This company hires contractors while the owner takes no responsibility for their work. Which for me has been a disaster. My hardwood floors are warped from the refrigerator leak I was told they fixed. For an extremely high cost. When I called to let him know it is still not fixed he took no responsibility and would not send someone immediately. Because he uses contractors and has no control of his daily appointments. He offered to start a new order and come out in a week. I in other words will pay for another expensive service call. My floors will be totally ruined by then. Not his fault he told me. My fault he said for not telling him what was wrong with the refrigerator so he would know what they had to fix. Really? This business is a fraud. Find the contractors he uses and bypass his company's prices! Trust me. He said he would delete this review. Fraudulent. read more

I just had my 35-year-old Maytag repaired by Oak Hill Appliance, and it was great. They ordered the part, a siphon breaker, which was causing it to leak. Fortunately I haven't had to use Oak Hill Appliance that often. However, when you need appliance repair, it's usually not a great time. I've bought parts for a washer and dishwasher there and have great service there. I've also had to use them to come an repair an oven and a refrigerator at the house. Both times, the repair technician was on-time, knowledgeable and friendly. Both time I was lucky and just needed a part. The repairs were made quickly and for a reasonable charge. For parts, these guys can't be beat. They have most parts that commonly break or wear out in stock, especially for Whirlpool and Kenmore appliances. And they also have the kits that "if you're going to fix this yourself, you really need to fix this too"; my Kenmore dryer belt comes to mind, where I didn't know but the drum rollers really did need to be replaced because they were shot after 25 years. Their prices are hard to beat; they are actually cheaper than ordering from Sears and having it shipped to you. Plus, unlike Sears, you can get the part right now when you need it rather than 7 days later. I've also priced their parts against some of the independent parts suppliers in town, and they consistently come out on top. Although this business is listed as a parts center, they also do repairs. I've called them out for several repairs on a washer and refrigerator. They have always fixed the appliance and it didn't break again in the same place or have any issues. Here are the experiences I've had. Case 1: Kenmore washer that would not spin. Turned out the clutch was shot. I had trouble diagnosing this myself, and the job it turned out to be was more than I would have attempted myself. Between the part and their labor charge, it was a fair deal. Case 2. Kitchen Aid side-by-side refrigerator not cooling. I called Kitchen Aid, because I feared a sealed system failure that would have been under warranty. This place was on their recommended list. When I called to schedule an appointment, I was told they currently didn't do sealed system repairs because someone had stolen the sealed system repair equipment out of their truck. I asked them to come out anyway and it turned out it wasn't the sealed system after all. However, the KitchenAid relay that was failing was $150 to replace, and the repairman told me that if a replacement failed, then it would be the sealed system, and my warranty didn't cover the labor. I suggested to the repair person to try a brand new "hard-start" kit I had on hand in place of the relay. He sort of swallowed hard, and said that would work too, so for $30 for the hard-start kit, and $75 for the repair call, I once again had a working refrigerator. That was three years ago and it's still going. Case 3. Same Kenmore washer, runaway fill, lucky catch before it flooded. I took a look online at the possible problems and repairs for this condition. I decided that I could throw parts at it, but the parts were potentially more expensive than a service call, so I "just called the man". I called on Friday morning and got a morning appointment for Saturday. The repair person was very polite (a family member told me it was the same man from Case #1). He was there before 8 AM and diagnosed and fixed the problem in about 5 minutes. A hose had come loose from the fill switch, which meant there was no cutoff. He said he sees this happen to about three machines a year (I guess I was just lucky). No new parts, and $75 for the trip charge. At least I can fix it myself next time, and he didn't mind showing me how. All-in-all, they did a fine job completing the repairs and all the repairs stuck. Case #1 reminded me that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as in protect your walls. Case #2 reminded me a little research is your friend and the factory part is not always the best or cheapest part. Case #3 reminded me of the story where the knowledge of what really could go wrong sometimes beats all the online expert resources hands down. I've heard there are a lot of appliance repair scam artists in town, and most of them are at the top of their Yellow Page category listing. You can call these guys without fear of a real ripoff or shoddy repairs that don't last. read more

We LOVED the helpfulness of the office woman and the speed in which someone was able to help us. HATED the price for a bandaid and not a fix. We called Oak Hill Appliance after trying to disconnect our gas stove on our own (we were getting new floors installed the next day) and still smelled gas. We knew we might just be smelling residual gas from the line, but weren't confident the shut off valve was working. The woman on the phone was great. She put us in line for a house call and even tried to help us on the phone. The repairman showed up during that time. We were really thankful they could help us so quickly. Turned out that our instincts were correct- the shut off valve was not really shutting off. He didn't have the part and went to the store. He was gone for over an hour. When he came back, he fixed it right away- KIND OF. He never replaced the faulty valve, he just put a cap on the end of the hose. All in all the house call was about 2 hours and cost us $200 (including the $10 part). We thought that was really steep for something that isn't truly fixed! The shut-off valve still won't shut off correctly since his fix was just to cap it. It helped us get our new floors in on time, but now we still have to have someone come out to really fix the problem. read more

Excellent customer service, knowledgeable staff. I had a broken motor on the ice dispenser on the front of my fridge. I called them and they weren't sure they had the part, but I came on in anyhow, fully expecting that I'd be waiting 2-4 days while it was ordered in. Lucky for me they had one in stock, but it was for another customer's fridge. But....since their repair tech had to do the work, and the repair wasn't scheduled for 3 more days, they sold me the part, ordered a new one for the other customer and I went on my merry way. Out of curiosity, I did google the part later and found that if ordering direct from online I could have had the part a few bucks cheaper, but, I wouldn't have gotten it that day, nor would I have had the expertise of the repair guy confirming my assumption on what was broken. All in all a great place to get your parts from. Can't talk to the repair side of the business. read more

I have a broken Whirlpool dishwasher. I called OHA and they were able to get someone out the next day to take a look at it. I was given a 2 hour window in which the repair guy would show up and he showed up toward the latter bit of that window. He did call ahead of time to give me an ETA. The diagnosed part was in stock at OHA. Joe The Repair Guy gave me an estimate for the repair, about $170 for the part and $100+ (I don't remember the exact number) for labor. I told him I would just get a new dishwasher instead and paid the $75 service call. He said that I could just order the part and put it in myself but I declined. This isn't a great story with a happy ending but as far as I could tell he didn't rip me off; he was on time and he gave me options. read more

Ardie S suggested the place and said, "slow down when you see Big Rack Taxidermy... I'm not kidding this time." Yup, it's close to that place. I had already tried Sears, but I would have had to call and send for a part. I called OHA ahead of time, thinking they closed at 5:00 (it was 4:50), but the gentleman told me he'd be there until 6:00. He was able to tell me that he did in fact have the part I needed. It was quick and easy to walk in and get the part I needed. I really don't want to have to fix more appliances, but if there's some weird part I need, I'm sure I'll head here. read more

The Kilroy family's been doing bidness with OHA since the mid 90's. Back then when money was tight and the appliances got cranky and mean, I'd call OHA and describe the problem. They helped me trouble shoot it, they told me how to fix it, they sold me the parts, and I'd fix it-every time. Okay-let's get to 2012. We had a problem with our fridge. OHA came out, diagnosed, and fixed it. But, because we cheaped out when we bought the thing new, another problem came up within a week. This one was fatal and unrelated to the first incident. We called OHA appliance. They came out, diagnosed the fatal cause, did not charge for the second visit, removed the part from the first repair, sent it back to the manufacturer, and requested a credit. Guess what? We just received a full refund check from OHA for the part. Gotta love the guys and gals at OHA! read more

This company is awesome in my book. We read some of the negative and mediocre reviews so it felt a bit like gambling but needed our dryer repaired and were dealt a good hand. A little background...we have a Kenmore washer & dryer and did not renew the warranty. Sears was relentless with the phone calls to renew the warranty which led me to avoid it altogether. I can't stand people calling and asking me to give them my credit card number and intimate personal details when they can't even be take the time pronounce my name correctly. Needless to say, the dryer quit drying as soon as the warranty expired and we were planning a move to a new home all at the same time. The Wifey called Sears and they were gracious enough to give us a repair appointment in a few weeks...geez thanks for allowing me to give you my money when it's convenient for you. Here comes Oak Hill Appliance to save the day. The Wifey called them and they were able to schedule an appointment for the next day, which happened to be Saturday. Jackpot! The service technician arrived at the tail end of the appointment window but knew his way around our appliance. He figured out the issue right away and was able to repair it lickety split. He was a knowledgeable, courteous, clean (important for an OCD household), and downright South Austin friendly. The only downsides were the huge appointment window and the trip charge was on the high side (of course we have nothing to compare it to so it may have been moderate). These are minor issues in return for the excellent, friendly, down-home service. Heck yeah I will use them again!!! read more

Hire these folks! We have been customers of Oak Hill Appliance for a number of years now, and always come back to them for our appliance repair needs. They're the easiest in the world to talk to and work with, prompt in their return calls, do excellent work and steer you in the right direction if your stuff is just too darn old to fix! Today was no exception in their service delivery. I have an upright freezer that quit on me, called the office for service, talked about its age and its parts availability, discussed my options, and then waited for a call by the serviceman to discuss further. Received a call a very short time later and got some troubleshooting tips to try before deciding on whether a service call was actually needed. He gave me time to run through the list, we settled on a time to reconnect afterwards if needed, I followed all the suggestions, including trying different outlets, making sure power wasn't in line with a ground fault breaker, what to look for when power is restored, and lo and behold, the old upright freezer cranked right back up! These folks have always been truthful and fair with us , and this time they talked me through 'fixing' my own freezer with troubleshooting tips over the phone, and didn't charge me a thing!
