Pleasantly by the great vegan brunch options here! I am not vegan but am exploring options to eat a bit more sustainably after seeing some eye-opening documentaries about the fishing and cattle industries. I had the vegan "chicken" and waffles- everyone at the table tried the lentil based chicken strips and agreed they taste just like chicken tenders and we would happily have them again. Whipped coffee was also really good (both in the spiked cloud 9 version and the regular version). It tasted truly like whipped up espresso, not whipped cream with espresso dusted on it. I have been here twice, and I would go back in a crunch because there are not a lot of non beef burger options nearby. That said this place is expensive. Both times I've ordered a veggie burger. It's $18.50 before tax. It is a decent tasting burger, but with frozen fries (doesn't appear to be fresh hand cut). I got full and was satisfied, mostly because of the mass amount of fries served with my burger. Currently, if you are not dining in you have to call when you get there to pick up your order. However, no one ever answered. There was nothing on the door to suggest what to do. That said, the staff was outside and friendly and helpful once I inquired. For a place that isn't/doesn't necessarily advertise for vegans, they are really good at making vegan food. I came here earlier in the year (pre-covid) but forgot to leave a review, better late than never lol. I just got off work and it was pretty late, and all of the other vegan spots were closed. Somehow, I found this gem and it didn't disappoint. The ambiance is a typical bar/diner experience. Shelves full of exposed alcohol, seating in tables or booths, and an extended bar up a few steps from the main eating area. The menu is packed with vegan options or items that can be made vegan & gluten-free for those with sensitivity to gluten. Here is the bad part about retroactive reviews, I can't remember which appetizer or Oaktail (there custom cocktails) that I had lol. But I know they were both good because I finished them. I do know I had their Vegan Phish Witch sandwich and it was FUEGO! That was my first time ever having a vegan "seafood" mimicked dish and all of the flavors/textures came together very nicely. Oh and their fries were really good too to go along with it. I believe I had their oak cupcake which was pretty good as well. The main dining area is kid friendly and offers high chairs, but did not see a kids menu (which was fine, because my kiddo eats regular food) or a changing table in the restroom, though there were 2 stalls and I only used 1. Ordered the brussel sprouts as an appetizer, but really could have just eaten 3 full orders of those for a meal, as they were PHENOMENAL. Fried perfectly and super flavorful! I had my first vegan, gluten-free corn dog, which came with 2 dipping sauces. I'm trying to eat less meat and am usually turned off my meat substitutes, but the consistency and flavor of the vegan dog were on point. I wasn't a fan of the sauces, but enjoyed eating them with regular ketchup, which they had available on the table with a few other condiments. Also had an order of battered green beans, that came with ranch. They were lacking in flavor on their own, but the beans themselves seemed pretty fresh, so my kiddo happily enjoyed those for dinner. They have a "happy hour" menu, which consists of some regular menu items, but also items that are only available during happy hour, but NONE of the happy hour food items are discounted. I can never say enough good things about Oak Seattle! From the extremely responsible COVID practices to the quality customer service to the delicious vegan variety of options, this place is one of my favs! For outdoor dining they have an awning and heat lamps and are currently open for reservations! Prior to the indoor dining shutdown, they had only about 4 tables total well beyond 6 feet spaced and you had keep your mask on unless you're eating. Temps were taken, air filtration system, etc. They are really trying their best to survive this in a safe way. Make sure to give them some love! What an awesome place for vegetarians! I'm not sure why it's not tagged with that classification because more than half of the menu is vegetarian and most of the other items could be made vegetarian. I was also impressed with the cocktails, they had their own versions of the classics. We had the Negroni and thought it was great, excited to try others in the future. Vegan California Burger Special: 5/5 - highly recommended. The patty had a 'meaty' texture which I like compared to the soft texture common to veggie patties. Wow, Impressed! At first impression I really loved the decor of the Oak, fun arty vibe and the upstairs has dark nooks, a cool fake fire light and thoughtful seating arrangements for all! The Oak serves craft cocktails, wine and a good selection of tap micro-brews with their dinner menu. My favorite meal to order here so far is the Painted Hills Minimum Wage Burger, which is a delicious medium burger topped with your choice of lettuce, such as arugula and then your choice of toppings, (for extra fees) served with amazing frites! Man, don't miss these Frites! My hubby had the Painted Hills Sloppy Joe which also has been a favorite staple. What is great about this neighborhood joint is they did their homework! Not only do they welcome and serve whole families the full menu and drinks in their all age dining area... A few steps to the back they also welcome adult only (sometimes you don't want your chair kicked by babies) tables at the bar seating as well! Yay! everyone is happy here! I have waiting in anticipation to have The Oak open and have watched it progress weekly after attending my nearby yoga class. Alas! I finally made it here and was excited after reading some yelp reviews. I love, love, love the interior. It reminds me of modern meets oak meets retro. The main entrance offers dining experince for all ages. A nicely decorated chalk board offers the specials of the day which is a good thing to check out as it will not be on the menu. A few steps up, there is a nice bar area with seating around the bar and booths. Menu offers options of burgers, grilled cheese, frittes, dessert, chilli. I was told the menu is still being crafted which will may offer veggie meat options. For my first visit, I of course being a grilled cheese lover, ordered the grilled cheese. They use a smoked cheese which is flavorful and a bit salty. I would order again, but request a tomato or raw onions to help cut down the salt taste. My friend ordered the Minimum Wage Burger which they LOVED! It has a wonderful smoked spicy sauce that adds a great kick. I would even think of requesting it for my grilled cheese! The first thing I thought of when I drove by this place was acorns (the acorn decal) and then squirrels---but no squirrel material inside! I guess the skunk air freshener in the restroom is cool enough. :) SoBeHi (South Beacon Hill) has always been quiet at night---and it still is---until you step into either 1 of 2 bars: Tippe & Drague Alehouse and, this, The Oak. Since a couple weeks ago, I'd say I've been in a few times in the front portion and the back, raised bar (I'm not sure if there's a handicap ramp going up to it). It kind of has a classic, vintage-y, early-modern(?) retro flair to it with clean finishes. The upward focused candescent bulbs give off a neat ambient and soft light in the bar. Lots of old, classic touches throughout you may notice while the flatscreens always keep you in check with reality... and smartphones. The staff I've encountered have always been pleasant, friendly and helpful. Bridgett recommends the Herky's fried chicken sandwich, so if you love those, go for 'em. For the grub, I've tried that, the Minimum Wage Burger and the Overtime Burger: --Herky's Fried Chicken Sandwich = I'm slowly fading away from fried chicken but I wanted to try this one. The breading was a smidge too much for me, but the chicken that lies within was amazing. So warm, tender, moist and chicken-y. For the side, I opted for the side greens with balsamic vinagriette. --Minimum Wage Burger: A good, solid meat sandwich with their unique sauce + the side of fries. It was pretty good. --Overtime Burger: Same as MW, but instead of 1/3, it was 2/3 lb / 2 patties... It was big, it was meaty, it was a massive, messy and moist mess. Have some napkins and finger lickin' on deck. The desserts sound amazing as I believe they make them all in-house. 1 piece serves 2 so far I can tell and the glass hiding them usually has the ingredients listed. Food was a bit salty, possibly because I'm used to cooking at home and refrain from using a lot of salt. How have i not written a review for oak!? This has been a favorite low key restuarant of mine for the past 3 years. I highly suggest their minimum wage burger because it is the bomb.com! The chicken pot pie is good too, a litte on the watery side at time but the flavor is there. TRY the Brussel sprouts because they are life changing. I had to remove one star because the service can be hit or miss. One time we had an attentive server who was bumping 00's r&b hits (Awesome!!) And the next time we had someone who was slow to seat us, slow to take our orders, and slow to give us the check. It's like rolling the dice on service but the food is so worth it! read more

My best friend lives in the area and as soon as we sit at the bar every time we pop in here, the bartender knows what beer to pour for him. The beer is served in libbey can-shaped beer glasses, and they always have Lucille IPA on tap. The food is awesome. They have hand-cut fries served with homemade aioli that's similar to mayo. There are corn nuggets that may not sound appealing, but is a little explosion of melted, warm corn kernels that is surprisingly good. Went here on a Friday evening with a group of friends from school. Oak is not the same as 1Oak the renowned clubs. It is a restaurant that's divided into a separate bar area. They have mostly different burgers and sandwiches. They're known for their pot pie and surprisingly I haven't tried any other pot pie besides the frozen Marie calendars pot pie. I liked my pot pie it came out freshly baked. The crust was baked perfectly. The filling had bits of chicken, potatoes, and peas. Only problem was there was barely any filling inside! Lovely restaurant, with a very unique menu. The appetizers with pita bread were excellent. There were a wide variety of entrees, we enjoyed lamb and chicken and an excellent salad. I ordered online and waited until the pickup time (20mins). When I arrived, there was confusion about it, despite the wait staff being able to confirm my order on their handheld. I waited an additional 30 mins (closer to 40) before I was asking if I should maybe just get a refund and take the L on the dinner. Another several minutes later and the food finally came out. There was almost no one seated out front... no one seated at the bar... no one seated in the main area of the restaurant... and we just ordered 2 burgers and a side... My friend and I stumbled upon Oak when the initial happy hour / dinner spot we wanted to eat it only had bar seating without food service. I'm so glad we found Oak! They have a good happy hour (i got the french 75 and then a beer) and I was pretty impressed by their wide selection of vegan/vegetarian options. I opted for the vegan chicken caesar wrap because I enjoy caesar dressing but often cannot eat it due to the anchovy in it, and it was one of the best wraps I've ever had. I'm usually very skeptical of faux meat (I prefer tofu and really only like impossible) but it was so so good. I was thoroughly surprised. The sauce on the side was also delicious. My husband is also not into faux meat but I ordered one to go for him and he raved about it just like me. I have allergies to gluten, dairy, and eggs, and had the best meal at Oak. The vegan goat cheese on my burger with a dairy-free, egg-free, gluten-free bun made me so happy and was absolutely delicious! They also had a vegan + gluten free corn dog that I loved. Even their iced tea was out of this world as it was completely opaque, bursting with flavor, and seemingly brewed in house or some other craft tea house. UPDATE...when it comes to food, I say you always have to try a place at least twice and twice I did for Oak...they get a one star upgrade here. I finally went back for the burger and it lived up to the hype. I was pleasantly surprised by the flame broiled deliciousness (yes...like 1993 Burger King flame broiled deliciousness). It truly is a rarity (anywhere) to get a real fire grilled burger and they do it perfectly...no five stars because the rest of the menu could still use an upgrade and they seem to short change you on the fries that come with the burger. read more

Started coming here after moving to beacon hill months ago, really was starting to enjoy it. Took my family when they came in town here, started to get to know the staff... seemed cool. Happy to have a bar I could come and hang on a day off down the street and not in Capitol Hill. Now they require proof of vaccination to even sit outdoors. Lmao. I came here for dinner which was pretty disappointing... for some reason I was under the assumption that this was a burger spot? But I must have misunderstood. The food was nothing to write home about. My medium rare burger was well done and the chipotle sauce was no bueno. Also $17 for a thin burger with bacon seems like a lot to me. If it had been a thick burger than I would get it... The front dining room is super uncomfortable but the bar, which I had no idea was there until after my meal (you have to walk through the restaurant to get there) and the staff seem cool. Wanted to give two stars, but since the people we're nice I'll go with three. I actually really enjoy the food here. I wish they would change the menu so we can get other options. The ambiance is fine, it feels like a hole in the wall ambiance, but definitely has a price tag to it. I've been a few times but the last time left me not wanting to come back. The server who was helping us had this "nonchalant " attitude, but was super rude to all the tables around us and to walk up guests. She even got the other servers around her to join in on the mean-girling to the walk up customers. It was awful to see. She didn't mention to us that refills were not free, and maybe I missed it on the menu, but when fountain sodas ended up costing more than meals it definitely feels weird.
