This place is very open and and lots of seating, I really like the small hole in the wall vibe, there should be more people in here though! The coffee is great and the guy barista that made my coffee and we had a great conversation, very cool guys, and awesome coffee spot. GREAT for working with headphones on. ONLY CON no almond milk. But soy coconut and oat

Unexpected gem. I was just driving by when a vintage sign informed me of coffee and pastries. I hear a drum, and walked in on a live jazz jam session. I moseyed over and ordered a breve and pastry. They have sugar free vanilla syrup and the coffee is good. Between the eclectic interior and the coffee (and unanticipated music) I am delighted to be here.

Love this low-key, warm, artful, funky, historic spot run by a nice family. It's a bit hidden compared to other nearby shops, and very much worth seeking out. Great people, delicious coffee, and interesting small batch roasted beans for sale.

Came here in the morning the other day with my friends. A bit surprised we were the only ones in, nothing wrong that though since it means we get to be serviced right away. A couple more customers came in maybe 10 minutes later. One of them left though, guess he couldn't wait anymore to get his coffee. I guess if you're in a rush, this place may not work for you. Looked like the owner of the joint was the only one working so far. He was very friendly though. You can tell he owned the place since the cafe was decorated with a bunch of his personal items such as photos of him and his family and his kids drawings. Felt very unique. I got myself a simple iced latte with soy. I didn't see the other menu to the left of the cash register til later where the cafe lists the different types of coffee beans they had available. Missed out on that and will have to check that out next time. No complaints here. Shop is hidden away within the residential area. It felt safe, spacious, and seemed like a chill spot to just hang out.

Cool house. Cool place. But, can you imagine living here , upstairs , with the constant aroma of fresh roasted and brewed coffee?? I'd be climbing the walls. Inside is dark and moody, Wood everywhere. Tables set against the wall . Seems like a place you can chew on. Earthy. But no carbs to accompany your caffeinated cup. Oh,,,,,, and it's gonna cost you $24 for that bag of beans.

The coffee was good but the kittens were great! There were three ADORABLE little tiny grey kittens that were so fun to play with while I was waiting for my order. I wanted to take them all home! The menu is a very traditional coffee menu with your regular americano, latte, mocha, chai, etc. I asked about the chai and the lady said it is spicy and made in house. There are different coffee blends, but no fall themed drinks or speciality flavors. I got a hot oat milk latte and it was scrumptious! Very creamy, comforting and rich. The coffee here tastes like a darker roast and doesn't have a bitter aftertaste like some can. It was ready really fast! I wish it had taken longer so I could have had more kitten time lol.

When I don't know what to do with my day, or I have work to catch up on, I go to Tov and go from there. Drink-wise, I often go for a Mucho Caliente, the "Mushit," a mushroom-based chai invention, or a Rose Mocha. I've had mochas all over and none compares to the way Joe and his staff concoct the drinks at Tov. The chocolatey-ness, viscosity, mouthfeel, flavor, sippability, sweetness, always satisfy my palate, and the balance of coffee to other flavors is always to my preference. Their drinks are decadent and may take a bit longer to make than expected, and I find it is well worth the wait. I enjoy getting comfortable on Joe's very colorful red cushions, taking in the purple Egyptian vibes within and the eccentric vibrancy that is Hawthorne outside. Fun fact: Joe doesn't believe in plain old ice, and instead he freezes cubes of milk! The cubes stratify into discrete layers that are fun to crunch through, reminiscent of the layers of baklava. Very enjoyable for someone who normally avoids ice or chewing on ice.

Located on Hawthorne just past the curve at 50th, they've got plenty of free street parking in the nearby blocks. They don't have much external signage but they do have a lot of outdoor streetside seating, so it makes you wonder what everyone else knows. Inside, they've got Coava coffee, efficient staff, and an old-school cafe vibe. The intentions were genuine and things have progressed in a way where Albina Press is one of the most recognized coffee brands in the city. It's not too dissimilar from its OG sister location in North Portland (#3), where they still brew high quality caffeinated drinks with the vibes of a homey communal space with chairs, couches, and individual tables for a proper coffee date, WFH worthy WiFi, and plenty of anti-war propaganda in the self-serve water area in the back. The latte art was on point, the cold brew was most definitely strong, cafe au lait was milky and foamy in the best way, and the americano drinks were fabulous. While their hours (#4) aren't particularly suited for after-work hours, they do an excellent job of keeping their space clean and the vibes low key throughout the morning and afternoon. Prices are good for Portland standards. Most drinks are $5 and under, even for the largest sizes. The limited but high quality pastry selection is also appreciated. The service was good overall, just be certain with the order and don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. Lines can happen, albeit rarely, and I would encourage most folks to drink the coffee on the spot. The space is part of the experience (be weary of the restrooms tho), so enjoy the low key ambiance with a drinkable jumpstart to the day. Their shop is very curated and is definitely has a "recently here because of gentrification vibe." However, I know it's been in Portland for a while and locals swear by it. With shops like these I find it easy to focus and work. The minimalist and industrial decor is a great place for adhd brains like mine. I was warmly greeted by someone at the register. I was interested in so many choices on their matcha. Horchata iced coffe, orange latte, strawberry Ube matcha. I asked the barista if they do exchanges or remakes for drink if the customer dislikes what they ordered. She mentioned they have a NO REMAKES policy. I knew it was time to lock in instead of trying something Willynilly. She was super patient with me as I wondered what to get and discussed my hesitations. She let me sample a tiny amount of the strawberry uber syrup and lavender to make my decision and it helped. I ended up getting and iced lavender matcha and didn't regret it at all. It's been hard for me to find good matcha in Portland and they didn't disappoint. The syrup was blended in well. The flavor of the matcha wasn't too grassy, bitter or powdery. I'm sad it's a seasonal drink because I'll Miss it. I also got an almond croissant, which was good but not mind blowing. I think I'll try the banana bread next time. They have a bathroom, 1 booth, bench seating and wall seating. It would be a bit of a challenge to bring a group larger than 3 here as they're small and busy. Maybe if you sat outside.
