Come for the kkanpunggi!! Best dish by far. Freshly fried, crispy and thin layer of sauce covering each piece of pork. Jjamppong and jjajangmyeon are standard. First time trying gochujapchae and it tastes to me more like Chinese food almost. Comforting but also nothing too special.

This place started at Hong's Kitchen but have since expanded to a few locations. They have great lunch specials on weekdays and it draws a pretty large crowd. This location is on a busy street with no private parking lot so it might be hard to find street parking. We use to dine-in here often pre pandemic but we often opt for takeout now to avoid the crowds. They separate the noodles and the soup so it's travels pretty well if you are having it delivered. The deep fried items with sauce might get a little soggy but the sweat and spicy pork are package with the sauce on the side so it's still nice and crispy even after a 10-15 min walk home. My go to is their spicy seafood noodle soup and their black bean noodles but I also love their spicy garlic chicken and shrimp. Their portions are decent and the prices are very reasonable.

THE GOOD ---------------- + Food was relatively good overall. ++++ Soy Garlic Chicken Wings (8pcs) were what you'd expect from Korean Fried Chicken - moist, crunchy and very, very flavorful. ++++ Glass Noodle Dumplings (8pcs) were solid. The dumplings were huge, crunchy and very filling. ++++ Stir-Fried Marinated Beef over Fried Rice was excellent. The fried rice was perfect and the beef was tasty and tender. ++++ Noodles w/ Black Soybean Sauce were probably our least favorite. We saw almost every table order it and we figured to try it because it seemed to be very popular here, but it was just OK. The Black Soybean Sauce had a unique flavor to it. Definitely not for everyone. + Restaurant was spacious enough with plenty of tables. + Restaurant was bussssy on a Saturday evening around 6PM, which was a good sign, but no one had to wait to be seated, so don't fret. + Service was excellent throughout our meal. Food arrived quickly and the waitresses refilled our pickled cucumbers after we devoured them. THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - No private parking lot, as is the case for all of the restaurants in the area, so be prepared to look for a spot on the street. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Although there are English translations of the menu items, if you're not familiar with Korean food, it can still be difficult to comprehend what exactly the item is because the ingredients are Korean.

Super nice service--they even asked me if chicken broth (which they use for the jjambbong) was okay, as I had asked if there was any pork in it. Seeing as we were going to order half and half's but didnt as we couldn't swap the different types of jajjangmyun in it, they brought us extra bowls to share. And the jjambbong was amazing! Little salty, but it hit the spot.

Ordered the fried chicken & jjajangmyeon. Best jjajangmyeon of my life. Very generous portions. The fried chicken was good too because of their homemade sauce.

Driving back to NYC from upstate, we were passing through NJ and needed to get some lunch. My bf was craving jjajangmyeon, so being the wonderful passenger princess that I am, I went on a hunt to look for a good spot. I searched on Google and Yelp and ended up choosing this spot and I am SO GLAD I did. We ordered to share: Jjajangmyeon, tangsuyuk, and string bean veggies. Everything 5/5. Huge portions. And the food was so comforting. So comforting that I saw a customer with his shoes off, feet out and toes wiggling, eating at a table nearby. He must've really felt like he was at home!! Was able to walk-in, no wait on Sat around 1pm. The place has lots of seating but all tables were occupied.

Second time coming here for Korean food. Ordered their lunch combo which came with a moderate serving of jajangmyeon and tang su yuk. I got the jajangmyeon spicy this time and it was bomb. 10/10 combo and definitely a value meal. Their sauce is a little tangier than most sauces that I've had but it's also loaded with zucchini and wood ear mushrooms. Adds a nice crunch to the mix. Overall, the restaurant is nice, standard banchan, and a pretty homey, comfortable spot for Korean/Chinese food.

Service was pretty slow (maybe waited 20 mins for our order to be taken and another 20 to get our food) but I think our server was aware of this and it was out of her control - she made sure to update us without us having to ask :) They were really good about topping up our teas+water. Regardless, really enjoyed the food - got a nice big combo of tangsuyuk and jjamppong for under $20 after tax and tip? Tangsuyuk was crispy with little morsels of juicy pork loin inside, and jjamppong also had lots of seafood bits in it. Definitely would go again for a lunch and probably my go-to for casual korean-chinese food in the area.

Got the Half JJamppong and Half Jjajangmyeon and was so amazed at the value! Both were solid noodle dishes and I loved the flavors in both. They're very different, the Jjamppong is super seafood-y spicy soupy, and the Jjajangmyeon is thick saucy savory. So good. We also got an order of the Tangsuyuk to share for the table, and I thought the sweet and sour glaze it came with was really good, not too overpowering. The pork itself was perfectly crispy too, not too much batter or overly fried.

I've been very sad since my favorite jjangmyeon place shut down during covid (RIP son ja jang) and on the hunt for something comparable. After trying a few other spots, I can say this is now my new favorite jjangmyeon spot in NJ. For context, I don't eat pork so I only tried places that offer beef or vegetarian options. This noodle needed the least dressing up with vinegar and chili, I.e. was the closest to how I like to eat it. It also didn't have that overly sweet quality that some jjangmyeons tend to have. The noodles were bouncy and perfect. The sauce was savory and glossy and featured ground beef, zucchini, and onion. Some places skimp on the zucchini. The staff were extremely helpful and kind. I'll also add that I was the last to order before the kitchen closed, and the fact that the quality did not suffer is quite impressive. I'll be back...often!

There was something missing and I just can't put my finger on it. The dining room here is not massive but the big windows help lighten it up. The service was overall quick and efficient although here were 2 tables at most while we were there. The jajang noodles had a good sauce albeit a tad salty, and the pork food for the sweet and sour pork had the golden yellow crispy batter and mostly tender meat. The sauce for it had the right favour and consistency, but we both felt it really should have had more veggies. They have their own marked parking spaces in the underground parking lot below, and although there were few spaces, on early Friday afternoon we were the only ones to park there so this was not an issue. I would consider going back, and I hope they keep improving.

Overall, great food! The jajangmyeon was well-seasoned and so is tangsuyuk. However, I still think the clear sauce of tangsuyuk in the Philly place is the best lol. I like how they have a small portion of this combo so that we can try other food, which bring us to seafood jeon! I think it's pretty good, a bit chewy, but I like that. This place has 2 locations, and I heard the Palisades Park one is better than Fort Lee.

Excellent dumplings! Love them so much, I might not make any more myself. Also I tried the mix menu: A small portion of the seafood noodles and the jajianmeon (meat, onions and potatoes in a sweet brown sauce) noodles. They were both ok. I appreciated that they packed the noodles separately.

We decided on this place because rating was pretty good and was open late. It's located in a plaza with Korean market, liquor store, cafe and such. Large parking area available in the plaza. Inside is small but clean and gives off traditional Korean restaurant vibe with of course Korean music. There were quite few Korean customers as well as staffs so i knew we were in the right place. They specialize in Korean beef soup. We ordered rice cake and dumplings and special beef rib soup. The fish came with purple rice and various kimchi and pickled veggies side dishes. They also serve korean hot tea along side the dishes. My special beef rib soup was very light and clear but full of beef flavor. Little touch with salt and pepper with pickled veggies and rice paired with very well. The meats were very tender and flavorful as well. Portion is quite large and i was not able to finish my bowl although i did help with another bowl of rice from my partner. My partner got the rice cake and dumplings beef soup. This one was a but lighter and needed more salt flavoring but also good. She liked her's better as she doesn't like heavier and fattier meat/broth. Salt and peppers are provided to adjust your seasoning as needed. Even though they could not finish the dishes i throughly enjoyed the food. What i like about Korean dishes is that even some are heavy and fatty they include lots of vegetables and healthy ingredients which makes it feel like you had a healthy meal and lots of nutrients despite eating out. Service was minimal but adequate. Overall it was very good authentic Korean restaurant that offers solid Korean beef soup. If you want to try authentic Korean beef soup and you are in the area this is the place.

Finally got to try this place I heard so much about on a Christmas day with wife because it was…read morefrigid and we wanted a warm bowl of Korean "tang"(soup). Finding parking is quite challenging given the location on a busy commercial street, so make sure you can come earlier than meal time to have better luck. They have waiting seats OUTSIDE so yeah I suppose it's quite popular at times. 1. ATMOSPHERE (3/5) - This location is small and it's pretty straightforward place. But I still found it cozy, with decent amount of seating (I think it can handle 15-20 max) and little details like wall with wood ledges and coat hangers were a nice touch. Seating was comfortable, though we tied our down parkas around our waist as another party had hung theirs on our side of coat hangers. 2. FOOD (4/5) - We dove right in to try their famous gejang (~Korean raw crab "ceviche") and ordered two of their namesake gookbap (rice with soup) to see how they are. Here's how it went down. - Gejang (App, $20, 2/5) - I had a hunch that on a holiday perhaps I should not order this, but my craving for succulent crab flesh be damned, I went for it and unfortunately, the meat was not well-marinated as I had feared. Gejang is a dish that has to sit in the complex soy-based pickling liquid for some time... and if restaurant is too busy churning them out or if it's slow season they won't do this properly. It not only wasn't fully marinated, I think the marinade was off because the spiciness was way out of balance and was overpowering. Perhaps knowing that it didn't have enough time to marinade the kitchen put extra diced jalapenos to compensate? Because that's exactly what it tasted like - you can't fool me. I tried to salvage the dish by asking a confused-looking girl server for some sugar, but yeah, can't un-do the overpowered marinade with sprinkling of sugar. This was really unfortunate as I was looking forward to a good bite. - Ahjae Gookbap (Main, $18, 5/5) - Thankfully, their namesake gookbap was spot-on to salvage our dining. Generous slabs of succulent beef on the bone and off the bone was swimming in a hearty beef/bone broth that tasted clean and focused. Portion was good, and can I say their banchan of fish cake moochim & unfermented kimchi & ggakdugi(radish kimchi) simply ROCKS? That was some serious deliciousness and dare I say value at $18 at a day and age where hamburger costs over $10! You win at life by ordering this! 3. SERVICE (4/5) - Our server girl was attentive and food came out early on though later it was a bit hard to get her attention promptly. We found ourselves putting hands in the air, and wavin' like we don't care... for a little while. They provide gloves & metal bin for gejang which was a nice touch for people to keep their fingers clean. One thing I'd like to mention: Plastic cup they served water in was all chipped on the rim so we instead went and got water from their hot & cold water dispenser which had metal cups (as many korean restaurants do). I'd suggest them to replace all these old plastic cups with metal ones for health reasons. Overall, we were satisfied with our meal. I'd chock up the gejang mishap to it being a holiday. I hope chef was just off with the marinade that day because I am a certified gejang pro(I catch and make my own) and that balance ain't it. But I will give it another try during warmer month and we'll definitely be back to try sooyook moochim, oyster jeon & other great soup offerings.

Ordered three things: 1) marinated crabs, small size (5/5). Always a must-get here. 2) ddukbaegi bulgogi (4.5/5) - Thinly sliced prime marinated beef ribeye casserole with rice cake and glass noodle and mushroom served in a sizzling hot pot. Really flavorful and so good to have on a cold day. 3) ahjae ppyo jjim (4.5/5) - Braised prime beef meat bones in soy reduction with carrots, radish, dates, chestnut, rice cake and glass noodles. We got non-spicy. It came in a HUGE bowl. Definitely meant to be shared with a group. Took leftovers home and it was still yummy the next day mixed with knife-cut noodles I had at home.

I had never had steamed skate anywhere before so my acquaintance told me that I wouldn't like it because it's "pungent" but I'm so glad I got to try it because I LOVED IT. The high ceilings and black color theme give it an elevated feel. And the staff is very nice and accommodating CONS: their air conditioning was broken when we went in the middle of summer (which I'm sure they'll eventually fix). I didn't mind because I love the heat but my acquaintance was sweating uncomfortably. Also, the food was good and some dishes were great but I wouldn't say it's the "best I ever had."
