We were at a loss after already completing basic training with our pup, as he was still struggling with negative behaviors we needed to correct, including nipping, guarding, fear, biting at the vet, and anxiety with strangers. We brought our 2-year-old rescue chihuahua mix, Harry, to Sal in hopes that he could help us address these more significant trauma-related issues. Harry was a tough nut to crack, but after the one-week board and train, we were blown away by the positive changes we saw. Sal and his team made incredible breakthroughs with Harry. He was able to be held and touched by the trainers, stopped guarding, and became noticeably calmer and happier overall. The post-board and train "tune-ups" were also extremely effective, allowing us to troubleshoot concerns during our 1:1 follow-up sessions with Sal. Harry has continued to return to Sal for day boarding, touch-ups, and additional socialization with other dogs, which he loves. He is always excited to see Sal and the training staff, which tells us the experience was truly positive for him. Now that we've completed the initial training and several boarding sessions, Harry is doing great. We can have people enter our home, he can go to the vet, get his teeth cleaned with no anesthesia, and receive care without needing to be muzzled or heavily medicated, and he is much more compliant overall. A bonus is that we can now confidently leave Harry for a day or vacation boarding, knowing he is in the best care and continuing his training while we're away. I just recently wrapped up some private training sessions with Sal and honestly, it's been one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. We adopted my 2 year old Yorkie mix Loki a couple of months ago and my wife and I, along with our kids, instantly fell in love. But what started as a blissful time slowly started becoming stressful as he got more comfortable, and a lot of his bad habits started to come out. He would lead our walks by incessantly sniffing around and would get overly excited when he saw other dogs, lunging and barking. The most frustrating thing however, was his behavior inside the house. He would constantly jump up on our dining table and counters searching for food, and steal food from my kids whenever he had a chance. He would also chew up my daughter's toys and dolls so we were forced to contain him to an area and crate him during meal times. It wasn't exactly deal-breaking behavior but I knew that this wasn't how I wanted it to be. I sent Sal a message and he responded to me with the information I needed quickly. We set up an in person evaluation and he gave me an honest opinion of what Loki needed, nothing more and nothing less. After our first 1 hour session, Loki was walking and behaving like a different dog. But seeing him "get it" and understand what he was supposed to do was the most rewarding part, because it showed me that there was definitely hope. Starting with leash behavior and some basics commands, Sal tailored our sessions around what I wanted to work on with Loki. He gave us some great advice on handling him indoors and gave us the tools we needed to communicate with our dog effectively. While Loki is not perfect, the difference has been night and day. We now have a dog that no longer jumps up, steals food or chews up my kid's toys. We are able to fully enjoy him inside our house without worrying about what he might do. I walk him to pick up my son from school and he will lay calmly outside next to me. But most importantly, I have the confidence to teach him in any situation and can look forward to doing all the things that we want to do with him. Our one year old doberman needed immediate behavioral training. After some reactive issues at the vet, we knew we needed someone efficient, capable, and who could not only train him, but give us humans the skills to be successful. That said, I actually had another trainer set up, when I came across Sal's Yelp page. I contacted him, and they got back to me within an hour. That same day I was able to meet with Sal for an assessment, and the next morning, Gus was off to a two week boarding program with him and his team. While we were on vacation, Sal made sure to send us videos and progress reports. We could see Gus' nervousness and lack of social skills lessen after the first week. It was awesome to watch him walk calmly on a leash at the wildly distracting Irvine Spectrum. When we picked him up, wow! Sal demonstrated what Gus had learned in such a short time, and then had me do some training on the spot. I'm not going to lie, I had, and still have, a fear of undoing all that he's been taught, but Sal has been so, so patient with me, and never have I felt judged, as we've worked on correcting my old habits, which I have plenty of. Bringing Gus home, it has been amazing to see how much better his manners are. He hasn't jumped on anyone, and overall, just seems to be more in control of his excitement. My partner and I had him enrolled in training when he was a puppy but he had mostly the basics down (sit, down, paw, etc). As Kuma grew up, he became more jumpy, more aggressive with food, barked whenever,more pulley during walks, and didn't listen when being told what to do. Sal equipped me with the resources and training that made me see a night and day difference with Kuma. He was patient, kind, and personable. Loved that he didn't make me feel bad while I was learning as well. Kuma has become more mellow in public spaces, listens to commands, is more confident with nail trimming and grooming (He got professionally groomed and the groomer said that he was the calmest corgi she's ever met), less reactive to sounds, and is overall so much better. I feel so much more confident about bringing Kuma out in public. It's such a major relief. Kuma has received so many compliments on how well behaved he is in public. My 3yo Westie, Yuki, is reactive and had zero obedience outside of the house. I've tried other trainers in the past with no progress. I spent way too much money are large training establishments and regretted it. My girl did a 2 week bootcamp with Sal and came back with huge improvements. Sal understood that she can't be trained purely on either negative or positive reinforcement, so he used a mix of both, and it works! Yuki isn't perfect, but I now have the foundation to work off of. Before, she pulled on the leash, wouldn't listen, and used to go nuts when she saw other dogs in the distance. Now, she walks by my side. She may still have reactive moments, but she can recover quickly and sit as told. She does require a pinch collar now, but I've reached a point where I'll use anything that works, and it works. It's up to me now to practice what we've learned for it to last. Sal also does pack walks which I've started to go to. It's helpful to have her exposed to other dogs and learn to ignore other dogs who may or may not also be reactive. Overall, highly recommend. read more

I concur with all the 5 star reviews here. My experience is the same. I had a 18-month-old GSD mix leash reactive rescue dog that pulls on dogs, people, skateboards, bicyclists etc. Now he doesn't pull anymore on people, skateboards, bicyclists etc. as i learnt the tools and techniques from Sal on how to be a more assertive dog dad and how to correct him to prevent him from being reactive. His reactivity towards dogs has improved quite a lot. I had 5 private sessions with Sal. After 4th private session, i was confident enough to walk my dog through local outdoor mall. I will be continuously practicing all the tools and techniques that i learnt from Sal. To those of you who are reading this, as a dog mom/dad you have to practice techniques that you learnt to have a more well-rounded pet. Sal has changed our lives! I have been working with him with my 4 year old reactive pit, Bam Bam for about 3 months. I have done both private training and board and train with him. Before Sal, Bam Bam was in a muzzle every time we left the house. And now I am confident walking her muzzle free! I am so glad that we chose Sal for our training journey. Our situation seemed hopeless before working with Sal. We introduced a new dog to our home and she was showing fear-aggression towards our resident dog. We were growing frustrated and losing sleep since they could not be in the same room together. Our 5 year old Goldendoodle and 1 year old Shih Tzu participated in the two week board and train. Before training, they would pull on the leash, bark at scooters, and react to other dogs/animals during walks. Now, our dogs walk along side us and don't pull on the leash. We have a Great Pyrenees his name is Ulf (Ulf means wolf in swedish), he is 10 months old and we were very frustrated because he wasn't walking properly, he would stop to smell everything, he wouldn't obey when we pulled the leash, he would attack us unexpectedly trying to bite us... We had tried a couple other trainers since we first adopted Ulf at 2 months old and after lots of money and time spent we had not seen results. At 10 months he was still not walking properly, not obeying, being a stubborn great pyrenees! Sal (the owner of Obey My Commands) came into our lives and it's like night and day!
