It was horrible. Once you walk in you have an overwhelming smell of mildew. The bathroom was filthy with dripping water on the floor. The food was disgusting!!!!! I had to return my grilled cheese for goodness sakes how do you mess up a grilled cheese. The bread tasted gross it was cooked on a grill that was not cleaned and had the flavor of something unexplainable, and the cheese was imitation. My daughter ordered a baked potato that was hard and flaky. The imitation butter that was on the table would not even melt on the potato. The potato salad was brought out at room temperature. It was not clean the games on the table were filthy also chucks of other people's left over food. The gift store was so disorganized and again felt dirty. We ate there yesterday. The food was just ok, service mediocre at best. We are not likely to return. My husband is disabled, yet we were led to the very back of the place. A very long, painful, unncessary walk as we walked past many empty tables. We noticed that nearly everyone brought to this back room were mobility challenged. What in the world is your reasoning for this? Trying to hide disabled customers? One customer we observed could barely shuffle and was very unstable, holding onto the backs of chairs as he made his way to the table you guided him to. Puke choke avoid at all costs. We were out this way and had just worked and needed to eat before returning to the field. It is worth the extra drive to the next town, we understand this is a one horse town, but you don't have to give half your horse up to the next town just because you don't want to have quality. Three of us went two of us had the buffet. The meat was all dry, they said they weren't putting any more out until it was all gone. Also one of us have the chopped beef sandwich without sauce on the meat. It came with sauce on it and "we are sorry the sauce comes with it and there is nothing we can do" she asked for the waitress to bring a sliced beef sandwich and she said that we would have to buy a second sandwich. No thanks, what we had was terrible anyway. To finish, we asked if two of us could take our desert to go and she said that we couldn't take it togo. We've been coming here for years as it's on the way to or from San Antonio. Our visit today was the first time post-Covid. Not much has changed as far as the food. They still have a decent buffet, all you can eat. It's not bad but not spectacular either. There are several meat choices, veggies, average salad bar, soup, and a couple dessert choices of pudding, jello or cobbler. My issue was the attitude of the employees. I needed a sharp knife to cut the meat off a rib, so my husband asked the hostess as she walked by. She told him to ask our server. Oh wow, I never thought of that! (Sarcasm) If only she'd come by our table. She finally did and I got a knife, but by that point I'd managed to pry the meat off with my butter knife. When we went to pay (you pay at the front desk) the cashier got REALLY PISSY when my husband didn't want to leave a tip on the card. We ALWAYS tip CASH so the server gets the full amount. Then when he asked for change for a $20 bill she blew a gasket. Yelled "OH MY LORD, EVERYONE JUST PUTS IT ON THE CARD!" Then she muttered something about the banks being closed for two days?? Uh no. I've been coming here since I was little on family road trips from Houston to the hill country. You can't go wrong with their DELICIOUS onion rings and chicken fried chicken. Stopped in for lunch while driving to Brenham. The place has 'country charm', take that for what you will. I had a sliced beef sandwich, and it was decent enough. The wife has the smokey turkey sandwich and fries, and said both were very good. The people were nice. I avoided the buffet because I thought I'd eat too much, and I had driving to do. (No food coma for me.) The buffet looked good. There's a gift shop, with various other types of preserves, baked goods, stuffed toys, cook books, etc. It was weird that we waited to be seated, ordered at the table, and then paid up at the front counter. Coming back from a weekend on the Guadalupe, a bunch of us flipped a coin when we got to Schulenburg for lunch (I would have rather gone to Oma's House in New Braunfels, but was over ruled and left to early). between here and Frank's across the highway. You can guess which won, since i am writing this review. I got the buffet, only a dollar or two more than a sandwich and drink and salad, plus i got dessert (which i did not get) and drink. The salad was alright, standard buffet fare, but only choice of dressing is italian, russian, and ranch. Cold potato salad was tasty. They also had baby yukons boiled, but they seemed to be boiled in butter, because that was the overwhelming flavor. The fried chicken was alright, but more fried than chicken. THey had pork ribs, cooked at the wrong temperature for too long, and if smoked, not done well. They had little flavor, maybe why they had BBQ sauce on the side. Perhaps it would be different if not ordered buffet style. The bright spot for me was the sausage and sauerkraut. Not the best, but hot kraut on pork sausage always goes well, it soaked up some of the beer from the prior days. I got some jerky leaving, expensive (half pound for $15, maybe the pound should have been that price. I was not terribly impressed, got turkey jerky...peppery but not that great. I passed through here a second time last week. I ate here a year and half ago and still had fond memories of the turkey sandwich I had had back then. I order the same thing again, along with some pinto beans. I was not dissapointed, and all the memories of the first time came rushing to my mind. It was eating a barbecue turkey sandwich all over again. This was without the barbecue sauce which is on the side. After my meal I ordered a peach cobbler, which was rich and sweet. So nice! One bad thing though, there was a waitress that stood in the middle of the dinning room and yelled at one of the workers. We stopped in on our way to Florida to make our delivery. We chose to have the dinner buffet, but that was a mistake. Being our first time here we were looking forward to some good BBQ. Now for the good, bad and ugly: The good, Gigi our server. Nice and kept our water filled. Answered my questions about the food. On the food side, the chicken soup was tasty and so was the chicken fried pork. The bad, the food was way overcooked!! Half of it I couldn't eat because it was so soggy and overlooked. This also applies to the bread pudding and peach cobbler. Salad bar was so-so. The ugly, nothing was labeled so I wasn't sure exactly what I was eating. For example, the lighting by the food wasn't good so I ended up putting BBQ sauce on my mashed potatoes! I almost mistook the lemon sauce for the bread pudding for soup because it was next to the chicken soup. Luckily I asked what it was. Also, there were flies flying around the food, gross! The veggies had turned to mush and I had to spit them out! The reality is that if the food wasn't so overlooked, it would be a pretty good place to eat minus the flies. read more

Can not thank these folks enough! Our El Paso Rhinos have been affected by this storm in their latest road trip. The storm and treacherous travels landed them in Schulenburg, Tx for the night. Thanks to the angels from Oakridge Smokehouse restaurant!! Not only were they closed (as well as all the other food places)they so graciously and willingly offered to head out in the frigid cold to prepare food for our Rhinos and staff. Stopped by here on my way back from a camping trip this morning. There was a group of 8 of us and they were more than accommodating. The food was pretty good, the service was excellent. They had the breakfast buffet out until 11:00 AM or so, then they switched the buffet to lunch service which included ribs, potatoes, corn on the cob, turkey and such. Good stuff. My only gripe is that they pulled the breakfast buffet away without telling anyone that was coming in that the eggs, hash browns, bacon, biscuits, etc was about to be pulled away, so I wasn't able to get breakfast food on my second pass through the buffet (I usually only get a sampling per pass of certain things). That's ok, I *guess* ribs will have to do! What's weird about this place is that the windows aren't straight and the place has a concave roof. Made me thing Tim Burton designed it or something. Not sure what the other person that couldn't get food to-go was having a problem with, we were able to take the food to-go with no problem (except the buffet selections, obviously). It looks like the main draw here is a buffet that features things like fried fish and fried chicken, salad and some vegetables. I didn't order the buffet but it looked like every other diner did. I ordered a smoked turkey sandwich from the menu. Being that this place calls itself a smokehouse, I was expecting the turkey to be actual smoked turkey meat. I was more than dismayed and surprised to find that the meat was actually like packaged sliced turkey breast that you get from the grocery store. The service was also astonishing - I asked for a high chair and the server offered me one that was clearly broken, with part of the wooden seat missing and other slats out of place. The server said she'd find another when I refused the broken one and, in the meantime while she was away presumably looking for another seat, another server came over to offer the same broken up high chair to me. where do I start? for the price they charge, the buffet is very limited....the taste is just okay, nothing to write home about ....I'm not a great cook, but I think I could make the food just as good if not better....and they seem to wait until almost the last piece is gone, before they bring out a fresh supply...so, we ended up picking through the food for pieces that no one else wanted....even the apple crumble (I'm sure that's what it was) had lots of crust left but the apple filling was all gone; but no, they were going to wait until someone ate all the crust before they would bring more out...ice cream would go great with that dessert (it's not expensive if you buy it by bulk) and for that $$$, they should offer it.....my advice:save your money and spend it somewhere else...even head 22 miles down I-10 to Schobel's buffet.... you'll thank yourself later! read more

Been here half a dozen times throughout the past year. Never left hungry. Sometimes if you come in between lunch and dinner the food will not be super fresh but that's expected from a buffet. Otherwise the food is always very good. Emphasis on VERY good. Ribs are excellent, the fried chicken is bomb, REAL mashed potatoes perfectly cooked veggies lots of other stuff, pretty well balanced salad bar and good chicken noodle soup as well. When driving in between Houston and SA this is a usual stop for me. Plus the store there has good cheese/jerky and my wife loves the candles they sell here. read more
