Ohhhh THE oakwood...This place is awesome. I'm so glad dalton has this little restaurant. It's pretty much a staple here and everyone loves it! I've had their tilapia, chicken tenders, smoked chicken, turkey and dressing, and pot roast.. ALL absolutely delicious! The Cajun seasoning on the tilapia is awesome. The chicken tenders... OHHH the chicken tenders! AMAZING on a biscuit! The tenders are seasoned so well or their batter tastes like it has rainbows and unicorns. The smoked chicken is a generous portion with great smoked flavor. The pot roast is tender, flavorful, accompanied with yummy carrots and other pot roast veggies. Not only are their meats awesome, their sides are great too! You can't go wrong with their baked sweet potato with cinnamon butter, Mac and cheese, carrots, green beans, and even their slaw is good! Friendly waitress and quick service were about the only positives. My pulled pork was DRY and served in a small cup. When I asked for some BBQ sauce it was served in a small soufflé (about a tablespoon), Corn muffin had no flavor and was the size of a half dollar. It was gone in two bites. I selected tomatoes as my side. Was given three slices, one was the un-cored top which was inedible (unless you like the top core of a tomato). My sweet potato was good and of average size. We had been traveling for six hours when we stumbled upon this restaurant. My daughters were grumpy and just wanted to get home. Everyone at this restaurant was so friendly and welcoming. We ordered the full rack of ribs and two chicken plates. The ribs were incredible. I really liked the rub. The chicken was very good as well as the sides which included turnip greens, Brunswick stew, onion rings and corn bread. We left the restaurant in a good mood and made some new friends. This is definitely reminiscent of the home town cafe. The location is close enough to I-75 for the minor detour. The tin wainscoting and exposed brick interior definitely add to the atmosphere. Second time even better than the first. I came here while in Dalton 2 years ago and fell in love with the food. So I made it a point to stop here on a recent trip from Nashville to Atlanta. So glad I did! The food was even better than I had remembered. The creamed corn is the best I've ever had. Perfectly breaded fried chicken tenders, mac-n-cheese, carrot souffle and a sweet tea while I waited that they topped off before I left. Even if you're an out-of-towner you'll get friendly respectful service with plently of "Yes ma'ams" sprinkled in. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that my take-out box was NOT made of styrofoam. Yay! If you're looking for a fast drive-thru with generic food to stuff your gut, Oakwood is probably not be for you. But if you want a quality, southern, made-with-love meal that does NOT taste like every other "Crapplebees" along the interstate then this is your place. The Oakwood Cafe is a gem of a place! This local family owned and operated restaurant has great southern charm and delicious southern cuisine. Fried chicken tenders, pot roast, meatloaf, you name it the Oakwood probably has it. Meats and veggies change from day to day. Also great BBQ por, chicken and ribs too! Unbelievably good deli sandwiches as well like grilled reubens, club sandwichs, homemade chicken and tuna fish salad. Sweet tea and coffee are always top notch. And I almost forgot about breakfast! Fantastic breakfast items from biscuits, omelets, monster pancakes, french toast, even eggs benedict! I must try if within driving distance. read more

Amazing food and service! We stopped here on a business trip for lunch and the experience was excellent all way round! I got the meat and three: fried chicken tenders, green beans, hash brown casserole, and mac and cheese. Everything was out of this world. My colleagues both got the corn casserole and both said that it was the best they'd ever had. I usually don't order dessert, but I had to try the peach cobbler and it was one of the better decisions of my life. To top it off, our server Regina was outstanding! She was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and a beautiful person. I couldn't recommend this local gem enough. read more

We got right in and saw a bunch of locals eating there and chatting animatedly with one another - always a good sign. Our table of four chose a bunch of the options from the Friday selection of meats and vegetables. My favorite meat by far was the pot roast, but the chicken and BBQ pork were also quite good. The Brunswick Stew was slightly sweet and spicy, and overall really tasty. We also were lucky enough to save enough room for an order of the peach cobbler, which should not be missed. I live in Atlanta and I requested to eat here with a relative from the area. We went on a Thursday for lunch, it was PACKED. There's a lot of parking but most of the spots were filled. I ordered the country fried steak with gravy and two sides. It was EXCELLENT!!! Hands down the best I've ever had. I devoured it!!! My relative ordered chicken & dumplings, they were not as great, and they lacked flavored and seasoning. A little disappointing to say the least. The mac n' cheese is the bomb, oh my lord it's so cheesy and delicious! I'd come back again to try another one of their daily specials. read more

I was down in Dalton for a doctor's appointment the other day, and I was looking for a reasonably priced, hearty lunch. I was greeted by a friendly neighborhood window washer outside, and then I helped myself to a seat. The booths and overall 50's diner ambiance were very pleasant, and within a minute or two I was able to give my meat and two veggies selection to the no-nonsense waitress. My food was out within about three minutes, and it was GREAT. The chicken tenders were succulent, and the broccoli casserole was creamy and delicious. All of this was washed down with wonderful sweet tea. I would definitely eat here again if in the area. read more

I have to say, my second visit was much more pleasant. I went for the fried catfish with mac n' cheese and fries. The fried catfish tasted nice and fresh, with just the right crisp. Not too much you can say about fries. The mac n' cheese though, it was great! Creamy noodles filled with joy, nothing like a good side of mac n' cheese. This is a local favorite especially at lunch. Great meat and vegetables. Try their chicken tenders or the smoked chicken. Great burgers too.
