The Experience: I visited Golden Hour with a friend after taking a break from thrifting clothes around the Hawthorne neighborhood. What stood out: Food: I ordered the strawberry matcha latte with oatmilk. The presentation was gorgeous with layers of colors and textures. The drink was a bit sweeter than my usual taste but tasted high quality and refreshing. The crunchy strawberries on top were a yummy surprise. Ambiance: Golden Hour is quite small and sound carries. The workers talking to eachother were fairly loud. If I am in the area in the future, Golden Hour will be on my list to stop at! read more

Tasty flavored lattes! I felt lucky to find a parking spot right in front of the cafe. Upon walking in, the staff behind the counter were friendly and kind. I placed my order and the barista let me know about a vegan cold foam alternative. The drink was great and the matcha paired nicely with everything in the drink including pandan, coconut flakes, and vanilla. The interior was clean and there were plenty of places to sit. Lots of people hanging out in the shop, some working, some talking, but it seemed like a good spot to get some stuff done. There was music playing that set a welcoming mood. I got the seasonal peppermint mocha drink- all the flavors were very light and not too sweet which I appreciated. I only wished that there was stronger coffee taste (my preference), as it tasted like a warm milk drink with a hint of peppermint and dash of bitterness from the coffee. I do wonder how their drinks will taste iced so I do plan on coming back! I arrived with my party of 2 just before a small line formed, and ordered my seasonal drink and a drip coffee. there were 2 baristas at the time, but after we ordered one of them left(?) and only one barista remained to take orders and make drinks. it was busy and as a barista myself I understand so I didn't mind the longer wait and understood that they forgot the drip coffee we ordered due to the small rush. Upon reminding them after the customers behind us were served, the barista was super apologetic and made the drip coffee immediately. However, the coffee was lukewarm and didn't have a strong coffee taste either (according to my friend). Overall a cute little cafe on Hawthorne, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for their coffee. I would be willing to give this place another shot if I was in the area, as their other seasonal drinks look yummy! read more

Pros: cute shop, cozy booths, fast service. Cons: slow WiFi, bitter coffee, not enough outlets. The cold brew here is very bitter. I got the vanilla cold foam which made it more bearable towards the end as it melted. It's not the worst cold brew I've had but it's fairly mediocre. The price is on par with other cold brew when you add the cold foam ($7.50 for 16oz) but for what it is, it wasn't worth it for me. The ambiance is nice if I were to meet a friend here to hang out and chat. I wouldn't come back here to study, though. This is just personal preference but the music is loud and upbeat, and as someone who is neurodivergent, it's nearly impossible for me to study with loud background noise, even with headphones on. I prefer quieter coffee shops. There are also only two available outlets. The worst aspect that outweighs everything else is that the WiFi is horribly, horribly slow. It's horrendous. That alone means I definitely won't be back here unless someone invites me, and in that event, I'll persuade them to go elsewhere anyways. The barista is very welcoming and kind but the cons outweigh the pros. read more

Super cute spot right by a bunch of shops! Great for meeting up with a friend and hanging out. Love their drink options - I always love when a place has speciality drinks. I got a coconut matcha and it was so refreshing! I love that there was toasted coconut on top but not too much where I was chewing every bite lol. I enjoyed the cold foam!! I had an awesome experience here on Saturday morning! This coffee shop had a bright, modern feel to it, with seating inside and out. I decided to try the Iced Mango Matcha Latte which was one of their seasonal offerings, and really enjoyed it! Everyone working was super friendly and helpful! There were pastries, breakfast sandwiches and bottled beverages for purchase as well as coffee beans! Definitely recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area. read more

Was it really a day off work if you don't check out a new café? Golden Hour Coffee opened up about a month ago and is within walking distance from home, so I was excited to check it out today. It absolutely exceeded expectations - from the warm greeting by the owner upon walking in, to help figuring out what to order when feeling indecisive (both seasonal specials, and give whichever I like less to my boyfriend), to two beautiful and delicious drinks that I actually didn't want to share. The owner shared their story on Instagram. They are a first generation couple with Oaxacan, Laotian, and Vietnamese roots. Their goal is to create a space where culture and community are celebrated, in addition to great coffee. I think the vibe is set up well for this, based on their location at the best part of Hawthorne Street, with a variety of seating for gathering, and due to the friendly tone they've established. I'll definitely be back and you should check them out too! read more

The owners are super lovely and service every time has been incredibly warm and friendly. I love that this indie cafe has taken over this space. I love their summer special, the mango matcha. It's always so yummy and refreshing. My friend got a latte and enjoyed it as well. I recommend coming in the morning within the first hour just to soak in the space. Get a spot near the window and just appreciate the street when it's still quiet and the neighborhood is just waking up. read more

I've been here twice now. Both times, everyone who worked there was very friendly. The first time I had the seasonal matcha drink, and the second time I had the seasonal horchata espresso. Both were good, although the horchata espresso was especially delicious. Decor is cute and it's a nice vibe inside. Only two complaints: prices are a little high, and both times it was hard to find a clean table. The place does get busy, which means it's hard for staff to find time to clean. read more

I really like the interior design for this place. nice lean lines that make the place looks very neat and clean but at the same time warm colors and material that make it look cosy. The coffee here was good and they do have unsweetened Matcha powder (I hate it when it's pre-sweetened). The location is great right on Hawthorne with big windows overlooking the street. There are a few tables outside on the sidewalk if I remember correctly. I also like that they have real live plants inside. With plenty of lite, it must be easy to grow them and they add so much. read more

I come here most Sunday mornings and am so grateful that I can always rely on Golden Hour for friendly service and a perfect matcha. The baristas are always wearing kind smiles. My go-to is their lavender oatmilk matcha, but their lattes and mochas hit the spot too. It's usually clean, but every now and then the seating area could use some love. Every time I visit, it's bustling with Portlanders, but there's ample seating both indoors and out to accommodate the traffic. I'm concerned about sanitation at this place. While I was waiting for my coffee to be made, the barista was petting a dog . It was with its person at the end of the bar right next to the espresso machine. While talking to the person, the barista had her hands all over the dog's head and face. I just tried Golden Hour Coffee for the first time today and I have to say the seasonal churro latte I got was unbelievably good and I could not believe how it tasted just like a churro, and I got a 12 oz, and also I got it decaf, with soy milk. The barista that took my order was very nice to me and when I asked her what I ordered if it was good and she laughed at me and immediately answered yes it definitely is, and i couldn't agree more with her on that. And also the ambiance of this place is really nice because the space this place is in has a history that I am pretty sure is forgotten by most that live in the area, and I would say if you live in the Hawthorne area I would highly recommend this place. read more

This is the first bad review I've ever posted. I don't think it's okay to sell GF muffins that they get from Trader Joe's for $5.00 when I can buy a pack of 4 for $6. I've never been to a coffee shop and orders pastries that were from a grocery store. There are lots of local businesses to support.
