up. We were off the phone in less than 5 minutes.. extremely helpful and efficient. I scheduled the Sunday morning pick up for 8am but was a bit confused on the pick up process and waited for a confirmation the cake was ready for pick up. I messaged them via yelp and they responded fairly quickly. The baker had called me shortly after and told me we could meet at 9 instead. I arrived, called the number on the door and was invited inside. They showed me the masterpiece and even separately included the message plaque as its sugar based. Bagged the cake up nicely and I was on the way. Great experience, will be back. read more

Forgot to take a picture when it was still whole and beautiful but the Tres Leches cake is one of the best I've tried so far in SF (I'm on a mission to try them all!). Might be too sweet for some but it was perfectly moist, flavorful, with the perfect texture. And for $50-55 per 8" cake, it's not as large of a hit on the wallet as others in the area. Sandwiches and salads are super tasty. Their dessert fridge looks a bit barren but they look like they would taste good. What prompted me to give them 3 stars is their not so smiley counter person. I think she's the manager there but super poker faced. She doesn't seem happy. I've gone at all times of the day too. But I guess it's contagious because after I paid for my food, I realized they tacked on a 5% SF Mandate tax, what the heck? For a sandwich place with only one location? Yeah, I'm straight on paying ghost price gouging fees. I'll stick with getting ripped off for concerts but not cafes. Damn Gina... Tried this place recently and highly recommend. Loved the bright tile in the kitchen and the cozy seating area to people watch. The pastries and cakes looked amazing. If I was in need of a special cake for an event/person I would go there if I lived in SF. I tried the Zoe's ham sandwich in a baguette as it reminded me of the ones I had in Paris. It was unique with both the fig and apple, loved it. Seriously, what is better than brie with fig jam? Yum. The pastries were so tempting I had to try a Marjolaine. Definitely not an option I see in the small town I live in. I think my eyes rolled back in my head - in a good way.
