On the way to the vineyards
    Katherine V.

The vineyard is beautiful and the view is gorgeous. It's one of those places you bring relatives visiting from out of town so you can show off how amazing Oregon is. It's also one of those places where you think to yourself, "Hey, I should get married here". But...they don't do weddings anymore. Something about legal reasons due to being so rural? The internet says otherwise but you know what they say about believing things you find online. Anyways... We used a Groupon deal ($22 for a picnic worth $40). I'm not sure I would have paid $40 for the picnic, but $22 was a decent price. We made a reservation and upon arrival were presented with three picnic options: chicken, beef, or grilled veggies. We opted for the beef and then decided to share a pinot tasting flight ($10 for 5 tastes). The tastes were fairly small and I felt as though they were not at all worth $10. Yes, some of the wines were good, but it was a bit pricey for those small tastings. Lying on the outside day bed and looking off into the distance of the Oregon hills made up for this. About 30 minutes after we arrived we went up to grab our last tasting and our picnic was ready. It was perfect for a picnic at a vineyard! Everything was tasty and fresh. I loved the caprese salad and fresh pesto. The beef was perfectly marinated and cooked to a delicious medium rare. Loved it! There was also live music on the Sunday afternoon that we were there. I would love to come back and enjoy another picnic at sunset with wine and friends and music. It would be lovely and I'm sure I'll be back.

Garden Vineyards is a hidden paradise in Hillsboro. Just 15 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Cornell Blvd, it is a quiet and secluded spot that is perfect if you just want to get away for a day but feel like you're hours away. We found Garden Vineyards through a Living Social deal for their picnic basket. They allow outside food, but wine has to be purchased on site. They do wine tastings and you can opt to buy bottles of wine. Since the weather was so nice, we didnt get a chance to take a look inside the main building, but when we walked around the grounds, I was amazed by how expansive area is. There are day beds, hammocks, tables (large/small) and gazebos for you to enjoy the views while siping on delicious wine, all while providing decent privacy. I will definitely try to make a trip back before the rain comes.

I had been here for Mother's Day brunch a few years ago, and this time I came here with some of my friends for their summer festival with picnic. The place is very pretty and has a stunning view of the hills. It's just so relaxing. We picked up a bottle of Rosé (it was pretty good!) when we ordered our meals. They had only bottles for wine purchase and some beers and sparkling juices. I wished they'd had an option to buy them by glass, and for $20 price it would've been better that juice, coffee or tea were included. Anyway, we all enjoyed it, and I would love to come back for another occasion!

I visited here with 14 of my best girlfriends last weekend and we had a BLAST! The view was amazing, and the wine was so tasty! Most of us did tastings, and then we purchased a few bottles to share. We found a comfy spot with a hammock to enjoy the view, the wine, and the company. I would highly recommend visiting this winery!

We've been here so many times for their picnic lunch, picnic basket deals, and wine tasting. Must RSVP ahead of time for the food. Food is mostly homemade from their farm and garden. Very delicious and elegant. This place is beautiful, relaxing, and peaceful. Best to come here during the day. They have public events going on weekend nights as well. We joined the wine club, because we absolutely love their wines and got 20% off wine bottles. Our favorite is the Sangria wine, full of spices of cinnamon and nutmeg! Perfect for the fall season. Wine tasting $10 for a flight of 5 wines, a little shorthanded, but you can walk around and enjoy the scenery. Very lovely visit!

This is one vineyard that's a short drive, and not very difficult to get to for being located in Cornelius. No long and windy roads is what I'm implying. An easy vineyard you can show out-of-town guest what Oregon wines are all about. I feel this would be a quick treat for them. Even after work, just to relax with a glass and charcuterie board, we've been here! ~ The Views (or a view) ~ If you've seen the yelp pics on the views, then that's exactly all you'll get. You can chill inside for a tasting or out on the patio while enjoying an excellent view of the vineyard. On a clear sunny day, you can see Mt Hood in the background. Down below the patio, at vineyard-level, there are a few wooden beach chairs and picnic tables as well. It's relaxing wherever you choose really, to say the least. ~ Reds, Whites, and You ~ If you're looking for a white chard that's not too sweet, then this is your place! Their wines are simple enough to enjoy. I don't recall having a bad pour. But like practically every vineyard in Oregon, they too serve pinot noirs. I personally have more of an earthy pallet, so I do not have a taste for pinot gris or rieslings, but theirs I did admire. You'll have to try them for yourself. Again, I believe all their variations can satisfy anyone's pallet. ~ Owners, Staff, and Service ~ At one of the member events, we did get the opportunity to meet the owners, and their pup. All of them really down-to-earth people in my opinion. But I would like to give credit to Mach and Melissa as well. These two hustle! Not for you to just purchase their wines and join the club, but they're attentive on what you'd be interested in. Thank your Mach and Melissa for your generous and friendly hospitality. We've had questions, they've had answers. This little winery just gives you everything you'd expect from a winery. Case and point!

(I am officially an adult!) They make great chardonnay and pinot and rosé and usually feature a guest winemaker. I'm always pleasantly surprised by things I normally don't prefer eg Riesling or merlot. It's all good! Tastings are casual and unpretentious affairs, dog- and kid-friendly! There's seating inside the house, tables outside for nice weather, and you can bring snacks and picnic. The price of the tasting is waived if you buy wine; their bottles run in the $20-30 range (with a discount for club members). Highly recommend a visit! We made a reservation in advance and were really looking forward to visiting this winery,…read moreespecially since we had brought my parents from far away for what we hoped would be a memorable experience. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite disappointing. While some members of our group were doing the wine tasting, the rest of us were not allowed to order wine and had to wait until the tasting was finished. It didn't make sense that we couldn't simply enjoy a glass of wine while waiting. It was quite cold outside, so we asked if we could move indoors. We were told that the indoor tables were reserved, and instead we were offered blankets. Although we appreciated the gesture, it wasn't a comfortable solution given the weather. We had booked the 2:00 p.m. reservation (the online booking only offered 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. time slots), but by 3:00 p.m. our tasting had to be wrapped up. If reservations are limited to one hour, that should be made much clearer during the booking process. To make matters worse, the wine we were most looking forward to tasting was never served. It was only after we asked about it that we were told it had sold out. This is something that should have been communicated before the tasting began, not after we noticed it was missing. We came a long way hoping to share a special winery experience with my parents, but poor communication and the way the experience was managed made the visit far less enjoyable than we had expected. I hope the winery improves its communication and reservation process so future guests have a better experience.

We have tasted at wineries all across California and Oregon (relaxed all the way to fancy), and we tend to prefer places like Oak Knoll. It just feels like everyone is welcome, we get to pick which wines we want to taste, and there's a bottle of something for every preference. $15 for 6 2-ish oz pours and there were more than 12 wines available, so my husband and I each made our picks with only 1 overlap and got to try most of the offerings. We stock all kinds of wine in the house: red, white, bold, dry, sweet, earthy, blackberry, and more. We bought a bottle of the white blend and twilight blush because they were delightful and flavors we felt were missing from our cabinet. I see us stopping by a couple of times a year for an easy afternoon date to get some fresh air, sip a variety of wines, talk and decompress, and still have enough money to take home a bottle or two without breaking the bank.
