I used to come here a lot and the customer service is usually pretty good. The food is mediocre, but they give you big portions for a good price. I have tried the Italian breakfast, spuds and scram, the omelettes, and the grilled cheese sandwich. My favorites are the Italian breakfast and the spuds and scram. The Italian breakfast is the perfect combination of meat and eggs. The spuds and scrams are just loaded potatoes and are a delight for any potato lover. Speaking of potatoes, the biggest and only downfall here are the potatoes. I love eating potatoes for any and every meal and am not very picky with how it's made. However, the potatoes here are just sad and bland. They are soft and mushy and lack flavor. The only reason I like the spuds and scrams (noted above) is because it is overloaded with cheese and meat to outweigh the bland and soft potatoes. Thus, a trick for any breakfast meal that comes with potatoes on the side is asking for just french fries because they are much better and are nice and crispy. GREAT FOR PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES!! Our daughter has many allergies, including eggs! and Yes, we tried to go to a breakfast place with her, extremely worried and medication in hand, ready just in case! The waitress was very nice, took her time to write down all the allergies, spoke to the cook/chef, made everything separate for her and told us exactly what were made fresh there and what were packaged (ex home fries vs french fries). The food was AMAZING, lots of veggies in my veggie wrap, and big portions where we had some to go for lunch the next day. Why yelpers, whyyy? My boyfriend and I have made it our goal to try a new breakfast place every week. With that being said, we were beyond excited when we found O.B.'s on yelp with all its great reviews and come to find out its in walking distance from our house! Yayyy! Wrong. Between the ill fitting plastic covers on the chairs that made me feel I was at a grandmother's house with too many cats and a fear of dirt & the slowest service I have ever experienced we will not be coming back. This is about food you say? Yea, that wasn't much better. I ordered the eggs Benedict which was topped with far too much canned hollandaise and the fattiest Canadian bacon I have ever seen. My boyfriend had eggs, bacon & sausage and a pancake. The bacon had a very strange taste, the sausage was decent, eggs were "suspect" and the pancake wasn't bad...a little on the dry side. We weren't expecting a gourmet breakfast by any means but the quality of the food was terrible. Oh and don't try to leave here...ever. You will be ignored. Step 1: Put your silverware on the plates and don't touch them for a long period of time. Nothing. Step 2: Stack all the plates on top of each other and push them to the edge of the table & make eye contact with waitress. Still nothing. Step 3: Get up and pace, debating just leaving a calculated amount of money on the table. Keep in mind, it wasn't busy AT ALL. I know! Let's go to the counter and ask to leave. The morning after the big blizzard last weekend, my SO, siblings, and I decided that we wanted to go out for breakfast. I said: "Let's go to O. B.'s Cafe!" My SO said: "Go where? To Obese Cafe?" It's true, O.B.'s has HUGE, delicious filling portions for cheap. When I called ahead to make sure they were open despite the blizzard, they were super friendly answering the phone. Then, when we got there, they were just as friendly and awesome. The waitress recommended that my sister and I get the #3 (1 pancake, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 eggs, 2 toast) and said that would be more than enough -- it was! My brother couldn't finish his #2 (2 pancakes, 3 bacon, 3 sausage, 3 eggs, 3 toast) and he's alwaaaays hungry after meals. My fiance got the ham and cheese omlette but couldn't finish. So good! So awesome! We left a big tip because I would not have wanted to go into work that day and yet there they were, cheerful as ever. read more

I've been coming here for years. A couple of years ago I would have given it 4 stars probably. It used to feature good solid food with decent service. But it has gone way downhill. Food is still good, granted. But service and cleanliness has been on a steady decline. Dirty utensils with crusted food on them...chairs with ill fitting, cracked plastic coverings,,,taking 15 minutes from when the server gives you the check until you get your change and can leave...that sort of thing. Still, I kept looking past all of it...but it came to a head the other day. Went there with my wife. She actually grabbed us a table as I went to go get some cash as it's a cash only place. She was greeted with a "I'll be right with ya", After I came in, we waited to 15 minutes for a server to come over (it was very busy). The two servers working hardly came out at all into the seating area during that time. Only twice did a server come out, to bring food to a couple of tables and quickly disappear again. So then we finally left. Others in the seating area were frustrated as well. So they've lost this customer forever. Still giving it two starts because at last check the food was still good. But the worse than poor service and sub-par cleanliness of the establishment make it so not worth it anymore. read more

I wont be back... I tried the place again and I guess it was when they were understaffed. My waitress was the owners mother. When I complained that the service was not great....my plate was taken from the counter and poured into a take away container. I was told that if I did not give at least a 30% tip that I should not come back. The owner told me that he needed to keep the seats open for people that could tip appropriately. Mmmmmm, the Obese cafe. I say this lovingly though. I have been twice; once we had a 5 star experience, the other time it was 3 stars (due to long waits and subpar service). Both times the food was 5 stars, and dirt cheap. So, on the whole, I average this out to 4 stars. The portions are huge, the food is delicious, and the price is right. If I lived near here I'd quickly be OB's myself and have trouble fitting through the door. Yes, it's that good. It's exactly what it says it is, and that's a good thing. When I first graduated from college I did the typical broke college kid thing and moved to Quincy with a couple of girlfriends of mine. After being introduced to OB's after a long night of drinking at Twin Shamrocks, I vowed to make this a staple of my existence. I later moved out of the area only to rediscover this gem this weekend with my fiance. Ob's is a seat yourself whereva kinda place. They have an awesome Eggs Blackstone and delicious french toast. Service is sweet and friendly and always just the right amount of attentive. I mean lets face it, you don't need white glove service when you still have morning breath and greasy hair. Let's just get some food in front of me so as to avoid a massacre, okay? Keep your eyes peeled for some awkward "morning after the one night stand to end all one night stands courtesy breakfast", and some uniquely "Quincy" natives. Head in, fill up... and enjoy yo'self. You will be back. The place has street parking that can be hit or miss but it's a quick in and out if you avoid the peak breakfast time of 8-10. I went to Ob's today after a really tough class at the gym. I know they negate each other but after reading about the pancakes there, I convinced my friend to go with me after the class. The pancakes were the best thing about the restaurant. I had the fruit bomb. Blueberry pancakes with strawberries and bananas on top with a little whipped cream. It was very good. I saw the peanut butter chip pancakes and apple cinnamon pancakes on the menu so I will be back. We had to wait 30 minutes for our pancakes though. When the table next to us, who had been there longer complained about the time, the waitress just told us it was the way it was that day. I was in a very patient mood though so I did not complain as my friend did. I loved the food so I gave them a break for the time. Come here almost every Sunday. I usually get the Eggs Benedict or the Super French Toast.. I have never once been disappointed with the food I have gotten here, I just WISH they took cards, its such a pain to remember to go to the ATM on a Sunday morning to get cash for this place. Also the wait is a hit or miss, sometimes I walk in around 9:00 am and get a table right away, other times the place is so jammed that I just want to grab a bagel from Dunkin and skip the wait, but I'm always happy I wait. Great little place. Yes, sometimes you do have to wait. But they are very attentive refreshing your coffee/tea. The omelets are really good. The homefries are awesome, but warning: don't salt them until you taste them. They already have some sort of salty seasoning on them, and unless you're a salt hound, they are perfect as served. The pancakes are so filling, they're like lead. Way too much food for one person! The eggs florentine are especially nice. Yum. Don't remember if this is a special or a regular item, but they have this thing that's like potato skins, but it's for breakfast. Really good. Here's my thing about breakfast places, and breakfast food in general: anyone can make toast. Anyone can cook an egg. Anyone can make an omelet. Well, ok, maybe not anyone. But as far as simple and cheap food basics go, these are usually pretty high on the list. So I don't judge breakfast places on their eggs. Perhaps unfairly, I don't even judge them on their pancakes or breakfast meats. For me, what makes a breakfast place stand out is their potatoes. Home fries and hash browns are harder to master, both in terms of seasoning and cooking time. OB's only offers home fries. Ideally, these should be browned and crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and well-seasoned without being overseasoned. OB's uses red-skinned potatoes, which were maybe considered "gourmet" or "fancy" back in 1993, but in terms of putting in effort, that's where they stopped. Their potatoes are cut into large, bland, soft, mushy chunks. Not much brown crispiness to speak of. They're not undercooked, which is about the best I can say for them. Also, given the cheapness and ease of making breakfast food, this place is overpriced, in my opinion. The servers are friendly and fast, but what does it matter when the food is so mediocre? Also, they're cash only, which is inconvenient. I'll never understand why this place is so popular, but I have friends who come here pretty much every weekend, so I'll be back, growing saltier with each visit. I wish I could give some of that salt to the chefs. Maybe it would improve the potatoes. read more

My roommates and I moved to the North Quincy area recently and we saw this place. So we decided to check it out in time. While on vacation I was finally able to check it out. Walked in and was immediately greeted. Very friendly serving staff. What struck me was that I was also given a Boston Herald. Probably because I sat at the counter area instead of a table. Food overall was very good. Prices were very reasonable. Food portions were also excellent. I definately did not leave hungry. I would definately recommend this place to others. read more

I used to come here for breakfast, but over the years, it's gone downhill fast! The 'hash browns' are mushy red potatoes that are not even browned never mind crispy. The eggs are either overcooked or undercooked; it depends on the day. Someone is a smoker in the kitchen since the stench is terrible. This spot is super close to my house in Squantum, which automatically gives it two points for convenience. It has really great service. I think I have had the same lady server every time I have gone in, and she is always completely on point in terms of timeliness and accuracy. Their eggs cheddar with sausage is freaking amazing, so that is pretty much all I ever order when I go, haha. I have tried their french toast and pancakes when my bf orders them, and they are delectable as well. All in all, this is a solid brunch spot, and I have yet to experience an "off day" in the kitchen, which is really saying something :) read more

Ive only had the sandwiches and every single one of them was great. had the monti cristo (ham turkey and swiss on texas toast) which was delicous. the buffalo sandwich which is very tasty and HUGE, and the barbeque chicken on texas toast which also was very good. The staff all seem extremely nice. I usually get take out for lunch but the people at the counter are excellent. I was going to deduct a star for closing at like 3pm and another for not taking credit cards.. but the food is so good i decided to only deduct one for both issues. defiantly worth checking out. read more

We were recommended by our Air BnB to visit the OB's Cafe. We visited on a Sunday morning and it was busy. One of the guest moved over on the counter so our party of four could sit down. We were welcomed in right away by staff. It was amazing to watch the staff greet people by name and interact with everyone in the room as if we were all old friends. This was all done while managing a packed house. The breakfasts were HUGE portions of perfectly prepared food! The menu was also such reasonable prices. The diner was clean and decorated with lots of local awards filling the walls of the cafe. We all left with a full belly, take out boxes, plenty of cash still in our pockets and a smile on our face given to us by the friendly staff!! read more
