Pros: cute shop, cozy booths, fast service. Cons: slow WiFi, bitter coffee, not enough outlets. The cold brew here is very bitter. I got the vanilla cold foam which made it more bearable towards the end as it melted. It's not the worst cold brew I've had but it's fairly mediocre. The price is on par with other cold brew when you add the cold foam ($7.50 for 16oz) but for what it is, it wasn't worth it for me. The ambiance is nice if I were to meet a friend here to hang out and chat. I wouldn't come back here to study, though. This is just personal preference but the music is loud and upbeat, and as someone who is neurodivergent, it's nearly impossible for me to study with loud background noise, even with headphones on. I prefer quieter coffee shops. There are also only two available outlets. The worst aspect that outweighs everything else is that the WiFi is horribly, horribly slow. It's horrendous. That alone means I definitely won't be back here unless someone invites me, and in that event, I'll persuade them to go elsewhere anyways. The barista is very welcoming and kind but the cons outweigh the pros.

Super cute spot right by a bunch of shops! Great for meeting up with a friend and hanging out. Love their drink options - I always love when a place has speciality drinks. I got a coconut matcha and it was so refreshing! I love that there was toasted coconut on top but not too much where I was chewing every bite lol. I enjoyed the cold foam!! The people behind the counter were very nice, chatting through what drinks they linked and going out of their way to make kind small talk with our group.

I had an awesome experience here on Saturday morning! This coffee shop had a bright, modern feel to it, with seating inside and out. I decided to try the Iced Mango Matcha Latte which was one of their seasonal offerings, and really enjoyed it! Everyone working was super friendly and helpful! There were pastries, breakfast sandwiches and bottled beverages for purchase as well as coffee beans! Definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area.

Was it really a day off work if you don't check out a new café? Golden Hour Coffee opened up about a month ago and is within walking distance from home, so I was excited to check it out today. It absolutely exceeded expectations - from the warm greeting by the owner upon walking in, to help figuring out what to order when feeling indecisive (both seasonal specials, and give whichever I like less to my boyfriend), to two beautiful and delicious drinks that I actually didn't want to share. The owner shared their story on Instagram. They are a first generation couple with Oaxacan, Laotian, and Vietnamese roots. Their goal is to create a space where culture and community are celebrated, in addition to great coffee. I think the vibe is set up well for this, based on their location at the best part of Hawthorne Street, with a variety of seating for gathering, and due to the friendly tone they've established. I'll definitely be back and you should check them out too!

The owners are super lovely and service every time has been incredibly warm and friendly. I love that this indie cafe has taken over this space. I love their summer special, the mango matcha. It's always so yummy and refreshing. My friend got a latte and enjoyed it as well. I recommend coming in the morning within the first hour just to soak in the space. Get a spot near the window and just appreciate the street when it's still quiet and the neighborhood is just waking up.

The most delightful people work at Golden Hour. I have been wanting to try this new spot for a while and today's the day. The staff was so sweet and friendly and I really enjoyed the mango matcha latte and strawberry matcha croissant. Neither was too sweet which was nice. They play great music here and even though it was busy it wasn't too loud. Highly recommend this lovely shop.

We walked by this place and thought it world be good to check them out. I believe it used to be a different coffee shop in the past. We ordered the Mango matcha as it was a nice day outside and just needed something cold to drink. The drink was pretty refreshing and the mango mixes in well with the matcha.

I really like the interior design for this place. nice lean lines that make the place looks very neat and clean but at the same time warm colors and material that make it look cosy. The coffee here was good and they do have unsweetened Matcha powder (I hate it when it's pre-sweetened). The location is great right on Hawthorne with big windows overlooking the street. There are a few tables outside on the sidewalk if I remember correctly. I also like that they have real live plants inside. With plenty of lite, it must be easy to grow them and they add so much.

Loves Golden Hour! The service was fast, the latter was immaculate, and the vibes were calming. The barista was extremely sweet, giving knowledgeable notes and suggestions based on what I was looking for. The salted caramel cream wasn't overly sweet but enough to complement the espresso. The decor is comfy yet professional and sleek. Loved it.

This place seems very popular. Maybe it has fast internet? Coffee? Undrinkable! I ordered a macchiato and this was the most extracted espresso I have ever tasted. Bitter, sour and no crème. The spot of foam could not hide the lack of love in this small horror, for which I paid $4.75.

Went in for coffee but was left speechless with the mollete! It was so good! 10/10 iced caramel vanilla latte, almond croissant and mollete! Great customer service and ambiance

Great service from friendly barista. I ordered the Chocolate Jesus and my kid had the Arabic People's Latte. Both drinks were unique and superbly delicious with cardamom accents. I would have ordered another round but I didn't want to be a jittery maniac for the rest of the day. I'm not a Portland resident, but I do live in the PNW. I've been here quite a few times and have really enjoyed the Aribic People's latte with its strong cardamon overtones, the Chocolate Jesus and today, the Mucho Calliente, which promises a chili infusion, and cinnamon infused espresso with dark chocolate! But wait..., oh no, I forgot to ask for oat... this is probably (certainly) dairy. Argh! Sorry, I have no Viking blood and can not digest cow milk. I would rather battle the aforementioned Viking before I'd endure the results of ... dairy! So, I brought my drink up fully prepared to pay for another and everyone there, EVERYONE, in almost unison, refused to take my payment. They kindly and quickly made another and... oh... spicy indeed, but chocolatey and balanced! One of the best spicy mochas I've had anywhere ... and I am an absolute Spella snob and proud of it! Inside secret: Don't miss out on the great selection of truly authentic Egyptian foods and pastries, as well as some really nice necklaces and earrings. If you need that piece to pull your whole Nefertiti look together before going out for a Saturday of dancing and fun... this is your hidden gem!

Maaaaaaybe my new favorite coffee shop!…read more I had been to their other location but for some sad reason never made it here. Located on Hawthorne just past the curve at 50th, they've got plenty of free street parking in the nearby blocks. They don't have much external signage but they do have a lot of outdoor streetside seating, so it makes you wonder what everyone else knows. Inside, they've got Coava coffee, efficient staff, and an old-school cafe vibe. With multiple couches (one of my main criteria for a coffee shop) and free wifi, this is a place to work, meet people, and slow down. Great long hours - they're open 6am-6pm.

The intentions were genuine and things have progressed in a way where Albina Press is one of the most recognized coffee brands in the city. It's not too dissimilar from its OG sister location in North Portland (#3), where they still brew high quality caffeinated drinks with the vibes of a homey communal space with chairs, couches, and individual tables for a proper coffee date, WFH worthy WiFi, and plenty of anti-war propaganda in the self-serve water area in the back. The latte art was on point, the cold brew was most definitely strong, cafe au lait was milky and foamy in the best way, and the americano drinks were fabulous. While their hours (#4) aren't particularly suited for after-work hours, they do an excellent job of keeping their space clean and the vibes low key throughout the morning and afternoon. Prices are good for Portland standards. Most drinks are $5 and under, even for the largest sizes. The limited but high quality pastry selection is also appreciated. The service was good overall, just be certain with the order and don't be afraid to ask for recommendations. Lines can happen, albeit rarely, and I would encourage most folks to drink the coffee on the spot. The space is part of the experience (be weary of the restrooms tho), so enjoy the low key ambiance with a drinkable jumpstart to the day. Their shop is very curated and is definitely has a "recently here because of gentrification vibe." However, I know it's been in Portland for a while and locals swear by it. With shops like these I find it easy to focus and work. The minimalist and industrial decor is a great place for adhd brains like mine. I was warmly greeted by someone at the register. I was interested in so many choices on their matcha. Horchata iced coffe, orange latte, strawberry Ube matcha. I asked the barista if they do exchanges or remakes for drink if the customer dislikes what they ordered. She mentioned they have a NO REMAKES policy. I knew it was time to lock in instead of trying something Willynilly. She was super patient with me as I wondered what to get and discussed my hesitations. She let me sample a tiny amount of the strawberry uber syrup and lavender to make my decision and it helped. I ended up getting and iced lavender matcha and didn't regret it at all. It's been hard for me to find good matcha in Portland and they didn't disappoint. The syrup was blended in well. The flavor of the matcha wasn't too grassy, bitter or powdery. I'm sad it's a seasonal drink because I'll Miss it. I also got an almond croissant, which was good but not mind blowing. I think I'll try the banana bread next time. They have a bathroom, 1 booth, bench seating and wall seating. It would be a bit of a challenge to bring a group larger than 3 here as they're small and busy. Maybe if you sat outside. Glad I gave this place a chance :)
