After not wearing a weave for well over a year because nowhere seemed to get it looking natural and laying flat (The Diana Ross look doesn't look good on me!) and getting a bad tree braid weave from an African place in Brooklyn in December (I showed the braider a picture of exactly what I wanted with the hair laying flat against my head and able to be put into a ponytail, she said she could do it and after 5 hours I looked like Diana Ross and couldn't put it in a ponytail), I started my search for someone to do a proper weave. After looking at several sites, some priced as high as $600(!), I found NYC Weave Studio. I'm in love!!! The website is fabulous and tells you everything you need to know about pricing and the type of hair to purchase. I couldn't believe that I could get a great weave for $150 in 2 hours -- sounded too good to be true but guess what? It is 100% true!!! I requested an appointment via text for this week and Fashion (the owner/weave master) responded within 24 hours -- my appointment was booked! It was that easy!! I purchased Echelon hair (black, loose wavy) at the Echelon vendor which isn't far from NYC Weave Studio because I wanted to see and feel the hair first hand (you can purchase online if you prefer). As described in the video on NYC Weave Studio's website, I came with my hair already washed and grease/product free! Watch the videos!!! It's the best prep to make sure you're in and out in no time. I had a a 4pm appointment but she texted me that I could come earlier so I arrived at 3:35pm (I was already in the neighborhood buying the hair) and she took me immediately. I love that there wasn't a crowd in the salon, just Fashion and me -- that's the way she books her appointments. She braided so quickly and without pulling my hair, I started to doze off! She was done braiding, netting, sewing in the weave, cutting and curling it by 5:20pm!!! I kid you not!!! She listened to what I wanted and did exactly that. It looks AMAZING!! My hair was styled to perfection on 7/6/13. It's exactly what I wanted. Correction, it's even better! I arrived about 20 min early to my appointment and Fashion greeted me the minute that I walked in and got to work on my hair. She began with a "pre-install consultation" if you will. She asked for pictures of the style that I wanted, what type of hair I had, how I wanted my natural hair left out, etc. Basically she probed until she got all of the details of EXACTLY how I wanted my hair to look in the end. If I was vague, she asked more questions to confirm. Throughout my install we chatted here and there. I didn't feel pressured to talk to her because the environment was comfy but I enjoyed our convo regardless. The TV & iPod were on so I'm sure if you are not the "chatty type" you won't feel uncomfortable. Oh and she made sure I was not hot and had the AC going. Yes to a salon that doesn't feel gross and stuffy. My hair was neatly braided up in what seemed like minutes and I didn't feel a thing. I'm not tender headed but I've had my share of stylists who braid my hair like they are working with a mannequin head and this was far from that. Once my weave "net" was secured and Fashion began my sew in she briefly let me know what her technique would be for the sew in and answered any questions that I had along the way. She made product suggestions for maintaining my desired style and sewed my weave in without me feeling any discomfort. Wand curls were added without her missing a single strand. Upon completion, Fashion tripled checked to make sure that all of my leave out laid flat and all curls were in check. My weave was not bumpy so the style flowed seamlessly. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at NYC Weave Studio. It was a very easy commute to and from the salon. I was comfortable throughout my install. Most importantly my hair looks incredible and it was done in couple of hours. Compliments are pouring in and I feel like a million bucks. Although Fashion is extremely fast and her weaves do look nice, I find her policies to be extremely onerous for the quality of the weave she produces. The fact that you have to text her in the middle of the night a month in advance to secure a time slot is absurd (I'm sorry I am a grown woman, with a grown women's job and need to sleep). And although I was willing to overlook that, the fact that she won't allow you to book with her if you have an appointment the month before AND if you are more 15 minutes late she charges you an additional (ridiculous) fee and doesn't accept credit cards is just completely inconvenient (given most of us do live in the city and there are train delays and traffic, etc.). PLUS, she won't blow dry your hair straight without charging you and being annoyed so you naturals that don't want heat don't even bother. But all of that is still fine, the reason I give her one star is because I find her to be somewhat rude on top of all the hoops you must jump through to make an appointment. I was regrettably 15 minutes late to my appointment today and saw her walking down the street to go to UPS, when I caught her rather than saying "Hey girl I didn't think you were coming, I'm glad we ran into each other" She looks at me disgusted and annoyed and says "Ugh, Why are you so late?" I'm sorry but your policy clearly provides for tardiness and don't you think I might be annoyed I now have to pay you extra money because of the MTA after taking time off time from my job to make this appointment? So I was going to arrive at your salon to find no one there despite you clearly providing in your policies for tardiness? I understand I was late but her "customer service" is in my opinion atrocious when I am about to spend 300 dollars of my hard earned money for your services. There are many other very talented weavoligists in NYC and I am happy to provide you all with referrals! In fact, I called one on my way home and they squeezed me in that same night. (never mind the last two times I went to Fashion I had someone else redo it the next day... but that's a whole 'nother story). This was the BEST experience I have had when getting a weave. Since it was my first time coming, I did a Skype consultation with Fashion. She was very personable and knowledgable about the weaving process as well as taking care of your own hair. I got to the salon 15 minutes early and was able to get started right away! I have been coming to Fashion for over a year...From when she had her salon in White Plains, up until she moved to her new salon in midtown. I initially went to her based upon the recommendation of a friend. I am so happy that I went to her b/c she's a keeper, in terms of excellent stylists. I absolutely love her! She's professional (always on time!!), friendly/pleasant, and an excellent weavologist. I used to spend my time going to Harlem to have my weaves installed and felt frustrated and disgusted b/c many of the women, although they did weave/braid my hair for cheap, were irritating to deal with. They were often always late for the appointment times (on average 30min-1hr). They spoke very little English, and as a result it was difficulty to communicate with them. Additionally, most of their braiding shops were filthy! Fashion gets 5+ stars from me. She listens to me and I always feel completely safe in her care. And my hair ALWAYS looks bangin'!!! Look at her website and see that her work speaks for itself!! I highly recommend her!! Just a side note to everyone: Fashion is currently a one woman show and she does all of the appointments herself and weaves everyone's hair herself. It's just her alone. So as you can imagine, she's in high demand and books up quickly (her appt times are 10am-12pm; 12pm-2pm; 2pm-4pm; 4pm-6pm). I went for a full head weave. Ok, it's 2015 who still braids in a beehive style? The braid technique is important as it determines how your weave will fall/lay. On top of which she braided my hair loose - another no no, especially if you plan to keep your hair in more than a month. Also. She started the braid at least 2 inches from my hairline and now it looks like a wig as it is so far back on my head. She didn't think it was necessary to install my three bundles of Indique hair which I found odd since her site recommend three bundles for average head. Side note: She is full of herself! read more

Fashion is absolutely brilliant! She did such a perfect job on the weave install and shes full of such useful information regarding upkeep and shes got extensive hair knowledge! After seeing all of her incredible pictures on her Instagram page I was beyond excited to finally have my appointment with her! Shes knows exactly what shes doing and no appointment with her takes longer than 2 hours! I couldn't believe how fast and painless she braided my hair (my hair is very thick and the hair strands are coarse). This is the tidiest most natural looking weave install I've had done. Fashion was able to do exactly what I wanted and in record time. The salon is so beautifully decorated and she has a nice TV to watch while shes working on your hair. She's also such a pleasure to talk to and chatting with her made the experience so much easier, Fashion had a little bit of extra time so she was able to completely fix my matting (I had a lot of matting in my hair due to my prior install done at a different salon) and combing out tangles is never fun but she made it as easy for me as she could. Anyone who would like a weave NEEDS to book an appointment with Fashion because i really don't see how you can get a better service than the one i received from her! YES, SHES THAT GOOD. And her price is right on point! I know a lot of people somehow want good service for cheap pay but it just doesn't work that way you guys, you get what you pay for especially where hair is concerned, and her price is excellent as far as I'm concerned because your going to walk out of her salon looking like a movie star. (I'll let you in on a little secret, i paid the same price for the install i received last October in Brooklyn which was bulky from the moment it was applied and just got bulkier over time and it made my head look about 3 times larger because the braids pattern was totally off and the tracks were sown in sloppily so i paid $175 for that and to top it all off I was in that hair salon for over 7 hours & you cant forget how matted it left my hair while removing, which has never happened to me before) So all of that trouble when I could have just came to Fashion! Fashionn is a weave professional! My appointment was scheduled for 2pm and she greeted me promptly at 1:59pm (after just finishing up a previous client). I normally bring lots of reading material when booking hair appointments because a 2pm appointment for a weave can easily turn into a 4pm appointment, which is a huge waste of time. So let me just say I was completely shocked when my appointment started on time. Prior to me booking my appointment, I asked the duration of the style I wanted. I was quoted 2hrs but thought it was complete bs. In all my days of weave wearing, no style ever took 2hrs or less. At 4pm (which I was unaware of the time because of our reality tv discussion) she said okay,"You're all done," I was completely blown away. It's now been two weeks and 1 wash later and my hair is amazing. Fashionn does not braid tight and makes sure your are comfortable through the braiding process. She is about 30miles from me but the tolls and gas are worth a great hairdo that is completed within two hours. I'm sold!!! read more

I was running late for my appt and I kept her in the loop on my whereabouts but right before I got to her (I was only a block away ) she calls me to tell me not to bother coming cuz I'm too late and that she has a client that is spending $700 on their hair and she can't be late for that. And with that she hung up on me which was totally unnecessary. The attitude that she gave really put me off. Not only that I am also a well paying client that spent almost $500 on the hair alone. Which was over processed with bleach. My lace closure that I purchased from her has broken off hair and so did my bundles. For what I payed for I should have received a quality product. read more

I visited my favorite Salon yesterday and had my installl done. Let me back track. I've been going to Fashion on and off over the past 5 years. I followed her from White Plains (in two locations) to the NYC. My reason for not staying with her on a consistent basis was that I wanted to save a few $$ so I tried other stylist, who just couldn't get it ALL right. I found myself having to go back in two weeks because strings were loose, and let me tell you about the closure piece anytime someone starts to pull and stretch this piece across the front of your head you need to never go back to them. I went to this salon because she promoted herself as experienced, professional and affordably priced. Fashion is a one-style-fits-all, assembly line one-trick-pony operation. I made the appointment following her ridiculous one month in advance first day of the month scheduling policy. I went there for a full weave with a closure piece. It took me over 2 hours to get there due to construction detours and the fact that I live outside of the city. I managed to get there 25 minutes early and we started right away since I was her first appointment of the day. She had a lace closure on her table and immediately tried to sell it to me stating she could not use mine, I reluctantly purchased it because I desperately needed my hair done for vacation and was running out of time. She began doing my hair, she styled it the way she wanted (she didn't ask me) with a side part that was unnatural - it was on my forehead not at my hairline. I mentioned this to her and she said it's for longevity (WTF) I only planned to have the weave in for 1 month. I never keep them in longer than that. As soon as I saw the finished result I was speechless and almost in panic mode, my hair looked like a bad wig and I didn't have time for someone else to fix it. She knew I was unhappy but instead of fixing it, like other stylists do, she told me I will get used to it and I could wear a hat if I wasn't comfortable. She said she was wearing a hat for months because she was getting used to not wearing a closure piece. Well, the difference is I'm a paying customer and can wear a hat for free! I stepped outside to get change and when I came back inside she already had her next client sitting in my chair. She was done with my hair, didn't care if I liked it or not and now it was time for the next client. I paid her and l never returned. I had to fix my hair at home the best way I could. I do NOT recommend her, she is cheap and fast but that's it. You will get styled with either a middle part or side part in and out of the salon in the 2 hour time frame she gives all her clients like it or not. My sisters have went to Fashion and she has always done a great job with there hair but due to me being someone who usually books appointments the week of I had to change up and adhere to her policies. Many may not agree with her policies but I stand behind each one. Like I said to Fashion as she was doing my hair, " when you're use to unprofessionalism and you finally get the opposite it's take you a while to abide by the rules and get it right." I love how you have your own time slot and you don't have to worry about her booking multiple clients the same time as you. As someone who has been wearing weaves for well over a decade I can definitely tell the difference between quality hair and bad hair. I've purchased hair from the best of the best, from Extensions Plus to Indique of which both, from my experience, have great product. So trust me when I say I know quality hair!!! What they advertise is what they sell!! The purchase I made from nycweavestudio is the total opposite of quality!! I've seen several images posted on Instagram and that was the reason I decided to patronize this company, that decision turned out to be a huge mistake!!! $200 is a lot to spend on tangled, matted, and lifeless hair. I work very hard for my money and don't take kindly to spending that amount of money all to not receive the product advertised!! If this hair was %100 human there's now way it would tangle like this. I have to literally pull my hair apart with my fingers. This is a daily routine while I'm at work, and continues when get home. Nor should my hair be flat and lifeless when I arrive to work after only a 30 minute commute!! Needless to say, this is totally unacceptable I am not happy at all with this purchase, and will not be purchasing again. In this economy no one can who is in business for themselves can afford to loose customers!!! You should be mindful of what vendors you're using to purchase your product from. Fashion is the best hairstylist/weaveologist in NYC. She is very professional, kind, and gives great hair and personal advice- goes beyond her cosmetologist duties. I have been her client since May 2013. I will not, absolutely not let anyone touch my installs besides her. I even went as far as getting kinky twists until her next available appointment. lol. FYI, the dry shampoo and loves drops (love the scent!) from her hair line are amazing. It's a joy to work with someone who is a genius at what she does and enjoys doing it. Recently, I've had a wig made and she exceeded my expectations. Her turnaround was sooner than I expected and Fashion impressed me with her cutting skills.
