I really like the taste of Puff Coffee, who described their business as a "teeny tiny" roastery. Their individual bags are $24-28 which is too high for me to buy to make at home regularly. But their drip in store is $3-4 bucks, lattes and cold brews are $5-6, which is totally doable for a nice treat. They've got delicious pastries, and it looks like they do bagel and donut pop-ups, as well as bring out a food truck on occasion. Located at the corner of Stark and 28th. Parking can be tricky immediately nearby so walk/bike/bus when possible or park in the neighborhoods and walk a few blocks. read more

Super cute place. Opened the door and enjoyed a wave of coffee scented air. Had a perfect cappuchino here - balanced, yet robust flavor. I was too late in the day for baked goods but will need to stop by again. Art everywhere and lots of mushroom art. The cashier/Barista was alone, possibly because it was pretty late in the day but even with 4 people in line, she kept her cool and was welcoming and friendly to every single customer.....impressive. read more

Puff coffee stands out to be Portland .. if you want to visit Portland as you remember it 20 years ago . Puff is the place .. incredible coffee . For their Famous Sprit lifter espresso .. to their Rwanda drip ... Pastries are delicious, love the plain croissant .. and on Saturdays I think they have maple bar ... u have to get there early ... for that one .. They do colab with local venders as they support small business to serve food outside .. Brain Food amazing Sour dough .. it there during the week .. selling loafs of amazing bread .. and they also sell toast with almond butter or jam .... Bagels on Friday . Pretty expensive coffee spot just off of Stark. Got a cappuccino and a shot of espresso and it came out to $8! Cute and small inside with a nice whimsical vibe.. various vintage coffee machines and porcelain fairies/mushrooms. They were playing Bob Marley so it didn't really go with the indoor theme, but the baristas were nice enough and the coffee was good. I've heard good things about this place, and although the coffee was good, it was way too pricey. Probably wouldn't come again. There are a lot more coffee places to visit in this city. read more

This low key neighborhood spot was the checkpoint for our run on a wonderful drizzly morning! I got an iced vanilla latte and my partner got a cortado--both yum. The decor was so cute and sci fi themed; think ET and alien-esque ceramics. We were so sweaty and endorphin-happy when we got there and the baristas were kind enough to give us a second to catch our breath ha. ‍Brownie pts added for chill vibes and runnable location. Speaking of brownies, we did also get a vegan coconut flake muffin that got me tapping my feet and energized for the run back! Yippee 4/5 read more

Really cool vibes and coffee! I've seen Puff a couple times heading to Belmont and I always told myself to stop by and check it out. Was in the area one day and ended up getting a parking spot right in front so it was the best way to get coffee. It's a cute little corner shop that does have some parking but it's shared with other businesses - better to just park on the street though. Just stopped by quickly to grab a latte but the staff was friendly and plenty of natural light inside and small covered outdoor area. Definitely look around the place for the art and trinkets that decorate the place. Coffee was solid and would recommend checking it out! read more

A friend and I were taking a walk and trying to find a place to eat. We ended up at Stark and 28th, and decided we could use some caffeination. I'd heard that Puff took over the old Canteen space, so we decided to give it a whirl. It's small, I believe they are also a roastery, but they do have a few tables, a counter with chairs and basic coffee drinks. The guy running the show was super friendly and chill, we liked him quite a bit. I also really liked the macchiato he made me, the best one I've had in town. It was slightly creamy against the bitterness of the espresso, perfection. My friend got hot cocoa and said it was good. They also have a small selection of pastries. I had a croissant and the gentleman working there said they are sourdough croissants made by a local bakery. It was really, really great! My pal had the ginger cookie and seemed to enjoy it as well. We're eager to stop by here for a coffee in the future! read more

Puff Coffee is a new project by Duane Sorenson*. They roast small batches from very select small growers, selling packaged coffee. Puff sometimes bids for small batches of beans in grower competition auctions. This is his new cafe. The opening menu is very small to start, espresso drinks from their most popular blend. More will come. The cafe has a cute simple Kinfolk interior, an outdoor side shed to the West seating area, and some outdoor full weather seating North. Turntable and vintage sound system. Shaker hook shelves, marble tables, bentwood chairs, plants, and fresh marigolds. We are excited to see Puff Coffee unfold and taste more of their beans! *The book Caffeinated PDX by Hutchens covers the history of Portland Coffee. Sorensen is in the book. This is one of those spots where you have to beg for service and make your presence known. Honestly, the coffee isn't worth the effort, and the staff's dismissive attitude only adds to its bitterness. Another reviewer joked that maybe they cater to a niche crowd that enjoys a little morning humiliation with their latte. Personally, I'm not into that, so I'd recommend going elsewhere if you'd rather start your day without a side of bad attitude. read more

this is the best coffee in Portland hands down. it's rarely very busy so typically quick to get in and out; it's also nice hanging out as they play chill music and are nice. off street parking on the south side of Stark is easy enough. this is from the founder of Stumptown Coffee which popularized 3rd wave coffee roasters, outright. read more

if you go here you will probably see someone with a dog and usually that dog is pretty nice. i saw a person who looked like they accidentally dressed like waluigi there which is pretty cool. espresso drinks are good, oat milk is the standard milk alternative. the chai is about medium between sweet and spicy, goes well with a couple shots of espresso. if you are visiting laurelhurst park this is a quick walk down the street, so you could probably enjoy a latte while looking at some really tall trees or watching the ducks. read more

I first heard about Puff coffee when I ate brunch at The Mont. I was happy to hear they took over the same building Canteen was in. So far I've only bought a cup of coffee and a mug so not really sure what else they offer but they also just opened a week ago. In the two years I've lived nearby, the coffee shop at the corner of Stark and 28th has changed ownership several times. In its current incarnation as "Puff Coffee" it has its best vibe so far, and the coffee and sweet noshes are pretty great too. They sell packaged small batches from small growers. Good stuff. read more

With multiple couches (one of my main criteria for a coffee shop) and free wifi, this is a place to work, meet people, and slow down. Great long hours - they're open 6am-6pm.

I asked the barista if they do exchanges or remakes for drink if the customer dislikes what they ordered. She mentioned they have a NO REMAKES policy. I knew it was time to lock in instead of trying something Willynilly. She was super patient with me as I wondered what to get and discussed my hesitations. She let me sample a tiny amount of the strawberry uber syrup and lavender to make my decision and it helped. I ended up getting and iced lavender matcha and didn't regret it at all. It's been hard for me to find good matcha in Portland and they didn't disappoint. The syrup was blended in well. The flavor of the matcha wasn't too grassy, bitter or powdery. I'm sad it's a seasonal drink because I'll Miss it. I also got an almond croissant, which was good but not mind blowing. I think I'll try the banana bread next time. They have a bathroom, 1 booth, bench seating and wall seating. It would be a bit of a challenge to bring a group larger than 3 here as they're small and busy. Maybe if you sat outside. Also I will say this: Pip's offers a free birthday dozen, which is incredibly generous gift. My birthday falls around the holidays so I usually can't make it in, but I want to be clear that I have absolutely zero complaints about that. Adults, especially, should never grumble about not receiving a generous freebie. The fact that they offer it at all speaks volumes about the kind of business they are!

Portland trip pt II featuring Pip's…read more Boyfriend and I visited Pip's before our flight back to LA. We've had pretty much every popular sugary and carby donut that Portland has to offer. A friend of mine recommended Pip's for their bite sized donuts and chai. We came at a right time by waking up early enough to beat the crowd. Service was pretty solid here and the menu is easy to read. Upon seating, they made a whoopsie by giving me a heated chai, but I can overlook that since they gave us an extra donut :) We got brownie butter, cinnamon sugar, and raw honey + salt to share. I got the King and I (made dirty) for my own because I love pandan. They put a lot of care into their product and it definitely shows. Chai was spectacular and donuts were delicious. I'm returning!
