Tonight my friend and I went for dinner and my friend ordered a bacon cheeseburger...she ended up finding a hair in it...we immediately let the waitress know...she acknowledged that she saw it and removed the plate and came back with a new cheeseburger and fries...as we were eating we then noticed on a small plate next to us with bbq sauce placed on it there was yet ANOTHER hair...me moved the napkin that was near the plate and then the small hair was gone...at this point we asked for the manager to come over. The manager came over and we explained what happened and not one time did she apologize and proceeded to tell us that she didn't see a hair and that they made her a new plate so that should be enough...she then mentioned that the waitress didn't see it either (which she had said she did) so we called the waitress over and she told the manager she didn't see it...when the manager walked away she told us, "I did see it, but you don't know what I go through here." Our goal was to get the burger taken off the bill because we had now found two pieces of hair...obviously this establishment doesn't treat their staff well and definitely doesn't treat unhappy customers well...I usually frequent this diner, but I will now be going to the Allwood Diner in Clifton. This manager was rude and obviously doesn't care about customer retention and finding two pieces of hair in one sitting is a bit much. read more

They don't deserve the 1 star but I had to click on 1. My husband picked up a container of matzo ball soup to go. Paid almost $7. I removed the 2 softball sized balls and there was less than 1/2 a container of soup. I decided to call the diner. Surely there was a mistake. I asked for the manager and the man with a very thick accent told me he was the manager. I told him about the soup and he asked me if I requested the balls in a separate container. I said no. He said, well, that's the way we do it. I explained that I felt I should get a full container of soup since that's what I paid for. After literally arguing with me for 5 more minutes he told me to go to Dunkin Donuts and then hung up on me. Besides the fact that the soup was awful, the "manager" HUNG up on a customer. I expected him to say, I'm so sorry, please come back and I'll give you another. Never saw that coming. So I guess the bland, vapid food is not the only reason I'll never go back there again. I used to work at nutley diner and my mom worked there 3 to 4 years before me and I am still apart of the nutley community I currently work at A&S pork store and have and currently work at American bistro in nutley I have been there for almost 7 years now that is almost 10 years as a part of the nutley community and though I haven't liked in nutley for the past 5 years still bust my ass and live this town and got in a time of need and on Christmas morning non the less got kicked out yelled at and dispected and with out a chance kicked out back in to the rain/snow mix like a piece of shit well sorry I am not I busted my ass and to most I'm thee hardest worker around I haven't worked less then 6 days a week since I started work in this town. Yes I did have a open bottle in my bag with my fingers stuck in it for almost a mile that I walked to the diner tryed to explain that once I sat and didn't have to worry about every step the bottle spilling all over my clothes and technically that is about 200 to 300 dollars worth of tech I can cover and or they can take the bottle until I leave but no in got yelled at and threatened like I was a crazy person or some kinda of terrorist ok r piece of shit my a Muslim who asked me all the time to talk to my mom about going back to work there. Out of the blue, me and my girlfriend decided to try this place when walking about Franklin St. While the prices on the menu were impressive, the service and the food were not. The old saying goes "You get what you pay for". The waiter came to our table exactly twice, once to take the order and once to give us our bill. There was a bus boy that brought the food. I was stuck without a glass of water for about a half hour with our waiter nowhere to be found. I wanted to try something "new" and I ordered a philly cheese steak wrap. When I got my food, I thought maybe I shouldn't have tried something new since, I guess, I don't like philly cheese steaks by the taste of it. But then I realized, this is some crappy food, and philly cheese steaks are supposed to be delicious. The girlfriend ordered some type of salad and you can't really mess that up. But I don't think I'll be coming back here, unless in a pinch. read more

Your average diner with a wide selection. Came here for breakfast with my husband. We were greeted & seated fairly quickly. The server was a bit slow and didn't know the menu well, asked me what type of toast I would like in case my selection brought it (it didn't). My husband ordered an omelette which was a good sized portion. I opted for the buttermilk pancakes with eggs. Loved the sausage that came with it but the pancakes tasted like the boxed type that you buy from the supermarket. Would give this another try since its location is so convenient but definitely staying away from the pancakes. read more

Well I will keep short. I'm a Nutley local, and I want to support the local business. Therefore, went there the other day and I ordered the risotto and fish and chips. Didnt like both. The fish was not ok, not seasoned at all. And the waiter confirmed so. Is it frozen? I don't know, but fresh is not. I really wish they changed that. And the risotto, well, I'm a risotto eater, and that was a chicken with rice and so many vegetables, with a sauce that was good on the salt but too much butter. Felt heavy later. I hope the business managers read this and change it, because I will still be going to the Diner. We always like the breakfast though... read more

DO NOT EAT HERE! Despite having had a few prior ok visits, this one visit will have me wanting to report the diner to the Health Department. Not only did they take 20 minutes to serve me the wrong drink, but the tomatoes in my salad were rotten. Hey, that can happen in any establishment, but what ruined my evening was that despite the bad service and the literally "bad" food, they refused to comp me on anything. When I told them I didn't want a free dessert as compensation but asked them to do what they thought was fair, they denied the tomatoes were bad and told me that I should have returned the drink since it was made incorrectly. A man who appeared to be the manager's son was hostile, defensive, and insulting rather than customer-friendly. The area near the kitchen and restrooms was dirty. The food I had was rotten. Unprofessional - Stay away! I just came back from there. My young boy wanted mozzarella sticks. The waitress suggested the kids meal and we agreed. Although the sticks were pretty good, there were only 4 of them. My son finished them and would have liked 2 more. So I asked the waitress if she could do something. We would have taken it instad of the ice cream that comes with the kids meal, or paid a dollar or two extra or whatever. He didn't want 4 more, so I wasn't going to place another order. Instead of seeing what the customer wants and at least trying to work something out, which would have worked for all of us, she said there was nothing she could do. I made it clear I wasn't happy and my son reluctantly took the ice cream. When we paid at the register not only did the cashier not ask me how everything was, she acted liked she was doing me a favor giving me the change. I've been eating in diners for quite a long time. Went for breakfast about 1 month ago. Spouse & I have been here before, but this was horrible. Ordered omelet NO home fries as they have onions & can't eat onions (told waitress that). Asked for boxes early & halved my omelet to take home. When cutting last quarter of omelet on plate, found black hair (not mine) AND potato piece with onion IN omelet! Called waitress & showed her & she said would get manager. Manager walked past our table without stopping. I took other half of omelet out of to-go container & put back on plate (was disgusted at that point). Went up to pay & manager said he didn't stop because I had kept the other half of omelet!!! Told him I took it out & he could see our booth and that it was back on the plate. Manager very discourteous & someone else in white shirt behind counter told him to just take it off bill. This is my second time at this diner. I wasn't impressed the first time. Thought I give it another chance. The place is clean and had a nice brightly lit atmosphere. The staff is accommodating and friendly. I had the smoke house burger and a spinach soup. The soup had the consistency of glue even though the taste was edible. The burger came on a bun so thick you have to open your jaws wide as sharks to bite into it. I ended up using a steak knife to cut it up which defeats the purpose of eating burgers. Why would anyone go and ruin a well intention burger like that is beyond me. The sauce was good even though they forgot it initially. It had fried onions in it but it was sort of just there, flat not crunchy. This place needs to step up the food a notch to catch up with it's nice decor. It's pretty inexcusable that it's called the "nutley" diner - representing the town but the food is so mediocre. read more
