Went in on a Saturday night at 730. Place was not busy. Open tables everywhere. Stood there 20 minutes never was asked a name or how many in my party. Watched this young girl that worked there walk past us and around the restaurant all confused. Finally got asked if we were helped. Said no she than walked away said BRB. I stopped by the restaurant one night after an Indian Food affair across the street, Sugandh. It's cute, traditional with checkered tablecloths, and has all the classic, usual fare + pizzas. I noted it, for sure, for a future visit. A couple of weeks later, I had a long day at the office, and decided that I needed a delivery to my hotel room, and I found O'Sole Mio on UberEats app. Yes! In about an hour, the driver delivered to my door (and was really nice, too). When I opened the plastic bag, I found everything was packaged so beautifully and neat, along with all the proper cutlery, napkins, chili flakes, and parm. I couldn't wait. 1. Chicken Scallopini [$17.50, 3.5 stars] -- served with sautéed spinach, it was a small portion and rather than a white wine/olive oil, it was a light red sauce with onions and mushrooms. A little tough, too. Still enjoyable, just not great. 2. Ravioli with Meat Sauce [$13.50, 3.0 stars] -- decent portion of small size ravioli with a very thin meat-flavored sauce, very far from meaty. This was my fist time going here so I don't know what is normal for them. I will preface this my saying the staff is super friendly and were hustling about and the food was excellent, especially the bread. Wow!! I will definitely be coming back to give it another try. We did call a few days ahead of time to see if we could make a reservation. Unfortunately, they do not take them for a table for two. Upon arriving there was a group of three ahead of us. There wasn't a host or hostess but they had a sign in sheet. The frustrating part is there was no communication on how long the wait would be. Had I been told 40 minutes that would have been fine. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they were short staffed due to covid. I do not know if this is the case but I think we should all be a little more patient and friendly to restaurant staff. The wait would up being over 40 minutes. First, they got my order wrong. I ordered the seafood fettuccini but got the seafood soup. Big disappointment! The seafood fettuccini is my go-to dish when trying a new Italian restaurant and it was a huge let down to not receive what I ordered. Second, I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs for my kids. The pasta was undercooked, more than just al dente. And the sauce was bland/severely under seasoned. Third, the crab ravioli was delicious! But there was little to no sauce. I had not visited since before the pandemic, but my friend insisted on Italian pasta on Friday and she works in nearby San Mateo, so I thought we would come here. It was outstanding down the line. The place was pretty full around 7 pm with a short wait, but not super busy.The host was very professional and accommodating when I declined the first table offered. We had to wait an extra ten minutes, and it worked out to my satisfaction. The cappellini with tomato and garlic sauce was delicious and not overcooked, and there was a sufficient amount for me to take some home and it made for a nice breakfast the next morning. The "dinner" Caesar's salad was good and ample, and the amount of sauce was a little on the light side, which is preferred to being overly drenched. The white anchovies were very tasty, served on the side. Prices were reasonable. Seemed to be mostly locals and friendly groups and the entire restaurant had a friendly vibe. Waiter was attentive. I have been coming to this restaurant with my family for over 14 years. Hands down my favorite Italian restaurant in the peninsula. This restaurant is clearly a happening joint for locals and families. Walk in, and the atmosphere puts you in a warm, cheerful mood. Some may say the decor is tacky -- checkered tablecloth, painted ceiling to mimic the sky, hanging grapes/grapevine ceiling decor, jukeboxes on every table, and old timey music posters on the walls -- but I LOVE IT! I celebrated my Son's 1st birthday here many years ago and thought the food was good. During this Shelter In Place time I thought to order from here again to support my local restaurant. On Mothers Day I called the restaurant at 430pm and someone picked up and I requested to place a order for pick up and he told me they dont open until 530pm. So i said OK ill call back. At exactly 530pm i called to request to place a order and the guy tells me that he can no longer take my order bc they were backed up! Then i said I had called earlier and you told me to call back in an hour. If you couldnt take my order then you shouldnt have told me to call back in an hour! I could have called other places at 430pm to order food from... So at 545pm im trying to find another option to order my Mothers Day Meal! At almost 6pm all the restaurants have a over 90min wait for pick up so that would mean me and my Son wont be eating until almost 8pm on Sunday! One of the better Italian restaurants around. We ordered the Fresh Clams Over Linguini and Pasta Pomodoro with a side of Meatballs. Huge servings! My husband raved about his Linguini and 26 clams! On a recent trip to the San Francisco area, we decided to grab a room at a motel near the train station so we could easily get to a Giants game without the craziness of staying, driving & parking in SF.
