Asking around everyone has a handyman for this service, but browsing around on Yelp, we came to NW Moss Removal. They can be a little slow to respond to the email or their website inquiry, but Connie will get back to you. They book out ahead of time. We have a 1,700SF rambler with 3-tab shingles (asphalt) and it ran us $500+WSST. This covers manual scrubs, moss removal, blow dry along with gutter clean out and re-tighten/align gutters to ensure proper sloppage. Afterwards they treated the roof with zinc powder to prevent future growth. The crews were on time, courteous (they know on the door to let you know they are onsite rather than show up and just climb on with a heads up), clean (they clean up after themselves and wash down the mess and walk way). Needed to find someone to clean our roof asap and they delivered! I appreciated the prompt feedback, clear communication about the type of work to be completed, and the price was reasonable. Well, I had to go and give 'em that last star because they followed up. They took the time to contact me and address my concerns. As soon as the weather permitted, they sent someone out, actually the same team that did the roof originally, to check and clean the gutters and though by this time most of the stuff on my garbages and H2O barrels have been washed away by rain and the gutter crap on the lawn had started to decomp, they went ahead and took care of those too. I just had NW Moss Removal do my roof in Lake Stevens. They showed up when they said they would, and did the work they agreed to do in a timely fashion. The before and after pictures were an extra bonus, especially since it is a rental house and I am not there to see the work. My only negative (I'd give them 4 1/2 stars if I could) was the inability to use a credit card to pay for the work. We had been cleaning our own roof of moss for the past few years, and we really needed to transition to professional cleaning. Our home has many roof angles, and is surrounded by tall trees, and so we emailed three different companies we found highly rated on Yelp. NW Moss removal sent me a quote by email within two days! The other companies didn't respond for 2-3 weeks. Also, the quote from NW Moss removal was the most competitive and included all work to be done, including preventative moss treatment and clean up. On the day of service, two workers showed up right on time, and they worked for hours. My roof looks wonderful--so much better than what we could do on our own! They emailed us multiple pictures of the work completed. What's more, they found an area of my roof that had water damage around a skylight. They were very careful to clean gently with longer brushes, to apply the treatment, and to not walk on this soft spot. We had no idea there was a problem, and were able to get a roofer out who will be repairing that spot. We are very grateful to the company for identifying this before we had a leaky roof. My landlord decided to go with a different company than NW Moss Removal, Fields Roof Service. To make a comparison, I wanted to note the differences in experience. First, Fields did not knock on the door and introduce themselves, as NW did. Fields showed up at 8:30 am and are still here at 1:30 pm, unlike NW that was fast and efficient. The workers are incredibly loud and stomping, unlike NW Moss that tried to keep the volume down. The worker I greeted, was unfriendly and did not want to talk to me. Unlike NW Moss, who whose workers were friendly and kind. Fields blocked the doorway with all of their equipment, making it difficult to exit the house and for mail. Unlike NW Moss, who cleaned up several areas other than the roof. At 1:30 pm, think I will be subject to the mediocre services of Fields for the rest of the afternoon. They have no interest in interacting with me whatsoever. My friend was using the restroom and looked up to the skylight, to see a worker staring down at her from the roof. I'm not quite sure with this company. They seem inconsistent. Perhaps it's the guys that are employed, if they send different guys to each job vs. the same guys. I selected NW Moss Removal after a failed appointment (Sound Window and Gutter Cleaning) and another company that was blatantly overpriced (NW Window Washing). Their price seemed reasonable - just under $500 - which included a roof anchor that apparently was never installed on my house. I've only been here 3 months and I'm trying to get it into shape all around, and the unsightly moss (not a lot, but enough to annoy me) and tree debris was a priority. I give them three stars because (A) they were flexible with their payment offering, (B) they DID get rid of the moss and lay down the treatment, and (C) they weren't trying to rip me off with the anchor like Sound Window and Gutter was. Unfortunately, I had to dock them two stars for the following reasons; they may not be a big deal to you. First, they didn't fully clean other debris, such as tree needles and whatnot. They DID clean most of it, but if you say you'll "clean" the roof, I expect to see none of it, and I was disappointed. They also didn't fully clean regular dirt from the roof valleys (though they sent the guys back out to do it, it still wasn't done satisfactorily), and didn't clean bird droppings. They don't specifically promise to clean all of these things thoroughly, but why wouldn't you want to impress your customer by doing an excellent job, rather than an OK job? Second, they didn't fully clean the gutters (as Ray also noted). In fact I can't really tell that they actually did any cleaning in the gutters besides basic scooping and wiping the exterior. They certainly didn't do a power spray to get all of the gunk out or anything. Sound Window and Gutter had done some basic scooping, and I recall clearly what they left it like, and near as I can tell, NW Moss Removal didn't do anything above and beyond that service. Last, as noted in other reviews, they left some of the moss and debris on the ground. Fortunately the majority of the debris in the lawn was cleaned up by NW Landscaping as part of a thatching and overseed service, but there are still bits of moss down in the plants near the door. It's like they brushed the moss down all over the place without paying attention to where it landed or without brushing it to the same common place (such as the driveway) so they could easily clean it up. I was at work so I didn't get a chance to see them do the work. I felt that they could have done a better job than they did. Do they remove moss? Yes. Problem is that's all they did well, and for the price, you do expect better. UPDATE: and Kenneth is fibbing. One star off for lying. I asked Connie to have them send pictures; never sent. I called them out; they emailed photos of the WRONG roof. I called them out, they sent the right photos. When I got home, I emailed MY photos of the uncleaned areas in the back, they came back out and cleaned them. There was no meeting nor any plan to meet. Better talk to Connie and get the real story, Ken. Second, the check was 10 days out, not a month. I asked to delay the work due to a money transfer problem with Chase; on 5/31, Connie offered to accept the check post dated to 6/13 instead of delaying. When I called NWMR, The woman I spoke to on the phone explained the procedures they use to kill moss and clean roofs very thoroughly and their price was really fair in comparison to other companies in the area. This review is a bit tardy, but wanted to make sure to leave our comments. We received a quote in December and they were able to make it out in mid-January. We had our roof replaced about nine years ago and had not had it cleaned since the install, so the roof had become a multi-year experiment in moss accumulation - a veritable jungle of moss tribbles. NW Moss Removal does not use pressure washing or chemicals - instead they use brushes applied with generous amounts of elbow grease. So our roof was definitely a challenge - a more involved job than they typically do. Still, they insisted on honoring their original quote. They did a beautiful job. The roof now looks as good as it did when it was new, and maybe better. They also cleaned up nicely and got rid of all those damn tribbles (maybe they transported them to a Klingon ship). They advised getting the roof cleaned about every 2 years, so they can expect a call from us in 2023. We would definitely recommend them! read more
