Fancy ingredients with a decent delivery. Not too great for what it costs

This is a must when you visit Kauai (Wailua-Kapa'a). Expect $100+ (dinner for two, cocktails to desert) and it is worth every penny. It starts with the service, ask for Henry; his recommendations are spot on. The food is delicious; take your time, you will want to enjoy every bite. It IS farm to table fresh. Fish doesn't get any fresher here, tonight the Ono tartar appetizer and seared Ahi were stellar. The pork chop was moist tender and delicious. Like an after dinner drink? I was introduced to J Vineyards (Sonoma, California) Pear Liqueur; this brandy is delightful. The pear notes are wonderful with a warm buttery taste and texture. Thank you, Henry. The view is great, ambience excellent and very romantic. Need some economy with that view? Happy hour 3-6pm, half price signature drinks and more. If you can have only one dinner on Kauai, make this the one. read more

We just randomly found this place and were truly amazed. The food was spectacular, service was top notch and the view was perfect. My wife had fish she described as the best of her life while I had the short ribs which were flavorful and complimented by a tasty rice. Drink prices were on happy hour and the best we saw while on the island. We even saw a whale breaching viewed from our table! To finish it off, they brought us a complimentary dessert after my wife expressed how much she loved her dinner. We ate out numerous times all over the island during our stay and this was clearly the best by far. Will come again..and again! read more

My wife and I were initially put off by the flossy exterior. How ever the Bar and Grill is right on the water, open air construction, with a great ocean view! It is cooled by the ocean breezes and thus is a pleasant place to pass the time. We had the breakfast wrap which was first class and quite hardy. Our starter was the won tons, which also were quite good, but not off the charts. Nice romantic ambiance for those so inclined. . read more

Outstanding customer service, beautiful ocean view, delicious food, fun drinks--it was a perfect meal. We were greeted so warmly and our server went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. We went twice. Great view. Friendly and helpful staff. Don't go to the St Regis or whatever if you are celebrating, come here. Okinawan sweet potato chips (pupu): We got it both times, 5 stars the first time and 4 the second (the smoked cheese wasn't as evenly distributed). Truffle and bacon fried rice (pupu): 4 stars, solid. Give it a try. French onion soup: 2-3 stars, no real crouton, just a few cubes floating. I'd skip it for sure. Grilled Catch with pumpkin mash: 5 stars per my wife Vegetable Curry: 5 stars per my wife, the half serving was more than enough when paired with an app and a salad. Chef's Cut - NY Strip: 3 stars. It wasn't evenly cooked (one side was medium rare while the other was well done. Not enough sauce on the plate to even really taste it. Spinach was super plain but cooked just enough. Pork Chops: 6+ stars. Simply the best pork chops I've ever had. If you eat pork, you gotta try these. I kept thinking there was some amazing seasoning on them but it is just the flavor of the pork... I was shocked to find out it only had salt and pepper on it. Easily one of the top ten meals I've ever had. Food orgasm for sure. read more

We stayed at the adjacent Waipouli beach resort. This place is a very nice open air seating. Food is good. Place is always busy so a reservation is recommended. Got turned away the first time since they were full, second time they were full again, but they accomodated us. Staff super nice as well. Our baby knocked over one of our cocktails, and they replaced it for us -- even though they really didn't have to since it was our fault. Greatly appreciated that. read more

Amazing craft cocktails - and I'm not really a hardcore cocktail guy - and really adventurous, locally-sourced food. Definitely a must, not so much for the food but for the setting! It is the perfect island restaurant in Kauai, very casual but located on the beach at an upscale tiki hut. Great service with ok drinks, mai tai was a bit sweet for my liking and the fish of the day in the beet salad was a bit dry. My husband decided to try something away from our hotel and ended up here. I ordered the calamari as I always do every time we go to a restaurant and it was the BEST that I've ever tasted! It was cooked just right, not that salty, not that hard, and it had a mix of spicy, sweet flavor! I hope to go back at least one more time. The half size of braised short ribs was awesome, too! Making reservations was easy. We were supposed to be seated on the patio but with weather want permitting so we sat indoors by the windows, which was fine. The ambience is lovely and the staff were great. The menu is a bit pricey and portions on the smaller size. However, the food was phenomenal. If they are serving the monchong, get it. This restaurant is beautifully situated with beautiful views of the ocean. We were there for lunch and enjoyed the fish tacos, although, at $15, I think they could serve three tacos rather than two. We also ordered the wantons as an appetizer. They were not worth the $12 price, being rather underwhelming in flavor and a bit stale. read more

I've been on Kauai for 5 days. I haven't written a single review. Now, I'm actually still at the restaurant and writing this. Walked in here last minute because the other place we planned to go to was now all vegan. Not up my ally. But if I was vegan, this restaurant would change my mind asap. I called here and asked if there is room. There was. The wifey was craving a burger. We walked in and Don greeted us. And we were just having a good time and told him we wanted a burger. He told us the burger here is the best we've ever had. At first I thought whatever, it's just a burger probably. A normal reaction, right? Henry took care of us. He was an absolute pleasure. Not only did he describe everything, he is actually a foodie and doesn't mess around. He gave us recommendations, told us about amazing restaurants back home (we'll have to check them out), and just made the last dinner of our vacation amazing. Best place we've been to, hands down. I had the short rib and their fish of the day. It's the type of food you can't make at home, and that's what we look for. And this is def a place like that. We went here for the Sunday brunch but they stopped serving it a few months ago. We were disappointed but had breakfast. It was good but pricy. The best thing on the breakfast menu is the breakfast wrap. Very good. We were shocked when toast was going to cost $3.50 for two pieces! It did not come with breakfast. We went for a quick dinner. We got the 1/2 plates. It is a small menu. Our food was okay nothing special and if you are hungry don't order the 1/2 plate. The ambiance is great right on the ocean. We were enchanted by the beachfront location, the live music from a ukelele master, and the excellent food. The mission of the restaurant is to use locally sourced, fresh ingredients. The food is served small plate/tapas style, allowing you to savor all the wonderful flavors. Our favorites: arugula served with papaya jam and brie filled pastry; Charmoula prawns, perfectly grilled; and tenderloin and bleu cheese fondue.
