What a lovely getaway from the city. Just 2 hrs away from LA-- Oak Knoll Lodge is a hidden gem that's not on a main road (can't hear cars), but within walking distance from trails, picnic areas and snow sledding spots ! Only 10-15 min walk into town if you need groceries etc. The cabin itself was comfortable with thoughtful touches. Ours was cabin 5 with a kitchen and all the things you need to 'cook at home'. The front and back porch was a great spot to just look at all the snow still on the ground. Easy socially distanced/contactless check in, free convenient parking. The cabins are all stand alone units with adequate privacy. We burned fire logs the whole time :) We will definitely be back to escape the city soon. I don't enjoy writing bad reviews, but this one needs to go out. My brother and I planned a reunion 9 months in advance with activities for our 48 family members. It was to culminate with going to Oak Knoll Lodge, our family's traditional vacation spot when we grew up. We used to spend a week there swimming in the pool with a slide, playing shuffleboard, horseshoes, ping pong and going into town for some shopping and hiking. We booked the entire lodge for 3 nights including one night free for booking 2 nights. We were excited to experience the Oak Knoll Lodge with our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I should have known there was a problem when I tried to confirm the booking a month in advance and the phone number on the website was not answered with no mailbox having been set up. After many attempts I finally got thru to someone who was representing the new owner. They told me our reservation was there, but only for 2 nights so I added the 3rd night for an increased cost. I paid over $5,000 for the 50% deposit. On the day of arrival some of my family members got there early but could not check in without me or my brother being there. Then my daughter called to tell me the pool was empty and there was nobody in the lodge, just a sign to call a different lodge to check in at. I was upset, because with the temperatures topping at 80 degrees the pool was essential for a good time. I called the phone number, and the representative could not give me any information other than the pool was not available. She refused to give me the name or number of the owner and only the first name of the manager, no number to call. She did have the manager call me and then he had the owner call me who said the pool had an issue 3 days ago. I asked why I wasn't told about this, and he said it wasn't his fault it was not working. He then wouldn't let my people check in without us first making payment in full. I eventually got him to let my people check in and he agreed to give me a 25% discount and the use of another pool at another lodge. When my family finally checked in, there were no amenities. No shuffleboard, no horseshoes, no pool and the only ping pong table was in the office that had nobody working there. Many of the cabins were dirty without working stoves, microwaves or refrigerators. There were even mouse droppings in the beds, bowls and flooring. Some of the cabins were missing bedding, pillows, utensils... Because of the missing amenities, unsanitary condition and poor maintenance of the cabins we refused to pay the balance of what we owed and the owner, Ken, then refused to let us use the ping pong table or main lodge area during our stay. The pool he promised to let us use at a lodge over a mile away was small, no slide, dirty, seating for only 5 people and no water in it. The pool at Oak Knoll Lodge, we later found out, had not been used or working for a long time. When I told Ken about all the problems and our unwillingness to pay the balance, I never heard back from him, the manager or the check in person although someone did send a person to clean the rat droppings. We ended up having to pay an extra $4,000 to give my family other activities to do which included the Alpine Slide entertainment area and the Lodge at Big Bear with a working pool that would keep them cool and have fun to finish what was supposed to be our first ever epic reunion. The reunion ended up great no thanks to the poorly managed and laughably inadequate accommodations at the Oak Knoll Lodge. Do not stay here. The carpet is disgusting. There was a cloud of dust when we sat on the couch. The bathrooms are sketchy. It was nothing like the pictures on the website. No air conditioning so it is horribly hot during the day. The windows are small with no fans so the cabin didn't cool off. The stove and microwave don't work so we can't cook dinner. Our cabin has dirty silverware but no pans. My sister's cabin has pans but no silverware. We have dishes but they look like a mix of a bunch of random dishes people have left here over the years. There is a really small coffee pot with a random stack of filters not in plastic or in a box that were dusty even in the cupboard. The office is not staffed and the property manager promised that the housekeeper put on fresh sheets "right before her eyes" but that is hard to believe. There are no paths anywhere just uneven ground so most of us have tripped. I fell and scraped up my arm. read more

Our family's stay at Oak Knoll Lodge was a great experience. The manager, I believe his name was Wyatt, was super cool. Check in was a breeze. He gave me some local tips and even helped clear some snow from our parking area. I saw the new owner too and she greeted us with a friendly welcome. The office offered shovels and sleds for use while staying. Our cabin was cabin #4. A one bedroom cabin that sleeps about 6, with two queen beds in the bedroom and fold down futon couch in the living room. The cabin was a bit dated but had the comforts for a mountain cabin stay. A fireplace, tv, wifi, and a well equipped kitchen made our stay comfy in the snow. Stove, microwave, full size fridge, coffee maker, pots and pans, glasses, plates and utensils and a nice large table. The bathroom is a bit small for 6 but we did fine. This cabin had a great view in the rear and a perfect hill for sledding. We even used the volleyball court in the snow. The SB Forest is also across the street for even more great snow play or hiking. Bring your own food and firewood. This lodge actually has about a dozen individual cabins with varied sizes and accommodations from couples to families. It's off the main HWY 18 so you don't hear the traffic passing by all day, but close enough to walk to nearby businesses. You can actually walk to the Alpine Slide and a market on HWY 18. Also a quick drive to Big Bear Village for shops and restaurants. I would come back in winter for more snow fun, and summer to check out the pool fun. read more

This was our third time staying here, but our first time under their new management. Oak Knoll Lodge used to be our favorite place to stay up in Big Bear but not anymore. The cabin was filthy. Our 1 year olds socks were black by the time our one night trip was over. She kept bringing us things she'd found on the floor that could've easily gone in her mouth! Our cabin was freezing when we checked in (in /around 35° weather it was 47° inside) and the heater was in the living room so we had to leave the bedroom door open if we wanted it to heat! They had a space heater that was labeled "Does not work correct" that we attempted to use but that would only run on low, so it was pretty useless to heat up our room. Our bathroom heater/fan didn't work because the coil had fallen, and we had NO hot water to do dishes or shower or even wash our hands. We also were not given toilet paper nor hand soap nor a sponge to wash our dishes. Their office constantly had a "we're out right now" sign on it, so if we needed anything we had to call and wait for them to show up from wherever they were in town. The furniture was also oddly moved around and all of the lamps were unplugged which was just weird. We will unfortunately be looking for other lodging options next time we come up as this place is not what it used to be! read more

This is the most disgusting stay I have ever experienced. It is dirty and the faulty construction is ridiculous. There is 1x3 used as baseboards, walls half painted, dirty walls doors and baseboards, light fixtures that look as if they have never been cleaned. There were cobwebs in the kitchen ceiling. The throw pillows are filthy. There was a roach that crawled across the floor. The bathrooms were gross and zero to little water pressure. I would not recommend any person I know to stay here even for free, let alone for almost 500 dollars a night. We stayed in cabin #9. I've stayed at Oak Knoll Lodge twice, once pre-2015 and once recently in 2021. In that time, the interiors have been updated but the exterior is a bit in disarray. First, the good. These mini cabins are perfect for a 2-person getaway when you don't need an entire house. Each cabin has everything you need from cooking to jacuzzi (in some rooms) to just lounging in front of the tv. In pandemic times it's especially nice to have a mini kitchen to cook out of, so that one does not have to rely on restaurants. The kitchen was well appointed with everything we needed -- dishes, utensils, microwave, stove, oven, fridge, and coffeemaker. The location is within walking distance to the Pineknot hiking trail, as well as to some local stores. The bad: the exterior seems to be in remodeling stage and there are piles of junk everywhere, including the lobby. It doesn't look like regular construction materials, but like, hoarder junk. The lobby and lodge are completely closed and looks like your creepy neighbor's garage. The pool area looks like it has not been updated for years. And there is a general store that is supposedly being made for a reality show. There is some rebranding going on, but it's not necessarily at the benefit of the guests, unfortunately. I understand that shared space is not necessarily a priority during these times, but the pricing should be marked down if parts of the grounds are not in use. I love that the Oak Knoll is evolving, I just hope it gets out of this transitional phase, for the sake of its current guests. read more

Very bad experience!! First they never sent me the check in information so my family waiting outside the cabin for an hour before we could reach anyone. Called several numbers and kept getting the voice mail including the emergency number. So we didn't get into our room until an hour after arrival, annoying. They said I didn't complete the contract which is incorrect because I have a confirmation. I requested a later checkout and they refused. My contract said 11:00 but they insisted I leave at 10:00 because this time of year is busy. What ever happened to great customer service. Awful. After having a reservation they decided to send me an additional contract for cleaning fees. If I wanted cleaning fees I would have booked an AIrBNB. Additionally like others said the place was dirty. Sofa was stained and I didn't want to sit on it. The additional comforter was dirty and stained and I refused to use. They might refuse to acknowledge my stay like others but let me include pictures. Talk about bait and switch I would stay clear. read more

Bottom line, as of July 1st 2021 the website intentionally misrepresents the actual condition and amenities of the property. If you want to stay somewhere that feels like someone started a hobby and then completely gave up, but still wants your money, read no further and book now. The location is good, but not great. It's quiet, you can walk across the street to a nice picnic area and trailhead, and you're just a few minutes from the lake and town by car. The cabins are spaced out. Furnishings were adequate and the beds and sofa were in good condition. We had clean linens, and aside from old spiderwebs (and some actual spiders) the inside was clean. Other than that, not much good to say. I have had better accommodations and hospitality from owner-operated vacation rentals. Upon check in we were treated to bugs and old cobwebs in every room. There was also an envelope encouraging us to leave a gratuity for our housekeeper. Outside, our toddler son led us to rusted paint cans (some rusted completely through), a string of collated nails, and some other trash under our deck. The paint was dried out and probably from the last time work was done on cabin #4, which appeared to be some time in the late 90s. Their website specifically says Cabin #4 has been remodeled. I couldn't keep a straight face and call cheap carpet, poorly installed linoleum, a drop-in vanity, and wood wall paneling a remodel. The wood paneling on our ceiling was literally falling down. Peeling paint everywhere. The hot water handle on the tub spun endlessly, and paint was peeling badly in the bathroom. The exhaust fan (or maybe heater) in the bathroom didn't work. The fireplace mantle was scorched, and there were burn marks in the carpet. Several screens were missing from the very old, very squeaky windows, including one in the bedroom. The other screen in the bedroom was ripped, so we couldn't open up the windows to cool the room off at night without letting bugs in. But maybe that was for the best, as beds were furnished with only a sheet and thin comforter--not the nice blanket and comforter staged in their pictures. Recommend bringing your own extra blankets. The entire property looked abandoned. This was amplified by the complete lack of interaction with staff. Someone lives on site, but don't expect any hospitality. Not so much as a "hello" wave. The shuffleboard and horseshoe areas were overgrown and unusable. The entire property was overgrown. We couldn't find the kids' play area or ping-pong table they advertise. But our son enjoyed playing in the water seeping up out of the ground by the tree swings and trashed irrigation parts. The pool, which the website claims to be heated, was about 5 degrees too cold to use. There were plenty of lounge chairs out to enjoy the warm afternoons, and umbrellas if you needed some shade. There was no pool cover in use, which would have mitigated the temperature issue. It looked like the pool was being chemically treated properly. The pool cantina, which is clearly shown open in website photos, was boarded up. There is also no slide as mentioned on the website. The lodge (check in building) is recently renovated and looks beautiful. It's also closed. So is the bar (which is inside the lodge). I can only speculate as to why these are unavailable, as there is no mention of it on their website. There is a small building under construction that looks like a small convenience store. This will be a great addition and they could do good business having the picnic area right across the street. However, it would be nice if they would focus on finishing their actual accommodation cabins before branching out into a side hustle. I thought I had booked three nights/four days, but received a text on our third day (Thursday) at about 1:30 that I was past checkout. I checked my reservation and sure enough I had only booked two nights. I immediately called the number that texted to ask about adding a third night. I was told that someone was checking in on Saturday so "it's not going to be possible." Even though their reservation portal showed Friday available for "checkout only." I did not want to argue with an employee about giving them an extra $180 to stay in a $50 room, so we quickly packed up and left. There are too many other options in Big Bear. I think we had too high of hopes. Lobby was closed. Who ever answered the door for guests, briefly stepped out ( wearing pajamas in the middle of the day) and then went back in and locked the door. Pool decorations were very nice but the pool itself needs to be cleaned and maintained. The Room had nice small touches like complimentary tea and coffee . However, the big stuff like the heater did not work so the room was freezing in the night and the bed was extremely uncomfortable . My husband and I were unable to sleep the entire night .Also, paint was chipping off the walls in bathroom and random patch ups. I tried resorting to the pullout sofa but there was an enormous spider when we tried setting it up and the extra sheet provided was ripped. We have a toddler and if you have kids you know sleep is vital. With that being said we will not be returning here . The cabin was great, clean, spacious, and in a great location! The Owner, Chuck is onsite and very friendly! The kitchen had a full size fridge, pots, pans, plates, silverware, coffee maker, toaster, and microwave. Just make sure to bring cooking oil or butter for cooking on the pans and papertowels/napkins. The water gets hot fast, the bathrooms are stocked with all you need, and the bedrooms have extra blankets. The heaters work quickly, there's direct TV, and they put a camp fire on every night at 6pm. I would come back again! The price was very affordable! read more

Disclaimer: We were booked into this cabin by the surprise travel agency "Pack Up & Go" so we had no expectations, since we didn't even know we would be staying here. Thus, I knew nothing about the reality show, nor was this a property I booked by choosing it myself. That being said, the travel agency did give us exactly what we said we preferred -- a property away from the crowds, in a natural setting, near outdoor activities. However, the national forest was closed due to wildfire dangers, so all of our planned hiking was squashed and we ended up going in to town more than we had expected. This property is perfectly situated for outdoor activities, though, and I guess for snow activities, too, which we don't do. So yeah, Covid, I get it -- the front office was "contactless" and they had phone numbers posted if we needed anything. We never called the phone numbers, so I can't speak to whether the staff was helpful. We had never visited this area; usually it's nice to rely on lodging staff to give recommendations etc. so the complete lack of staff was unnerving. Our room was not serviced during our stay but IDK if it was supposed to be. It just felt creepy to not have any staff in sight. The lobby looked beautifully renovated, but it was locked up tight. There was nobody else staying here, until on Saturday we think another cabin checked in. I mean.. just weird, creepy. Our cabin looked like it had been recently renovated, but maybe 80% completion -- mildly dirty, blinds that didn't fit or not installed correctly, fixtures that were definitely decades old. We never did get the gas fireplace to work, and there didn't seem to be working heat in the cabin. Luckily it was not cold in mid-September, or we definitely would have called about the heat. Jacuzzi did work and we liked that. Hot water was abundant. We liked having a full kitchen and fridge. I can see how convenient that would be if you didn't want to go in to town. We liked the location and the cabin, but there were several other lodging choices on the same road that who knows, we might have liked better, and who knows, there might have been actual inn-keepers available to make us feel more welcomed. Just stayed here for 4th of July weekend and all that comes to mind is False Advertising. If you go to their website you'll see it says there's a bar and a pool. There is NO bar and the pool didn't even have water in it. It's summer time and the pool is unavailable. I stayed here this past week and upon arriving the place looked empty except for some young women who was stacking junk on the deck behind our room. We had a contactless arrival and the key was in the door of our room like it said it would be. I was a little worried about going in since the lodge grounds looked so desheveled but, upon entering our room it was clean and tidy. My problem with the place is that after checking out and arriving home my husband got an email for a pet charge. We immediately called the lodge and we're confused not only did the say we brought a pet they said it was a cat. We don't have a cat. They even said they found cat toys and kitty litter? Oak knoll Lodge and Cabins has my heart. I went on a retreat with a few girlfriends and rented out one of the larger cabins, it fit us perfectly, I love that it had a full kitchen so we cooked quite a bit and saved us a lot of money from eating out. Not only was the cabin super cosy, warm and comfortable the new owner and staff went above and beyond to help us. On one of the days our car was stuck in some snow and they got right in and started shoveling around and pushing the car to get out. They also lent us some snow sleds for free and even join us a bit in sledding down the hills around the lodge We left with nothing but amazing feelings for the place and the people. In preparation for a snowboarding weekend away at Big Bear Lake I did a lot of searching for an affordable, comfortable, and NICE place. For a two night stay my boyfriend and I got a small cozy cabin at this property. The first night was $69 and the second night was $99. Hotel rooms in the area were more expensive! The owner was super nice, and helped us with getting fire wood for the fireplace.. The place we had was cabin #12. Queen bed, bathroom, kitchen, and not to mention a porch. Although. . . it maybe wasn't the best idea hanging out on the porch in 30 degree weather. This is a great place! It's on the outer side of town, about 4 miles away from Bear Mountain. As we were coming into town I saw some of the other more expensive places I had researched as "cabins". They looked like dumpy motels, Oak Knoll Lodges ARE actual cabins. Again, cozy affordable and nice place to stay :) I'm still excited about it! read more

We've been trying to plan a trip to OKL for the past few years and finally our wishes came true this weekend! The clouds were dark & heavy and my chains were on while we eagerly treaded thru the snow to get to the lodge. Chuck welcomed us like we were cousins coming over for Christmas dinner! The cabin we stayed in for 2 nights was perfect! Warm & cozy with hot water practically on demand! The kids played in the little playground between cabins 7 & 8 then made their own sledding trails right out the kitchen door so we never had to leave (except to get more food). My favorite thing about this place is that it s not so far into town. Its close enough to still get to wherever you want to go, but secluded off the main highway to still offer a serene getaway. I swear you'll feel like a local while you are tucked away in this hidden gem! The Oak Knoll Lodge and Cabins are located right across the street from a great hiking trail and minutes (without traffic) from town. The cabins make a great base camp for adventures in the area but are removed from the busy main street and foot traffic. The condition of the cabins are acceptable. The furniture and appliances are new and in good repair. Our cabin looked recently remodeled. The staff is friendly, easy to reach and helpful. The rates seemed reasonable. When we arrived the cabin wasn't completely clean. There were ashes in the fireplace, the carpet wasn't vacuumed and the toilet was dirty. The staff said they would fix it but no one showed for the rest of our stay to fix these items we mentioned. Noise from other cabins was an issue. We didn't see signs or lists of rules posted around the property regarding quiet hours or prohibited behavior. The cabins are undergoing a major renovation of the property at this time. Our experience might reflect management's energy being devoted to this project. Overall acceptable, but with so many other cabin options in the area, the Oak Knoll wouldn't be my first choice. read more

It's only our first night but so far it's great! We originally rented a studio but upon arrival asked if we could upgrade as we have our 14month old with us and they were able to get us in a 2 bedroom. It's super cute and quaint, nice and quiet, I love that it's away from all the traffic. The owners were all really sweet and we were greeted by some cute pups too which made my little guys day. It has a nice patio, lounge chairs couches and Tv, and pots and pans too. We look forward to seeing how the night goes. Little man had to check out the pool and have loved it so far. Definitely recommend. We are in cabin 11. Will definitely update after the weekend. read more

I have been emailing and calling them for DAYS. They never pick up their phone and they haven't even bothered to call me back or respond to my emails. Is this place even open?????? I was going to book with them, but it's pretty sketchy when they don't pick up their phone for days, so I will be choosing another place. read more

It was our anniversary weekend and my Husband and I both took time off work to spend a weekend away from the city. I looked a a bunch of different places, like AirBnB, but couldn't find a place that I felt like I could trust. Then, I found Oak Knoll Lodge. It's off the main road, so no traffic noise. The cabins have a lot of room between them so you don't feel as if you're being crowded. It's a very near drive to the downtown Big Bear village, lots of places to eat and shop close by. I found our cabin, Cabin #2, so charming and comfortable. We had a fire place, a kitchenette, and a jacuzzi bathtub. It was the best place to unplug and enjoy the mountains. Unfortunately, we had to leave a day early due to our pet sitter having a family emergency. Lindsey was so understanding and accommodating. Also, the lodge is being renovated and my husband and I can't wait to see the improvements next year when we book this place for our vacation again. read more

We loved our stay at Oak knoll lodge. The cabins are charming, clean, and nicely updated. The bed was comfy. The lodge is set back in a quiet area away from the main road. Sitting on the back porch of our cabin felt like our own little oasis in Big Bear. We look forward to staying here again. read more
