Jared told me what was wrong and how he fixed it, as well as what to do moving forward. He was friendly and the work took almost the exact amount of time he quoted me - which was a huge relief. They can be a bit on the hefty side price-wise, but their work is solid. A friend recommended this place, and after having been burned a couple of times by Grease Monkey Ballard [I will never go back to Grease Monkey], I was happy to spend my money elsewhere, despite not being happy to spend it at all. They stayed true to the amount they initially quoted me on both of my trips (for different reasons), and they explained everything in lay terms. And, for me, this place is convenient via combo bus and foot while the car is being worked on, so that's a plus. Also, there's a lot of great shopping in the Greenwood neighborhood to bide your time, so you can quit being so antsy. read more

My car battery died yesterday after 5 years of use. When I called Honda in Kirkland they told me they would need to have the car towed to them. I called AAA, they told me I would need to become a member first with a 69.99 monthly service charge. I called my insurance company who told me my car wasn't covered by towing. After all the frustration I decided to sleep on the matter for the night. There is a Salmon's Service Center next block so I walked there this morning and Jason offered to jump start my car and took care of the rest. I love this place! These guys are always willing to help. They will drop everything they are doing to help right away and get you in and out . They've done my brakes, replaced a radiator, and do all our oil changes. They are honest and trustworthy and you know things will get done right for a fair price. We are thinking of moving down to Beacon Hill but honestly I will probably still make the drive up when in need. It's hard to find honest mechanics these days. You wont be disappointed. read more

I've taken my 05' Acura TL here twice now. The first time was when I just moved to town and had a burning rubber smell going on. They found the problem and didn't charge me (I forgot what the problem was). I recently took my E46 BMW in for an oil change at BMW Seattle, as they have a very good deal for fresh oil + filter. However, there's a reason for that good deal - the dreaded upsell. In my case, BMW Seattle wanted over $500 for a new serpentine belt and fresh coolant. Before taxes. I declined, got my car back, and went to Salmon's. Total for treating my car to fresh coolant and a new serpentine belt? Less than half of what BMW Seattle wanted. And they knew to use the proper BMW coolant in my car - no reminder needed. I'm glad I found a local shop for general service and maintenance items. There are other European cars that get serviced there as well and the technicians know their stuff. I'll be taking my Toyota there as well. read more

This place is great! Cheap, quality service.. Not to mention they are open SEVEN days a week. My BMW E46 ZHP started overheating. I took it to my usual shop, and was met with disappointment. Within days, the car started to chronically overheat again. To make things worse, the power steering started going as well. I decided to try a new shop, and took it to Salmon's. Let me just say.. The guys at this shop went above and beyond to get my car running normally again. The other shop apparently damaged some hoses/connectors (effectively undoing whatever they "fixed"), created a leak in my power steering system, put in the wrong coolant, and did not do a complete repair job. Salmon's fixed everything, and was communicative during the whole process. More importantly, I never felt like they were trying to "upsell" repairs to me; rather, they tried to keep my repair bill as low (!!!) as possible. In the end, Salmon's put in proper coolant, replaced my thermostat (a necessity to replace when you touch the cooling system, something the other shop didn't do), replaced broken cooling hoses/connectors, and fixed my power steering for under $1,000. Had I taken my BMW to BMW Seattle, the cost to get just the thermostat replaced probably would have been $1,000. At the other shop, this bill would've been around $1,500. Their part cost is very reasonable. I always cross-check how much a shop charges me vs. how much the part would cost to order myself. It looks like the only upcharge was for shipping/delivery (aka, their cost is basically identical to getting your own parts). A lot of shops in this area take advantage of you by charging ridiculous prices for parts (and not allowing you to bring in your own). As I said before, the mechanics seem very knowledgeable, trustworthy, and professional. It seems like the employees here are genuine car enthusiasts (one of them saw my car, and we talked a little bit about all the cars we've owned). I couldn't recommend this place enough to other E46/BMW owners. *Also not sure why they're rated as $$$, they're definitely $$ for this area. read more

EDIT: Phil Salmon directly contacted me and gave me a fair credit to have work done in the future. I raised the review up a star and revoked the long story in order to be fair to Mr. Salmon. Went again for my Sentra as I was having additional issues weeks ago, and writing an update today after feeling out that the repairs were good and I wouldn't have to go back. The short story is that if you have transmission problems, don't be stupid like me, go to a transmission-specializing place. To save you the grief, go to North Seattle Transmissions (http://www.yelp.com/biz/north-seattle-transmission-shoreline), because that's the place they will using anyway, as they do not do this type of work at this establishment. I can vouch for the work done, and it is satisfactory, and I'm sure they communicate their services and costs much better. read more

This service center is absolutely wonderful. For me, customer service is nearly everything. All of the people that work here have been amazing and treat the customers with a great deal of respect. In the past couple months I have taken my vehicles here to have general maintenance done and I couldn't have been happier. This morning I woke up to a flat tire and being that it's a Sunday, nearly every single tire center was closed. BTW, I called Sears and they told me to call back at a less busy time, WOW. I didn't want to have to deal with this tire issue on Monday, so I called the Salmon Service Station and they told me to bring the tire in right away. He fixed the tire so fast and had it back on the car in no time. Excellent customer service skills! Owen is also great and did work on my car a while back. I have worked as an auto mechanic years ago, I still do a fare amount of repairs, In the past two or three years when a repair was out of my skill range which is to often on newer cars, or just more work than I wanted to get involved with I have taken it to Salmon Service. I have been happy with all work done there by various mechanics but very recently I have been extremely impressed with the knowledge and work performed by Ian Newman and Matt. My recall is failing me (Sorry Guys) but I think it was Tim and Justin that have also contributed to the work on my vehicles. I have also been pleased and surprised at the reasonable prices. A gas station that actually has a mechanic on duty! Wow! I think they are the last honest fair priced shop in the city of Seattle. They will give you an estimate before performing any work, and their shop prices are very reasonable. They will not perform any work that is unnecessary and will call you if the work exceeds the estimate. If you find it hard to find a mechanic to service your car In Seattle then you have found the right place - oil changes too. I took my car in to them to fix a coolant hose that had failed and the mechanic told me that he could just replace a fitting and would not charge me more than an hours labor. After a few hours I received a phone call back saying that he had to replace the whole hose. The price was reasonable, the revised estimate was reasonable, and he was very professional. My daughter recently had the catalytic converter stolen from her Prius. She first took it to Magic Toyota which was a huge mistake she was treated like a second class human, and was told it would be 30 days to repair. I was given a recommendation for Salmon Service on 85th. I called and spoke with Jarred. He couldn't have been more helpful and respectful. He gave me a quote and said once the car was there it would be at most one day. We dropped it off after they closed on Thursday and it was ready to be picked up Friday afternoon. His quote was exactly what the charges ended up being. We picked it up and spoke with Jarred who answered questions. do not take your car here!!! i have a 2016 mustang gt needed a slave cylinder replaced they gave a quote of $1500 i said okay i called back a week later and they said they finally got the parts and were starting that day another week passed and they said they were done but the price tag was $2700 wich was ridiculous considering they never told me they were charging more before proceedure whatever i paid the $2700 and when i got it back the engine light was blinking and when i connected the obd reader it wouldnt turn on they disconnected the obd reader!!!!!!! it seems they savotaged my vehicle absolutely unprofessional !!! then my clutch went out about 250 miles later and i was stuck again took to another shop and they said whoever worked on your car had the brake fluid hose / hydraulic fluid hose barley conected and it came off all fluid leaked out !!! read more

I left work Friday night at Seattle Childrens and walked to an off site parking lot on Sand Point Way to discover that my Prius had the catalytic converter sawed off and the car was not drivable. The next morning I searched for a place to get this repaired to discover that few places in Seattle that do this work are open on a Saturday. I called Salmons and spoke to a delightful young man, Jarrett, who informed me that they had the parts and could do the work that day. I could not find a tow company to answer a call, so I called Jarrett back and he provided me with a phone number for a tow company. Jarrett got the work done by the end of the day at the exact cost that he quoted me, even though more work had to be done to get the tail pipe connected. Additionally, he heard a noise while test driving the vehicle. He investigated the noise and told me that one of my rear ball bearings was shot and I should get that fixed ASAP. He was able to keep the car overnight and get this fixed for me by late morning the next day. Jarrett was calm, polite, friendly and reassuring throughout what was a very upsetting experience for me. I needed a tire patched on a Sunday, when most of the chain tire shops (which usually have a 3-hour wait) are closed, and the other one I called in the morning said they couldn't promise they'd get around to it today. Salmon's said to bring it in. A very short wait and about $17 later, my tire was patched and I was on my way. They were friendly, and the guy showed me what he was doing and how, because I was interested. And now I get to go out and enjoy the rest of a beautiful summer day. So grateful and glad. read more

There prices are out of this world for everything including gas drinks etc but be specially wary of taking your car there for repair or service. I took my 1986 Toyota 4X4 there for an estimate on replacing the head gasket, a easy fix on the old yota they quoted me $1,200.00 to do the job WTF I could have a new motor put in for that price. other garages quoted around 350 to 500 for the same job. Sadly, I have to knock my previous review down a few notches. Mike and his team are friendly and provide great service, but I had an experience with the brakes on my Toyota Yaris that was an unnecessary and potentially dangerous mistake caused by a junior technician from Salmon's. I took my car in for a tire rotation, brake inspection and potential brake replacement. The car was put on the jacks and the brakes were inspected. I was informed that I still had about 10,000 miles on the brakes, and so I opted to keep the current set of brakes. 90 minutes into the service, I was called and informed my vehicle was almost ready. Sure enough, the mechanic was driving it out of the garage and onto the apron... but it seemed like the car was having trouble coming to a stop - he needed to use the E-brake to stop it. So, the junior mechanic who was driving the car drove the car back in the garage, put the car back on the jacks, took the wheels back off, and consulted with the senior mechanic. The senior mechanic apologized to me and re-placed the brakes on the car, lowered the car back down, and put it in reverse... only to have trouble stopping the car again. 2.5 hours in, the mechanic drives the car back on the jacks a 3rd time, raises it up, adjusts the brakes, brings it back down, and drives it out. It seems to stop better and so I'm all good. And plus, I've waited 3+ hours for this, so I gotta go. I drive home, and the brakes feel a bit... different, but I could still stop fine, so no harm no foul. The next work day, which was the next day I used the car, I pulled out of my garage and trundled along to the end of the street. I noticed that the brakes still felt a bit weird. Strange, I thought, but it was probably just my head and the lack of coffee. Nope. I got on the freeway and over the floating bridge, and by the time I coasted into work (quite literally), the brakes were so loose that I was driving around with my hand on the E-brake and my heart in my throat. I immediately called Salmon's and they kindly said they would fix the brakes one last time, for free (my insurance paid for the tow). I hesitated at the thought of having them tinker with the poor Yaris one last time (what went wrong the last 3 times?) but decided to give it one last chance. On the 4th time, Salmon's finally fixed the brakes. Thank goodness. But it took a lot of headache and a potentially dangerous situation to get there. read more

I have been a customer there for many years and always felt the service was great. Today I took it in because my battery dash light was flashing. Floyd explained that meant the alternator was going out and asked me if I had had it replaced. I said I didn't think so. We've purchase gas and propane from Salomon's for over twenty years. It's one of the few service stations that has an actual mechanic available and on staff. The other day the car I was driving began making an odd scraping noise. Usually, I'd call my dad, but I can't do that anymore because he died suddenly last October and lives in a box on the bedroom dresser. I did the next best thing and called Salomon's Service Center. Unfortunately it was fifteen minutes before closing, however Tom said bring the car in and he'd take a look at it. Instant relief! Before I could drive up the slope into the garage, he notices the problem and tells me I have a headlight out too. It cost me less than $25.00 for everything and I was on my way to pick up my son in less than half an hour. If you have any experience with the New VW Beetles, you know it can suck to change burnt out lights and finding a mechanic who doesn't charge an exorbitant amount to fix a simple light is fantastic. read more
