I was really pleased wth the service I got here. I took in a Gucci chain to get the clasp replaced, and they charged me $10 to solder on the new clasp. The guy who helped me said that soldering the links (rather than just crimping them together) would make the chain sturdier. He also explained some other things about the care of silver jewelry. Also, this jewelry store had a nice feeling inside.... a lot of jewelry stores feel like funeral parlours and the staff are too serious. The staff here was friendly and professional. As I sit here on the morning of Thanksgiving, I can't help but think that I'm thankful for honest, kind, and local businesses like this one. And for YELP, as that is where I found them thanks to all of the other rave reviews! It started this past Saturday, when I called Oak's to get a ball park quote on the replacement of a very small diamond stone in my pave platinum wedding band. I've lost several stones over the last 7 years, and each time it has cost between 150-180 to replace, as I've been told the labor is extensive on platinum pave. Despite the expense, I love the ring, and can't imagine trading it in for something else at this point. After having stopped by another Jeweler in El Cerrito Plaza, who quoted me $200 for the job and tried to convince me to just trade in the ring with him for an upgrade if that sounded like too much to spend (which it did!). He told me that even if he replaced the stone, there'd be no way to guarantee it wouldn't keep happening. He didn't offer any other solutions and said pave wasn't a good choice for an everyday wedding band, so I decided to shop around. I ended up speaking with Jeff at Oaks, who spent at least 10 minutes on the phone with me explaining why pave is less stable than other settings, and how despite this, he'd be happy to take a look in person and assured me that he could likely replace the stone for far less than the $200 I'd been quoted by the other store. In fact, based on my description of the ring, he thought it would be around $125. He explained that if I got the ring there on Saturday, he'd be hand delivering it on Monday to the jeweler they've been using for 30 years (they do some repairs in house, but more detailed work like mine, they'd outsource), and then he'd have it for the week, and I'd get it the following Monday. His kindness and patience on the phone, and his ability to answer all of my questions, convinced me to go over there that afternoon. When I arrived, I asked for Jeff, and he was even nicer in person! He looked at the ring and explained that the tiny prongs on the edges of the ring were probably being worn away because of the rubbing with my three stone engagement ring. He then suggested that I may want to consider soldering the rings together in the back so that the rubbing stops. I hadn't ever considered this, and was so impressed that instead of trying to sell me a new ring, Jeff was actually trying to present a solution to help me avoid losing more stones in the future. He also confirmed that the job would cost $125, so I was thrilled. I wasn't ready to decide whether I wanted them soldered, but he assured me if I ever want to do that, it wouldn't cost much and would probably help a lot. I left my band, and didn't expect to get it back until after Thanksgiving. He then offered to polish up my engagement ring and inspect it's prongs. Wow what service! He even did my husband's wedding band too, it they both came out looking shiny and new! To my surprise, I got a call on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, saying my ring was ready! They'd only had it for 4 days!!! I couldn't believe I'd get to wear it for the holiday! When I picked it up, Jeff was working with another customer, but still acknowledged me, and reminded me to come back any time if I wanted them soldered. The ring looked brand new again, completely polished up, and sparkling. I couldn't even tell where the missing stone had been! I walked out the door more satisfied and impressed than ever before in any other jewelry store! This is a top class business that cares about its customers and doesn't overcharge! I took in some old pearls to have them re-strung for bridal jewelry. Coleen served me and she had some great ideas. I wanted to have some of the pearls drape down the back of my neck on the outside of the clasp and she figured out how to do this without damaging the delicate mother of pearl clasp. She suggested adding on some smaller pearls at the end to make it more graceful, and it turned out great. Also she removed two of the pearls and made them into ear rings and found some great filigree fittings to give them an antique look. All of the reviews I read before coming here are absolutely true, Oaks Jewelers is the best of the best. I bought my now wife's engagement ring here, and Coleen was super friendly and nice and took the time to show me what all of the color, size, and grade meant on the diamonds. I was very happy working with them and how everything turned out. My wife wanted a slight adjustment to her band after I proposed and Oaks was nice enough to do it for free. They are very dedicated to making sure their customers are 100% satisfied with their purchase even months after they bought it. I didn't buy my watches from Oaks, so my review is only on their ability to change batteries and fix links. I brought in a 15 year old Tag and a pretty standard Seiko to have the batteries replaced and the links on the Seiko fixed / tightened. Upon entering the store, I was promptly greeted by an older woman. This was very nice, since I have been to many jewelery stores where unless you look like you have a lot of money to spend, you might as well be invisible. I told her I wanted to have new batteries put in on both watches and the first thing she told me when she saw my Tag was that they do not pressure test your watch. I don't dive or go in the water with my watch, so this wasn't a problem for me, but I really appreciate how upfront and honest she was about this before she started working on my watch because this could be an issue for some other people. About five minutes later, batteries were changed and the links fixed on one of the watches. Total cost: $14 ($7 each battery). Nice folks, great prices, quick service. I will be returning anytime I need to have a watch battery changed. read more

My watch stopped and they could have sold me a battery, the jeweler look at it and made a small adjustment which fixed the problem, without charge. I'm 8 months pregnant and overnight my finger's swelled so much that it was impossible to remove my wedding ring and band. I came in and was treated incredibly nicely and with a lot of compassion despite my teary state. (With 5x the amount of estrogen in ones body, you'd be crying too if your finger was blue and swollen - just saying!) Yes, the ring and band had to be cut off but the jeweler explained to me how they'd be able to put it back together without hassle for a really fair price ($50. A bit more if it needs to be sized up). They cut off the band and ring for free and I'll be back once the baby is born to have them reassembled. It's so nice to have a family-owned business in the neighborhood with compassionate people. My husband and I have found our jeweler. We'll be back and when we need to make our next big purchase, (hint hint husband.. when baby is born...) we'll definitely come here first. I just got engaged less than two weeks ago and I needed my engagement ring sized. I was so nervous and afraid to leave my ring anywhere because I love it so much, and well... I'm just down right overprotective of it. What girl wouldn't be? Oaks Jewelers is a true family owned and run business and is one of the best kept local secrets. Many friends highly recommended them because they are trustworthy, honest, do impeccable work, are fast, and are the most reasonable priced. I first called to see if I could have it done in house and not sent out. They were so kind, helpful, informative, and they reassured me that they would have no problem doing that for me. I instantly felt so much more comfortable. I went to the store the next morning and was instantly greeted with genuine kindness and willingness to listen to what I needed and wanted. Jeff took the time to explain everything he would do and why. He even said he would check all the diamonds to assure none were loose, and if they were, he would fix that too (free of charge). I left my engagement ring with Jeff without a worry in the world and was called in 2 days to pick it up! It only cost me $25!!! The ring fits perfect! I am beyond please with the results. I love Oaks Jewelers. Everyone is super nice and helpful there. You can tell they have a fan following because it's always busy inside. Staff members devote attention to you no matter how small your purchase is. The staff do not pressure customers and are very helpful. I got my fiancé's wedding band at Oaks Jewelers. It was too small when we got it but the staff at Oaks Jewelers were so nice and accommodating about finding a tungsten wedding band that looked the same but in a different size. I bought a lovely gold chain there for a great price. I've gotten many complements on the chain. I just bought a pearl necklace and bracelet from Oaks as well! I don't feel like I'm being taken advantage of in this jewelry store or that they have a huge mark up. They show you the jewelry catalogs where they get their merchandise and do not make you pay more than that. Oaks has a lovely selection of high end watches as well. I went in here today to fix the clasp on my diamond necklace (so my diamond wouldn't fall off!!). I've had consistently excellent experiences at Oaks Jewelers. I've stopped in a few times for things like a watch band or to have a stone moved to a new ring setting, and every employee I've interacted with has been excellent. The quality I most appreciate about the Oaks staff is that they have not only been very transparent about price, they've also sought to make sure I wasn't paying too much for what I needed. For example, when I came in looking for a watch band to replace one that had snapped, the staffer (I can't recall her name, unfortunately) found a perfect match in their supply, but then, noticing its higher-than-usual price, said "Oh! Let me see if we have something more reasonable for you." I had no idea what a typical price for a watch band was at their store so I would have very easily just bought the band without question had she not flagged its price for me. This was such fantastic and welcome customer service! Oaks is now the first place I go with any jewelry need or question. Every time I go to Oaks Jewelers, I come away shaking my head in amazement at the paltry fees they charge for such fast, courteous, personalized service! Last week, I stopped by with an expensive, favorite necklace that I wanted to hang a little bit higher. Somebody came to help me immediately, as always -- the delightful older gentlemen, with his eyepiece in place. He took plenty of time to understand exactly what I needed, as always. He carefully measured my necklace chain, took out an ancient ruler and measured the exact spot where I wished to have an additional silver clasp ring inserted. He wrote up my ticket in the customary little carbon-copy receipt book, and said I'd get a call as soon as my necklace was ready. I asked if he had some idea of what it would cost, and his face grew grave. He picked up my necklace again, peered at it through his monocle, and said, "Gee...hard to say until we get into it, but could be as much as...seven dollars." I also love going there to get watch batteries -- first they check to make sure there isn't something *else* wrong with your watch, then they install the new battery, and again, charge just a few bucks. This is the kind of business that you wish all businesses would be like. The people actually care about their work, they care about you, and their prices are in some kind of time warp. read more

I can't say enough good things about Oaks Jewelers. My wife's wedding ring came from one of the big chains, but I wanted to get my wedding band from someplace local. When I was a kid, Oaks Jewelers replaced a watch battery of mine for free, and that little act of excellent customer service brought me back 20 years later. I was really impressed by everything about Oaks Jewelers -- their customization process for helping find the perfect ring was actually much better/more impressive than "designer" stores like Tiffany (check out the Oaks website section for helping you customize/pick your perfect ring -- major chain store websites aren't even half as user-friendly and helpful), and I ended up getting exactly the type of wedding band I wanted, very high quality, for a reasonable price. The employees were nothing but nice -- never pushy, just engaged and helpful. I was cleaning an earring on Saturday afternoon when the stone popped out. I checked the Oaks would be open for 45 more minutes. When I got there, I explained I was hoping to wear them Sunday with a matching necklace for a special occasion the next morning. I dropped my wedding ring in the gargabe dispousal while it was running! It was totally mangled! Oval shaped with nicks all over. I took it to Oaks Jewelers in Berkeley, CA to see if it could be reparied. I talked to the owner who started the Jewely Shop 40+ years ago. I think his name is George. He said he could probably fix it and get rid of all the nicks & scratches. He also decreased the size to fit my finger as I lost weight since we were married. My wife bought the ring for our wedding cerimony. It is engraved on the inside with our names and date we were married. My wife also had here wedding & engagedment ring soldered together and resized.
