I can't hide my excitement for this tiny market in the suburbs of Atlanta. Over two visits I'm impressed enough to provide a full 5 star. Great service and products. The market located in a strip is easy to access. Parking seemed adequate to pull up directly in front of the business. The lot and walk up clear of debris. The store is not large but it provides a lot within its four walls. A deli and sandwich shop, butcher and prepared meals among the larger areas. They have much more. They are known for a prepared dinner menu, follow them on social media for their line up. It's a quality place so be prepared to pay a premium on items. My first visit I got a Cuban sandwich and the owner made it. He was so friendly as he worked hard on a line back to the butcher shop. The checkout was even more impressive as the woman was a delight and fun to talk to. I ate the sandwich outside at one of their tables and it was authentic and delicious. Another visit was to pick up some odds and ends for the hotel. Of particular note was the tiramisu, just WOW! If your local you already know what a gem. However if your from out of town Oak Grove should be highly considered. read more

I purchased the fish and chips special. The fish was fishy, like noticeably and grossly and the fries were soggy. I got that special because the other special of chicken parm looked a mess on the serving stand. I can't say enough about the quality of their meats!!! They have become our "go to" when we're in the mood to cook steaks. Everything steak I've made that came from here as been phenomenal. They have a large variety of meats, chicken, seafood etc. They also sell prepared foods. The to-go prepared foods that I've seen have been ridiculously overpriced in my opinion. $18 for servings of green beans, brussel sprouts and Mac and cheese that might feed 2 people is a bit much. I've always seen lines at the the counter for prepared foods though, so I'm assuming the food is good. I've tried a lemon cake from them was a bit on the dry side, but a cookie that I tried was pretty good. I've always received good customer service from the staff. I'm a huge fan of quality and they have yet to disappoint. I'd absolutely recommend them for all of your butcher needs. read more

Really disappointed in our pre-cooked brined turkey we ordered for Thanksgiving, which was advertised as being a small turkey between 12-14 pounds. Cost was $99.00. What we received was a 5.8 pound turkey according to our bathroom scale. It was the size of a Costco rotisserie chicken. Contacted market the day before Thanksgiving after picking it up; they assured me that the turkey would be enough for 10 people; started out at 13 pounds; and even offered to come back to the store and give me the gravy that I did not receive. Unfortunately, we were too far away from the market to make this possible. I asked for a 50% refund after Thanksgiving and was told that "shrinkage" occurs; they stand by their product; many of their customers raved about their turkeys; that we were promised a small turkey; and that our scale was not calibrated to a meat scale. read more

Today was the first time in over two and a half years since I've visited Oak Grove Market, and a lot of things have changed during the time I was gone. Oak Grove Market is in a small strip mall in Decatur. I've only been here on Saturday mornings, and parking in the free parking lot has always been available. Oak Grove Market's employees all wear face masks, and customers are required to wear face masks. The employees are friendly, quick, efficient and provide excellent customer service. This business always had a Mom and Pop feel, but now it also has a Mom and Pop look. There is no longer indoor dining allowed. All of the tables have been removed from the middle of the store and were replaced by racks of packaged food items. Oak Grove Market has different sections: a fresh meat department, fresh seafood department, deli department including cold salads and deli meats, and a hot food bar that is available during breakfast and lunch hours. Refrigerated items are along one of the walls. There are some tables out front to eat at when the weather is nice. The main reason why I like this place is because of the breakfast menu at the hot food bar. My favorite item is the breakfast burrito. The employee at the hot food bar pressed a big flour tortilla in the grill and got the tortilla hot enough to melt a slice of cheese on it. While this is happened, he hand chopped strips of cooked bacon. He then piled scrambled eggs onto the burrito and placed the chopped bacon on top of the egg, and then rolled everything tightly with the tortilla and cut it in half before wrapping it in paper, and placing it and a generous amount of salsa into a plastic cup into a take out container. The breakfast burrito is fully packed with food and is so delicious. We were going to eat our burritos at home, but, instead, ate it in the car because I wanted to eat the food while it was still hot ... not to mention that I was starving already. I savored the burrito the entire time I was eating. The salsa added a nice salted spiciness that enhanced the burrito's flavor even more. I was full when I finished off the burrito. I could probably eat one of these burritos every day because they're so good! Reasonable prices, friendly and efficient employees and great tasting breakfast burritos made this morning's experience memorable! I have to come back more often. read more

I love this place! It reminds me of a hometown grocery store, which it is, but a lot more. The butcher and meat counter is great here. They have some steak skewers that my kids absolutely love! They also make sandwiches and have a hot meal counter too. Chips and salsa are always on point as well. read more

We popped in to grab a sandwich and we were so glad we did! It is a cute little market with a ton of great meat selections to take home and cook too! We stuck with sandwiches to go - got the Cuban and the prime rib. Both were absolutely delicious! The prime rib was tender and very flavorful, and the pork on the Cuban was tasty too. We both got the mango broccoli salad. The dressing was light and tangy - it could have used a tad more mango but the mango that was there was a nice compliment to the crunchy broccoli. We also ended up with a couple of bags of local crackers and pimento cheese that we noticed while waiting to order our sandwiches - both the pita crackers and the Ranch saltines were so yummy! The gal that checked us out was super friendly - the guys making the sandwiches were nice too. I saw a sign about checking out the wine...next time we're in we will be buying some meat and wine to pair with it for sure. read more

My husband and I have been coming here every so often for years now, and I realized that I've never reviewed! We've come here just a couple of times for the Saturday special, chicken nachos, which have been a fun meal at the end of the week. You just have to come pretty early to make sure you're able to get your hands on some. We've also stopped by for the chicken salad when we're in the mood for some and don't have bandwidth to make it ourselves. It's pretty good on its own, but we tend to add a seasoning or two just to amp up the flavor. Either way, it's nice to have available for a quick snack during the week. I have been going to this market for years especially when in town! I always check out the prepared food case but usually opt for the daily specials which I know they have been prepared that am! Being their today for lunch sitting near the meat counter I noticed one of the girls who stocks the case come out to the case and pull the containers of soup and returned to the table behind the meat case! She and another girl proceeded to peel the product labels off and put new ones on!! So, the soup she pulled was about or had expired and the OWNER's allow such??? This is so wrong. I had a Friend tell me recently that she had purchased meat loaf from the case that has heat lamps on it and she got probably food poisoning! She contacted the Owner and he was rude to her and said No One Gets Sick From Eating His Meat Loaf!!! I have contacted the Dekalb County Health Dept. as well to advise this incident!! I almost don't want to give OGM 5 stars because I want it to stay a local neighborhood favorite.. T_T I moved into the area earlier in 2018 and always pass this plaza on my commute. One Saturday afternoon, we stopped by to check it out, and then it changed our lives. Now I try to stop by every Saturday for their chicken nachos..those days are my favorite Saturdays. Food -- I've had a breakfast platter (~$5) that comes with choice of bacon or sausage, eggs, grits and biscuit, a brisket plate (~$11), shrimp and grits ($11-12??) and their chicken nachos ($7.99). And... I recommend it all! I have to slowly try more menu items. I will say that I noticed the chicken nachos taste better around noon or later. It's actually ready around 10:15ish but the cheese sauce needs time to thicken. It seems a lot soupier before noon. Ambience and service -- it's always packed here on the weekends! Not so much in the morning, but lunchtime is super busy. It's a market-style dining, it's also very small with some outside seating available. On super busy days, parking can be a challenge. But I've always had a good experience with the people behind the counters. When they know I'm waiting, they try to get my order ready as quickly as they can and then come around to personally give me my order when they're not busy. read more

This is a great local spot with a large selection of brunch/lunch items. It's pretty basic, a real old-town local market feel. I have had the lunch special (salmon+1 side) and the Reuben sandwich. Portions were large and satisfying. Basic Coca Cola cups and plastic plates/silverware. You order at the counter and pay once you leave. The sweet tea is the perfect level of sweet, and the ice is soft and crunchy. They also have an assortment of other features including a meat market, an ice cream counter (only $2.00 per two scoops), and a fruit and veggie stand. They have a pre-prepared food section where you can pick up lasagna and other items which you can pop into the stove at home. My parents live with walking distance from this place and it has become a staple in our life. I look forward to stopping by for a meal when I'm visiting from Augusta. Awesome all around! I first learned about the Oak Grove Market from the TV show Atlanta Eats in 2013. I'm kind of surprised I hadn't heard of this place until then. It started out as Northeast Meats in 1969 and changed its name to Oak Grove Market in 2000. This is a small, popular neighborhood market that sells produce, meats, and has a deli. One of my coworkers goes to the butcher here for his meats. I visited Oak Grove for a Saturday lunch around 1:00pm and the business was busy. There were several families, small groups, and middle-aged to elderly folks. This review is based upon my lunch experience, so I can't comment on the breakfast (7:00am-10:00am), butcher shop, or produce. Lunch is available 10:30am-3:00pm. The market totally has a throwback 1950s American diner theme from the checkerboard flooring to the retro metallic and glossy red cushioned booths and tables. A distinct red couch and coffee table are front and center when you enter the store. A few small flatscreen TVs hang from above in the middle of the dining area. There's limited, covered, outdoor patio seating. The shelves of produce are limited. You can buy refrigerated items like Oak Grove's pre-made meatloaf. The butcher is in the back and stocks a variety of meats and seafood, mostly beef. There's also chicken, pork, lamb, and veal, along with salmon, tilapia, and shrimp among other seafood. Next is the deli. You line up and order cafeteria style. The deli's menu is on the wall. Alternatively, you can just look into the deli case and underneath the hot lamps and see what's available. Almost everything has already been cooked and prepared, so the plates are assembled and handed to you on a tray. At lunchtime, they have mainstays of Brunswick stew, wild rice and chicken soup, and chili. There's a deli case filled with a variety of cold salads. Sandwiches are available using Boar's Head meats. Hot items include burgers, hot dogs, wings, ribs, chicken fingers, pizza, and chicken sandwiches. Nothing too crazy. There are rotating daily food specials. On Saturday, it's the chicken nachos ($7.99). Lunch prices are affordable as almost all meals are under $10 per person. Similar to a cafeteria, you take your tray to a cashier where he/she will ring you up. Drinks, silverware, and napkins are self-serve. I haven't tried any desserts, but I did notice a King of Pops bin on the way out. Score. I tried the following lunch items: Chicken nachos special Ribs Pulled pork Potato salad Broccoli mango salad Black bean and corn salad Coleslaw Overall, I thought the food was okay. It's straightforward, simple, and classic American foods with a sort of home-cooked quality to them. I'd say the lunch foods are comparable to cafeteria quality, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I enjoy eating at some Southern cafeterias. The chicken nachos consisted of small, deep-fried nachos drenched in a layer of shredded chicken and cheese. The shredded chicken and cheese resembled and tasted like a version of chicken salad. I wasn't a big fan of the chips. They seemed generic, hard, and overly greasy. Perhaps overcooked? The ribs were disappointing especially since they were the most expensive lunch item at $10.99. I received a half rack of ribs with a side of BBQ sauce. I waited as the ribs were reheated in a microwave before being served to me. I use a microwave at home because I can't cook, but I don't really expect a microwave to be used when go out and order food. I frown upon it like Robert Irvine of Food Network's Restaurant: Impossible frowns upon it. Restaurants should be serving food cooked fresh, not microwaved. I wouldn't have minded about the microwave as much if the ribs tasted good, but they didn't. The meat was dry and tough and the rub just wasn't flavorful nor appetizing. The ribs definitely tasted like they were leftovers that had been sitting out for a while. I gave away a couple ribs to one of my dining companions. He'll eat anything. He took a bite and put the ribs down. That's how bad they were. Another disappointment was there were no wet naps. Any place that serves ribs should stock wet naps. The pulled pork fared much better than the ribs. The pork was pulled fine and, when mixed generously with the supplied BBQ sauce, were tender, smoky, and tasty. A solid effort there and this was one of the best items I tried. I generally enjoyed the various deli salads. I found them to be mostly mild. Not too sour or tangy. The potato salad seems to be one of the most popular salads. They use red potatoes and slather it in plenty of egg and mayo. I liked the broccoli mango salad too. The corn salad and slaw were fine. One of my tablemates ordered a Boar's Head roast beef sandwich. He thought it was okay, but nothing special. You can get a similar Boar's Head sandwich from a Publix deli. The staff was friendly and hospitable. The sole restroom is located in the back, behind the meat section. read more

I really love this market but shopper beware! Too much of what I buy here (and at a premium price) isn't exactly fresh, suspect, or just inedible. Lobster salad, at $12.99 for a pint (I think) is absolutely delicious but not made and packed fresh often enough for my taste. This premium product should be made and packed every three days maximum IMHO. I bought bad milk but they made it right. They have an interesting selection of products and meat. But don't carry vegetables to cook alongside your meat for dinner. Sometimes there's broccoli casserole. And they carry lovely salads including shrimp salad with sour cream and dill and lemon, I think. Their chicken casserole did not agree with me, and that's an understatement. No bread sold. A great local spot for breakfast or lunch in Oak Grove near Emory and Decatur. OGM's lunch specials are awesome! There's a reason why this place is packed around lunch time. I like their lobster roll that they have on Tuesdays, I believe. They have yummy onion rings and other sides to go with your sandwich. They also make tasty sandwiches made with Boar's head meats and cheeses. OGM also makes pre-made take and go dinners as well as sides like potato salad, shrimp salad and more. Back in the day this place used to have a slushee machine but I think it's no longer there. They have good ice cream and king of pops if you're still looking for a cold treat. read more

Lunch is a deal as well with weekly specials. Everyone has their favorite. I like the steak special. It is a neighborhood scene from Norman Rockwell. They have booths and tables where the locals hang out to catch up with each other. In the morning, there are old timers grouped together telling the same old tales and talking politics. There are business folks that stop by for a quick bite. There are parents enjoying a cup of coffee or a snack in a safe place with their kids. The owner is usually at the register and chats up the regulars. School kids mill about all afternoon. The butcher shop here is not organic so I don't buy that here. I stepped in for lunch earlier today and it was bustling; most of the tables inside were occupied, there were lines at the register and counter, but the staff worked quite efficiently and we received our meals and paid in no time at all. There's such a large variety on the menu, you can definitely find what you're looking for: several different types of sandwiches, there's hot dogs, pizza, pasta, even ribs! I chose the lunch special ($7.99) which was a Tilapia Taco and a choice of side - I had potato salad. I was hoping there was a missing 's' from the taco - $8 for one taco is just crazy. There wasn't - but was much larger than your average taco - they used a medium size tortilla and there were several thin fillets of tilapia inside. It was pretty decent, nothing spectacular. The potato salad was good but spicy - too spicy for my taste, I think I may have had my first heart burn afterwards. The BF had a roast beef sandwich, which was cut into two halves. It was good, the roast beef was definitely some quality cuts. Still I found the sandwich as a whole to be a lesser quality of those served at Savi and Sugar Shack and they're all at the same price range. Another place I've been meaning to try since moving to Tucker, finally made it my last weekend here. The locals love this place and the only time the parking has availability is when it's closed. They have a lot of loyal fans but my review is for my lunch only. It's located in a small strip mall in the middle of a residential area. The parking lot is on a pretty decent slope and shared with several other popular spots. Going on a Saturday afternoon I had to drive around and wait for a spot, any spot. There's a small eating area in the middle of the deli and a few more tables on the sidewalk outside. My order was to go. I had the chicken nachos and a half slab of ribs for later. The chicken nachos could be a lot less chicken and a lot more cheese. It was bland and was lacking texture and taste. I mostly ate around the dish. I'm glad I had the ribs for later because I had to eat some to have good lunch. The actual ribs were very meaty but again lacked taste that I expected. No smoke flavor at all. It was like they were boiled and maybe baked with sauce? Now again that's just from what I had and you don't keep folks loyal without some good items. Good selection of local sauces and rubs for meat. The deli/take away counter has a great selection of salads, sandwiches and meat + options. We tried the bbq ribs with broccoli salad and beet salad and the wings (1/2 honey bbq and 1/2 plain seasoning). Everything was delicious. Ribs were fall off the bone.
