Came in for a cold one on this record breaking heat day. The ambiance is great, well lit, live dj playing Cumbra and tejano music. There were the usual suspects. Old timers, a group of girls celebrating a 21st bday, some blue collar guys relaxing after work and me. The place sure had changed from the old crossroad bar and I think for the better. As I lean on this bar, nursing my Budweiser watching these youngsters dancing and having fun, contrasted with the couple in their 60s just a couple dozen feet away it seems almost poetic. It isn't, it's a Friday night. Karaoke is back on after some celebrating of the 21 year old over the PA. Good times.

What a shithole. Dirty and dingy, the food took forever and the fries were super greasy.

We found Roc The Mic online and made a reservation for one of their private rooms. A nonrefundable $100 deposit is required to book and $40 a person gets you a 2 hour slot. This place is a little hidden away in kind of an unassuming location. It's tucked away but the signage sticks out; just the directions. Your whole party has to be present to check in and the entire balance of your party has to be paid on one card before everyone can get in. They inspected the bags we brought in because things like outside food, hard liquor, and glasses bottles are not allowed. You can BYOB but the beverages need to be in cans. There is a little mini fridge in the rooms to keep the drinks cold ($20 BYOB fee per their policy). We got the Disco room and settled in. The decor was fun and on theme. Only thing that was a bummer was our disco ball didn't work, but the ambiance was still enjoyable. The staff member Isaac gave us the rules of the room (like no jumping on the furniture) and the rundown on how to use the queue, microphones, and iPad. It was all really user friendly. You can even scan the catalog from a QR code and use your phone to search for the perfect song and to add/remove songs from the queue. You get two microphones for those sweet duets or you can just belt it out all together (like we did for most of ours). The catalog of songs was expansive!!!! There was not one song we searched for that we couldn't find. There were other rooms in use but the sound proofing in there must be top notch because we didn't hear anyone else and were grateful no one else heard us either. You get two hours in the room and time really flies when you're having fun. Once we got those first nervous jitters out it was an all out blast. Highly recommend for birthdays, bachelorettes/bachelors, celebrations, and the like. We will surely be back! Oh, just a heads up. There is a massive mannequin in one of the bathrooms hanging up on the wall (it's a little a la Gladys from Friends season 10 episode 6) and with the lights off and other lights flashing, felt like a haunted house. Caught me off guard. Watched it creeped out a few other unsuspecting karaoke goers too. All in good fun.

Only the few people who came in as customers during karaoke were amazing and wonderful. The STAFF HERE IS JUDGMENTAL AS FUCK. I just lost a ton of weight over the last year and am very tall, I came in here super cute with my followers. I was trying to have fun while being RESPECTFUL TOWARDS THOSE AROUND ME. I did NOT receive the same treatment at all. They couldn't take ANY of my cards like chime debit or PayPal, also don't have any electronic type pay at all. FYI Kindness is free maybe don't BE the HATE WE ALL see in the world. WE ARE A RAINBOW COMMUNITY FOR A REASON. All I was trying to do was find a SAFE PLACE to chill and you FUCKED THAT UP WITH YOUR JUDGEMENT (and eye rolls). That's on you, especially when I tried to have conversations and treat you with love and kindness but all I got was NEGATIVITY. That doesn't EVER create a conducive environment for LGBTQ+ humans. So CHANGE. BECOME BETTER. Our community deserves it.

They've been bringing a bunch of cool underground DJs: Satin Jackets, Hot Chip, Sofia Kourtesis, Matthew Dear, Com Truise. Thundercat does all sorts of theme nights: goth, techno, indie dance, yacht rock, karaoke, 80s pop/hip-hop. They also have some really interesting vendors set up shop outside sometimes: food, art, toys and collectibles. Despite the retro look the soundsystem is super high tech and there is a massive LED screen behind the dj with some folks doing live visuals. Cocktails are great and cost as much as anywhere else, though the beer selection could use a little work. Security and staff aren't dicks, which is always nice. Looking forward to the cooler months when I'm sure they'll have djs/art/entertainment outside on the patio.

Once we got inside, the crowd was here for all the fun and dance of it. My friends and I grabbed a drink and stomped right onto the dance floor with everybody else. I'm not quite sure how to explain the vibe, but it was just 'on one'. Next thing I know we're jumping up and down with the DJ and sweating our assess off. Everybody was so friendly, the bartenders were ready everytime we crawled over, and the music was non stop amazing. I wish I could come here on a regular basis but my poor knees just wouldn't be able to survive the brutality of it all. I can't remember the last time I've been somewhere and the entire crew did not want to leave. Everytime we tried to skip out, the DJ would play an old/new mashup that forced my little dancin' feet right back inside. Do yourself a favor and get yourself on top of this experience. You'll thank me. I promise!
