I've come to Oak Wood Fire Kitchen several times and it's always really good! This is just one of those places you can ALWAYS count on. Service and staff are always friendly, food is always great, the restaurant is always clean and has kind of a chill hipster vibe. I've never been disappointed. They are always consistent. Honestly, I think that's the greatest praise I could give a restaurant. I know that I can recommend the restaurant without worrying that the "recommendee" will be disappointed. I can take local, or out of town friends, and I know they'll really enjoy it! As you might guess from their name, they actually have an oak wood fired oven, which is so cool. Between that oven and the open kitchen (at least partially) it has an open, homey, communal vibe (don't worry, it's not actually communal seating #covid). I've been to the restaurant pre-COVID and during COVID, their consistency remained intact, and they've done great with COVID precautions. Their website describes the restaurant as casual, and I agree with that, but I would add elevated casual. Come in your casual clothes, it'll feel casual and homey, but the food is anything but casual! This isn't your neighborhood Applebee's (nothing against Applebee's), although it is only slightly more expensive than Applebee's. Lol. Their menu has a little bit of everything... Great appetizers, Salads, Pasta, Sandwiches, Pizza and Desserts. Their menu isn't overly large, there's a handful of each type of dish. But honestly, you'll still have a hard time deciding what to get because IT ALL SOUNDS GOOD! I order something different every time I come here, and I've never been disappointed. No one I've ever come with has ever been disappointed either. The last time I went I ordered the WEDGE SALAD. Before you roll your eyes at me, Oak Wood Fire Kitchen does basic dishes really really well, which is harder than it sounds. They don't hide behind 37 different ingredients. It's simple, clean, flavors and ingredients elevated to the very best they can be. My Wedge Salad was on a head and a half, or two, of Romaine (instead of the traditional Iceberg). It also included bacon, tomato, herb buttermilk dressing, gorgonzola, avocado salsa verde for $15. You can also add Steak, Shrimp, or Chicken for an additional cost. It was so refreshing and the addition of the avacado salsa verde was such a fun twist. But again, at the core it was an elevated classic Wedge Salad. I understand that me ranting and raving about a Wedge Salad may seem odd to some, but really the review isn't about the Wedge Salad. Friend suggested we go here for lunch to switch things up. The inside was so pretty! Very nice decor and ambiance, plus the large windows let a lot of natural light in. We shared the ricotta meatballs first ($13) and they were really tasty. I was expecting a meatball with a center of ricotta but it's actually all just mixed together. For myself I got the Dr.Pepe pizza and added pepperoni ($12). Wow the dough is sooo good here! Friend got the chicken sandwich because she read it was in the top 10 of SLC's best chicken sandwiches however she personally rated it #3 out of all the places she's gone to for that. Cute smaller restaurant in a strip mall, but classy and nice inside. A great place to take a date. We were seated immediately, when we were done eating it did seem mostly full. There are "small" plates (appetizers), "large" plates (main courses, and various pizza options. My husband I decided to order three small plates to share. We got the dirty fries, meatballs, and fried cauliflower. The seasoning on the cauliflower was amazing! The dirty fries were really tasty and not overloaded with a sauce or gravy. The meatballs came with a flatbread that was so so good, the meatballs were good but nothing extraordinary. We ordered the skillet cookie with ice cream for dessert, it was a gooey heavenly yummy mess. We got all of that (just had water to drink) for $40. Great friendly service. There are several larger tables that would be good for groups. There are TV's in the restaurant, so not an intimate place, but definitely feels much classier than a sports bar type restaurant. read more

Upon my search on Yelp Oak popped up and after looking at menu choices decided to do take out. When I called to order it was too bad that the menu I looked is not quite the same as the current one. I ordered fried cauliflower, chicken wings, house salad, tomato basil soup, sweetheart pizza, pappardelle and bolognese. I am writing this is bc it's quite impressive! I've moved out of Utah for years and don't quite know where to eat when I'm back in town. So this was so awesome! The price point and quality and quantity are very honest! The foods are very clean looking and tasty! The packaging is very clear. I like the taste tasted like a professional. The ingredients are quality! Took the family here for brunch today on a friends recommendation. Well, thanks Cindy, when you're right, you're right. First impressions: very clean and modern, but not boring. Very hip lighting and wallpaper. Staff was super friendly and inviting, and things seemed smooth considering COVID restraints. We were even seated earlier than expected. Most notably, our server Aaron was just delightful to be around and really made us feel at home. The drinks: If you're hungover, take the bloody. Need something crisp and refreshing, have a Sangria. Going straight to the whisky cabinet, have a sweet and smoky Maple Old Fashioned. You really can't go wrong. Heck, even our DD enjoyed the French press coffee. Now for the meat and potatoes: yes. The potatoes. Those crispy fingerlings from heaven seemingly come with every brunch entree, and a solid handful at that. We'll come back to these later. The chicken and waffles were on par with any that I've ever had (Ive had a lot). The breakfast sandwich will have you skipping lunch (and possibly dinner). But my favorite was the Salmon hash. Blame the cream cheese and lox addiction, perhaps? Just can't say enough. Perfectly cooked salmon, and again, enough fried fingerlings to ensure you soak up every last drop of dill creme fraiche that comes with it. I had high hopes for this place because I'm a big fan of wood fire pizzas, but it was mediocre at best. The hot honey pepperoni is listed as a popular choice but not sure why that is? The honey flavor is barely there and there's nothing hot about it either. The entire pizza is covered in huge pepperoni slices and that only masked the flavor of the cheese. Sometimes less is more!! Very shady staf/management. Picked up 2 take out orders (tipped 5 on one and 10 on the second), food was bland and unmemorable. What was memorable was the extra $50 they charged to my debit card. I called the restaurant and the employee let me know a manager would get back to me shortly... this was in SEPTEMBER. It is now December and I still haven't heard a word from one person there. Stopped here on a Sunday for a quick brunch. No need for reservations if you have less than six in your party. We got there around 10:30am and it's was pretty busy, but only had a 15 min wait. The staff here are SUPER nice and accommodating. I think the owner was there too (not only greet customers), but also ran food out to the tables. Loved their wood fired pizza. Crust was crispy and Sauce was on point, but there was a hint of sweetness on the crust that I'm not used to. Other than that, I had no complaints. Apparently I went here with my family several years ago and then forgot it. I wish I hadn't. It has a great atmosphere and decent sized menu. They're very friendly and helpful, but those are just sides. The best part of course is the food. :) Some reviews are saying it's gone downhill, but I disagree. I think they're fantastic. Unique but delicious pizza choices, we got the Pastor and Southside. The pork belly/thick af bacon looked like it'd taste really fatty, but it was phenomenal. The pineapple and onions complemented it perfectly. (Pastor) The house made sausage on the Southside was superb, the creme fraiche much needed. The mint was a bit odd, but after a few bites it was bright and refreshing. Our kids got the kid pizzas and ate them all up (which is a big deal with my kids-yes, even pizza). With my Italian mamma in town today, we decided to try a newer Italian place located in Draper. With us all wanting something different, we did a trio of some of there more popular dishes: The Margherita, pappardelle, and a steak and Gorgonzola salad. I liked the salad, but the steak was too tough for what medium cooked should be. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, but missed the mark taste wise. Finally, the pizza was extremely average. So much thought and effort is put into every dish. They smoke all there own meat and put the Tender Love & Care into their food that not many are willing to do these days. It really needs more ingredients. Save yourself the time and money, and don't bother with adding chicken to the salad. It was dry and flavorless. The fries looked so good, but the taste didn't match, and they could have been hot when they came out, but they were not. The salmon was a very small portion. Service was pretty bad. We were seated without much wait, but once seated, that's where the wait began. I guess there was confusion about who had our table. We used to dine here 3-4 times a month but after multiple experiences of bad/rude service we've cut back to maybe once a month. I'm actually sitting in the restaurant as I type this and a server named Ashlyn just took the championship trophy for rudest experience yet at Oak. We ordered a spread of too much food as usual, here's what we ordered: - Pepperoni pizza with hot honey - Snap peas in harissa sauce with creme fraiche - The Oak burger - *Special* Open face patty melt with demi glace Woodfire pizzas first of all are my jam, and their dough / execution of this special pie is top notch. The pepperoni pizza was fire, *see pics*, the dough was so chewy and light with a nice char, even the pepperonis got nice and crispy. My sister recommended the burger here though as she is not as much of a pizza fan as myself. Their burgers do not disappoint either, especially their patty melt which is on special right now. The chef Brandon noted inspiration from the big mec burger from Petit Trois down in LA. It is served on their homemade bread with a rich demiglace which took it to the next level, would highly recommend this knife and fork burger. The fire roasted snap peas were great as well, i particularly liked the addition of mint to the dish which balanced the harissa sauce. Another note, they have a great selection of natural wines! I have been looking forever for natural wine, and found it here in SLC of all places. The chef recommended a red, which if you've never had these wines, they're unfiltered and naturally carbonated, slightly sweet. My husband and kids love this place, but it was a huge disappointment tonight. We sat for over 10 minutes before being asked our drink order. Appetizer never came out. The Piri-Piri family chicken dinner is amazing. Not just the price, but the flavor of the Piri-Piri sauce, the salad being high quality greens and their basil soup was exquisite. The bread it comes with was an added bonus I didn't expect and was also delicious. I will say that we needed to make rice in order for my family of 4 adults, one 9 year old and two small children to be able to eat and be satisfied. So keep this in mind. Why not 5 stars? At first glance this place looks awesome and the environment is wonderful. Unfortunately the food falls short. I had the porterhouse chop and my wife the fried chicken sandwich. Both meals came back and the meats were dry, "my mouth feels like the Sahara" -ramsay. The fingerlings that were supposed to be the fried potatoes salad legit had finger prints where someone squishes them before dropping them into the fryer. Once past the presentation they were well cooked and were the highlight of the plate. The stone bread as our appetizer was so-so the dough outside was done but inside it was a little doughy the seasonings were there but didn't seem noticeable. Thankfully they provided balsamic and olive oil so it was great for dipping. As for the server we hardly saw her. Almost 10 minutes to get some water, after which about 15 for bread, 30 minutes later main course. We probably won't be back. Went for a late lunch, after any potential rush. The first impression was from the hostess, who attempted to seat us at a small wall bound 2 top when there were at least 8 open 4 tops. We asked to be seated at a 4 top, to which she agreed with a huge eye roll, no bueno customer service. After that confrontation with arrogance, everything else was excellent. Our server was pleasant and woke to the no straws request, the first Utah server to do so. Kudos to her! We each had pizza, and wow, perfect chewy coal marked crust, top notch ingredients.
