On a road trip from Tennessee to Florida, we wanted to stop in a small town for our first real meal after a long weekend camping. We stopped in Oakwood Cafe and left very happy with our choice of lunch destination. The food was great, well portioned and fairly priced. Wife and I had dinner already planned but stopped in the Oakwood Cafe because we heard they were good. Ordered a triple decker Club sandwich and fries to split with the wife. Sandwich was huge and more than enough for both of us. Waitress had it cut into quarters and even split the fries up for us also. Only downside is they are usually very busy but that's a sign of how good the food is. Amazing home cooked southern food. Buffet gets refilled like clockwork you never have to wait for something to get refreshed they are on top of it. We visited the town of Dalton and ate at this restaurant. The pork chops and the fried green tomatoes were delicious. My husband ordered the grilled lemon Tilapia along with Cole slaw and a baked sweet potato. We would highly recommend this restaurant. From all of the positive reviews, I thought I would try out the Oakwood. It was Friday and I decided to get the chicken livers. Big mistake. I think I was served the scraps that were left over from lunch. Small pieces of liver, dry and hard. I did not get an entire liver, only pieces. I saw others order the same and got large whole livers. What was served to me should have been trashed. Since I am not a complainer, I paid my tab and left. I am a firm believer that you should be served quality food and have to complain. I will not go back. read more

WELL WORTH the extra 2-3 miles! The service was pleasant, the restaurant was nice & clean, the atmosphere nice & down home friendly and the food was delicious. First, if you are from south of Atlanta, take a parka.......thought I would freeze. I ordered grilled chicken, thinking of, well, grilled chicken........not 4 small chicken strips. All food was luke warm. Sweet potato & greens were good but not a fan of soupy mac-n-cheese. Fairly stingy portions. My wife is pretty easy to please eating out, but she doesn't want to go back either. Our waitress was nice and good at her job. We went there to eat because of the great ratings, but I'm learning not to pay much attention to these ratings. Most folks can tell you where to get a good burger or steak, but telling you where to get good vittles is a different story. Most women don't seem to cook much nowadays and they nor their families really know what "good" food tastes like I've decided. I grew up with good cooks and my wife is a good cook, so maybe my standard is too high. We rarely eat out and wish we had stayed home tonight. read more

Still trying to figure out why the reviews are so positive... while it is one of the better places in Dalton that isn't a national chain, that is not to say it's good enough to be able to survive anywhere it had any real competition. However, that said, for what it is it's ok. No attention is ever made for artistry or plating as dishes have all the visual appeal of a school cafeteria lunch... and I would stay as far away from the turkey and dressing as you can, but some of the other regular items are tasty. The ruben was passable (no where near enough meat to bread but that seems to be the trend in this part of the country for rubens), and I enjoyed the chicken and dumplings and the deviled eggs... and as a diabetic I'm always happy to see a sweet potato read more

Excellent service. Amazing southern style food prepared to tasty perfection. Food selection varies depending on day and is prepared fresh. The restaurant is seat yourself and it is busy at lunch time. However, we were promptly helped with locating a seat. Our drink orders were taken before we were even all sitting down and the excellent service was maintained from the beginning of our visit to the end. Stopped in Dalton to check out the "historic downtown" and while it was a bit of a disappointment, this cafe sure made up for it! Nice decor, friendly and prompt waitress, and fantastic food! I had the Reuben sandwich with onion rings - both were delicious and it was so nice to see homemade onion rings!! My daughter had the meat and two - pot roast, mashed potatoes and squash casserole. She said the casserole was a little bland. But raved over the rest. We were both sorry that we picked a day when the corn casserole wasn't on the menu. We plan to go back though ;) read more
