If you have any type of food allergies do not go here. Asked if they had anything on the menu without dairy and was told 'I don't know'. Can you go ask someone. Came back and gave a few options. Asked about the hush puppies on my plate - could not tell me what was in them. Was told they come already prepared. Then I look at the salad covered in cheese. I told her that cheese is definitely dairy. Why would I have cheese on my salad. That she could actually kill me. She laughed. I don't eat out a lot because of allergies. Fresh food. Perfectly cooked lightly battered shrimp. The shrimp Po'Boy had fresh sweet bread and fresh tomato and toppings. It was a good value for the money. I was here at lunch and it was fairly crowded. Service here was excellent. A table couldn't set idle here for two minutes until it was bussed. I did have to add a healthy dose of hot sauce to everything as the red beans and rice were nice and fresh but bland. I would say the same for the remoulade sauce as it was rather bland compared to most. Overall, I thought it was a good value for the money. Tuesday, October 21, 2025, I drove through the very narrow passageway behind Sam's Southern Eatery to conduct business at another establishment. Upon witnessing a Sam's employee hurling buckets of what I assumed to be water from the back door, I had no choice but to drive through it. Turns out, it was nasty grease, just tossed onto the roadway. I got disgusting old grease all over my car. Gross health practices. I will surely never eat there! read more

The food is good. The prices are pretty good except the okra. It should be a side and it's an appetizer. The staff are friendly and they are pretty fast. The atmosphere is relaxed. They have a good variety of everything. read more

First time eating here, I thought it would be a sit down meal but you order as you come in and then they bring out the food. I don't think I will be back just because I want to be able to view a menu and not be rushed into ordering something especially if it's my first time visiting a restaurant, I was also wondering what the etiquette is on tipping.. I don't tip at McDonald's and I was not prepared to do so here but after the order was being placed I was greeted with a screen of different % amounts for tip. It started with 15% and up. I placed my % and I was handed a number and styrofoam cup. I was so flustered by that I didn't realize you can put in your own tip amount if you like. The place was clean and not very busy but had a good stream of people in and out. The food was good and the portion is big and I had leftovers so I have my dinner ready now. Been here several times and never been disappointed. Service is always good and the food is fresh. The chicken strips are fried to perfection and the jumbo shrimp are always good with the spicy tartar sauce. The red beans and rice and coleslaw have always been good. I came to Sam's expecting Southern food. It is not a southern food restaurant. This is a fried seafood restaurant. It's decent but not anything to shout about. They are very friendly and customer service oriented, but there are better options in Rome for seafood and actual southern food restaurants. read more

I guess it depends on the person. It was hot but not to my taste. Hush puppies were gummy in the center. Shrimp (tempura type batter) had no taste except for the horseradish sauce. Fries were ok. This was a pleasant surprise and I'm sorry it has taken me this long to visit. Jumbo shrimp and Po' Boys are not that abundant in Rome.

Sam's Southern Eatery is one of our all time favorite places to eat. It also must be the favorite of others because it is always busy when we go. That hasn't been a problem because we always manage to find a table as soon as we place our order. Sam's is a casual restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring your food to the table. We have always had great service and the food comes out fast and it is always fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. We usually have the catfish and it is out of this world delicious. This is a family owned business and the kids (teens) bring the food and bus the tables. The staff is always very helpful and extremely kind and friendly. We like the casual atmosphere. If you like seafood you have to try Sam's. I think they serve hamburgers but we have never been able to refuse the catfish! Yummy! read more

Meh...Grill was definitely turned too high. Burger seared past caramelization and onto burnt centers on the outside of patty. Same level of heat completely blackened diced meat in Philly sandwich. Philly veggies should start on the grill and meat that thin added later. Fries were barely warm. We're good but went cold really really fast. Philly wrapped in foil which left the bread tough from resulting condensation. Think everything would have been much better if eaten in house versus to go. May try them again in another month or so, to see if vendor works out the kinks. Potentially great food. read more

Great little place! Amazing portions at wonderful prices. And the staff was probably the friendliest I have seen in a restaurant. We felt welcome from the moment we walked in the the moment we left. And great senses of humor- even after they saw the table that two toddlers ate at! We even got to taste fried green tomatoes and cookies on the house.
