The food was very good, but after we got our food the service was very slow and we had to wait quite a while to get our check. We eat here all the time and when we aren't dining in we are having it delivered. It's some of the best food you can get in Richmond! We have never had a bad experience here and we keep coming back! They have great drinks and prices and good selection of draft beers and ciders too! The patio setup is great for a nice day and that's our preference, but the food is just as good inside or delivered. We prefer dry rub wings and they make our favorites anywhere we've had. We tend not to eat a lot of beef and pork which makes bbq a bit of a challenge for us, but the chicken and turkey options don't disappoint and they have jackfruit for the non meat eaters! read more

The big surprise of this meal was the chorizo sausage. My family split sides of Mac n cheese and three sausage links and just had hoped of trying the chorizo link. It was amazing and we wished we had more. All of the sauces were good with our favorites being the spicy, the hoisin, and the classic styles sauce. The Mac n cheese is a great side for any of the meals and the rolls are also sweet. The apple slaw is hit or miss for each person. The concern for me was their brisket. This was supposed to be the star of the show and yet in comparison to the high quality of everything else on the table, the brisket was dry. However, this is not the last time I will try their brisket as you can tell it was cooked properly and the bark is impressive. But to my surprise it was cheesy and just enough breadcrumb on top to give it texture. My greens were pretty good as well I prefer mine to be a bit more tender but all in all they were good. My date ordered the bbq nachos and substituted the pulled pork for jackfruit. Needless to say he enjoyed them, he got quiet and all I could hear was humming *he hums when he is eating something good* I'll definitely be back to try the trout and pastrami beef ribs. Our server's name is Jason and he was attentive, funny and personable. He was patient and answered our questions about the side dishes and recommended the Smoke platter for us. We really enjoyed the service and the food. We thought the brisket was on the dry side, which is why I knocked off one star. They do offer a variety of special bbq sauces that I haven't seen before at other bbq joints. I think that brisket should be able to stand alone without sauce, but their apple bbq sauce was yummy that it wasn't a deal breaker for us. The pulled pork was juicy and tasty. I really liked their beans, and sweet corn fritters. The corn fritters are their version of hush puppies, and was crispy and light on the inside. The pimento cheese and sambal jelly perfected complimented it. My partner really enjoyed the postbellum pickle pot and cheese curds. The cheese curds remind me of mini mozzarella sticks and it was fun to take a bite and pull the cheese as far as I could. The interior was very clean, they had barrel tables by the huge bar and regular square tables in the back. I only got to see the patio when I was walking in, but it looked spacious. First let me start off by saying this is my first time having anything from Oak and Apple and I happened to be ordering through their website and getting my food via DoorDash. Right off the top my food was missing an item! I ordered the three meat platter and only got two meats they did not give me the apple barbecue wings however they did give me an extra cornbread which knowing what I know now I should've never ordered their cornbread because this is the most dry disgusting burnt cornbread I have ever tasted in my life. Also if you order through their website and DoorDash makes a mistake and you contact DoorDash DoorDash is going to tell you to contact Oak and Apple this is what happened to me. I contacted them because I was missing a meat and the man at Oak and Apple told me that I have to call DoorDash so I called DoorDash and DoorDash said if you order through their website you need to call them to fix it. That whole process was totally frustrating and unnecessary but thankfully there was no issues fixing the order. So, between missing an item and my food arriving late and half of it not even being that good because let's be honest when you get something delivered the people are not presenting it in a way that they would at the restaurant. I visited Oak & Apple a couple weekends ago while visiting Richmond for the first time with a friend. We only stopped in at the bar for drinks, so we didn't check out any of the food items this time. I was a little confused by the aesthetic of the restaurant, there seemed to be a handful of different vibes going on -- there was the typical BBQ vibe, but then also a vintage/almost steampunk-type deal going on too, which I found cool.
