I have been going to this dry cleaner for over 25 years and never had a problem until recently. It appears that there is a new owner and the care and quality has gone down hill! I brought 13 items in for cleaning - one came back with the stains still on the blouse and the other came back with a hole in my dress. The stains I was told they couldn't get out and I was told to leave my dress at the cleaners until Monday when the owner would be back in and he would decide how to remedy the problem. On Monday, the owner told me that 30(really??) people looked at the dress before cleaning it and there was no hole and tried to blame it on me after I picked it up 15 minutes prior, then he changed his story and tried to tell me that I didn't get it cleaned at his cleaners. Although the dress was still in his possession with the Ocean Cleaners tags on it! Finally, he offered me a measly $40 dry cleaning credit for future dry cleaning. This was after I had already paid for the stained blouse and dress the cleaners ruined. The credit came nowhere near the price of the dress! I refused and asked for a larger compensation when at that time he went on a rant about "his" God. BEWARE! This cleaner can not be trusted to care for your garments and the customer service is appalling!! read more

Terrible service and terrible customer service. Every time, some of my clothes come back with basic washable stains as if they haven't been washed at all. It's a huge waste of time to have to bring clothes back twice. Also make sure you somehow manage to double check for stains before you remove the clothes from the hangers and plastic bags or they will charge you again. This business has VERY recently switched hands to a new owner and new management. The new owner is already the owner of another dry cleaning business, Cleaners La Jolla, which I had been going to for years.. The old reviews from several years ago definitely doesn't reflect the service I had visiting Ocean Cleaners this time around because I was able to get my clothes cleaned with the same quality and service as my usual dry cleaners, except this time I can also get my dry cleaning with my groceries since it's in the same mall as Vons! I recommend this business that is now newly owned by some nice people that actually have a long standing history of taking care of my clothes at their other location. read more

Horrible customer service! I brought in a skirt to have the zipper fixed. They replaced the zipper with the wrong size zipper that caused the skirt to bulge out on the side when worn. Additionally the zipper broke also. when I brought it back to them, they said they never replaced the zipper! Then sent me on my way. Horrible horrible service. Wow... i am honestly amazed at some of the experiences these people have had... & it makes me wonder if we are seeing the whole picture to the story... because 1. I've been coming here for many years now, and I've always experienced great customer service. The owner is SUCH a sweetheart, I could definitely imagine some people trying to take advantage of that. 2. They do miracles here. One instance I remember-- I brought in a NEW & never worn JC blouse that had a horrible stain on the very front to Margarets Cleaners (they're known to do amazing work--but it comes with a heavy price) & they weren't able to take out the stain. However, I let Ocean have a try at it since I wouldn't have been able to wear the blouse anyway, and I am SO glad I did, because they took it out (for a fraction of the price of Margarets,) and it's still my favorite blouse to this day :). Honestly, I don't know what I would do without my Ocean Cleaners.They do miracles here, and they make me feel like I'm a part of the family. I was a regular customer of Ocean Cleaners for many years. A few months ago I brought a queen size comforter in to be cleaned and was surprised the price had increased by $10.00. I decided to call elsewhere. The other day I went in with two pairs of cropped trousers, one linen and one cotton. I was appalled. The last time I had them cleaned they charged $6.00. This time they were $9.50. I was thoroughly gobsmacked (surprised). I looked at the ticket. The total was $19.50. I was so shocked I returned inside gave in the ticket and had my trousers returned. I know prices are increasing but this is ridiculous. read more

The new owner won't make it. I have been going here for at least ten years. With COVID I have only been in a few times. Twice I have been overcharged as they claim an item needed special services I did not request. I called them out the second time and the owner said it was needed. I asked why the did not tell me in advance. He said something like they don't do that. I said I can't promise I will go back. The response? That's OK. OK I won't ten. Guess you done need customers. I recognize there is risk to dry cleaning, most places even post signs, or put minuscule type on the back of your receipt, stating cleaners are not responsible for lost or damaged items. How exactly does that work?!? I am paying a specialist to clean and/or repair items of clothing so delicate they cannot simply be washed by me...and they bear no responsibility if they don't do their job properly and end up ruining my expensive clothes??? I just don't get it... I have to be honest, I was loyal to Ocean Cleaners for 3+ years and was completely content; then disaster struck...then again...then again...then they lost me forever. I understand cleaning with chemicals may be a difficult process so I was forgiving after what looked like a botched tie-dye job on my beautiful blouse and believed the concern on the woman's face when she apologized. I was visibly irritated when my next visit resulted in a ruined couture dress (not only the material but also an intricate strap had been broken in the destruction process) but sadly accepted their amends of discount service in the future. Then came the final straw when a button from my suit jacket had come loose...I used a safety pin to secure the button to the jacket and made the dreadful mistake of entrusting Ocean Cleaners with the job. Upon arrival to pickup, the woman at the counter was hesitant in handing over the plastic wrapped jacket...I knew by her face I was in for a surprise...unfortunately I was not-so-shocked to see another disappointment from this place; a random button that was very much "one of these things is not like the other...". I asked for the original button, which I had taken such care in pinning to the jacket so as to avoid this situation; she shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't know", then I asked for some sort of compensation and she quickly swiped my card and said "i no do nothing" with her hands in the air like I'm gonna go psycho and holdup the store. Rather than calling upon the lunatic inside me, I walked out defeated, calculating the monetary amount of ruined merchandise (not going to admit the $ amt. for fear of recurring nausea) and vowed never to return...never have, never will. read more

My shirts were cleaned and pressed just as I had requested and the owner was very courteous and friendly all at the same time. I've had so many bad experiences in La Jolla with my dry cleaning and have had arguments when other dry cleaners would damage my clothes so it was such a relief to see that for once I didn't experience any problems and am planning on making this my permanent go to spot to get my dry cleaning done! read more

We are switching cleaners after using Ocean Cleaners consistently for 6 months upon moving to La Jolla. Can't say we had any problems with quality. We spent an average of $400 a month. At 930am requested to have 1 suit done same day and was told no sorry without regard, I walked across the street and competition agreed easily to do 1 suit same day. Very expensive. Charged $1 extra for silk shirts and they charge extra if the shirt is white. Weren't ready when initially told. Had to pay for a shirt with the stains still on it because they claimed they couldn't get it out (but didn't offer to try again). Didn't have list of prices when requested. read more

So I've experimented many dry cleaners and this one is the dry cleaners for me. I drive really far to come here but its worth it. I like both my laundered clothes and dry-cleaned clothes folded in a box. It costs extra but I feel like I'm opening a christmas present every time. Corny, I know. But five stars! Ocean cleaners damage my shorts.I didn't want to pay and ask the to do it right The did't do it hold my shorts and on the top of it charge my credit card without my authorization. If you don't believe me just go there and you will see what I am talking about. I don't know what the 1* people are talking about... probably just works at a competing dry cleaner... well I've been there about 20 times the past 2 years... and there pretty awesome... i had to drop some of my wifes clothes off... (shes real meticulous) and she was really scared about dropping off her prized selection of shirts which i was really suprised that she even let some one touch them let alone clean'em, and they gave it back to me all packaged up, nicely folded they also made ALL of the spots off... My wife was really happy thanks to the people in the shop who were REALLY nice. read more

This review is related to the alterations services and the seamstress at the premises. I took around six pairs of jeans to be shortened by the seamstress and had to return on three separate occasions because several of the jeans were left with uneven hems - one leg shorter than the other. When she was hemming the jeans I specifically mentioned to her that I have one hip higher than the other and that she would have to measure each leg separately. The last time I went in to have the length of the jeans fixed/redone she started a fight with me and told me initially that I was wrong and that they were not uneven. Then she pulled out a ruler and said that the right leg was ONLY uneven by 1/4" and did not want to fix it. She said that a quarter of an inch was not that big of a difference. She had a horrible attitude when she was at fault and did not do her job properly. I told her that I would be taking my business elsewhere. Horrible customer service. read more

If I could give this establishment a "0" I would. As a loyal customer for 5 years and counting, when a mistake is made on my dry cleaner's end, I expect them to own it!! Such is not the case at Ocean. Now, everyone knows if you have something of value, take it to Margaret's - there is, hands down, no better cleaner. However, some items don't merit a $20 cleaning bill, so I take those to Ocean cleaners. Two weeks ago I took in a brand new Karen Millen khaki-colored sweater. Not only did Ocean completely ruin/bleach it, they actually put in a dry cleaning bag and would have sent me home with it, had I not opened it up before departing. There, all over the sleeves and chest area, were bleach spots (everyone they tried to spot clean). I asked them about it, and then they said "Oh, we didn't clean it, it was already damaged." Really? Really? Well, look here at my receipt, I was charged for it?!? The staff there is completely dishonest (they will lie to your face point blank, no problem) and has little to no value for either their workmanship or their loyal customers. After spending who knows how much over the last five years, you'd think it might cross a business owner's mind to write their customer a check for the damaged sweater. Instead, an average cleaners, at best, decides to 1st lie, then deny. Great customer service model. Here's to hoping they go out of business...and soon! read more

I have never written a yelp review before but was so infuriated by the women running Ocean Cleaners that I am doing so. If I could give one star I would. I have never been so badly treated at any establishment. I took in a curtain for a simple hemming job. When I got the curtain home, I found they had cut it off about 8 inches too short. When I went back I was told that I was wrong that they had done it right. The woman who had done the sewing was extremely rude and refused to even consider that she had made a mistake. I went back the next day to the woman who had taken my order. If at all possible, she was even ruder. I said I either wanted my money back for the sewing-- no matter that they had ruined my curtain-- or they could fix it. The fix would be simple and I was willing to accept it even though the curtain wouldn't be the way I wanted it. The woman said I would have to pay a second time. I should have read these reviews before I went in there as I see that others have been treated in the same way when their items were ruined. read more
