At the end of our first night in Salem, we wanted to just sit, chill and have a drink before heading back to our Air BNB so we settled on O'Neills. The inside had all of the aesthetics of an Irish Pub. There were lots of tables for sitting and some where tucked away which made for more private dining - I also really enjoyed their Halloween decor. I ordered the Candy Corn Curse mocktail because I am an adult who loves Candy Corn. No food was ordered. Service was extremely slow - I think there was maybe 1 or 2 servers plus the bartender for the entire place. I know it was a Wednesday night, but it is also Salem in the beginning of October. They had live music and the musician's voice was nice and also distracted us for a bit while waiting for our drinks. Between the four of us ladies. We were trying to find somewhere close by and food that everyone would Like. O'Neil's was perfect for that. We arrived in Boston around 2 and were hungry for what is our normal lunch hour. It was roughly 5-8 min walk from our place of stay. you got to see the infamous bewitch statue along the way. ( they already had people waiting in a line) We were seated quickly and service was prompt. We got there prior to a live Irish band about to play. Prices range from $10-30 depending on the dish of choice I had their grilled cheese and tomato soup. Very cream and the sandwich wasn't bad. My friend shared her pretzel. That came with a beer cheese and honey mustard. Oh so good I paired my food with a cider and it was a pumpkin flavored one that's unfiltered. It was rather good. The weather was perfect so my family and I decided to sit outside and enjoy the people watching as we ate and drank. The server was attentive and did an amazing job making sure we had everything we needed. I was upset excited to see they had my favorite adult beverage, and my daughter was equally excited to see they had delicious mocktails! This was a fun experience for us, and would do it again. My daughter got the shepherds pie, I shared fish and chips with my partner, and all was great! The shepherds pie was very, very flavorful. I typically cannot do fried foods, but it was all good. I suffered later, but not because of this place. lol. My partner loved the Guinness and they mixed a beverage for him as well and he loved that, too! So much fun! read more

We were SO lucky to find this place while visiting Salem during Halloween weekend ! The service was great, and we were seated quickly despite it being pretty busy. A reason for this is the Irish band that was playing, really setting the mood for the evening. Most importantly, the food was INCREDIBLE !!! The Irish nachos were AMAZING ! Pumpkin Pie Shots: As someone who doesn't drink at all, the "pumpkin pie shots" were DELICIOUS (literally tasted like a pumpkin pie and I am NOT a sweet tooth or pumpkin lover) and it definitely showed, because they were out of this drink! 2. Jell-o shots: Not bad... especially for my first time trying these haha! 3. Long Island Iced Tea: This one was really good (refreshing). Service: They started charging cover fees as it got later throughout the night... but the bouncers did a good job at monitoring the place to make sure it wasn't too crowded on a Friday night in October. Ambiance: I don't go out at all honestly, but I must say this was nicer that the bars I had been to in Fenway/Seaport. Felt way less crowded and music was GREAT (lots of Latin pop which I loved). It didn't feel sweaty and gross. Overall, definitely a popping spot in Downtown Salem and lines were long but fast moving on an October Friday night. But the sheppards pie was complete trash and the bangers and mash were also complete trash, the beef stew tasted like it came out of a can the sausage used in the Bangers and mash was like frozen breakfast sausage u would get at a dennys or an ihop. just utterly insane given the location. read more

O'Neills is your neighborhood bar right in the center of the witch tourist trap that is Salem, Mass. It is your wonderful Irish pub. The gentleman who greeted us, was fantastic and I felt like I had just entered Cheers. He was friendly and gave me all the feels I have missed with going to bars and hanging out. Massachusetts is like New York in that you need to order some sort of food to imbibe, and we got the cheapest item, which was tortilla chips and salsa for $1. I miss bars. The wisdom of the bartender. The bar was set up so that there was a table sticking out from the bar and two stools. There was more than 6 feet between us and the bartender, and I felt extremely comfortable. We only ordered Jameson and ginger ales, and the $1 chips and salsa, so I can't really speak to anything more. The bartender's friendliness won me over and the big pour of Jameson also helped as well. read more

WORST BAR IN SALEM!!! I will never be a customer here again. Bouncer named ROGER was extremely aggressive and attacking my two friends who were waiting for me use the bathroom. He screamed profanities at them unprovoked. He said he didn't care if I got "raped in that bathroom" he wanted them to leave the bar regardless. I have never experienced such unprofessional staff in my lifetime. I hope nobody goes to this DISGUSTING bar. read more

Walked in no wait or line with plenty of open tables. Hostess had us go back outside to start a new line. Within five minutes called us in. My guess is to make others think it's a hard place to get into as many of the restaurants really do need the line outside at this time of year. Ordered a pretzel and the beef stew. The mustard for the pretzel had bubbles in it as it sat untouched on our plate. The cheese sauce is just canned nacho sauce, highly unexpected coming from an Irish pub. The stew was alright definitely not worth the 'long wait' we had for our table. Yes that's sarcasm. Do yourself a favor and actually wait for a restaurant that deserves the wait. All I could think of is John taffer should make a visit here. However I suppose they make a killing and only survive while all the tourists are here. My friend and I were in Salem for a short time coming from New Jersey, and had to grab a quick bite to eat. I love a good pub so we decided to go to ONeills. Now I'm a beef stew snob, I went to Ireland and basically ate beef stew all around the country and obviously it's made in a certain way that just some pubs here don't quite get right. I was hesitant to order the beef stew because I wasn't sure they could live up to my standards, but I was really in the mood for it so I ordered it. To my surprise, it tasted quite like the beef stew I would get overseas in Ireland. I was so excited! I couldn't believe I found a stew that brought me right back to my time in Ireland. Next time I would want to get it in a bread bowl! Also we had shepherds pie Rangoon which seems to be their unique speciality since I've never heard of it before lol so delicious! You need to grab an order of this cause you won't get it anywhere else. The staff was lovely and everything came out super fast. Typical Irish pub you find throughout Massachusetts. Sports playing, very loud, lots of beers available. The food was pretty typical for pub food as well. I got a Diet Coke ($2.75), onion rings ($6), chicken tenders ($9), and a "pumpkin spice latte" ($12) mixed drink. The PSL was actually Smirnoff vanilla vodka, espresso vodka, pumpkin spice liqueur, and cream. It was great. I was actually very impressed with their Fall mixed drink menu. Lots of fun drinks with Fall specific flavors (apples, apple cider, cinnamon, pumpkin, spices). The service was friendly/fast and the food was affordable, but I felt like it was a pretty average bar. I don't live in Salem, but I wouldn't mind coming back to O'Neill's. read more

We love it here! We frequent this place every time we're in Salem. Great food and we just love the atmosphere. It's very much like you're in an authentic Pub but still clean and comfortable enough that you don't feel that gross, sticky dive-bar feeling. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Roger the bouncer was completely rude for no reason. When I told him that my female friend was alone in the bathroom he said he does not care what happens to her when she is alone int he bathroom. Tried to explain I was completely sober and just waiting for my friend to finish in the bathroom. My friend gave a female bouncer her purse. Roger the bouncer continued to scream fuck you and get the fuck out of my bar when I tried to explain the situation. Had no intention of listening to a girl simply trying the look out for her friend. When I explained to the female bouncer the situation she had compassion and said that it was totally understandable. Roger should be fired for his completely misogynistic and un empathetic ways. I understand being a bouncer is tough but to treat a girl who is looking out for her friend that way is completely irrational. I did not deserve to be treated that way and will never be customer at O'neil's bar for this reason alone. read more

Only giving one star because the waitress was very nice, although very stressed and was the only one working around 3pm on a Saturday. Ordered a burger with just cheddar cheese. Pretty simple order. It arrives with just onions, no cheese. I waived down some tall red head kid that worked there, not sure in what capacity. I told him what happened, said it should have just come with cheddar cheese, not just onions. He takes it without a word, back to the kitchen. No acknowledgement or apology. About 10 minutes later, it comes back, this time with nothing on it at all. This time I talk to our waitress and tell her what happened, and just to take it back, that I no longer want anything. My daughter and I could only laugh about it at that point. The whole situation was made worse in my opinion by the lack of interest by the guy that didn't seem to care at all. read more
