O'Puledrone is the kind of place you hope to stumble on when you're in Italy. It's tucked away in Sorrento's old fishing port (La Marina Grande) and run by a local family who actually catch the seafood themselves--and wow, you can taste the difference. We had mussels in a super flavorful tomato broth, perfectly grilled octopus, and spaghetti with clams that was out of this world. Everything was fresh, simple, and so, so good. Pro tip: don't just stick to the menu--check out the chalkboard specials. That's where you'll find the freshest dishes of the day. You can easily walk from the city center. O'Puledrome is in a really gorgeous location. It is a relaxing spot for dinner with a view of the boats/ocean. My partner and I shared 3 items - caprese salad, mussels, and swordfish. The caprese salad and the mussels were standard and decent, but didn't impress me. The swordfish was the catch of the day and was seasoned well and was the highlight of my meal. I definitely recommend O'Puledrone for a casual dining experience in Sorrento. The service might be a little slow, but that's a good opportunity for one to enjoy the view and cherish the moment in this beautiful coast! read more

Great location, great vibes and great food! Came here for lunch as soon as we arrived in Sorrento. The kitchen was not even open yet, but they gladly got some wine for my wife and myself and soda for my kids (16 and 12). Once food was available we had Bruschetta and some fries. Then for lunch my wife had the fish special and my daughter (12) and myself had the Gnocchi. My oldest daughter (16) had fried fish. All the food was delish and the only real complaint was my wife's fish had a few bones, which might be a thing in Italy as several fish dishes had bones. Family wanted to try a place in Marina Grande and this was the first option based on its rating and reviews. View was great as it's next to the ocean. Service was a bit lacking as I felt we were somewhat ignored at times. 4.5/5 spaghetti with clams - perfectly al dente spaghetti. This was the highlight of our meal. Wish clams were bigger though. 4.5/5 Fried fish - sardines, shrimp, and calamari all fried. This was great. I'd order it again. 3.5/5 seafood risotto - felt the rice was a bit undercooked. Again clams were small. This would be a very good dish in the US, but here in Italy, it was maybe above average. Especially after having the same dish at Da Gigino the night before, this was not close to that. Makes me wanna go there just for their seafood risotto again. This is the best seafood I have ever had. We had the bruschetta, seafood risotto, and mixed grilled fish. The restaurant is owned by a fisherman family and the fish is all fresh catches. The bread for the bruschetta was warm and toasted just right, with a hearty amount of oil and extremely fresh tomatoes. The seafood risotto came next. We devoured it in about 7 minutes. Finally the mixed grilled fish came. It was so fresh and cooked to perfection. We also got a litter of the house red wine. Can't recommend it enough!! The workers were very attentive and kind. Best seafood in Sorrento!! I love their no frills concept - barebones restaurant owned cooperatively by a group of local fishermen who catch all the seafood they cook that day fresh and locally. Supposedly O'Puledrone has first dibs on the catches of the day before the rest is sold to neighboring restaurants. I had arguably the best seafood salad (10 euros) appetizer last night - the freshest, juiciest, most tender grilled calamari I've had ever in a lightly seasoned fresh bed of rockets and celery in lemon juice. The peppered mussels (8 euros) appetizer was standard compared to Di Leva next door and other Italian restaurants I've been to so far, nothing too special and doesn't come with crostones/bread or vegetables. Both portions were large and light, not fried. The seafood salad can be a meal on its own - I was so stuffed before I could even finish! Venue- no seats inside, but many seats outside facing the water and boy do these seats fill up, even at 11pm on a Monday! Not sure if they have restrooms. Service- all boys/young men, very polite and knows some English. Are they part of the fishing cooperative? Value- similar to neighboring restaurants, but I think it's slightly cheaper here. You definitely get the quality and quantity for what you pay for! If only I had more time in Sorrento I would come back again and again :) read more

We walked by O'Puledrone and then came back because we saw people outside of the restaurants eating fried sardines. It looked like the popular dish at this restaurant. So, we sat down and got service instantly. We order the grilled seafood, fried calamari, fried seafood. They were all fresh. It was so delicious! The olive oil on the grilled fish was so good. Amazing place. Simple, fresh fare served by warm local fishing families. Prices are amazing, walk up the hill and pay double and won't be as good. Don't expect super fancy here. Just fresh coastal cooking the way rye have done it for generations. One of owners we talked to is 7th generation fisherman "I was born up there, now live there" ( pointing above resto and then Three windows over) have one more night in Sorrento and likely going back. He even offered to drive us back up to top of town to our hotel but we needed to walk off the awesome meal. read more

The reviews for this spot were deceptively positive. When we came here we were expecting fresh seafood brought in by the fisherman who supposedly ran the restaurant and had "first pick" of the days catch but what we got was very dry swordfish steaks that were definitely not the catch of the day. Additionally, our pasta we ordered looked like something I would make in my dorm room when I was running out of money (not kidding, it was Barrila pasta with mushed up cherry tomato) . Although we weren't expecting great pasta at a seafood restaurant, we would have liked to have at least gotten some pasta that was cooked and prepared in a way we'd expect from Italy and Sorrento. I don't like giving bad reviews but if your a tourist, this is a clear tourist trap. The place next door looked a lot better anyways. read more

I've never been a fan of risotto because it tends to be too heavy and has to much cream but it's not at all the case here. It's cooked perfectly and not too heavy. Almost like a Spanish paella. One of the very best places in Sorrento not only do you eat a great meal if you like you can go fishing with the owner and his family to see how the old days they use to catch fish. This restaurant is located in Marina Grande, just a 10 minute walk down the hill from Sorrento. It has indoor and outdoor seating, but unless there is good reason otherwise everyone should be sitting outside. It located right on the water (our table was literally 5 feet from the beach). Great atmosphere to people watch, watch the sunset, and feel the warm ocean breeze. We ordered the house wine and lots of seafood and pasta. All of the good was great, but I'm giving a special shoutout to the clam pasta. I've never been a huge fan of clams, but this changed it. The clam pasta was superb and worth coming back for. After our delicious meal, we tried to pay, but our cards weren't accepted (we didn't have this problem anywhere else in Italy). We had to go on a wild goose hunt for a functional ATM. We ended up not finding one that worked and returned to the restaurant to try our cards again. Worked the the second time. Definitely recommend going to one of the restaurants in Marina Grande rather than up the hill in Sorrento. The food is more delicious and the prices are better. read more

DONT EAT HERE. Terrible service & overpriced. We ordered a €17 marinara and fish "special", which was a very small serving of mushed fish in tomato sauce with packet pasta. The next meal was literally, bits of fried seafood.. Including whole fish with heads and bones, whole prawns, and calamari you couldn't even chew. We had to ask for bread, when the next table beside us were served it without asking, we were then charged for the bread, and the receipt was just a whole bunch of numbers with no itemisation. €28 in total for a shared meal which was terrible. Just because it's beside the water, does not mean the food will be good! My recommendation: go a few streets back from the water. Cheaper, friendlier and tastier. read more

O'Puledrone is that spot that you're always trying to find on vacation or passing through a town/city that you know must exist but can't always find. So much of Sorrento and Southern Italy is catered toward tourists, and yes, there are many fantastic restaurants and cafes in Marina Grande, but O'Puledrone is the absolute real deal. In fact, being owned by fishermen, a few restaurants actually buy their fish from them, but you'd never know it. Gaetano, the owner, is an absolute beast. He and his brother will take you out on their boat and show you how fishing is done in the Bay of Naples. You'll use nets and hand lines to bring in white fish like baby tuna, small barracuda looking fish, and many many Sardines. Gaetano stands there letting the nets out with his brother, steering the boat in a circle with his leg, smoking a cigar, and, if you're got the upper body strength and feeling like you want to do more to earn the food than just pay the ridiculously low price of, if I can recall correctly 60-70 Euro? (don't quote me), you can help them pull in the nets and feel like a real Italian fisherman. It's impossible not to catch anything with these guys. After a few nets, their bucket will be full with small fish like Sardines that you can eat like popcorn after they're fried. After that, they may take you out by il Bagno della Regina Giovanna, which is an amazing place to spend the day anyways, and, using the Sardines as live bait, will fish the area for bigger white fish. I watched Gaetano and his brother catch about 20 1 foot and a half long + fish in 10 minutes before I caught a few of my own with the handline. Their skill makes a lot of sense, seeing as they fish literally every day on their own for the restaurant. When we were done, another passenger asked if we could go for a swim and they took us right outside of Regina Giovanna and let us swim for about 15 minutes inside the beautiful bagno. After heading back and having spent about 2-3 hours at sea, they seated us at a table and went to work cooking the fish we caught. Waiting for it we were served free wine. When they brought out the first plate, I couldn't believe my eyes, there were so many of those delicious small fish. I ate so much I hardly had any room left when they brought out 5 of the bigger white fish including the small tuna and barracuda, all very lightly fried and falling off the bone. The amount of food they served us (just 3 people) was absolutely insane. You will NOT walk away hungry. During the meal, Gaetano brought out his one year old son to say hi and then he and his wife ate behind us, coming over occasionally to stand with us and have a nice chat or speak to us from his table. His English is very good, and the conversation was a great compliment to the day fishing and the wine and the food. The waiter and host Antonio is also a character, very funny with his side comments and kind and ready to bring you anything. When I was done I felt like I could sleep for three days, and I just about nearly did. Hands down the best day I had in Sorrento. O'Puledrone is the best place to eat in Marina Grande. I think I saw somewhere on TripAdvisor that it was ranked just 17 or 223 restaurants in Sorrento, which just goes to show you how wrong some of these measurements can be. Besides, there's a lot of locals eating here, not the type to use Yelp or Tripadvisor, which is also how you know it's good. Follow the locals, they know where to eat, not the average tourist wandering through. O'Puledrone is not only the best bang for your buck, it's the best damn fish in all of Sorrento. My best friend and I are traveling through Europe and during our stay in Sorrento we got the pleasure of visiting this restaurant. The location is beautiful. It's on the coast and the perfect spot to have dinner while watching the sunset. The prices at this establishment are very fair and the food was delicious. I ordered the seafood risotto, which I would definitely recommend trying out. Whenever my friend and I would come to eat here the staff was always very friendly and helpful. Also, try the house wine! Romance overload! Right by the water...small restaurant sourced by the family that owns it. We enjoyed an evening with awesome seafood, pasta and red wine. We told them what we liked and they created a masterpiece. The owner spent time filling us in on the family business which is split between fishing in the local waters and running the restaurant. This is far by the best restaurant in Sorrento. It is also the only authentic and fairly priced restaurant in Sorrento. It is run by a cooperative of six fishermen. The fish lands straight from the sea into the kitchen. I can vouch for the freshness of the fish and the cleanliness of the kitchen as they were kind enough to take me on a fishing trip where I could witness the fish being unloaded straight into the immaculately clean kitchen. The staff and family who run it are incredibly friendly and the service is efficient and friendly. In our time in Sorrento we have been here at least 5 times, sampling a broad selection of the menu and never once been disappointed. Having eaten at a number of places of Sorrento, this place stands out as the only honestly priced place that serves truly authentic food from the region using the best and freshest raw materials. In general we were underwhelmed with by busier, touristy looking establishment, so we are most grateful having found this simple, yet delicious restaurant which is directly supporting the local, hard working fishermen. read more
