I'd hear "O-O-O O'Reilly's! Auto Parts! Woooaw!" Jingle on the radio and sometimes on TV commercials all the time, but never had been to one until recently. Back east, AutoZone and Advanced Auto reign supreme with Napa in a distant 3rd so I'm not quite sure why it'd be advertised so much. Well, this recent and first time visit to my local O'Reilly's was really good. The store is stocked and kept well so my search for a new air filter was fast, and they have a appropriate displayed QR codes so you can match up your vehicle without too much trouble. Ah no longer do I have to thumb through a book or even ask a staff member. Even if I did, I think they'd be helpful. When I stepped up to the counter, the attendant was friendly, asked if I found everything ok and all that which is always nice. I'm a reliable O'Reilly customer wherever I go, but this Ballard location (my home location, hooray) is even still a cut above. I needed to get a headlight bulb and was already trying to block time out in my day to spend 15 minutes installing it because I knew I would have to watch a YouTube video to remember how to do it. Nope, not at this store! As I was buying the bulb, the fella asked me if I'd like help installing it, and of course I said yes. We walked right out and he put the bulb in for me in under a minute. Time saved for me! I'd also been holding off on a battery replacement for a while and gambling it would last. The bulb was so easy that I asked him batteries, too. We found the battery that would work best for my car, we went out again, and lickety split, he installed the battery for me, too. Do you know how much in labor a mechanic would charge you to install a battery? Is labor ever less than 30 minutes? At O'Reilly, I got the battery installed for free, I didn't need to make an appointment, and I was ready to drive away in a few minutes. read more

I had a battery question on and off for a while - not sure if my issues were that I left the dome light on or something else neglectful on my side, or if the battery had gone bad. Each time they tested it at no charge, and never tried to sell me a battery until I really needed one. They also installed the new battery, and a new headlight bulb I needed recently. Came in to the front and asked a worker for what I needed and he asked if I was looking for the best, and I said yeah and he picked them out right away for 60$ total; I didn't mind spending the money since my car needed the wipers since it's probably been a while since it's a used car. Who does this? We walked in for replacement wipers. While we were looking them up online using the QR Code in the wiper aisle (that locates your wiper type) a clerk walks over and asks if we need help. He looked at my phone where we pulled up the QR Code for the wipers and he turned right o the correct wipers. He then walked us to the check-out register asking if we needed anything else. Nope. After checking out he asked if we needed help installing them. Seriously? Why, yes! Especially since it's 40 degrees out and raining. All this and the store was quite busy as well but yet he went the extra mile for us without us asking, much less even thinking any retail business would offer such help. He walked out with us and pulled the old wipers, installed the new and showed us how to release and replace the new style in future. Amazing! I could not love this place more. Best auto parts store I've ever been in because their customer service is just always on point. I've almost never waited to get someone at the counter, they look up what I need on the computer pretty fast if that's necessary and then they really go above and beyond in helping you even after that. I just had a headlight go out and they offered to put it in. I think it was a little more difficult than they anticipated but each guy took a turn trying to figure it out until the bulb was replaced. There was another time when I was almost sure I needed a battery. Guy offered to test my battery with a device and told me I don't need a battery. Very good selection of almost any part you need, with some exceptions based on the year of your vehicle. Excellent selection of gasoline and oil additives that the Licton Springs store did not have, since I have an older car, I can use those, whereas if you have a car made after say, 2008, you won't generally need oil or gas additives as recommended by the car manufacturer. Most of the oil prices are about 20% higher than Fred Meyer, which carry nearly all of the same brands for less, but you can get them here as well--oil is expensive now! $6.00 a quart for regular, $10 a quart for full synthetics, a bit high-- I've been shopping here since 1980, but I don't make it over here too much any more. Still part of the neighborhood, though, and I appreciate that. Difficult/dangerous to turn left here from Southbound 15th Ave. NW, better to be going northbound and turn right from either 15th Ave. NW or NW 52nd Street. Good hours and good stock and nice counter people. read more

This location is always hit or miss for me. On a good day, the associates are super friendly and nice and wanting to help out customers, but on the other hand, I have seen associates deliberately TURN AWAY when they see customers looking for help or just looking confused like they need assistance. YES. How the heck do you just pretend to not see people and look away when your job is to help customers? 1 good experience is that they let me return something with my receipt hassle-free. And when I had called the day before mentioning I might have lost my receipt, they said they'd still take my refund as long as I could show them the card I used so they could look up the purchase. That was quite friendly. The experience before that was ugly. I asked naively for some anti-freeze because my father told me to get it except he has broken English and sometimes gets things confused in English with what he's actually thinking because he describes things sometimes instead of telling me the real name for something. Anyways, he really wanted me to get something else for my windshield but he thought it was anti-freeze (which is for your engine) and me...I just believe my dad because what he tells me is typically right if I understand him correctly. This time we both got confused. He asked me to buy the wrong thing. I bought what he told me to buy but it wasn't actually what he wanted me to buy. And when I tell the sales guy "Actually, I don't think this is what my dad wants me to buy if it's for my engine." Sales guy: "Well, if your dad told you to buy it, he's probably right." Me: "I don't think I should buy this if it's for your engine." Sales guy: "Well, you should buy it if your dad told you. He's right." Me: "Ummmm..." (in my head I am so confused and look like a stereotype of a female not knowing what she wants for her car but I do know I just got lost in translation with my dad and now I am annoyed he just told me I'm wrong and my dad is wrong). Well, after this guy told me I'm wrong and my dad is right... I find out my dad is wrong and I was right. And I no longer care for this location. Mehhh. They get 3 stars because this is the only location I have visited where there are actual sales associates instead of just 1 or 2 with 10 people in line. First of all they didn't try and talk me into the most expensive ones. They showed me the whole range so I could grab what was in my budget. Some a$$hat hit the front of my parked car and broke the license plate bracket and frame. The plate was still clinging on, and I was out and about, so I called these guys and asked if they carried license plate frames. They did, so I showed up within 15 minutes, purchased a cheapo license plate frame, and borrowed a screwdriver from them to get the job done then and there. It was then that I realized the frame I just purchased didn't fit the somewhat broken license plate bracket; not to mention, the plate itself was sort of mangled. I went in, and asked if they carried license plate brackets, to which they answered negatively. I further asked if someone could take a look and suggest what should be done. One of the guys in the store obliged me by walking to my car, and after looking at it, told me that it was close to their closing time (20 minutes to closing), and nothing could be done then (in all fairness, he did put the screws back on that I'd taken off). Disappointed, I went back in the store to return the just recently purchased license plate frame. The guy proceeded to tell me that I was pretty much f***ed (not his language, but very much his intent), and my best option was to take the car to a body shop. After seeing my surprise (can you blame me, we were talking about fixing a plastic bracket mounted by two screws), he told me that he did that for a living (thanks captain obvious) and it's not unusual for people with little knowledge of cars (that's me, he got that right) to assume that replacing the license plate bracket would be easy peasy. I came home, went online, and found an exact replica of the broken license plate bracket and a good-looking frame from Advance Auto Parts. 20 min later and $30 lighter, I was relieved and the order shipped the next day. When it arrived, it took me less than 20 minutes in almost darkness, aided only by the flashlight of my phone, to replace the broken ones on my car (go back and read the closing time thing), and the new ones fit like a pair of gloves. Bottomline: Open late - check. Courteous behavior - check. Knowledge - meh. Possibility of giving the customer a heart attack - very high. Shop online; there's a reason eCommerce is blowing brick and mortar stores out of the water, and that reason is, there are no humans involved. read more
