I rarely leave negative reviews, especially for local businesses because I genuinely love supporting Uptown Whittier restaurants. But our Mother's Day experience at Nyx was honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We arrived excited to celebrate Mother's Day and were seated promptly... and then completely forgotten about. For 45 minutes, not a single employee came to our table. No server. No drink order. Not even water. Meanwhile, the tables around us were being greeted, served drinks, and even receiving their meals while we sat there wondering if anyone even knew we existed. What made it worse was that the restaurant did not even appear especially busy. If someone had simply acknowledged us and said, "We'll be with you shortly," we would have been understanding. Instead, we were ignored for nearly an hour without a single word. Eventually, we got up and walked out because it became painfully obvious nobody was ever coming to help us. A restaurant can survive a slow kitchen or a mistake with an order. What's harder to excuse is making customers feel invisible -- especially on Mother's Day, when families are trying to celebrate together. This was our first impression of Nyx, and unfortunately it will probably be our last. I would leave zero stars if Yelp allowed it. read more

Wow! From the aesthetics, hostess, service from David, and the food, 5 star experience. David was exceptional in making sure our experience was enjoyable and it was very enjoyable and memorable. The crab and ceviche top tier. Ribeye, Sea bass, broccolini, Mac and cheese, cauliflower mash, were all well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I'm prefacing my comments with the recognition that Nyx is still in its soft opening stage, so still working out the kinks. Dined here tonight to celebrate my future daughter-in-law's birthday. Noted that we were celebrating her birthday in my reservation via Open Table. But, they never acknowledged it. Overall experience was not good. Menu -- no iced or hot tea or coffee available. No bread available. Kitchen -- entrees were brought out one at a time, with at least 15 minutes between first and last. Two orders of Chilean Sea Bass were brought out about 10 mins apart. No explanation why the delay, and they appeared like entirely different entrees. Dessert -- carrot cake wasn't very good and looked homemade, and not in a good way. Texture was like previously frozen. Overall, pretty disappointed. Hope they get it together before they officially open. read more

'Medium' Lamb chops came out purple, completely raw - sent back, and came back AFTER friends were almost done eating. 'Medium' NY Steak was also served purple, way undercooked. No apology from manager, no deduction, no accommodation whatsoever. Both Sea Bass orders were cooked nicely. Waygu Burger was nice too. Btw, the Sides serve only 2 people. I expect to see the automatic 20% tip added to the total for the group of 6, I didn't like the second attempt of another tip at point of sale. After paying this $500+ tab, I'll not return due to two very undercooked meats, lack of management intervention, a clumsy bartender, and sneaky tip method. Fantastic cocktail program with Ford's Gin, hope they keep the Ford's flowing in those insanely cold martinis! The bartenders were very very nice, super fast and reminded me they've got the coldest martinis in town and happily swap out glassware when they notice your glass lost its frost! Also had the steak and it was cooked to perfection! This place is from the same folks who did sister restaurant Azabu and Chicken Koop and it shows! Came here on Mother's Day! We had an amazing waiter, food and drinks were good. The experience was almost ruined before we even stepped foot into the building because at 5pm my family was about to enter the restaurant and the lady bartender rushed ahead and walked in and let the door close behind her in our faces. I'm so big on customer service and just respecting others that I almost instantly complained, but didn't want to ruin Mother's Day. However, every single other employee treated us amazingly. I don't care if you are running late, you can hold a door for someone, because your poor time management impacts the company you work at because now I'm warning others of a rude lady bartender. I wanted to return for happy hour but feel weary about going if she will be at the bar. Still, I'm definitely open to going again because the lamb chops were on point! LOVE IT! Love it so much that already been there about 4 times. I was recently there too when they had their Frank Sinatra night, WHAT A NIGHT! Thank you for bringing a high scale restaurant closer to us, now we don't have to drive to West Hollywood or Santa Monica for a great food experience. Wow where do I begin.... I was first greeted with the two handsome sweethearts in the front, David and Hugo, you guys forsure put them in front for a reason! The cutie David walked me to the bar and I had the warmest welcome by the bartenders. Jen and Justin, made me the most amazing drinks EVER. I'd definitely come back for these two bartenders. They can make any drink youd like and had such great and fast service! There was also this sweetheart working super hard behind the bar, think his name was Andrew if I remember correctly but he was the most sweetest guy and took my food order right away, kept refilling my water before I could even finish!! Him and Justin literally gave me everythingggg I wanted! They created the most amazing ambiance at the bar and I think I might be in love with Jen... she was even sweeter! but Justin was so funny and made all my drinks with love, he's definitely a little comedian and made the bar atmosphere so great for me. Went with wife and friends on a saturday evening for a birthday dinner. The place was packed and loud at the dinning area by the bar. Nice decor but tight seating, small table. We had a few coctails. Drinks are well made. For appetisers we had the caviar bump with champagne and oysters. That was good. They were out of the filet so I ordered the porterhouse. The menu said $68. I thought it was ok for that price. It was 32 oz. I had an espresso martini for dessert. That was good. It was a nice evening. My wife paid for the dinner so i didnt see the bill until the next day. My wife and friends said they had a good time. The next day i saw the bill was over $800. Yikes. And they had charged me $168 for the porterhouse. I told her to complain because it was $68 on the menu. That porterhouse was not worth $168. She said the waitress did say that there was a misprint on the menu. I didnt hear that the waitress say that. I would not have ordered the steak if i knew it was that expensive. So i am disappointed. Its one and done for me. There other steak houses in the area i would rather go to (ie Dal Rae, Brea Chop House, Ruth's Chris, to name a few). Im leaving 3 stars for the good drinks and service. I had a fantastic celebratory dinner at the Nyx! To start, the decor is beautiful, upscale and classy without being over the top or pretentious. I went with my family on a Sunday to celebrate a graduation, which was made all the more special by the live singer who was performing old classics like Sinatra. He was so good that it took me 5 minutes to realize it was live! The menu has a lovely list of cocktails, but we went with wine. I'll definitely be back to the bar to try some cocktails and more appetizers! The service was friendly, albeit a little slow, but I can always forgive slow service for a new restaurant, especially if the servers are great otherwise, which they were! Everyone's meal was fantastic, the stand-outs were the bolognese pasta and the steak frites. I wish I took pictures, but we devoured everything too fast! Portion sizes were generous. For dessert, we had the bread pudding and cheesecake, both of which were fantastic. When the manager, Hugo, heard we were celebrating my boyfriend's graduation from medical school, he bought out champagne flutes for the whole party! He even showed us the secret speakeasy on the property, which is apparently open during weekends!
