In Keller, TX to attend Milestone Church opening their new building. (great church, if you are in the area, you should go). Came across this charming, wonderful place as I was walking down Oak St. How I wish we had a place like this in California. I can never find chocolate meringue pie. They have it. It was so good, I had to try their lemon meringue two days later. I don't leave until Monday, good chance I will be going back again. Glad my wife won't read this review. As good as the pie is, the staff and owner are the best part of the place. Friendly, kind and hard working. Seriously, go to this place. Roanoke is such a cool little town. Nice little pie shop! Limited menu, but they had what I needed. I ordered ahead and was a little disappointed that my cobbler wasn't ready at the time I had told them I would be there. It was cooked, but it hadn't "set" yet. So they wrapped it to keep it from making a mess in my car, but they said it would make the crust softer. What it did was cause the cobbler to ooze over the top of the crust. Disappointing because they could've just called me to tell me they needed a little more time. MMM key lime pie. Their key lime pie is delicious. My slice melted on the way home so I threw it into freezer and it still tasted great. The pricing is reasonable especially if you suck at making them. This is a must go if you're in the area - and especially if you just finished eating at Babe's. Granny's Cupboard ( new name: Oak St Pie & Candy Co) was a wonderful surprise. We walked out of Babe's Chicken in Roanoke and my wife was craving desert. Babe's as great as it is does not offer desert other than Honey and Biscuits. So my wife saw the word FUDGE and was hooked. Going in the charming little shop, we saw a varirty of candy from the 50's and a very appealing fudge counter. A lemon pie on display was so beautiful I had to ask if it was real and to my surprise it was. We got an assortment of fudges (my favorite was the peanut butter) all very good. Then we were tempted by the Pecan pie and Peach Cobbler. Wife and I shared some of each. The peach cobbler was served in a large soup cup and saucer. Excellant. I think the wife will let me eat at Babe's more often as she always has her mind on dessert. read more

Very impressed with Granny's Cupboard's catering service. I ordered boxed lunches for my managers' meeting, and every single attendee gave a thumbs up on their meals and a resounding "yes" to using Granny's Cupboard for future meetings. The boxed lunches are impressive on content alone (sandwich, chips, side, dessert, condiments, utensils), but factoring in the taste and quality of the food itself takes the entire lunch to the level of "wonderful." Granny does NOT cheap out on portions at all. Everything - meat, cheese, bread, tomatoes - on the sandwich was top-notch, and the tomato-corn side had me wanting to lick the bowl clean. Each box was put together with care - a refreshing change from the quickly thrown-together trays of other delis who cater. So disappointed. Used to love this place, but lately not so much. Bought a piece of cherry pie on Saturday and instead of the whole cherry filling I was expecting, it was filled with nothing but overly sweet gelatinous goop - not a piece of fruit in sight. Last Christmas we bought a cranberry apple and found it not as good as we remembered - neither the filling or the crust. We're wondering if there are new owners or if the "old" owners have started cutting corners and cheapening the product. I hope not. read more

Neat little pie shop next to babes. Has a selection of about 6 pies at a time but once your flavor is gone they are out. They also have cookies and maybe 6 types of fudge. Small seating area but friendly staff. Pies were good and the fudge is good. Cookies we had were a bit dry and they had peanut butter and then two other types like an oatmeal kind and something I'm not sure what it was. No chocolate chip so a bit saddened by that. I recommend giving it a try it's a nice change of pace and the key lime was pretty tasty as was the pumpkin. But no whip cream for the pumpkin :( read more

To date I have had Carol's fudge (peanut butter, snicker, chocolate), oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookies, lemon bars, blackberry cobbler, peach cobbler, apple pie, buttermilk pie, a strawberry rhubarb and a key lime pie! I have def put on a couple lbs, but it's well worth it for these quality goodies all made from scratch! My favorites are her lemon bars and buttermilk pie. read more

Just as I was about to lose hope of finding something truly unique in the "Unique Dining Capital of Texas" (how did Roanoke manage to score this moniker I just don't know), I stumbled onto this gem on Yelp and dragged my man over to have a look. "Ye Ole Fudge, Bake and Candy Shoppe" is the name that popped into my head the moment I stepped into the Oak St Pie & Candy Co. It's a humble storefront that hosts a scant few tables and chairs in the cafe area. I was looking forward to scoring some old fashioned apple, pecan or pumpkin pie, but my attention got immediately sidetracked by a display case full of house-made fudge. After a few samples, I was hooked on the chocolate and the pumpkin nut fudge. My man even had a few superlatives to spare for the peanut butter chocolate fudge. We left with a half pound of fudge, some freshly baked free cookies (thanks to Yelp check-in) and a rare find: (at least in these parts) Chuckles candy. Here's to hoping that Oak St Pie builds up the candy store ambience with a more diverse array of old-time candy sweets (storing them in those glass candy jars would help up the ante). Entered with fudge on brain. Left with 1 pound: 1/4 lb of four flavors: traditional, pb-choco, choc-walnut and mint-choco. Hardest decision was which flavors to get. The orange swirl and strawberry-oreo were very tempting, but will have to be back for those. At $12 a lb, pretty nice pricing given how rich fudge is. And the pies looked super yummy as well. Great little pie and candy shop in a perfect location on Oak Street. I say perfect because the immensely popular neighboring Babe's Chicken Dinner House does not serve dessert. So you can walk a few paces to Oak St. Pie and grab a slice. The shop is small, but does have some seating available to enjoy your treats there. There's a good-sized fudge counter with 8-10 different varieties to choose from. We went with the coconut almond fudge and it was delicious. I believe all fudges are priced around $13 per pound. There's also a very small candy selection, mostly throwback stuff. You can walk a bit farther down Oak and visit Hey Sugar for a really awesome selection of individual and bulk candies. But that's not why you come to Oak St Pie-- right? When I visited, there were not many pies to choose from as options for single slices. I saw peanut butter, pecan, key lime, chocolate creme, and a couple others. The apple, coconut creme and banana creme were all gone. I wish there would have been a better selection but to be fair we were stopping by about an hour after they opened. It's likely they were baking fresh pies in the back for the day. We went with a slice of pecan and a slice of peanut butter for take home. The girl who helped us was super friendly and offered samples of the fudge. The pies were delicious. The pecan was excellent, the flaky crust was to die for. It was just the right amount of sweet with loads of crunchy whole pecans on top. I would highly recommend the pecan pie. The peanut butter wasn't my thing, but the wife loved it. It wasn't overly peanut buttery, which was nice. It had sort of an oreo cookie crust, which I felt like would have worked better with a regular graham cracker crust. And I would have liked melted peanut butter drizzled over the top! Unfortunately they only had a couple of kinds of pie when I came in (banana cream and I think pecan) but they also had berry cobbler, which I had. Holy smokes. This thing was warm and delicious and had that homemade taste that sometimes I'm too lazy or impatient to wait around for in my own kitchen. Normally the best piss around. Tonight though was different. We had family in town and decided to treat everyone. We got 3 pies and a lbs of fudge. If you been here you know that's over a $100.00. The key lime was amazing as my favorite key lime. The lemon was horrible. The filling was the thickest blandness I have ever had. Weirdly hard in the middle. The apple pie we got was super runny like the filling was watered down. Bad enough that other than the key lime no ne of our guests wanted to take free pie home with them. We came here on Pi Day (3.14) which was fun. It was a bummer that they were out of so many different treats because of the high demand of the holiday, we would have loved to have tried more. I got the (last) slice of banana cream pie and it was good. Definitely a different texture of pie I've ever had in the past! It was a huge slice, I was able to eat on it for two days! My husband got the key lime as his beloved cherry was out of stock, he enjoyed it but definitely is still craving cherry! Lol. I have tried several flavors, and all have been much better than your typical Christmas time fudge....The other neat thing is they carry some old-school candies. I have only tried one piece of pie, the coconut meringue, and it was very good.... If you visit Oak Street, be sure and try the fudge, even if not a huge fudge fan....my guess is she will have a flavor that will change your mind about fudge!!! The pie here is wonderful! I came in about a couple weeks ago and ordered a couple of pies for a barbecue I was having. The pie isn't the only thing that is good here! The customer service was wonderful I was greeted by Tristan and Bailey I made sure to ask for their names so I could commend them for this review they both had smiles on their faces and were very helpful as it was my first time in and didn't know much about the pies. I ended up buying the blueberry strata and Mexican hot chocolate (both were amazing). Whoever trained these girls is doing something right.
