Wonderful food and kind, attentive service. Unfortunately we did all get food poisoning it was ALMOST worth it...

One of my favorite Portuguese places for food. You'll get an abundance of food for a low price. Not a fancy place at all but I give it 5 stars for the food.

The pork chop special was special indeed

Real Portuguese home cooking! My coworkers and I ordered five meals and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. The kitchen is also very accommodating when ordering an off-menu dish as long as they have the ingredients on hand. Our meals were hot, fresh and prepared with quality ingredients and love. This will surely be a staple from now on.

The food was good! Generous portions. My Dad is from Sao Miguel and enjoys the menu and ordering in his native tongue. It's in a basement and it's not cute. Service was very slow. Only one server and runner. Could use some music? Table cloths? First time customer and I don't really want to go back.

Nothing fancy about this place but the food is good. Located in a residential neighborhood in the basement of an event hall, def worth driving to. The restaurant is located on the left hand side of the building with an adjoining parking lot. When you get in, you pretty much can seat yourself. I believe they have a bar area too. This visit, we started with the wings and ordered the grilled porkchop special and pork Alentejana for dinner. Although a bit on the small side, the wings were nice and crispy and came with a dipping hot sauce and pickled veggies that I didn't really care for. The porkchops simple but oh so delicious and came with a side of rice and fries (I didn't have to choose, I got them both!). The Alentejana is very tasty simmering in a wonderful savory sauce. There was more than enough to take home for leftovers. The service is friendly but a bit slow at times if there are several other customers. The few times we've come here, there were only 2 waitresses working the place. We like coming here b/c it's a no frills, belly filling joint that is very easy on your wallet. My special only ran me $13! No complaints here.

You always hear of places being "authentic" or "like home" which, to me, carry certain expectations. Phillips St Restaurant is a place that carries such a description and, until recently, was a place I hadn't even heard of. That combination pushed it up the list of places I needed to check out. The girlfriend and I visited on a whim and immediately upon entering you felt like you were walking into someone's spacious basement kitchen in the heart of Fall River or the Azores. Men and women were eating, talking and laughing loudly which if you've ever been to a Portuguese gathering, isn't an uncommon scene. The decor was dated, and what you'd expect from a place located in the basement. No one was around when we walked in. There's always that awkwardness of do I sit or do I wait, eventually we just sat. The service was certainly attentive going forward, and our drinks and order were taken quickly. We ordered the grilled chouriço, the bife Phillips St, and the carne de porco Alentejana. Basically the house steak which I ordered with Portuguese potatoes over French fries and marinated pork with roasted potatoes and little necks. The chouriço had some spice, nothing crazy, the flavorful kind and was well grilled. The steak dish was large and the sauce from the steak was very good. The egg yolk was soft and runny which is a must because you need to sop that up, right? The pork was well cooked as well and the sauce was equally tasty. I didn't care as much for the roasted potatoes with it. They were ok, just lacked crispness and freshness to me. All in all, I don't think they'll be pushing my mom into permanent retirement cooking wise, but the food really is very good, and if you like Portuguese cooking and haven't been, you really should. The prices are beyond reasonable and you won't leave hungry.

This is another place that I had forgotten about. We went here for a family birthday party and there were 21 of us so it was a place that would take reservations for a large group on a Friday night. The food is good but not fantastic. I think that it is not as flavorful as some other Portuguese restaurants in the area but it was well cooked. The service was excellent and the people were very kind. We have a number of children with us and they were very accommodating to that. We were surprised to have music with our dinner. There was a man who played guitar and sang and he was delightful. It was pretty busy there and yet the service was quick, especially for having such a large party. The littlenecks in garlic wine sauce were very good. And the sauce itself was so good for dipping with the Portuguese rolls. The steaks were good and they offered veggies instead of the typical rice or potatoes that you would get both of. It was nice and I would definitely return

Great local find. The restaurant has since been renovated since the previous review. Looks beautiful, bright & clean. Food is awesome. Had apps and drinks. Sauteed shrimp and calamari are great. The sauces are wonderful. Dip your bread and enjoy! Hours of Operation: Mon, Wed, Thu, 11:30am - 9pm Fri, Sat, 11:30am - 10pm Sun, noon - 6pm Please note - closed on Tuesdays.

Our reservation was for outside seating, and we appreciated the hostess's flexibility when we decided to change from outdoor to indoor seating. We were promptly seated at a table, and our waiter appeared shortly afterward. We ordered water, a beer, a Chardonnay, two glasses of red sangria, and a side glass of ice. One of the sangrias had to be returned because it was cloudy and didn't taste right. This was quickly corrected, and the replacement was good. The glass of ice never arrived, but we didn't bother following up on it. We shared two appetizers, the calamari and a Caesar salad. The salad was excellent. The calamari seemed like a much smaller portion than we've received in the past, and we also found it somewhat dry. Our entrées were the tuna, paella, eggplant Milanese, and half chicken. We enjoyed all of them with the exception of the chicken. We preferred the previous version of this dish and found the potatoes soft and mushy. Service was very good at the beginning of the meal, but as the evening progressed, the restaurant became very busy and our very nice server was handling a large number of tables. Perhaps Hemenway's was a little short-staffed on this busy Saturday evening. Overall we enjoyed our dinner and certainly intend to return. Tip: Complimentary Valet Parking is provided in the garage adjacent to the restaurant. Have the waiter validate your parking ticket for up to three hours of free parking.

First of all, the restaurant itself is small but very cute, cozy, and full of lovely New England-y Sea-Themed decor. We were promptly seated and had our order taken for our drinks & food - I had heard good things about this place, so I got a decent amount of food items, including: Lobster Roll - Arguably the best lobster roll I've ever had so far in my life. The brioche bun for it was soooo fluffy, soft, and a perfect complement to the big, juicy chunks of lobster that were seasoned and buttered JUST right. Also came with hefty and well-seasoned fries. New England Clam Chowder - Came with salted pork and potatoes in addition to the quahog clams. It was deliciously creamy and soothing to slurp on and the chunks within were all so tender and a great contrast. Clam Cakes - Added them to the Clam Chowder order for an extra $8. Big, hefty, doughy balls that were perfectly fried outside and ooey gooey within. Fish & Chips - Big, hefty fish that was juicy & delicious with a great crunch on the outside! Similarly came with the 'chips', or the hefty, well-seasoned fries that the lobster roll also came with. Oh yeah, pardon me, forgetting to mention the drinks! We ordered the Briny Martini and the Harbor House Punch! The Martini was great for a stronger drink and the Punch was a nice cocktail for anyone preferring something sweeter and fruitier. When it came to the food, service, and dining experience...it couldn't have been better! Everything was incredibly delicious and definitely worth ordering. This memorable experience then reached exceptional circumstances, however, as while we were in the middle of dining here and enjoying our delicious food, there was a shooting occurring just up the street at Brown University. I wish to commend the staff at Dune Brothers, who looked out for mine and their other patrons' safety and sheltering us in their restaurant as we all nervously waited for more information on what exactly was going on that evening. At their front patio, they had the World Cup game playing, but the back patio felt cozier so we opted for that. The inside though was a strong second since the lighting is very low, creating a cool and calm environment. Walking through the restaurant to get to our table made me realize that each table is unique, no two are decorated the same or have the same furniture. It was a hot day but the overhead mesh cover blocked out a lot of the sun. Our waitress made us feel very welcome from the start and told us about their drink and food specials. My friend ordered Guatemalan beer as well as a Spanish beer. For food, we ordered the plantain fries, octopus, calamari, and shrimp salad, and grilled lamp chops. The seafood salad came out first. According to the menu, it was going to be paired with cornbread. It looked like sourdough bread but had a far denser consistency. I was expecting the salad to have lots of shrimp to act as a filler but surprisingly, it was about 60% octopus, 25% calamari, 10% shrimp, and 5% onions. The seafood was very flavorful, tasted fresh, and cooked perfectly. The portion size was great for two. Next came the plantain fries, which I was least impressed with as it was essentially fried plantain chunks. I think it would have been better if they were cut into smaller pieces that can be easily dipped and consumed in one bite. The plantain was gently ripe, so just a little sweet and the dipping sauce was like a less sour sour cream. Lastly, the lamp chops came out and the presentation was wonderful. They were a bit skinnier and less tender than that I was expecting, but flavor wise they were good. We enjoyed the food, ambiance, and service here.
