Their bag coffees available for purchase

Lovely neighborhood coffee shop with delicious options! We came here on a recommendation and high praise from a local and really enjoyed the vibe and our coffees. I tried a single origin espresso cortado. It was smooth and creamy! We will visit again before we leave Portland.

It's hard to find a great cortado, and these guys definitely make an amazing cortado! Balanced espresso, perfectly steamed milk, and beautiful latte art. Great atmosphere as well.

What's up: We've had Stumptown before, so we wanted to try out a different place and see how their drinks were. Coava was a place that showed up frequently on my searches, so we added that to our list. Parking: Street parking. Environment: They have indoor and outdoor seating available. The order counter is located to the right upon entry and restrooms are to the left of the order counter. The menu is displayed on the wall behind the order counter. Whole beans and swag is also available for purchase. What was ordered: - Americano (good) - Matcha (light flavor) - Latte (good) Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. The staff member was friendly and the place was busy but quiet. Overall, the drinks were decent. Credit cards are accepted.

Cute, cozy and modern feeling coffee shop located in Hawthorne district. It was a cloudy and little rainy day when we went and the perfect time and place to enjoy a nice cup of coffee. Coava was the perfect pick! They have beautiful paintings/pictures of Oregon on their walls which add to the nice aesthetic. The baristas were super nice and friendly with the customers. I enjoyed sitting there and having my cup of coffee (latte). It was very relaxing.

Pretty good coffee. I got there around 7 on a Fri and it wasn't busy. By the time I left around 11 it had filled up. A good amount of indoor space, with outlets and WiFi. Some small tables outside as well. I got the cappuccino. Well made but nothing extraordinary. Their menu is all of the classic coffee drinks. No fancy or seasonal drinks from what I could tell. Service was friendly and quick.

I came on a Thursday afternoon and it was almost empty. The interior was very nice and it's a good study/WFH spot. The baristas/cashiers were friendly and I ordered a small iced vanilla latte. It was ok. I could barely taste the coffee flavor and it was super milky. This was more like an iced milk with light hints of coffee.

I got a Dirty Chai Latte with Almond Milk ($6) and it was fine. Nice Microfoam. Only one size for Lattes (10 oz). The interior is cozy and nice and would be great for spending a while in.

Cool coffee shop: yummy coffee (breve) and baked goods (handmade Marionberry pop tart from a local bakery). Staff are very friendly, professional and attentive. Large space and good for knitting and socializing. Definitely want to return with my family and friends.

Ahhh I'm so sad that this Coava location doesn't do pour overs because it's a smaller cafe. I came here with my cousins and they don't really love coffee but glad that there is a big list of teas for them to try. The barista working was super nice and helpful when suggesting which espresso shot to try as that depends on which latte you order. HONEY LATTE (10 OZ.) After getting it with oat milk and an extra shot of espresso, it does get a bit pricy but it's good to treat yourself every so often, I guess. The initial feel sips were perfect but it does get a bit too sweet halfway through. The creaminess of the oat milk complemented the natural sweetness of honey. And the extra espresso shots definitely allowed the coffee flavors and notes to shine (initially, I got it without the extra shots and it was hard to taste much coffee). I guess if you love a strong coffee taste in your latte, I'd recommend paying a bit extra for it. Overall, good espresso! Love that there are two different beans you can choose from (fruity or chocolate). I do wish they did pour overs here though, haha.

A well-known coffee roaster in Portland, Coava highlights the coffee scene in PDX. With multiple locations around town, Coava features a variety of roasts layered with tones and notes and hints of all fruits/vegetable/chocolates/nuts/desserts. With every location I've been to, the baristas have all been very knowledgeable on the coffee and are always keen on providing information and details on the coffee served that day. I went with an iced americano with a splash of oatmilk. The coffee was smooth and strong. If you're looking for a solid coffee option that won't disappoint, Coava is the place.

A gluten free coconut nut raisin date bar. Coconut shreds throughout. Very good!

Really a great latte. But once it reaches $6 for that tiny 10 ounce latte I'm gonna stop buying it forever.

No one welcomed us when we came in. They had some pastries left, seasonal drink menu and some cool expreso tumblers. I picked up a tumbler for a birthday gift. $35 When it was my turn to order I asked which was the person taking my order, what favorite seasonal drink they enjoyed. They Just deadgazed at me and said "well I have had the sticky toffee" so I was like okay, I'll try that. I also got the chocolate and pistachio scone. Scones are hard... I am picky. It was only okay. My coffee was crap. I didn't even finish it. No flavor, all milk... lukewarm warm. The two star is for the conversation behind the counter after I placed my order As they were making my drink, the one making the drink was like "i had someone ask me what scone was the best, psst, i don't know just pick one" and the other person whom I had placed my order with was like "i know, why do they ask. Just order" First of all. I generally just drink black coffee and when I decide to spend money on a gift, two scone and a coffee that is supposed to be seasonal and yummy, I want something that is just that! Yummy and memorable and not feel like I was an inconvenience to someone who worked there.

I've been here quite a few times and have really enjoyed the Aribic People's latte with its strong cardamon overtones, the Chocolate Jesus and today, the Mucho Calliente, which promises a chili infusion, and cinnamon infused espresso with dark chocolate! But wait..., oh no, I forgot to ask for oat... this is probably (certainly) dairy. Argh! Sorry, I have no Viking blood and can not digest cow milk. I would rather battle the aforementioned Viking before I'd endure the results of ... dairy! So, I brought my drink up fully prepared to pay for another and everyone there, EVERYONE, in almost unison, refused to take my payment. They kindly and quickly made another and... oh... spicy indeed, but chocolatey and balanced! One of the best spicy mochas I've had anywhere ... and I am an absolute Spella snob and proud of it! His hospitality set the tone for the whole evening--warm, relaxed, and full of conversation between people from all over the world. One of the highlights was watching Joe prepare traditional Egyptian coffee over hot sand, a centuries-old method that slowly heats the coffee and brings out deep, rich flavors. But the real comfort of the night came in the form of Egyptian Sahlab. Imagine a thick, creamy winter drink made from warm milk, gently sweetened and flavored with vanilla and orange blossom water. Those of you who tried it know what I am talking about! It was very nice to get a beautiful taste of Egyptian culture right here on Hawthorne. Huge thanks to Joe for the incredible hospitality and for sharing these traditions with us. I hope they expand to include a full Egyptian, Mediterranean food menu.
